I don't have a BAD feeling about this per se, I heard that essentially all of DC Comics in 1992 was in some way all about this story, so I wonder how the people who know this arc inside and out feel about this adaptation? There was a 2007 adaptation that people liked, and a more close to the comic version in 2018 that critics really liked and gave it a 92%, and I'd say spoilers for Batman Vs Superman but no one should ever watch Batman Vs Superman, that incorporates some elements

This episode I think shows Jon isn't telling the future in a proper chronological order. That couldn't be the day Superman died originally died on because Jon wasn't born yet and he says Kara is killed by him, but we see she raised him and he was about the age he is now so the wound is still fresh for him. It's just he is capable of killing both of them and that makes Jon try to keep them all out of the fight. Now I also need to catch up on the show. I am caught up with you. lol

What you saw was superman unleashing his full power and that is not something to fear (unless its injustice superman) it is something to be in awe at. Its rare to see superman use his full strength because he was raised on earth so he knows how "delicate" humans are compared to him, so up until that moment he was just naturally holding back. But it is so cool to watch him go full god mode on someone, since he only does that to the most powerful beings ever, we're universal threats. But i guess in this version doing that drained him of everything he had which is why his powers have shut down... for now
