“Any time we’re at a ninja school, my ears perk right up!” - Steve

On this week’s episode, we’re high-kicking off White Guy Karate Month with an episode on the totally fun ninja thriller, The Hunted, starring Christopher Lambert!

How wild is that hot tub scene? Should the contestants on Forged In Fire be drunk while they try and make their katanas? Would anyone wear the boxer shorts Lambert is sporting in this film? How bad ass is Sensei Takeda? And is that bullet train sequence one of the best action scenes of all time? PLUS: Is there any chance we’re seeing any ninja-related injuries on this season of The Pitt?

The Hunted stars Christopher Lambert, John Lone, Joan Chen, Yoshio Harada, Yôko Shimada, Mari Natsuki, Tak Kubota, Toshishiro Obata, Seth Sakai, James Saito, and Masumi “Detective Cheeseburger” Okada; directed by J.F. Lawton.

Never seen it before and I had a pretty good time with this one. I gotta say I haven't looked too hard at the lineup for White Guy Karate month, but I'm hoping to see that Cannon logo slam together to open the credits in at least one of these...

Paul

Ehehehehehe 😄

Busiris

So excited for this one, I first saw the movie during lockdown and loved it. Samurai vs. Ninja are always a winning combo. I agree so much that Yoshio Harada is so cool as Takeda and this really should've been his movie. Cabin will provide plenty of endorsement for visiting Japan but I'll definitely co-sign. Riding a bullet train is such an amazing experience, among many awesome things to do out there. All the jokes about "Detective Cheeseburger" are great because similarly I coined a name for Masumi Okada in this movie - Japanese Charles Bronson (I blame the mustache and me just having seen a bunch of late 80s and 90s Bronson recently lmao).

Matthew Lloyd

Initially i thought this was the Tommy Lee Jones Benicio del Toro movie.

Ray

15 minutes into the movie and the only thing that has happened is Christopher Lambert has laid some pipe. Heh heh heh

Craig

As a Craig, I’m not sure how I feel about Christopher Lambert’s attitude towards Craigs.

Josh

Great opportunity to dust off my Shout Factory blu-ray of this one.

James C Harris

Ninja Train is a movie directed by Sammo Hung with Yuen Baio somewhere in the multiverse

chris pike

Just got a say that Bullet Train was a blast.

Steven Avalos

Its not a Lambert movie if he isnt having sex with a beautiful woman. Shocked there was no nipple sucking though.

Spencer Thomas Kimball

To answer a question that comes up in the ep; "Soaplands" are bathhouse/brothels in Japan. I only know this from playing the Yakuza video game series.

Rose Esposito

Pluto tried to trick me into watching that one by listing it under the 1995 one. Not cool!

Spencer Thomas Kimball

Nevermind, Cabin looked it up like 30 seconds later. 🤦🏻‍♂️

David Thompson

One of those I've stopped around 20 mins in. I've got a £2.49 youtube rental to watch first..

Rhonda Mccomb

I'm probably way more excited than I should be for Bloodsport being this month's WLM! This movie is my cinema comfort food. Can't wait for all the JCVD buns commentary!

Philip Ehlke

Surprisingly glowing review considering this has an 8% on RT. I had a fun time watching last night so I’m right there with the gang. Apparently no amount of hate from critics can keep the white karate man down 🥋

Sergio V. Grajeda

When Andrew said "you just woke up the Baba Yaega". I laughed and spit out my coffee. I can imagined a John Wick turn during the movie.

Like Steve, my father also had a problem with the white guy defeating the ninja master at the end, but for much more racist reasons.

Matt

Was I just extremely tall-glass of watered or when the Detective shows the throwing star after the first attack, is it or is it not just a sketch of a throwing star on a piece of looseleaf paper?

I.C. Weiner

Couple additional things 1. First time I went to Japan those bidets terrified me, but I started to use them and realized how amazing they are. When I took my son 6 months ago, he thought it was amazing how the fancy ones would open their lids and talk to you when you entered the room. 2. Steve's Chuck E Cheese idea is a good one, but their current policy is to not allow adults in without a child, so you are going to have a new service pop up that the President can help with and a whole bunch of degenerate dads

Watch_N_Rewatch

Anybody else almost pee themselves laughing at the hot tub talk?? Lol excellent EP boys and the Lambert impressions never cease to amaze, cheers 🍻

Busiris

Those bidets are a miracle once you get used to them but I'll also never forget the time I used one in Tokyo and could not figure out how to turn the spray off (for whatever reason the buttons weren't working correctly!!)

I.C. Weiner

I've been there and just panic button mash

Adam Lewis

Other podcasts have no honor.

I've read several times recently that Japan has failed to develop a substantial production cost/tax incentive program for foreign movie and television production, so, for example, Thailand attracted the last White Lotus series with one call interrupting the production team's visit to Japan.

Dan sulin

I’d actually like the guys to revisit Gymkata. It’s such a stupid fun movie. Don’t ever revisit Mortal Kombat though, that may be the single greatest episode of this show.

Ray

"air into my mouth" - Eric Szyszka 🤣🤣🤣

Deitrich Tennin

White Guy Karate Month!? Inject that shit right into my veins😤🤣

Chris

I always respect the quick wrap-up ending in an action movie once the final boss is defeated, but this is one instance where I wouldn't have minded an epilogue with Paul having to explain his absence to his boss

Eldritch Hipster

In Florida they have old people ", casinos" where you win gift cards, and the proprietors just buy the gift cards back with cash

James Marron

I can’t stop doing the Lambert accent throughout the day. My wife is currently filing for divorce “But honeyyy what are you talking about that you ‘want to leave me’…heh heh heh heh hehhhh!”

Frank Grimes

I was hoping this was The Hunted from 2003 by William Friedkin. Not a particularly good movie I do like that it was shot on location and takes place in Portland, OR. I like watching all the bad city geography is fun to pick apart. There's a cat and mouse foot chase scene with Benicio del Toro and Tommy Lee Jones across the city where after turning a corner they're magically across the river in a different part of town.
