OH MY GOD RIGHT THE LORE DUMP IS TODAY!! WOOOOOO!!!

Liam Gradwell

Here we finally are: the Knowledge episode. And the knowledge is that this is a MESSY divorce. 😱❤️🤍🖤💛

Xýliandra

WE'VE MADE IT TO THE LORE EPISODES🫪🤩🤩🤩!!!! Basically, The Messiest break-up in History!! 20:46 The fact that you Aren't gae panicking right now, has me baffled😮😮😮!! 22:11 "WAIT I JUST REALIZED SHE'S STILL ALIVE👀!!" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 27:53 OMG!!! The Desperation In That "NOOO!!!" Scared tf outta me😱, and it's not even funny! 46:50 I mean, think of evolution. The first living creatures of Our world wasn't humans. It was, *thinks* some form of cells. A couple million years later, dinosaurs. Millions years later, animals. +++ Millions years later, Humans. So Salem, is basically around, Idk, 100 million years in age. Give or take. Insane age, but given that she's immortal, it just works. 47:47 And that's why and how the moon of Remnant became shattered! It was the God of Destruction that basically Slammed the door when he left! 59:55-1:01:50 Indeed it is a mind fuck episode😅😂🤣 1:04:00 You see that castle right there? Salem STILL lives in it!! She really can't let something or someone go!! 1:07:16 The wording of that, is standing out to me🤔. "You can't." I think she means that Oz alone can't destroy Salem, but somebody else might be able👀!! If there's 1 thing I've learned from Mosco is that certain words can mean different things!! Take Alastor's deal to Vox in s2. He said Vox wasn't allowed to put his hands on Charlie. Not to never hurt her. Not to physically harass her. But to Not Touch Her! Wording can have a MASSIVE effect, if you know what to look for😏!! Sure, Salem seems undefeatable, but are we 100% sure that's the case?! Last edit: I really enjoyed your reaction. I know I didn't say much, but that's because I was just so locked in on getting this information again. This is the 4th time I've heard it, and my mind is still "💨" 😅😅😅. Oh and chat, Morgan is closing in a certain Grimm, and I'm Scared👀. But anyways, I hope you're having an amazing day, and I'll see you in your next reaction Morgan. Peace✌🏼😁

SauceyRed

Damn they skipped the cold open lmao

Flufux

Wait, did you just skip the first scene of the episode? That one that was actually the reveal of Cinder being alive?

GlitchedLetters

I think this is way funnier than it probably is, but the reason Cinder being alive shocked you so much; I think you accidentally skipped the scene where we get revealed she's alive. It's right after the intro and before we see the flashback of our main heroes, but the scene ends in a black out so you likely got that confused with the intro end.

39

Oh god it’s happening

SauceyRed

From the timestamp in the video it seemed like it was actually a cold open, so before the intro, but I'm too lazy to go back and double-check.

GlitchedLetters

You may be right, it's been a while since I saw the second episode of this volume so I can't remember if it was before or after the into, but I thought it was after

Adrian ruiz martinez

Not morgan thinking ozma was Mr immortal, pretending to die to not having to break up with his exes

Adrian ruiz martinez

How did all humans came back? Just good ol fashion evolution

BGTitan

Ep 2: I love the tension during the Oz interrogation building up into the reveal of Jinn. That is stellar. I get Oz wanting to keep things close to the chest due to past experiences, however some of his secrets seem unnecessary. What harm would it do to tell the kids about the Relic attracting Grimm? Like, honestly, then you could have prevented putting civilians in danger or the crew could have just been more prepared that they would be attacked. Maria Calavera is the best addition to this cast thank you. JINN!!!!!!! As you can probably imagine, Elijah's reaction to her was fantastic lol The delayed reaction on Cinder being alive was glorious! Lmao Ep 3: I love that even in RWBY, the gods are just petty assholes. Like, obviously GoL has a point, life and death are a cycle. And yeah, it’s not fair but it’s how things work. What gets me though is that GoL then disrupts his own cycle to bring Ozma back anyway and give Salem immortality! Like dude, wtf?! It’s not an inherently selfish act to want to bring a loved one back, and I’m certain everyone has felt that way at least once. Of course, Salem wouldn’t know how to handle something like that, she has zero experience with these kinds of emotions. Not to mention Ozma was the only good thing in her life, and he was just suddenly taken away by an illness of all things. I also agree that giving someone who had already proven to be manipulative immortality was the dumbest thing the gods could have done. As horrible as it sounds, their best option was to just let her live without immortality as long as she deigned or kill her themselves. They literally gave her the means to set in motion the events of the series. Grief and spite are powerful emotions, indeed. Underappreciated little tidbit is that the God of Darkness was just happy to have someone praying to him instead of his brother, he was literally just going to give Ozma back without any strings or conditions. It's only once he realizes he's been played that he gets vindictive. ....As gods do. Ozma in the Wizard of Oz books was a Princess who also went by the name Tip. I'm not as versed in the Oz books as I'd like to be but I'm sure someone else can elaborate. The girl in the tower is a reference to Rapunzel, yes. I also find it interesting that Salem didn't care about the relics or the fact that Oz had been keeping them a secret at all when he told her. She literally says none of that matters. ....Until the fallout happens and Oz tries to sneak off with their kids. "I really thought she was going to kill the children." They definitely did not survive that fight. That's why they show the stuffed animal. Also, the kids were not the Maidens. The Maidens were the four girls the Wizard (Oz) met during one of his reincarnations and he gifted them magic.

Lavender Onyxheart

You've forgotten the conversation from vol 5, where ozpin revealed he gave some of his magic to the original maidens; likely because they reminded him of his daughters

SauceyRed

I love how everyone that sees Oz and Salem's kids just has their memories of the story of the wizard overridden by the fact that the kids are color-coded to the seasons lmao Happened to me too. Just as a reminder, Oz gave most of his powers to the four women that visited him, making them the first maidens. Maybe Oz saw the colors of the clothes they wore and got reminded of his daughters who had inherited magic.

ml

Well, technically you don't need two humans to create more lol, cuz remember the first few sentences of vol 1 episode 1: "We are remnants of a forgotten past" and "Men, born from dust". Dusts (ashes of previous mankind) gave birth to the newer mankind.

Suplee215

Quick clarity, the origin Ozpin previously gave for the maidens is correct. He gave them their power during one of the times he was down on humanity and living as a hermit. It is implied they remided him of his daughters and stuff though

Taigan

“If we make the wrong person immortal, then we have a real fucking problem.” How… prophetic.

Jittercritter

Ahhh THE episode. It’s RWBY’s equivalent of the middle episodes of TLoK s2

James Long

You might have the files where there is no intro on any of the episodes except the premiere.

Marceline_mother

Don't know if you noticed, but the God of Light had a power much like Ruby with her Silver Eyes👀

LikeCat

"Life and death are part of a delicate balance" said the God of Light... yeah... sure. Lets go with that

Moonas

Team CFVY is pronouns Coffee. Also: HE can't destroy her, but someone else can. Salem want to bring relics together to destroy the world and die. But God of light said: "You must learn the importance of life and death. Only then may you rest" so she can do it that way. Yes she killed their kids. Oz later on gave his magic to 4 young ladies bc they remind him of his daughters.

SQX Barto

Definitely, there was a scene where a woman found Cinder.

Eric Smith

For charity's sake, the "likely because they reminded him of his daughters" is new information as of this episode, but yeah, the original maiden fairy tale is accurate as far as we know.

Eric Smith

Yeah I strongly suspect the God of Darkness has no idea about Ozma and his mission. Would be very funny if the relics get brought together and Light starts some big judgementy speech and Darkness is just "why are we suddenly back here?"

Legiblestew

Definitely the messiest break up! Great call on guessing original Salem was based on Rapunzel! And calling Ms. Malachite as the head of a criminal organization. The spiders were a hint to her fairytale inspiration, but what she was eating was also a hint and her name honestly. You get a little more information on her from one of the books. Cannot wait until you see the rest of the volume.

Atticus Yaps

So glad we've gotten to knowledge, one of the biggest lore drops in the series. And yes, it is the messiest break ups. I got the wrong episode on that, I may have been a little tired when I listed that, sorry about that.

Taigan

Yeah. Salem was alone for a ***LONG*** time

LikeCat

So Morgan now that you have witness THIS, question Who had the messiest break-up Ozma and Salem in V6E3 or the Ineffible Husbands in GO S2's finale?

Nik(goggledogs)

Thank you for the All Time Low reference 🙌

Jyoster

Pff! Short mythical stories, this is anything but short! We're getting dumped with the personal history of two complicated folks who had the messiest divorce in history! Yes! The book! I've been meaning to read those! Ah, Oz. The man with more lies plaster over him that a fork pretending to be a screwdriver. Lies so buried deep that even his most trusted allies like Qrow don't know, and its messing with him. Ladies and Gentlemen, let's welcome the one and only... Jinn, spirit of the lamp! Quite the beauty ain't she? She's already won the hearts of men and women alike, Elijah in particular pretty much filed her divorce paper with Cinder the moment the blue beauty came into the picture. Speaking of Cinder. She's still alive, proving to be harder to kill than a cockroach. But yeah, it's funny how you managed to accidentally skip over the whole scene that showed that Cinder was not only alive, but also showing how she escaped the Haven Vault. Little Miss Malachite and her Spiders. That's a fun bit of world building, treating info gathering like currency for anyone willing to pay for it. We actually get to see more on them in one of the books, so keep an eye out for them. --- Heh, the fact that there's no intro for the lost fable is telling, telling that every second counts to tell this massive lore drop. Salem's desire for freedom, one of her driving motives that influences her decisions to this day. But her meaning of freedom changes over time. First it was freedom from the tower, then it was freedom to live her life with Ozma, and now... Freedom from her immortality, she wants to end it all, herself included. And another pattern with Salem. The moment Ozma passes away, she was quick to doubt the Gods, wondering why they let this happen. A reoccurring pattern, Salem can't take no for an answer, and blames it on others. Something that lands her in hot water very often, literally in the case of the lake [minus the heat]. And here we go... The God of Light, and the God of Death, two of the most irresponsible being one can imagine. Their detachment to their creations and how they feel, it really messes with everything. Also, you nailed it in the head regarding the irony of the two brothers doing the opposite of what they determine themselves to be, and it's telling on how they view their creations. Light takes the gift of creating for granted it seems, so he has no issue getting rid of one of his creations if it aligns with his believes. Dark on the other hand, you can tell he doesn't get to create much, even says it himself. "You may bask in the gift of creation, but you do not own them." He values the few things he gets to create, hence why he took great offense to when Light killed Ozma. And yeah... That immortality curse, worst punishment they could've given to Salem. The gods could've explained to her why she needed to learn the importance of life and death, but no. They figured she needed to learn this lesson herself, so they cursed her and left her be. And now, she's making it everyone's problem. Cause she refuses to take responsibility for her actions. Heh, the revelation that the current humanity is only the second one to have existed, because of the fact that Salem unintentionally triggered the extinction of the original humanity. That's mind boggling first time hearing it. But yeah, nature and evolution eventually lead to humanity rises again, with the added bonus of the Faunus. And that's how the moon got broken. The cosmic equivalent of an angry father slamming the door on the way out and knocking it out of its hinges. And the Judgment Day situation... Once again, the gods being irresponsible. But yeah, this is the inevitable event that'll happen. And Salem is counting on it to end her. Regarding Oz's children, it's not likely that they are the maidens. But the old wizard, who we know was Oz, was likely reminded of them once he met the traveling sisters. Hence why he bestowed upon them his magic. But yeah, Oz has answered a question no one dared to ask. Can you have business with a Grimm? He has the experience. ... Sorry, couldn't help it. But yeah. Jinn can answer 3 questions every 100 years. What we saw at the end was just another one of Oz's prior lives.

Faroth

in the owl house terms of explanation "weird witch cant get over becoming a widow so literally causes a mass extintion and even when humans returned is a spite and grudge b1tc1-1 so is trying to pull that all over again"

Faroth

remember episode 1? "Man, born from dust, WAS strong, wise, and resourceful." salem says "was"... past sentence the Dust is literally the REMNANTS of the 1st gen humans who had magic... the world is called "remnant"... Damn Monty was a genius of foreshadowing since v1 humans came back by old fashion "evolution" and the dust also combined humans and animals to make faunus along that long way path

Faroth

in doctor who terms "she arrived there using the long way"

Faroth

crazy detail: Oz asked Jinn "How do I destroy Salem? and she says "you cant" Remember Jinn is a Genie, those work in specifics, he asked "how do I"... meaning she answered that HE cant destroy her

DKscribe88

No rush on reading the books. You can easily watch the show without having to worry about what you learn in the books. I would, however, read them before the new volume that is being made comes out. So, you've got about a year or so, depending on how long V 10 takes to make.

RetroBeastto

The line from Ozpin “ive made more mistakes then any man, woman, or child” really put things i perspective this lore dump is crazy and im happy you finally saw it.

JAMES D'ALESSANDRO

So, the Gods are idiots and they are the ones responsible for this whole mess. Salem didn't do anything wrong asking the Gods for help, then after torturing her by watching the man she loves come back then be murdered by those 2 idiots they think by making so she can't die not interfere with balance. The God of Light should have just let Ozma live after his brother brought him back to life then make an agreement with him to ne er do it again. They both really suck. So yes you saw what happened to the moon but that also destroyed the domain of light and the fountain of life The chidren are not the 4 maidens but I am sure when Oz gave those 4 sisters his magic they reminded him of his daughters and his dead daughters may have been his inspiration to give them his magic.

JAMES D'ALESSANDRO

Salem was the only human alive for a very long time. Probably tens of thousands of years before Ozma even went back. Rewatch episode one of season one to learn where the people who came after came from. It's the first thing we all learned while watching this show. So Salem wants to finally die so that's why she wants the relics. Why the idiots wanted Ozma to go back makes no sense and where did this idea that all of mankind needs to live in harmony. The plot here really makes zero fucking sense. If humans were given the rights to choose then why would they sll have to get along?

David Johnson

Yeah, but what's a hundred years to Salem? And as usually, it's all the god's fault. No, there's no way *he* can *destroy* Salem. That's two loopholes right there.

Rachel Mae

"Now I'm wondering if [Oz] did some fucked up shit with Salem" There was fucking involved yes lol And yea those kids are dead dead. World of Remnant explains how the OG maidens came to be and Oz states directly in v5 again that he created the OG maidens. They weren't his daughters but it's pretty clear he was in a deep depression after the turbo divorce and the 4 OG maidens that brought him out of that reminded him of his daughters

Chloe

for the weekly chloe bee comment I always love barbs voice when she shouts for blake at the end of ep two. Yang was getting was flashbacks

Dafydd Mac an Leigh

Ah, the joys of being able to watch these two episodes back to back, without having to wait a week inbetween! The end of "Uncovered" was quite the cliffhanger, back in the day

dainbramage7

Congratulations on achieving what I've come to call Tier III of the RWBY experience. I developed a tier system for RWBY viewers based on pivotal points in the story. They are as follows: -Tier I is a newbie to RWBY, a sweet summer child as it were -Tier II experiences the deaths of Penny and Pyrrha and the Fall of Beacon -Tier III experiences the Lost Fable and its impact on the characters and the story as a whole -Tier IV is spoiler territory but rest assured you'll get there Additional tiers may be added depending on future volumes but you are well on your way. Congrats again from a dedicated viewer!

CaptSamavor

So Salem is basically Delilah: Ten thousand years later

Rod

Question 1: What are the rules for the relic of knowledge?

Faroth

Funfact: animatorsasked the writters to wrote out sun for the volume since he was too cool and hard to animate, they thought about it and decided to do so but then add him into the story of the book that is a continuation of the other bookso he get time with the fans too Damn, sun is too cool...

Dafydd Mac an Leigh

"Man, born from Dust, was strong, wise, and resourceful." —Salem Maybe it's not just a metaphor?

Secret Third Other Thing

"If we make the wrong person immoral, then we have a real fucking problem". Yeah... about that.

Jittercritter

A lot of people felt like Ozpin’s part in The Lost Fable was underwhelming, that his guilt was overblown, and I feel like those people REALLY gloss over the fact that he led a holy war as a false prophet alongside Salem. Like. That’s disgusting.

Faroth

Yeah, the a55hols are actually the gods, ghey make a literal mass extinction just because a woman was grieving, they could just have her died and they reunited and end of story

Faroth

1:01:05 remember that oz said he "made" the maidens? Well...

SK- Eferthigra

so both these episodes didn't have an intro what you skipped the first time was not the intro but how cinder survived the fall you might want to watch that next time although it doesn't really matter you already know she survived learning how now is up to you

Vex Valor

You accidentally skipped the first scene in the episode when skipping over the intro. It was how Cinder is still alive.

Faroth

1:05:33 as is supposed, the kids died and from that there are mere suppositions, mainly there are 2 theories. 1. The kids died and their magic by itself transferred to a new host starting the cycle 2. The maidens were created as in the tale, ozma gave them his powers and thats why he hasnt that much magic anymore, and he made them as a memory of his own daughters but also because the 4 maidens did in fact take him out of grieving the daughters he lost now as an old man in a cottage for years and maybe for many lives... and thats why he started to "live with the souls on which he reincarnated" as said by jinn The 2nd theory is most likely what happened since explain ozpin's lack of power

Faroth

She says 'was', past sentence

SK- Eferthigra

and here we have the third and likely last telling of the story of the four maide3ns the real story ironically missing that happily ever after you were so suspicious of. on that note I dot think its ever confirmed there the maidens but I believe they are first in the original story the maidens were sisters (check) we learn how old they were in comparison two each other (that checks out two) we know there personalities (check again) they bring hope to an old man (check) the old man was oz (check) oz even says himself he gave a great deal of power to them and the gods weren't giving out power at that point so I think its implied for them to have magic it was given from there reserves another possibility is oz used his magic to save them when they died cause it is implied they died in the crossfire but I choose to believe much like they accidently passed on there magic that was given to them by the gods the fact they were both given a form of immortality by the gods also rubbed off on them also this is kind of what I was talking about ages ago with fairy tales in this show you have to ask who told the story why they told the story and biases did they leave in or out oz told this story and he told it so people wouldn't fear the maidens witch is why he made it a happy story on that note one of the story's piera lists when she's asked her favourite fair tale is "the girl in the tower" oz told her story too on that note she also lists the tale of the two brothers as a story and the shallow sea witch we also see in the spinoff fairy-tales of remnant the story features the god of light and is an origin story for the fuanus on that note another thing we learn in this episode is the forms the relics take "lamp of knowledge" "staff of creation" "sword of destruction" and "crown of choice" fun fact we also see how the crown of choice functions in another fairy-tale of remnant there is a theory that while the lamp and the staff were made by the god of light the crown and the sword were made by the god of darkness witch seeing what the crown did to the king in that fairy-tale I believe but its implied that is another story spread by ozpin as well as two more in that series one that warns you not to trust Salem and to help your fellow man and one that acts as an origin for why huntsman work in teams of 4 and encourages unity another story in that series is they one about the silver eyed warriors they keep talking about and you probably already gathered this but ozpin isn't a bad guy he's an unreliable narrator for sure he's certainly not lying about all his mistakes either but he's not as powerful as he makes himself seem and he rarely has a real plan and is just hoping people support him even if he knows its hopeless he's complicated and truly he's biggest sin is he is a liar

TheCasualNerd

Humanity came back through evolution, which is why the faunus also exist now, the evolution split. Here's a fun theory for you though. In episode one Salem said that Dust is appropriately named. So a popular fan theory is that all dust is the remains of the original humanity that had magic, fossilized over eons. I have other theories I could share that are personal theories but I think they should wait until a different episode where we see a specific other thing.

Vex Valor

Now you know straight people broke the world 💔 It's so messed up how the gods refused to bring Ozma back because "she needed to understand the importance of life and death" so instead they killed everyone and THEN brought Ozma back anyway.

SaviorOfNirn

I really love Salem as a character.

SaviorOfNirn

Also fuck the gods. thye're legit awful and entirely to blame for everything bad happening

Ryan

Salem's story is a refreshing twist on the trope of "this character grew up in isolation but turned out okay!" She most definitely did not turn out okay. ... Gasp! Morgan caught a detail! What will become of it...

Dragonrune

The god of Darkness = Western Styled Dragon -- god of Light = Eastern Styled dragon This is Ozma; Not Oz. Ozma can't reincarnate. He is just a magical human. As stated there is a balance between Life and Death. Once dead, he needed to stay dead. EDIT- Nevermind. Morgan caught on. Yes, Salem killed her daughters fighting Ozma. His question to Jinn was, "How do I destroy Salem?" He can't as she is immortal. He can defeat her though.

Lamar Hayward

The kids died and their powers went to ramdom people. Those host eventually made their way back to Oz, hence the Maidens. I believe he unlocked their dormant powers.

Lamar Hayward

Also, notice the kids eye color?

SpaghettiPolonaise

Episode 3 is a really fascinating episode - both because of the lore and because there's a lot of symbolism/parallels/foreshadowing in parts of it. I definitely recommend rewatching it once you've watched the whole show because of that

DragonBlaze

Okay Morgan. Time for a recap. The daughter's are Dead. But some belive they are the Madiens and when they died, their powers transfer. And when He asked " How can 'I' destroy Salem?" Her answer was "'You' can't." Its what they call the genies rule. Ozpin can't kill her, but someone else can.

KaitheKnightly

No in the WoR episode Maidens we learn that during Ozpin's hermit reincarnation he gave his magic to the 4 girls he met. But with this episode it explains why. They reminded him of his daughters if they ever grew up. Granted there are parts of the Fandom who wonder if the daughters reincarnated like their dad and that's where maidens come from. But my only complaint to that is that Ozpin would then still have his magic on par with Salem. Having kids wouldn't steal his magic which is the premise for the whole maiden tale in the first place. :)

KaitheKnightly

Ozpin has had so many lives we will never know all of his mistakes. But the biggest one lead to his kids dying.

Luna

It’s a common theory that the maidens inherited a watered down version of Oz’s reincarnation
