I'M NOT OKAY!!! NOOO!!! I AM NOT OKAY!!!!!*Just a heads up, I'm going to move The Expanse to Fridays for the final season, since I'll be starting posting Buffy again next week, and I'd like to post those on Tuesdays, with Ted Lasso dropping Wednesdays. I think that works well, since I'll be wrapping TL and The Expanse right around the same time.

That one is still hard to watch even years later and had so much beautiful work in it. Effects, plots, storyline, launching into the final season... I consider it to a prefect episode.

James Smith

The look on Holden's face when Amos brings Peaches in...priceless.

Granger Hermion

Please search Cas Anvar and why his fate was sealed now. You will understand.

I have been informed and...yeah, sounds like a really unfortunate situation. I'm glad I didn't know ahead of time, because that would've affected my reaction, but it makes a lot of sense now why that happened to Alex.

I'm guessing by now you've heard about the IRL reason for Alex's death (if not, the information is out there on the Net). It was not in the original plan and not in the original version of this episode, but it became necessary, and they pulled it off with a handful of reshoots and a few clever edits in post. It's not perfect, but it holds together remarkably well. You've always been quite astute in observing the way this show was built, so if you didn't notice, I'd say they did a pretty good job. What you're interpreting as the team knowing the next season would be the final one could be possible, though they have claimed (at least publicly) that this was not the case. On the other hand, it is a fact that the original commitment they got from Amazon was for three seasons, and apparently there are some economic factors that make it difficult for a show on a streaming platform to make money after three seasons. I don't understand it all, but it's been said a number of times by the showrunner, the studio, and industry insiders in general, so I tend to believe it. What I think this means is that they may have thought the chances were better than even that Season 6 would be the last, but I'm not sure they wrote the show with that in mind. More likely is the fact that this story, which was originally told over a series of nine novels plus several novellas, can be broadly divided into (depending on whom you ask) either three or four "acts." The sixth book, upon which the sixth season was based, was basically the end of the penultimate act of the story. In the books, there is a 30 year time jump between books 6 and 7, so Season 6, like book 6, does wrap up a lot of ongoing threads. Not all, but a lot. So that's probably more what you are sensing here than certainty that the show was going to be ending soon. I think you will like Season 6; shortened as it was, most (though maybe not all) fans believe they stuck the landing. Certainly they did a better job in their final season than GoT did, though that's not necessarily a very high bar. 😊One thing I want to make you aware of, in case nobody else in the fandom has (and maybe they did, but in case) -- there is some additional content in Season 6 - a series of shorts, five of them that go with the first 5 episodes, collectively titled "One Ship." They are available in the "X-Ray" menu on most platforms. You should definitely check them out; they are all great little character moments that supplement the main story really well. Season 6, here we come! EDIT: Ah. Yes, figured you'd have read about Mr. Anvar by now. All the other comments appeared here while I was writing mine.

Drummer just can't catch a break. Her friends keep getting murdered by other Belter's and when she takes a stand half her family bounces. No wonder she such a cynical outlook on...everything.

I remember the news just before this season aired somewhat soured my experience back then. It was announced just before the season premiere that a decision had been made regarding Cas Anvar and that he would not be returning for the next season. So, anyone following the news at the time could probably have suspected that killing Alex off was a strong possibility. Amazon also announced that the show was renewed for season 6, but making it the final season. Considering they had to tinker with the story after it had already been shot and completed, just with some ADR and reshoots, I think they did a decent job. It does feel somewhat sudden, but they managed to weave it into the story well enough. And having Alex die while saving Naomi almost feels like one final bit of salt in the wound after everything Marco put her through throughout the season. I also believe Naomi was ready to die and had accepted her fate when she left the Chetzemoka. Her decision was one final, desperate attempt to save Alex and the incoming ship from being blown up. It was a longshot noticing her leaving the ship, and reaching her in time before her very limited air supply runs out. FYI, there is a small teaser during the credits which you might have missed when the camera is slowly moving towards the structure Cortázar has been showing during his call, and at the end it just stars to light up protomolecule blue.

It’s really unfortunate, he’s a great character that is important throughout the book series.

You made me cry all over again and then laugh with hand him to the Boltens!

Hurts just as much every time - I’ve even put off watching your reaction l, because this episode pains and frustrates me in equal measure. I’ve always just wished they did to Alex what they did to Prax, send him home to be with family or something, writing out the actor, keeping the character for potential recast if they ever make seasons beyond 6. Oh well…

00:15: Each season finale is titled after the novel that season is (more or less) adapting: Leviathan Wakes (book 1), Caliban's War (book 2), Abbadon's Gate (book 3), Cibola Burn (book 4), Nemesis Games (book 5), Babylon's Ashes (book 6). There are three books forming a conclusion trilogy that weren't adapted, unfortunately. The first six books are less two trilogies and more three duologies: Book 1 and 2 deal with the protomolecule, Book 3 and 4 with the Ring Gates, Book 5 and 6 the changing landscape of the solar system thanks to the Ring Gates. 50:52: Don't hold back, Jacqui. Tell us how you REALLY feel. 55:28: REALLY should have watched the end credit sequence. . . Worth noting: Camina and her people aren't just a crew, they're a six-person polycule, all romantically involved with each other. This isn't made truly explicit onscreen, and there does seem to be a few "primary" pairings, but part of what makes her storyline here so complicated is that her decisions aren't just affecting them as a captain to her crew, but as part of a complex web of romantic entanglements.
