Got to put a bit of a gore warning on this chapter. I may have gone a little overboard?

SO MUCH STUFF happening. The story's exploded with paths, and now I need to work on tying some of them off.

Well done. Loved the vivid descriptions. It was nice to see an anime-level scene happen. I await the next chapter with bated breath.

Malcolm

Don’t know if I can read this tonight, will have to get back to you tomorrow

Karen Nelson

Great chapter. Still a bit confused as to why Jack spilled his blood on his Sires ashes. Was it just the process of summoning the crows? Or was there another significance?

Phantomwolf

Great chapter! Gets better every time I read a new one! So far this is my favorite chapter. Really have a burning itch to see Angela get what she has earned.

TeDureShi

1 step forwards 2 steps back, you a menace my friend. Angela escaped again! I can't wait till Jack gets her

Alejandro Salas

Bloody brilliant. Pun definitely intended!

I probably should have spent a few more sentences explaining what that was about. Summoning an army like that, from a distance, requires a Kindred to spill their own blood. Viktor did it in Part 1, to summon his army of rats. Julias's ashes were in the way. :(

Thanks! Hopefully readers don't get too annoyed by this carrot on a stick I've been leading them on with for 3 Parts now.

Hey Novus. Not really a comment sort. However, this chapter deserves something extra. I believe this is your most creative, best written chapter so far. You are improving with each submission. Keep up the good work.

AniNovu

Thanks! Killing a character and dealing with the fallout isn't exactly erotica material. I'm glad I've found a niche readers enjoy.

Sildani

Great chapter. Very glad that some threads, laid long ago, are getting tied up well. Still angry at the death, since he’s the guy who got me in to this story to begin with.

AniNovu

In the future, I might be a little more careful about killing off a character involved in erotic scenes. There's a dissonance in the storytelling vs. erotic element that causes. I'll definitely have some Discussion posts about it, since I'm still not sure how to approach this specific storytelling tool in the future. 🤔

Sildani

Responding to your comment; there’s that, in a way, but it’s more that I wonder if Julias HAD to die at that point, or if his imminent demise or capture might have been sufficient to awaken the Beast. I’m fully aware that, in reality, no one has plot armor, and I also know that the great can be laid low by the petty - if you read any of the Dragonlance novels of old, a few of the main characters that’ve been through a TON of adventures (and novels) get killed very simply, with little fanfare, I think to make that very point. So, if it was your intention to show that, in your storytelling, no one’s immune, you made it. I think that Julias simply had more to offer as a character, and in his interactions with his lovers, companions, and rivals, and now we’ll never get to read it.

I suppose that's the eternal struggle authors make when deciding whether to kill a character or not. I could have easily justified in the narration a way for Julias to live, but that would have damaged the narrative weight of the scene I was aiming for. I wanted the reader to get angry, and invested. I could go too far, and authors often do, just to be dicks. I remember the scene in Saving Private Ryan, where Private Mellish is slowly stabbed to death in the final conflict, very slowly; a truly sickening scene. Corporal Upham was just down the stairs, and could have saved him at any moment, but he was paralyzed in fear. The viewer of the movie is forced to watch a character they'd grown quite attached to, die an agonizing, disturbing death. I'll always remember that scene, because I think it went WAY over the line, to the point I won't watch that film again because of how angering that scene is. If I ever go that far, to the point people won't even want to read the story anymore, because all it does is make the reader angry or sad, without any satisfaction or catharsis to be found, please warn me!

100% agree on the Julias discussion. I found it so heart renching because Julias and Triss were like the starting couple of the story so their relationship was at the for front. Now probably skip triss erotica scenes because I'll just be missing julias.Any guy triss gets with will only be compared to julias. He won't go by name he'll just be go by "not julias". He won't get a fair chance because I'll just be wishing he was julias in ever seen he's in.

That's an interesting challenge for me as a writer, to see if I can navigate the 'mourning' waters. What you're describing is a very real problem people go through in real life, and overcoming it in real life is difficult. I'm not saying I'm throwing another romance partner at Triss, but if I do, or if a similar situation arises in my next series, steering in those turbulent waters could make for some very compelling reading.

Sildani

Man, I’m SO not looking forward to Triss’ grieving... I can only imagine Black Blood feeling her grief and rage, and offering her everything she wants... and ain’t no one gonna be around to tell her not to take it. Jacob’ll either be encouraging her, or Blood will bitch-slap him into next week should he try to interfere... As for the Triss sex scenes... if there are any more... yeah, I have to agree, it’s all going to be very much a “not Superman” feeling...

Malcolm

Such an utter blur of emotions; I was completely hooked for 30 pages straight. I don't know if I'm entirely with Antoinette yet, I still feel a tightness in my chest, unwilling to relax. But there is good news, and relish it I shall.

AniNovu

I too like to relish these post-climax moments in the story. Now I get to write sex scenes and more cozy dialogue.
