“Motherworld’s Dominion? I thought they closed that place down” - Eric

On our first commentary of the year, we’re talking over Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon - Part One: A Child of Fire! How glum does this movie get? Is there anything else to this color palette besides piss yellow? Why did this whole movie have to be getting a team together— slowly? Why couldn’t we get a little gore in this? And from how many movies can one movie steal?

Rebel Moon - Part One: A Child of Fire stars Sofia Boutella, Djimon Hounsou, Ed Skrein, Michiel Huisman, Bae Doona, Cleopatra Coleman, Ray Fisher, Charlie Hunnam, Staz Nair, Fra Fee, and Sir Anthony Hopkins as the voice of Jimmy the Robot; directed by Zack Snyder.

If you are watching along (which we encourage) and have to re-start your sync for any reason, we start the movie at the 00:00:05 mark and the commentary starts at the 00:05:01 point of this audio track.

Snyder isn't doing himself any favors by being his own director of photography.

Charles Grodin's Toupee is Having Fargo Sex

Fantastic artwork by Felipe. It real nails the experience of watching Rebel Moon, which like being tied to a chair with the threat of a spike going through your head.

Zora McBride

Yes yes and more yes! I can't believe we're already at the first *mentary of 2024! You guys really are a buncha masochists', eh? "No no no, Harry Potter was getting too good with its new director and orientation towards older viewers. You know what we need to endure? another entry in the ever-growing Snyderverse!" Y'all remain the best. Don't forget to wear the blue! I can't wait for this year's episode, ... ... eric! :P

Zora McBride

These guys showed me Suckerpunch, which I appreciate, as it taught me to hate Snyder. lol That's truly one of the worst movies I've ever seen. :) But watching and experiencing Andrew's rage is so cathartic! His palpable anger when saying, "i hate, this, ... i hate this," is exactly correct.

MarkNM

"Hello gentlemen. It's time to play a little game..."

Comrade Trash Panda

I love you guys but I couldn't make it through my first viewing of Rebel Moon and I can't bring myself to endure a second even if it's accompanied by your, no doubt, brilliant commentary

MarkNM

To which podcast did you lose the bet? Gary's Olde Towne Talk? I'm sure this will be a spectacular listen while I drive...thanks but no thanks to the visual aid.

Frank Grimes

This might make the movie go faster. I struggled like hell to get through the movie when it first released...which is funny cause I was able to sit through Snyder's JL fine...and watched it in 1 sitting

John Edwards

Waking up on a Wednesday thinking, "Boy, I can't wait to rewatch Rebel Moon after work," is a truly harrowing life to lead.

Kureigu

Not watched this movie yet so my first time watching will be with the commentary. *Edit* Wow that was an awful movie thank god for the commentary to help get through it.

Noura Sarayel

Can’t afford a Netflix subscription rn so I’m listening to this while watching a two hour cut of Greed (1924) 🔥🔥🔥🔥

Alexander Farr

This commentary is the only reason I am going to watch this movie. Star Wars has officially moved beyond my interest so when I heard the king of the edge lords was making a movie that Lucasfilm passed on I felt very comfortable letting it go by without even trying it. Excited to get back to Potter too. Eric's continued disdain for the character of Harry is a bottomless well of comedy.

Busiris

I was in the "Still haven't, still happy" camp for awhile. I literally went back and forth on whether or not I'd watch this movie when it released last year. I eventually decided "You know what? Nah. No thanks." but now you guys have forced my hand! So it looks like I'll be watching this dreck after all. Thankful that I'll have you guys to talk over it, so it'll be endurable.

I.C. Weiner

Fuck, I'm only halfway through the movie and feel like I'm being tortured. I hate you guys for doing this to me (your jokes are good though) Update: I died laughing when Steve fell asleep. It was 100% worth it for that moment alone

imipolexGforce

true story if all the slo-mo shots in this movie were at regular speed it would be 7 minutes and 22 seconds long

Chris Tobias

Encourage me to watch along you say? I think not.

Darryl Bowen

No interest to watch the movie but look forward to listening to you all talk about it

Watch_N_Rewatch

I honestly wish the gang did a power hour during this commentary ... All the same Steve would still probably end up sleeping during it 😂

Geoffrey T. Blackwell

Listening to this may be the only way I make it all the way through that movie. I bailed after 50-ish minutes the first time I tried to watch.

Kevin Lynch

I feel like you should be paying me to watch this

Tim O'

This movie has served an important historical purpose in that it got Zack Snyder to admit in public that Netflix automatically assumes that at least two people are watching whenever anything is streamed.

RJ Cunningham

At 49:35ish in the movie, Eric’s “hey look a cop” got me cackling

Felipe Sobreiro

Is there a way to turn off the Andrés Serrano filter of the movie?

Adam Lewis

You'll gaze through urine and like it!

Tim O'

Me: I'm not watching this. I'll just listen along. Andrew, 45 seconds in: "Already it's too much. Look at this vagina, by the way." Me: ...fuck, do I have to watch this?

The Great Wheel

Watching this at the holidays with my family my main takeaway was that I don't think Zack Snyder has ever actually sat down and watched Seven Samurai.

MarkNM

More like Andrés Ceroté.

Elliott Tipton

No fault to the gang, but this was the worst commentary they've done...purely based on content...I found myself straightening picture frames and sweeping my floor just to get through. *By content i mean the movie. If you can even call it that

Francis

Honestly this is the first time I've ever regretted synching the commentary to the actual movie. I'd rather rewatch all four Twilight movies than go through Rebel Moon again.

RJ Cunningham

Even though the movie is basura the commentary was very funny

Jason

Just got to wait, Andrew said they’re releasing a 6-hour “WHM director’s cutmentary”on this commentary that ties everything together to have it all make sense.

Pete

I could listen to the WHM boys talk about paint drying for two hours and be happy. They performed great, commentary-wise. This movie tho? Irredeemable. After really liking Dawn of the Dead and Watchmen, I now fully believe he’s a hack.

Trev Herron

shit I have to watch this now don't I. How does this guy keep escaping movie jail

Felix Forrester

I pride myself on finding any value in a bad movie. This was a fucking ordeal. It makes an okay screen saver at a 20 year old's yuengling-fueled houseparty I guess?

Jules

Oh fuck. I really have to do this. And I still haven’t finished Army of the Dead 😭

Ajax

Oh I'm a Steve sleeping truther! He fell asleep multiple times.(and who could blame him)

Chris D.

I love these "Steve as the audience surrogate" commentaries

Todd B

Since it didn't come up in the commentary, I have to ask here - have any of the guys had the pleasure of seeing this movie DID have product tie-ins (Liquid Death being one have spotted in the wild.) Mostly, they seemed to just quietly make their way to clearance shelves.

May

I truly thought Steve’s snores were him joking or someone was sick with a stuffy nose. I honestly forgot I had the movie on after a while and just listened to the episode like a regular episode.

Kemper

I can relate to Steve because even though the commentary was great, this movie kept putting me to sleep. 😴

Smaug

I loved the commentary but sweet fancy Jesus was I struggling to watch this movie. I've never seen a progress bar crawl so slowly across a screen

J HEASLEY

Who continues to give Snyder a job?

Ray

I feel asleep with about 45 minutes left, I assume the end of the commentary is the sound of snoring. This fucking movie.

TheBestMike

Holy Cow, this "film" has an "Indecent Proposal" scene! The WHM boys just might be "seers"

Catboyslim

Dudes! Part 2 is out on Netflix, the gang has gotta roast these hams!

Zora McBride

Oh man, any time one of them hasn't seen it, great times are had. Erick enduring HP is some of the best content they've ever made, his rage and contempt bubbling just beneath the surface. ... "Are there beanstalks in this movie?"
