“Always love a scroll…” - Steve on the film’s opening text

On this week’s episode, Listener Request Month takes us to Direct-to-DVD-Sequel Land as we’re tasked with watching and chatting about a horror sequel absolutely no one was asking for, White Noise 2: The Light!

With Firefly’s Nathan Fillion and Battlestar Galactica’s Katie Sackhoff leading this cast, is this movie like the SyFy Channel prom, where all your science fiction adventurers are getting together? How in the world does Dennis’s Diner stay in business after this opening incident? How hilarious is that Looney Tunes piano death? And are there really that many near-death experiences (NDEs) per day in this country? PLUS: A brief history of the Direct-to-DVD sequel craze of the aughts!

White Noise 2: The Light stars Nathan Fillion, Katie Sackhoff, Adrian Holmes, Kendall Cross, Teryl Rothery, William MacDonald, Josh Ballard, and Craig Fairbrass as Henry Caine; directed by Patrick Lussier.

White Noise 1 remains in the top 5 least favorite theater experiences. Funny you guys mention Aftermath, it is deliciously terrible. It’s like 15% AI in the opening sequence for some reason, and has some terribly confident acting for the Nazi patriot group played by a rather diverse cast. And the bridge actually isn’t “thaaat” bad of setting believe it or not. Wildly bad movie

Those not in the know, Firefly is coming back as an animated show. Set between the show and the movie(since the movie has a bit of a body count). Whedon has “blessed it” but is not involved directly. Baldwin will be returning, he’s trash IRL but he is also trash on the show so it works. As a dedicated “Brown coat” I’m excited to see what they do. I’ll be putting Serenity into the WLM requests for listener request month next year. I know some of you folks enjoyed Buffy in the day and Firefly is a Whedon joint with all the style and baggage that brings but the cast really elevates it.

Hoping Resurrection of the Christ is a one crazy night movie like After Hours, if the two parts cover a single day.

Matt

little known Canadian fact, but Rush is actually considered a form of legal tender up here. I paid for a denim jacket with a copy of 2112 last week

I thought the doctor was John Travolta for a sec when his shiny bald head entered the frame :(

“Oh it doesn’t know” had me cackling in the airport, hope I don’t get disappeared by the rental ICE here

The first white noise episode was one of the first episodes of WHM that I heard because that was the year. I discovered the podcast. It’s really wild because I’m listening to it to immediately jump into this one The gang has been in my life longer and even my job I was basically living out of a van during that time Working three different jobs at once Went from that to a two bedroom apartment and an actual career and a diploma Can’t wait to see the difference 11 years makes between two different episodes of the pod

Busiris

Nobody should sleep on those old episodes, the one for the first White Noise is an all-timer. The story Steve tells about an old couple he encountered on the street (I think about 17-18 minutes into the episodes) is one of the best things ever.

This wasn't straight to DVD everywhere. I paid money to see it in the cinema here in the UK as I'll watch anything with Nathan Fillion. I remember liking it but have never seen it since.

Dawn Elicia

Please please do Drive Angry. Went to the theater with my mom and bestie. At first we thought we we wanted to see this. Then it got crazy and we had fun.

Buddhism asserts that there's no difference between a human and a dog, so if Eric were a Buddhist he gets to see all the dog souls he wants, if he chooses to believe in souls

Tim O'

It would make a perfect commentary episode!

KRA

BUDDY, I have a note in my phone timestamping some of my favorite WHM bits, and Steve's old couple fart story in White Noise (22min in) was definitely one of them. I truly feel part of a community here 😌

Busiris

Heck yeah, that rules (and it's a pretty smart idea I should try out, actually...)

KRA

Sometimes you just need to queue up to min21 of Ep259 to hear the guys do John Wayne as a Klingon

Rico Smith

This might be Eric’s all time best episode! Dude was absolutely on fire.

Convincing John

Loving this ep. Was not expecting White Noise 2: THE LIGHT of all things to rip off SCHINDLER'S LIST lolololololsob

Brandon Taper

"She looked like Demi LESS!" really got me. Especially with the quick "Lovely woman" follow-up.

Are we to make anything of the names of the two doomed "savers" being Henry CAINE and ABE Dale?
