Recorded December 4, 2024 at Laugh Boston - Boston, MA

“Could I get some ‘directions’ over here?” - Eric

On the final Summer Live episode this season, it’s our show from last year in Boston chatting about the rom-com classic, Pretty Woman! What kind of high society rich-guy party hires a close-up magic performer? Why did they write Julia’s character to act like a space alien? How about that McDLT commercial?! And did Garry Marshall push for Hector Elizondo to play E.T.? PLUS: The super-mega-sized finale of the VHS Trailer Game!

Pretty Woman stars Julia Roberts, Richard Gere, Jason Alexander, Ralph Bellamy, Laura San Giacomo, Alex Hyde-White, Amy Yasbeck, and Hector Elizondo as Barney Thompson; directed by Garry Marshall.

Ray

My grandma inexplicably loved this movie. (She had a hard on for Richard Gere) Edit: Understandably.

Ray

Truth.

Paul

Chris literally tortured the guys with his lengthy and grueling VHS Trailer Game finale. 😂👍🏻

Jan

Sad that you dont get 3 men and a baby

David

I never realised before my gift of recalling forgotten Touchstone Pictures' movies of the late 1980s....

James C Harris

"Dermot?" should be Steve's battlecry

Jaime Lee Ezell

Shelley Long was my favorite actress as a kid in the 80s, I definitely saw that one a bunch!!

Jaime Lee Ezell

The Beatles song movie was another one we had on Betamax!

Tim O'

The subtitle for this VHS Trailer Game could be "The Wasteland of '80s Garbage," good lord

Matt Reid

SO happy Steve picked On Deadly Ground!

Ed Harris

I saw the movie once when it first came out on VHS and other than that the only experience I’ve had with it is reading the first draft screenplay in film school.

Derek Baxter

Cackling at Steve playing D&D. “…Dermot?”

JK

"Cocktail...ah, fuck" is an instant classic Trailer Game moment

Ray

Who pissed in Andrew's milk that morning lol

Busiris

Might be an all-timer for the VHS trailer game. Nearly 45 minutes and I'm loving it. I also had the rare "Yelling in my car" moment because the very first movie trailer is a movie I've requested for LRM every single year, haha.

Woofenstein

I knew it was Beaches. - signed, a millennial woman

Todd B

On the one hand, this round of the trailer game gave me concerns that Chris was going mad with power. On the other, I had an audible burst out laughing moment over the first half of Steve's D&D round.

Eren Keskin

The fact that Gere didn't end up becoming POTUS by the finale is the most unrealistic part of this movie.

Clever Girl

Wait...why does Andrew remember so much about pornography's contributions to film? He really rattled off those deets on the spot. 😂

Clever Girl

Also, Hector Elizondo is the Joey Pants of romantic comedy. We love to see 'em.

Voror

My biggest takeaway is why haven't we had a special episode for Hot Frosty? This one was a lot of fun and a nice end to the VHS Trailer Game this season!

Melissa Benjamin

I rarely get the answers to the VHS Trailer Game, but I was screaming Ernest Goes to Camp from my kitchen, and I’ve never even seen it. 😂😂😂

Local Man Loses Pants, Life (LMLPL)

Wait, did the Game King give "Oops all Dylans" to Steve and the opposite to Eric? If Eric went 0 for 10, I say Congrats! Anyone who know statistics means that's just as hard to do as 10 - 0 !

profondo robbo

My guess is he only found out about it after last December's programming had been locked in and they were too busy touring to fit in another episode. Maybe it'll be this December's OIAL pick.

profondo robbo

He's just very invested in the history of home media formats.

Robert Walton

Kinda want an episode on Hot Frosty now.

johnny stocker

That is probably the only one I've ever known that has stumped the panel. My VHS collection as a kid consisted mostly of things I taped during free HBO weekends, and I had that baby on tape and watched it quite a few times.

Busiris

It's a little bit of a WLM for me! I got that thing on standard def DEE VEE DEE.

Toddrow101

I’m atrocious at the VHS Trailer Game and somehow the guys kept punting while I was getting them from hint #1. Overall I’d lose, but I was surprised/happy about this.

Matthew Lloyd

He teams up with Roberts again in the awful Mothers day film.

Craig

Same and I’ve never seen it either, or any of them! And ironically they then talk about Ernest movies in the Pretty Woman show.

Craig

I’ve loved Chris’s questions as Jamemaster. It’s been rare previously for the questions to get to the fifth clue, so I think the more challenging quiz has been great. so keep up the high degree of difficulty next season Steve!

Matt

I'm hoping for the December OIAL episode

Todd B

Seconding this

JK

Steve returning will be great but I very much enjoyed our Game King's run as well

Clever Girl

Yes. And Valentines Day.

Rose Esposito

I'm utterly dead at the Hot Frosty tangent. I did in fact watch that with my mom last Yuletide; as I recall (from my Letterboxd review) it has a surprisingly awesome ACAB ending. <3

Darryl Bowen

Yeah I was shouting Ernest and Can't Buy Me Love

JK

"Cum gutters" will always get a hearty laugh out of me

Tim O'

The way Steve says "this little trollop" at 1:55:38 has given me a new lease on life

Tim O'

Pornography's Contributions to Film is a 400-level film school class ☝️🤓

Clever Girl

😂 it does sound legit

johnny stocker

I did too, but I'm about 10 years older than the guys and had watched a lot of those multiple times on HBO preview weekends or VHS rentals

Jethro Gulner

My favorite part of the D&D segment was where the guys got so many wrong they cut sad trombone short

Tim Batson

For me, WHM is the goddess

Jonnie Sea

I’m the asshole SCREAMING Ernest Goest to Camp, and Hello Again…I take no pride in this

Jan

Bravo, what a fantastic eps, thank you for not editing out the snow man stuff! Lovin’ it. And fck McDonald’s🙏🏼🇸🇪
