“She comes out in a mech suit to fold the burritos…” - Eric on Ripley working at Chipotle

“She comes out in a mech suit to fold the burritos…” - Eric on Ripley working at Chipotle

On this month’s We ❤️ Movies, which also happens to be the season 16 premiere of the show (!!!!), we’re chatting about one of the most requested films in show history, James Cameron’s Aliens! Should 20th Century Fox have let Cameron leave in that extra 20 minutes? Would this franchise have continued if Ripley were written out in the cold open here? Has Lance Henriksen ever been better? And, hey, can we also volunteer to be cryogenically put to sleep for 57 years? PLUS: Congratulations to Jonesy, history’s oldest cat!

Aliens stars Sigourney Weaver, Carrie Henn, Michael Biehn, Lance Henriksen, Bill Paxton, William Hope, Jenette Goldstein, Al Matthews, Mark Rolston, Ricco Ross, Colette Hiller, Daniel Kash, Cynthia Dale Scott, Tip Tipping, Trevor Steedman, and Paul Reiser as Burke; directed by James Cameron.

Yas,my drive from Inverness to Edinburgh just got a whole lot more funny.

Paul

Game over, man. Game over. Game over.

Graeme Hill

Oh, this movie has it all! Guns, kick ass women (and men), mech-suits, aliens, greasing corpo scumbags. It's just the full package.

Paul

Eric: “It is season Sweet 16. That’s why we’re all wearing Quinceañera dresses right now.” 💖💖💖💖

Charlie

I have been consuming only alien content for like a month I am so ready to hear the fellas talk Aliens.

WarOfTheBees

I don't know why but for some reason I always bounced off of this movie. It's not that I dislike it. It just never clicks for me. But I really like Alien 3 so what the fuck do I know?.

Tim O'

I'm liking the Alien vs. Loomis bit at the beginning. "It's an alien spider-crab that fucks your throat, sheriff!"

James C Harris

For some reason the episode launched in .5 the speed and everything sounded like you all were in slow motion.

Oh! That Guy.

As a kid I was fascinated how there were toy commercials for an R movie released 6 years prior. Turns out there was a cartoon these were meant to promote on Fox Kids but the show was cancelled before airing. Speculated reasons could be that Alien3 failed so hard or or that there were tightened restrictions from the Children's Television Act. Anyways, I can't wait to listen. This movie is a sacred cow for me and they always turn out to be my favorite eps from the gang.

Craig

Nukes, knives, sharp sticks!

Craig

Definitely an “I got it” for me but perhaps it’s because I saw this first and only saw the original many years later.

Rob Brown

Last year, Marvel did a pretty great “What If…?” comic mini series about what might happen if Burke had survived, and it’s more comedic than you’d think. It becomes more like Officespace in the Aliens universe, as Burke had to take the fall for the events of the movie and has been trying to get back in the good graces of W-Y after being banished to an outpost at the ass-end of space. Paul Reiser and his son either co-wrote or developed the series, I’m not sure HOW involved, but it definitely feels like it has his voice.

MarkNM

"Credit card? You got it!"

Voror

Halloween 3 could have been this concept if instead of turning their heads into bugs it made them all serial killers. Then you just have a bunch of kids in masks running around killing people.

Barista Bran

My kingdom for a WLM on Starship Troopers

Darcie Hannah

This is my absolute favorite movie of all time. I am so excited you guys are finally doing it! It has everything! Sigourney Weaver being a badass, Bill Paxton being a smart-ass, and so many quotable lines.

Felipe Sobreiro

Hard agree with Stephen about the whole obsession with box office online talk and how much each movie made... Who cares, that speaks nothing about the cultural value of movies.

Jaime Lee Ezell

So excited!!! “Why doncha put her in charge?!”

Tim O'

I'm imagining a guy who refuses to watch Tarkovsky movies because he's unimpressed with the Soviet box office numbers from the 1970s

James C Harris

I just set it to normal speed though the idea of the boys having gone through a Star Trek TMP wormhole had crossed my mind

Sehnsucht666

🎶 come on babe, we're gonna breach the hull... With acid blood🎶 *alien jazz hands*

Tala Hobballah

I'm glad they deleted the scene of Ripley having a daughter. 1) not mentioning it once in Alien is a huge plot hole Cameron??? 2) it makes the Newt relationship stronger to me because found family is motherhood.

Paul Deehan

I want to see Loomis in the colonial marines gear.

Eren Keskin

Alien Queen is the dream milf for every crush fetishist

Paul Deehan

Those toys were my introduction to the films as well, was obsessed with them even though I only got a few.

Dominic Kovell

As a wise man once said, it's okay to like a movie

Paul Deehan

I always took the "it doesn't matter if its Arcturian" thing to be a colony that had a Thailand style reputation for trans people.

Matt

Opening this episode with a rant against the trades and r/boxoffice hits like what I imagine heroin feels like. Love it!

Gone

I don’t think anyone would argue against Bill Paxton being the bigger name actor than Michael Biehn. And yet they’ve acted together in at least three movies and Biehn outranks him in the cast every time.

I.C. Weiner

This movie has just never hit for me, and I think it is partly because I love Alien so much and Aliens is such a massive departure. Also, sorry if you guys mention later in the episode that I'm not at yet, but in the video game Alien: Isolation you play as Ripley's daughter trying to get closure about her mom's death, and won't you believe it, she ends up having to deal with a xenomorph

Kureigu

First time i saw this film I was 8 or 9. Older kid i met randomly had it on vhs, I'd go to his house before school and we would watch 10 min of it before we had to go to school each morning. I was an adult before I saw the whole film in one sitting lol

MANTE IV

H.R. Giger definitely painted at least one dickhugger. 38:35

Ed Harris

There was a Reeboks print ad that advertised the movie.

Ed Harris

Absolutely. If a person insists on being boring, they could at least pick a more interesting way to go about it.

MANTE IV

There is a deleted scene where Ripley runs into what’s left of Burke in the hive. She leaves him a grenade as a final mercy. Somebody tell Jupin how to pronounce Giger’s name right. And wake up Hicks.

James

Speaking of “ice cold Pepsi,” do yourself a favor and look up Alien 3 Pepsi commercial.

Matthew Lloyd

Anyone played Alien Isolation? Its about Ripleys daughter hiding from a single alien.

Alex

having a little black cat is like microdosing Ellen Ripley's life

Emil Svensson

The alien has always held a lot more interest to me as a psychosexual nightmare rather than what it was turned into in subsequent films.

Emil Svensson

To be fair, the crew's families are never mentioned in the original, so Ripley's not being brought up wouldn't have felt odd. It's not unusual for new aspects of characters to be unveiled in sequels.

Jonathan Lyons

There are only so many sentences in the world, so I like to point out when I see a new one. I really dig that, man 🌟

j

The Queen broke the truce first!

Tala Hobballah

She had so many near death experiences around people to not mention needing to get back home to a daughter. It's a Cameron thing the tie to motherhood. He's a frenemy for a reason.

Matt Watterson

I got a trophy when that fucking thing killed me for the 100th time.

Jason

I’m mean fuck you, Steve. I’ve been out here fighting to restore the Dundee-verse for over 30 years! I’m going to get Mick Dundee vs Predator vs Alien made if it kills me!

Jason

And yes, Mick Dundee will be played by Henry Cavill. Duh!

Oliver Smith

The one that finally got me to join Patreon.

Graeme Hill

There needs to be a new Ripley tier, which is just Steve playing Alien Isolation in VR. With the rest of the boys applying CPR as and when required.

Matthew Lloyd

It would just be him saying "ok this will be the point I kill myself" while he tries to open an ingame airlock.

Craig

Cameron cut it when he realised it was too soon for the facehugger to be off Burke’s face. Back when the Alien franchise cared about things like logic and consistency.

Craig

I would like to know more

WarOfTheBees

Andrew only seeing Starship Troopers once and not resisting has fucking shaken me. Easily the best US political satire of...ever?

MANTE IV

Oh no my wogical fwanchise.

Damon LeCornu

Michael$? I will take your money now.

Vicky I

the fact that there might actually be a WLM on Heat has given me more hope than anything else has this year

Jack

Personal taste but I hate the daughter thing from the director's cut unfortunately - I think it makes the Newt stuff way way too 1:1

rob_sothoth

I screened this film for a much younger friend of mine. He pointed out something I think has already been mentioned elsewhere, and I've seen this film a bunch of times. In the scene where Burke and Gorman show up at Ripley's apartment. She makes them both coffee and while Gorman appears to drink his, Burke goes to the fridge without asking, adds milk and then leaves the apartment with his coffee untouched. Says a lot about his character, lmao

Robert

I immensely enjoyed Steve saying “fuck off” to a predator Super-Man

Jonathan D Lackey

tbh that sounds like hot garbage but if they made that work I I'm impressed

Adam Lewis

At the drop of a hat, this crew will podcast and roll.

Louis Steimel

Did they combine Millennium and Brimstone?

MarkNM

Cameron thinks Biehn dinner is a main course.

MarkNM

HUDSON, GET YOUR ASS AWAY FROM THERE.

MarkNM

This was technically the first Alien series film I saw, and I watched the hell out of it. When I finally saw the original I was like "Ohhhhhhh" and the aesthetic reset for me. It's one of the greatest sequels ever made, but it does have spin-off energy.

MarkNM

There's very little in the expanded cut that would have made the theatrical cut any better.

Viscera-Bandito

I'm glad you guys like the show. I'm enjoying the story despite hating half the characters (I think you're supposed to hate them)

Winson Paine

But how do you know if your team is winning because your personality has become investment in a movie series

Rob Brown

It’s pretty fun, and even when Burke is trying to be more of a good guy, he’s still a total dickhead.

Winson Paine

BUT THEN YOU HAVE NEVER SEEN HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA

MarkNM

The eternal schoolyard arguments with eternal children.

Adam Ray

It's like a dick measuring contest using someone else's dick. Fuck who are they trying to, who HAVE they impressed with that bullshit?

Jamie

You know what also made that podcast list? That fucked up Richard Simmons one.

Molly Pitzer

The back-to-back releases of Aliens and Pretty Woman has me *really* wishing for an episode on Working Girl (1988)! Directed by Mike Nichols! Sigourney as the villain! Harrison Ford as the shirtless hunk/love interest! Joan Cusack as the Jersey -in-the-80s-to-the-max BFF! Alec Baldwin as the hot-yet-skeezy ex! (Ok, Kevin Spacey snorting coke, watching porn, and sexually harrassing women in a limo? Holy yikes!) A killer theme song by Carly Simon! An ending that'll make you cry and cheer! And Melanie Griffith as Tess McGill is one of my top 3 favorite film characters! When people say they like Pretty Woman, they need to be deprogrammed Clockwork Orange-style by watching this film on repeat. 😄❤️🎬🤞 Watch the trailer here! https://youtu.be/va1UqFivi6A?si=_GF-PtIPMEKU_Om_

Elliott Tipton

Wasn't gonna read down...I'm with Chris and this is my favorite franchise. Could I be so rude as to suggest Jurassic Park saw these movies?

Tala Hobballah

"That's on the director to figure out, not my fucking job!" I want this on a shirt

Jessica

I’m probably alone in this but I was rooting for Newts downfall. Couldn’t stand that dirty faced kid!
