Jimmy's transformations are all nods to the many, *many* things he was transformed into in the "Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen" comic. If you assume events in time are not fixed - and you would if you were trying to go to the past to change things - then simply by going into the past, you change things. And setting off Hank early was apparently one of those things.

I hope Morgan noticed that Jon seemed to go out of his way to avoid Kara. Also, say what you will about Homelander for the Boys, but it took him four season to go full dictator, while Hank couldn’t even last half a season.

I took it that Jon went this far into the past to prevent Hank becoming an even bigger threat that would kill his parents. If he went to the time where they were to die, that could be too late. Now they know what is going to happen and he can help them prevent that. I love Jon's characterization and how much of a combo he is of Clark and Lois. He gets all their extremes. Him wanting to wear the Mommy and Me outfits with Lois is when I put it together that Lois was dead in his time because what teenager would want that and why wouldn't it have already happened if he did?
