On our first Once In A Lifetime of the Year, our "White Guy Karate" Month is spilling over onto the show as we chat about the absolutely ridiculous self-defense-related thriller, Fatal Defense!

Shouldn't this protagonist have just walked right out of the dojo the second this "instructor" started manhandling her in the lobby? How iron clad was this bulletproof contract this woman signed? How many stalkers can one person have at a time? Is this home invader ever picking up that acoustic guitar? Is this cop sister passing out with a bottle of wine every night? And why on earth didn't the cold-on-the-trail detective just take a quick peek inside that serial killer trailer?

Fatal Defense stars Ashley Scott, David Cade, Sophie Guest, Laurie Fortier, David Paladino, Marshall Duncan, and Sherilyn Fenn as Inspector Banks; directed by John Murlowski.

We hope you are enjoying Once In A Lifetime, our bi-monthly (every-other month) WHM podcast where we watch some outrageous Lifetime (and Lifetime-adjacent) movies and attempts to sift through the madness within! Thanks so much for supporting We Hate Movies on Patreon! We know you have a lot of podcast-related listening options and we're grateful you chose to spend some time with us. These are especially funny to me because my mom adores Lifetime and Hallmark movies. It's a problem.

Sadly this was never mentioned in Wolf of Wall Street, but Secret Agent Club is one of two Hulk Hogan movies that Jordan Bellfort produced along with Santa with Muscles

David Thompson

Watched it on YouTube at work like a model employee

it's kind of hilarious that this came out BEFORE "The art of Self Defense". Wonder if the people who made that saw this and decided to gender swap it.

So my head theory while watching Was that the guy who broke into her house at the beginning was partners with the dojo Owner and that they had a business where one guy would mock break into their house And all the women would get so scared that they would have to go to self-defense Thus profitable self-defense school When we get to his Hills Have Eyes trailer and we see his psychotic poster board of her that theory get shot to shit But wouldn’t that have been a pretty good insane lifetime movie?

What I'm learning from Steve is that I need to have kids so I know I'll have someone to cover me in the event of an armed altercation on the side of the road.

Anytime I see Sherilyn Fenn I'm happy. She knows this is a shit movie, like Wish Upon, and I can almost feel her mocking the script when delivering the lines. She's got an all-time hall pass from me

Ray

This movie has A Talking Cat levels of cinematography and montages.

Re: Walking Tall -- I feel it's important to note that, like Cliff Booth, that dude fucking killed his wife. Which is probably why Sorbo wanted to take over the role!

Odin Blaine

This movie was such an incredible experience. Watched it high last night and was laughing non stop

I think the line about "hot tea reaching over 200 degrees" is supposed to relate to the drunk father story. Eventually the cop lady got big enough to throw hot tea at him I guess.

Brandon Taper

Man, this movie felt like ninety minutes of John Goodman from The Big Lebowski yelling "They're gonna kill that poor woman!"

Billie Jackson

A good driving around chloroform rag. Especially long traffic lights, jury duty without a book along to read, got somewhere way too early and want to get some sleep in the car? Consider self chloroforming.

Usually styled as Helena Wayne rather than Kyle, she was a DC Earth 2 character back in the day, like Power Girl, Jade, Obsidian, Atom Smasher, etc. She reappeared on DC Earth 1 in a JSA series a few years ago. The Birds of Prey TV show characters appeared v briefly in the CW Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover, as does the Superman Returns Superman, Burt Ward briefly and Kevin Conroy as a retired Batman.

Scalding tea in the face like Lee Marvin in Fritz Lang's The Big Heat with the coffee.
