I was NOT expecting Ted to nip it in the bud with Alice at the end, but I really appreciated him noticing the signs with Alice that he didn’t with Nate and putting that boundary up-it shows lots of growth on his part. I do think I wish he took the time to ask her what was wrong, but I don’t think she’s there yet and he recognizes that. You can tell he didn’t like doing it either, but sometimes you have to do the hard things to help people (i.e. benching Jamie). He also gave her plenty of warnings and she still showed she wasn’t taking him seriously. You could say maybe he was quick to suspend her, but I personally don’t think so. I’m excited for her to take the space she needs and eventually open up to Ted and be more open to support. Yes, hurt people hurt people, but being in pain doesn’t excuse hurtful behavior.

I completely agree with you about Tanya Reynolds. She's just insanely talented. Alice is my favorite character this season. Something very deep and very serious is going on with Alice, and I have no idea what it is. We're going to find out soon, though. She's falling apart. The close up shot of her packing up her things when the team was in the coaches office giving Ted his jeans was very close to the close up shots we used to get of Ted before he had a panic attack. As someone who has struggled with anxiety, depression, and trauma, I can just tell that her next step is falling apart. I think suspending her was absolutely the right thing to do. I think the isolation of being suspended and then having the Christmas break is going to be extremely difficult on her. I don't think it's going to be bad for her, I think it's going to be difficult on her. Big difference. I think we're going to see Tanya Reynolds at her absolute best in the next episode or two. They're gearing up for something seismic. I just don't know what it is, which bugs me to no end...in a good way. I also think that the issue between Alice and Gemma is much deeper. There's a lot more there than "she was mean to me when we played together". Gemma hates Alice. Which means Alice did something serious.

The bit where Alice snaps back “not in my experience” to Ted’s saying you always get another chance in sports almost broke me especially seeing the way they built her history . Also a bit of added context for Rebecca’s drunken half time speech, I urge you to google/youtube Delia Smith half time speech, Delia is basically the UK’s answer to Martha Stewart, made a lot of money and bought into her hometown club, Norwich City. One match, after enjoying a few beverages, where she wasn’t happy with the crowd she went on the pitch to gee them up! It’s a fantastic reference for those of us old enough to remember it!

So much in this episode to think about and to take away… The thing about Matthijs’s reaction I think may be something completely different. He is protective of his daughter. He’s been frank about a bitterness with his ex-wife, but has always seemed pleasantly tempered. It stands to reason that he would smooth over any bitterness when dealing with his daughter. I wonder if this was the first time Matthijs had left his daughter Jelka with anyone not in his family, and the first time she had been exposed to anything outside of his carefully controlled environment he built for her. Maybe he hadn’t even thought about what he would need to talk to Rebecca about, or he didn’t think he needed to, and was shocked when she broached what he considered a taboo topic for his daughter. Rebecca may want to be a mom, but she isn’t really ready for being that, especially coming into another’s parent dynamic. I bet a lot of his reaction comes from that. When it comes to Alice, everyone will have plenty to say (and yes, Tanya is killing it in the role). But here’s one thing that is really important that’s lost in today’s episode: Alice was right. If Gemma had followed her shot, she may have been able to get at that ball for a rebound, or at least trouble the goalie enough to not get the ball out for a quick counterattack. But her coaching has been lost in her delivery. Perhaps Gemma learning this is going to be Jamie’s “extra pass” lesson. Also, I second what Charlie said above: Check out the Delia Smith speech in relation to Rebecca. It feels in the way like a callback to Ted using the “Practice” rant by Allen Iverson back in season 1.

Oh, and I love that the turmoil in Alice’s mind is not the ringing that Ted’s panic attacks has, but a rumble that breaks into anger. It’s a great way of being an echo of Ted’s issues, but something different altogether.

Damn! Great observation, will definitely be looking out for this in future episodes and rewatches

I have tried several times, but I can not get this episode to sync. Is anyone else having an issue? Watching on Apple TV. The Patreon keeps falling behind. Thanks. Also, my comment about the opening is now moot.

Movie Night

My fault! I forgot to edit out a pause. Will reupload!

I'm really batting 1000 on this episode 😂

Fully agree about the 'follow your shot' moment. The thing is though, that I think it applied here but not, realistically, for her debut goal when there was no time to start forward before the goal was scored. The incident in this episode explains to me why the remark was made back then.

Zelda didn’t pass on the blocks of Tickets she paid for. She wanted Keely to be upset about the “empty” stadium so she will be more realistic in her ideas

I am probably way off here. Watching that last scene, now that both Rebecca and Keely are single, could we say a friends-to-lovers scenario?
