This was actually suppose to be the Season 1 finale, but it ended up being pushed to be the Season 2 opener due to the episode count being met in Season 1 and they wanted to wrap up the Grand Galloping Gala subplot.

Lauren Faust is a ‘Star Trek’ fan, so she basically ripped off the character of Q for Discord, to the point where she just decided to get John De Lancie, the actor who played Q, to voice Discord.

That was actually a rare studio win. She went to them saying they should try to get someone who could do a good John De Lancie impersonation (Mostly on the assumption they wouldn't approve the budget to hire him directly) and the execs just flat out told her "Why not see if we can just get him?"

I love the fact Discord couldnt beat fluttershy's kindness and had to force the disharmony on her, thats why her anti-fluttershy is so mean, is not her being opposite of herself, is discord magic making her act in total opposite of what discord think it would be... there is a clue on how to beat discord...

The way the ending is animated is a reference to the ending of Star Wars: A New Hope. The music n expressions n everything. Even the wee circle transition to the credits. It's so fun! 😄

35:03 Okay, I know I'm nitpicking here, but this part actually pisses me off. The thing is that it wasn't a flaw in Fluttershy's character that caused Discord to slip in and corrupt her like the others. Discord just touched her and she became cruel. To me, that speaks the message that kindness is not as strong as disharmony. That's not a good message. If she wasn't so secure in her feelings about kindness, I would let it go since that's good for character development.

AT LAST! Ever since Morgan started MLP, I've been so excited for them to meet the character who first got me into the show. I love this crazy draconequus! And John De Lancie's voice is so smooth and foreboding, it fits him perfectly.

Just so you know Morgan, a lot of villains in the beginning of each season usually only last for the opening season. Rarely are they an actual threat through a whole season. Heck, some on them either appear midway or near the end of the season.

Discord is a very fun character, and helped get a bunch of trekkies to get into MLP, since as others have said he's voiced by John deLancie as a reference to Q, another reality warper that John played in Star Trek. John himself is a troll, btw. There's a video of a guy recounting meeting him at a con after this episode aired, and decided to get him to sign a print of a fanart of Discord vs Celestia. However, one part of that image looked... A little sus, if you looked at it the right way, and John deLancie locked onto that, and started showing EVERYONE that was passing by the booth. The video literally ends with "And there you have it, that is how I got John deLancie to sign a big blue p*nis. John deLancie is the biggest troll I have ever met." (It was actually just how Discord's feathery wing and perspective were drawn that made it look like that, it wasn't intentional in the original artwork)
