Okay, so The Whispered One's backstory (THAT part - the wording felt WAY TOO intentional) is either a brilliant red harring (entirely or partially) OR fantastic foreshadowing... I havn't watched C1, but know the bare basics of said story there, so it could theoratically be either or.

It’s a bit of both, but the main thing to keep in mind is that he is NOT altruistic. Liches, by design, are incredibly selfish individuals. You don’t cheat death with magic because you want to save the world.

The gods fear the whispered one for multiple reasons. He is trying to destroy the balance of life and death. Which while directly under the matron of raven's control does trickle down to others For example the wild mother, god of nature will have to deal woth a whole different ecosystem. 2nd, if the whispered one becomes a god he gains the power to fight the other gods. 3rd, the gods are locked out of the material plane now. If the whispered one becomes a god on the other side of the gate then hes easily the most powerful creature there. The gods used to walk exandria but no longer do, creating the divine gate to prevent them from directly walking the earth. As exandria was scarred frkm the gods warring with each other

If there's no death, then nature would need to adapt in an absurd way. Gideon, wants to destroy the balance between life and death! I have a prediction they are changing 1 element of the story between the show and camaign. They have to change some of it for IP laws as C1 used heavy elements from DND but my prediction is on the identity of the whispered one's lover. Not going say it here but will say that in the camapigns of exandria there is only 1 mortal we know of who got erased from existence/history. If that is the same person he is alluding to then holy fuck grab the pop corn

I don’t think it’s her. She’s an entity that emerged much earlier than the Age of Arcanum, predating the Calamity by centuries. A lot of things were set in motion because of her, with others chasing after her success. They may have changed names and titles and items, but the core of all the characters is still the same.

There’s also a factor of desperation in many of his followers. Delilah wanting her husband back, Talia and her daughter, and how easily it was conceded that Vax’s “disease” warranted an early entry into Thar Amphala. He speaks to them honeyed words and shows feats beyond belief, but he is a selfish creature. All liches are.
