The next episode will be far less trouble for your heart rate (and still a lot of fun). 🙂

Revisiting this series is such a joy. Thank you for reacting to it. They do set up and pay off so well in this series. Mal quips "now I'll have the advantage" when the Alliance officer handcuffs him again. Then he uses the handcuffs to his advantage in the fight. I also like how the episodes have tonal differences, keeps the series fresh. The characters are for sure archetypes, but the archetypes are introduced depth while also leaning into the archetype when it's appropriate. The characters are taken seriously whatever situation they are in. They live in the world that was built and that makes them real. I don't enjoy how nowadays a lot of characters blatantly have that *wink wink* "see what I did there" fourth wall breaking quality, as in writers patting themselves on the back how clever they can be. BTW. Not sure if you noticed, but you mislabeled this post as episode 1x04.

Bless you! Sorry about not warning you about the jump scares here, I guess our inner Niska came out...all at the same time... but we will try to warn you in upcoming episodes! Yup, loved the interrogation sequence, and how they cut to different crew members. I loved when they are interrogating Inara, and then the commander asks "And you love him?", where we find he is actually asking that question to Zoe! :D And just you wait on how they will push on network television down the line!

Are we supposed to warn you of jump scares? :P There are only one or two more jump scares that I can think of in the episodes, but they are considerably softer, less harsh, so I think you'll be ok. At least until the movie, there are a couple jumps in Serenity the movie. Some of the Firefly episodes are homages to other genres, and this one is the horror homage. I myself am not a horror fan, and so this episode falls at the bottom of my favorites list, but despite that the cross-cut interview sequence is one of my favorite scenes in the whole series :)

I live for the Interview sequence. There’s a lot to say with how ill-fated this show was and the missteps Fox made (by not airing the pilot first), but for the former film student in me, this episode is a screamingly good introduction episode. As episode 3 (and in the actual broadcast, number 2!), this episode has three purposes: 1. Further introduce and cement the character archetypes and dynamics 2. Set up the “Government” in this Western environment 3. Set up the “savages” of this Western, which unfortunately represented Indians, but here it’s far less objectionable stereotyping. The latter two concepts are so hugely important to the ongoing story, and I think the importance of them gets lost (partially because of the story getting abbreviated and only kinda finished). But even though not every episode contains both of those forces, the subtext of having them permeates all the stories in this show. Jacqui, I’m glad you survived the jump scares. Also, your “Captain -pants may get a very new phrase added in the next episode. It’s good to get to see you laugh a bit more in this show. Now…Jacqui, this next comment is not for you. This comment is for your viewers, so Jacqui, do not read past this point. I’d love a reply, but not on this last line. This is only for those of us who have watched the show, okay? OKAY???? Okay… … … Stop reading, Jacqui!!! … … … … … Okay, are we safe? All here now? Jacqui gone? Good. Gang……is anyone worried for our dear Jacqui after seeing her jump scare reaction, knowing what is eventually coming. And don’t ask what…you know what I mean? Is it just me?

Not a spoiler by any means, but one thing I will say about the show, while short and sweet, it is a complete show, by that I mean, there doesn't seem like a story or experience unexplored in some sense in the little they were able to give us.

Sensual but wholesome pretty much defines Morena's career.

I've watched a LOT of reactions, and reactors over the last few years, and dozens of Firefly reactors. Watched yours, and debated joining up. Then I watched THIS one! You are now one of my faves, and just joined up BEFORE I found out you are reacting to Shogun! So excited!!!

Now you know that THAT is just out there. Waiting. Watching. The alliance knows the threat is there, but they don't care. And the people living on the edge just have to live with it, if they ever make it there.
