We're talking high school student protests and multiple forms of kidnapping on this month's flashback to sexy, primetime TV in the 90s, MELR0210!

First up on Beverly Hills, 90210, we're protesting to let Donna Martin graduate in "Something in the Air." Originally broadcast on May 12, 1993, this episode showcases the famous West Beverly student protest wherein the gang recruits a bunch of other kids to force the school board to still let Donna walk across the stage, even after she got fall-down drunk at the prom! We've also got some great Mel Silver pathos going on, along with Jim Walsh reminiscing about his time trying to get laid--er--protesting the Vietnam War!

Then, across town on Melrose Place, we're up to our ears in various forms of kidnapping in "Just Say No." Premiering back on December 5, 1994, this is the episode where things finally come to a head with Jane, Michael, Sidney, Jake, and, of course, Australian Chris! It also features Jo trying (and failing) to get her baby back from Kimberly; Billy, Susan, and Matt getting Alison to agree to go to rehab (sort of); and Amanda, Peter, and his coalition of doctors make their play at D&D by installing Amanda as the new Vice President, which just sends Bruce swinging!

MELR0210 is a WHM podcast where the guys blissfully stroll through the Beverly Hills, 90210 and Melrose Place timelines. The episodes covered will run in broadcast order unless otherwise specified.

God damn, I cannot wait until those 90210 kids get to college. That show goes INSANE in just the best possible way.

This being my first watchthrough, I was pretty amused to see that all of the stuff Jerry is getting grilled about in the Seinfeld ep where he's taking a lie detector test about his MP viewership is happening right here.

James

Top tier Billy impressions this month.

Tim O'

I thought Mad Men had the most emotionally powerful office suicide that I'd ever see on TV, but I wasn't counting on the 101-mph fastball that is Melrose Place.

Tyler The Destroyer

Well that was surprising 90210 actually made me appreciate the idea of civilized protests lol Whereas Melrose Place made me feel much better about my life rn compared to what’s going on with these fuckers

RonnieSoak

I absolutely love everytime Michael tries to fight someone he immediately gets his ass handed to him. Also, I gotta call bullshit on blaming Dronna entirely on Steve because Mel had like 4-5 Bottles of champagne at his place on different tables and then left them unsupervised. Him saying a "little bit" might be a little bit of an understatement.

Rose Esposito

"Escrow" always makes me think of T.J. on Gilmore Girls, played by Encino Man's Michael DeLuise, repeatedly saying "I'm in esc-a-row!" Real ones know what I mean.

Kate

Such an annoying character

Rose Esposito

lol he was, but he had his quotable moments. "Air Pants! The pants that breathe!"

The #1 reason I will not go in a hot air balloon is because I fear I will be weirdly compelled to jump over the side. I feel seen!! 😂

Busiris

I watched Melrose knowing that it was the last episode for Australian Chris, so my disappointment was IMMEDIATE when I realized what a wet fart of an ending that character got. That man needs a sheet cake dropped on his head, bare minimum.

Francesca Gravatt

I once tried to use ‘Donna Martin Graduates’ as my trivia team name when I was playing solo; the host pronounced it as the noun, not the verb, and I felt a thousand years old because HOW could you not be hip to this cultural moment.

Laura Coleman

Can confirm: class of 93 here: “Donna Martin Graduates” was the chant whenever outrage needed to be expressed.

Mitochondria

Oh thank God, I'm so excited about the double feature of Melros Place for December, because I watched ahead a little bit and CANNOT WAIT to here y'all cover those eps. I have no one to talk to about how unhinged a new character is.

Mitochondria

I always think of that too! I barely remember it. I just know he kept saying it like he didn't know what it meant and neither did I, but he sure loved saying it.

Mitochondria

Right? As soon as Kimberly started cozying up to Jo and casually talking about black market babies, I got so excited.

Alyssa Karklus

Eric’s explanation of escrow is the clearest I’ve ever heard, why is it always made so complicated 😆

Billie Jackson

I almost didn't get to graduate because I accidentally broke the glass front of a snack vending machine trying to get my chips that were stuck. Which feels at least as stupid a reason as Donna's.

Billie Jackson

Am imagining the Wrong Barbecue as an upsetting Don's Party type situation.
