The theatrical starts with Gandalf, too, but the scene with Sam and Frodo that follow are different 🙂 And I hereby swear my oath that I shall not slice the palm of my h-- Crud.

Movie Night

😂 To be fair, I kind of broke that oath accidentally the other week, too. Cut my palm cleaning a blender. But as far as the opening scenes...thank you for clairfying! I honestly can't tell what's theatrical and extended at this point 😅

Ghost Writer

One of the best trilogies ever made, my favorite is The Return of the King. Extended of course.

Barry

Did you react to Return of the King? I don't see it in the list.

Unfortunately this was before motion capture (and even performance capture - the difference being that perfcap captures the entire range, including facial animations and voice). The AMAZINGLY TALENTED vfx artists at Weta Digital had to paint out Andy from every frame and hand animate Gollum/Sméagol based on his performance. It was only after this series that Andy invested himself into developing full performance capture equipment and techniques. The lovely folks at Corridor Crew did a few deep dives into the making of the visual effects of the Lord of the Rings. They're great info if you're interested in learning more about all of it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0jX_WmO7fCs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x6LzrlAM0_Q And here's Andy over a decade later talking about how he helped bring to life all the characters in the upcoming video game Squadron 42: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FanEYdkFQXA And yes, almost 8 years after that last video, it's just about done! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IDtjzLzs7V8

It's not in the movies, but in the books we learn that the reason Denethor knows a lot more than you would expect is that he (like Saruman) has a palantir. And the corruption from Sauron (similar to that of Saruman) is why he is full of despair and has no hope that they can win. (This is more apparent in the last movie, but we see a bit of it here.)
