It's the March edition of our TV recap flashback show, let's head back to sexy, sunny 1990's Los Angeles on MELR0210!

First up on Beverly Hills, 90210, we're chatting about the outrageous episode, "Highwire"! Originally airing on September 23, 1992, this episode has David Silver accidentally creeping on Kelly in the shower, Andrea becoming paranoid about not getting into Yale, Steve Sanders chasing after the mythical school skeleton key, the Walsh parents sweating it over how to pay for their kids' college educations, and the rest of the gang fighting over whether or not to go to college!

Then over on Melrose Place, it's the hilarious-at-times episode, "Love, Mancini Style." Premiering back on March 16, 1994, this soap-y chapter of this show has Jo trying to get over Reed by talking to his ghost, Matt trying to rescue Sydney from being murdered by Michael, Billy and Alison arguing over planning their shitty wedding, and Jake and Amanda going at it (literally and figuratively) when Jake says he wants to take over Reed's charter business.

MELR0210 is a WHM podcast where the guys blissfully stroll through the Beverly Hills, 90210 and Melrose Place timelines. The TV episodes covered will run in broadcast order.

17 schools? That is 17 application fees! 1990s applicati[n fees were what? $30 each? That's $510! My dad would've killed me!

So if you're in the 90210 cohort you can't smoke, drink, do drugs, and you gotta have good grades and make it into college.. Are these kids trying to form their own nerd Skull and Bones society or something

I feel you on financial aide....I was also in that grey/middle area where parents were no where near rich but made "too much" I didn't qualify for aide.

Wasn’t it established Jim’s company purchased the Walsh mansion for Jim as compensation? Why the first mortgage? The Yakuza came knocking when Jim failed to move those karaoke machines.

I'm commenting while watching the episode before listening to the podcast, but this master key thing is making me insane. I was a school janitor for 7 years and had a master key, the idea that it would open a single file cabinet is ABSURD. Just imagine every creepy janitor having the home address to all the high school girls and boys 👀 especially back before there was mandatory background checks. That's the real horror of this episode for me lol

Reading about the BTS drama makes me wonder if they started to write Brenda Walsh to be obnoxious because that was their opinion of Doherty, but I really find her character so off-putting now. I was watching Last Week Tonight and they had a huge spoiler for an upcoming story beat for Melrose Place, I can't wait for it, but also how dare they spoil a 30 year old show!

It is so funny that Nikki is supposedly younger than Brandon, but the actress is 3 years older than Jason Priestley.

My husband was rewatching Northern Exposure recently and he told me they referenced Twin Peaks as being a real place, so 90210, Melrose, and Twin Peaks are officially in the same universe.

I think I applied to 8 or 9 colleges back in the early 14th century.

Steve Sanders has been waiting *years* to present his ideas to the others.

The title pun "Love, Mancini Style," was already over a decade past its sell-by date when this episode aired. That show (edit: Love, American Style, kids) was so old it spun off Happy Days.

Was "The Heights" a 90210 spinoff as well? I feel like it might have been.

Hard To Gwil

Not quite a slasher but Daphne Zuniga and the guy who plays Reed are in a 1992 made for TV erotic thriller knock-off called Prey Of The Chameleon. The VHS cover shows Daphne with a full back tattoo of a chameleon. Friday night plans confirmed!

I don’t know much about Twin Peaks, but I wonder if the good Mancini is in the Red Room

The Great Wheel

Oh yeah, so, in some places, including California, if you report someone missing or some such and it turns out they aren't you personally have to pay for any search effort made. Not the cops just doing their job phonecall type stuff though like if they get a helicopter or the pd does a bunch of driving you have to cover some of the gas. It's to discourage assholes.

Wrt blood boat, idk if some places do clean up on auction items, but if so, the truck that one of my uncles bought years ago at police auction that still had blood all over the ceiling and upper part of the passenger side door was an oversight. Or it was a later addition, which is more worrisome.
