On this edition of our Star Trek recap show, The Nexus, we're back on schedule, chatting about the season two premiere of TOSTAS, as well as a really great ep of TNG!

First up on TOSTAS, yes, we're talking about the season two premiere, "The Pirates of Orion"! Originally airing on September 7, 1974, this episode features the Enterprise in crisis as Spock is stricken with a nearly incurable disease! We've also got McCoy being his usual cantankerous self (racist toward Vulcans), Shatner pronouncing "sabotage" hilariously, and these Orion pirates looking to go to Hell tonight!

Then across the Neutral Zone on TNG, we're chatting about the fantastic season five episode, "Ensign Ro." Originally airing on October 7, 1991, this episode introduces that kick-ass Michelle Forbes character, Ensign Ro Laren! We've also got an obnoxious appearance by Mott the Barber, a fantastic Guinan appearance, another crooked Starfleet admiral, and the first mention of the Cardassian/Bajoran conflict.

The Nexus is a WHM podcast where the guys futilely go through two Star Trek series at the same time. Thank you so much for continuing to support our family of shows—we couldn't do it without you! We know you have lots of options for pods and we're super-stoked you chose to spend some time with us—thanks again!

Ro on DS9 would have been interesting, but rewatching it in recent years I really appreciate Kira more as a great character (as the Duet episode demonstrated)

Jason

Ensign Ro-Ro-mantic.

I’ve tried the DoorDash “Double Dash” a couple of times where they were like “hey your food is being prepared, you have 14 minutes to have your dasher pick up some bullshit from 7-Eleven or whatever” and every time I’ve tried it, they just send a second person to pick up and deliver the items from a second location.

Andrew needs to watch Kalifornia and Steve has to watch Silent Running. “Better do your homework, boys. I want to see those Letterboxd reviews soon.” -Picard

Michelle Forbes was also the wrongfully fired medical examiner Julianna Cox on Homicide!

WarOfTheBees

Michelle Forbes is also George's girlfriend who gives Elaine the big salad in the Seinfeld episode called...The Big Salad

We Hate Movies

"You don't want to come with me and Mother to the Guggenheeeeeeeeeim?"

Winson Paine

Having Kira be a complete Starfleet outsider was kinda key to the dynamic of the whole show

The Gang is coming to STLV?! I’m floored! We’ll see you there!

Craig

Yeah but as a kid I was annoyed that she would argue with Sisko! Too young to understand the character.

Convincing John

that's kind of good to know, because i hated the idea of saddling Jim with another errand

Hearing "Tuvok goes into Pon Farr and then Paris goes to him and..." and was very sad that the end of the sentence was "...tells him to bone his wife on the holodeck." Especially when the power goes out. COME ON, TOM. GIVE YOUR BUDDY A HAND.

After listening last night I decided to watch Silent Running for the first time after you mentioned it in the ep. Maybe you guys should do an ep on that one. Sounds like a movie that 4 simpletons could watch together...

Billie Jackson

There's a recent comic series that has Worf leading a team with Ro, Lore and iirc Spock on it. It's a spinoff of a series with post ds9 finale Sisko, Data and Crusher which is actually pretty enjoyable, possibly surprisingly.

Billie Jackson

if nothing else then for a slashfic return on The Nexus

ShaunTrek

It was recently confirmed on Lower Decks that the "Or-E-ons" are a subsect of the Orions. They did a short story arc about it in S4.
