On the latest episode of our Lifetime Movie chat show, Remake-ril comes to town as we chat about the Rob Lowe directorial effort, The Bad Seed!

Adapted from the same 1954 William March novel as the stage play and two prior filmed versions—Mervyn LeRoy's 1956 feature film and the 1985 Paul Wendkos television movie—this is one of the most ridiculous Lifetime pictures we've ever covered. Why is this little girl dressed up like Barbara Bush for a 2018 school ceremony? How are Rob Lowe and Cara Buono supposed to be brother and sister with those battling accents? Why can't we show that hilarious car accident moment? And why did this movie need a second, adult-aged Bad Seed character as a foil for our titular Bad Seed? PLUS: Does anyone remember those Rob Lowe Atkins diet commercials?

The Bad Seed stars Mckenna Grace, Sarah Dugdale, Marci T. House, Cara Buono, Patty McCormack, Luke Roessler, Shauna Johannesen, and Rob Lowe as David; directed by Rob Lowe.

We hope you are enjoying Once In A Lifetime, our bi-monthly (every-other month) WHM podcast where we watch some outrageous Lifetime (and Lifetime-adjacent) movies and attempts to sift through the madness within! Thanks so much for supporting We Hate Movies on Patreon! We know you have a lot of podcast-related listening options and we're grateful you chose to spend some time with us. It's nature Mil-Oh Nooo!!!

On the subject of Bugsy Malone, and whether Christopher Nolan has watched it, in the UK it was on TV a hell of a lot when I was a kid in the 80s and 90s, so it wouldn't surprise me at all if he has seen it.

Eren Keskin

This kid would be a great Wednesday

Yes, Nick Cave has turned into a bit of a conservative shithead in his old age.

J.T.

I think Nick Cave used to be angry/horny sad, then just horny for a few albums, and now he's just sad.

Matthew Taylor

Fantastic pull on the Atkins commercial because I hadn’t thought about it in years but I can immediate recognize his take on ‘chocolate’

Two episodes this week, and we got Loomis impressions in both of them (which is one of my favorite recurring bits), so I'm a happy guy over here. Also, weirdly enough I was listening to recently posted to youtube ep 'Link' for a bit the other day, and funny enough, Andrew's evil kid pissing in the chili story appears there as well 😅

Gladys will be fun. Why the hate?

Have not seen the sequel yet but oh yeah, I was definitely thinking The Bad Seed Returns sounds like an October OiaL select for sure. I saw that Mckenna Grace has a writing and story credit on that one. And it looks like sadly Cara Buono was recast for it.

Mike Kling

May I recommend the Rob Lowe Drew Peterson movie hilarious

I'm a huge fan of Nick Cave so Chris Cabin's impression him always makes me laugh.

Erin Hardy

He's untouchable, bitch!

The 50s "Bad Seed" is one of my favorites. This version manages to be less scary despite the original not visually depicting any of the violence. The way the Chloe analogue dies in the original is BONE-CHILLING. This was okay enough, but it needed way more camp.

I've still never seen it and need to correct that! - Andrew

Late to this ep, but YES, the train tracks!! First I chuckled to myself that they just had to leave in the train speeding by because it's a cheap Lifetime movie, but then I thought, duh, of course the babysitter or someone is getting Anna Karenina'd. But then NOPE! Absolutely nothing, because why would anything make sense 🫠 god I love this trash

Matthew Lazorwitz

I just don't get why we didn't see Milo fall or Emma get the hornet's nest down. It almost felt like whoever wrote it or Rob Lowe or someone was trying to lay some doubt that maybe she didn't do it; Milo was an accident and maybe Chloe killed the teacher to frame her. It's The Bad Seed! Show me those kills!

I'll disagree with Cabin about Rob Lowe's. The first 2 seasons of West Wing are best when they give Sam Seaborne stuff to work with. Education is the s7lverbulley" is Lowe at his finest
