On our first commentary of 2026, we're talking over the super-fun 1989 JCVD action classic, Kickboxer!

How hilarious is that torture rack scene during the training montage? Is getting wasted at bars and staying out 'til all hours at sex clubs the best way to train for a Muay Thai championship fight? Did that older brother even know where Thailand was before they landed? Should JCVD's character have been taking pictures of those kids? Does Pepsi turn you into a better fighter? And couldn't JCVD have played Pontius Pilate in something?

Kickboxer stars Jean-Claude Van Damme, Dennis Alexio, Dennis Chan, Haskell V. Anderson III, Rochelle Ashana, Ka-Ting Lee, and Michel Qissi as Tong Po; directed by Mark DiSalle & David Worth.

As always, we encourage you to watch along with us to enhance your experience with the commentary track, but it's cool if you just listen. If you do want to watch along with us, we start watching the movie at the 00:04:11 mark of this audio track, and we start the film at the 00:00:05 mark of the video, with the Lionsgate logo just appearing on-screen (We go into greater detail on the commentary about how to sync up.)

Thanks for being the totally rad Patreon supporter that you are! We know you have a lot of options when you're watching stuff, and we're stoked you decided to sync up with us for this movie!Cover art by Felipe Sobreiro.

That’s right

Yes yes yes! Watched some of this yesterday in preparation and, ... holy shit, this is some kinda movie. The -mentaries are my favorite things you guys do, thanks as ever. Keep kicking ass, stay safe out there, death to all fascists.

Dan Hillen

Realized I could play this commentary and watch the movie via TUBI app simultaneously. Great way to start my Friday!

Jason

Get that Patreon tier started WHM so we can invest in that Broadway Revival of Jesus Christ Superstar with JCVD as Pilate!

Nena Aguilar

I saw this for the first time in a really long time back in November, and I’m so excited you guys pulled it for a commentary!🥰 I still need to watch Replicant before I listen. One of the JCVD movies I haven’t seen. Love you guys!! 💕

Local Man Loses Pants, Life (LMLPL)

Cool, "Kickboxer" is currently available ad-free on Prime Video...( I think?) that's good news... I've given up on listening to sync'ed commentaries for movies with commercials...what a PITA to sync!

Paul

Borrowed the JCDVD from the library. 💳📚👍🏻

Merrite Johnson

instant classic in the pantheon of WHM commentaries imo

Elliott Tipton

The couple in the background during the shirt bar scene spike the camera 2 each. Amazing job guys

Paul

Have you guys ever considered doing a live commentary on stage? I think it would make a great live show. I wonder if Rifftrax is the only one that can do live on-stage commentaries?

Ray

It's like a holiday every time you all drop a commentary track

Craig

I went to an actual kickboxing tournament in Bangkok once and it was brutal. I think I saw 4 knockouts in 10 matches.

Eren Keskin

It's crazy the amount of abuse women go through in this movie.

RJ Cunningham

Unfortunately for Steve, a warlord threatening to commit suicide at the first sign of trouble shows great weakness to his men

Rose Esposito

"He looks like he's about to go talk shit to Pontius Pilate."

Robert McNamee

Anyone else have trouble with the sync? Had to pause the movie multiple times to let the guys catch up. If I’d let them both play through I’d say the guys would’ve been at least a minute behind the movie.

Those Kickboxer sequels are definitely worth a watch. Oh no, they're definitely not *good* movies, but they are fascinating trash. As mentioned in the commentary, Sasha Mitchell takes up the lead for parts 2, 3, and 4 and then in part 5, we get Mark Dacascos as the lead, where they (spoiler alert) mention in a newspaper article that Sasha Mitchell's character was killed - meaning that all three Sloan brothers were murdered by the time the series wrapped up, lmao.

mscoash .

This got me to watch kickboxer again. I never realized how bad some of the fake backgrounds looked. Mortal Kombat looked better.

Stevie StudPup

You all would be so proud of my Van Damme dvd collection 💪

Matthew Kennedy

Just the mention of spicy ketchup gets my tum-tum rumbling. Another banger Commentary!

Frank Grimes

This was my first time through Kickboxer as well and I’m glad it was having a hang with you guys.

Frank Grimes

Quick side note, why does it say “Goodbye to Bugs” at the end of the credits? Was that the name of the dog who got stabbed?

Winson Paine

Just a note some of these Van Damme impersonations are drifting reeeeeal close to Triumph the Insult Comic Dog

Mark D Myers

I'm more of a adon man myself.
