It's our next adventure through the world of Star Trek on The Nexus!

First up on TOSTAS, it's the hilarious episode, "Bem." Originally airing September 14, 1974, this episode features the funniest Kirk has ever been as he gets increasingly more frustrated with our titular alien friend, a creature that can take apart pieces of his body like a Crash Test Dummy! It also has a giant god being voiced by Nichelle Nichols, a bunch of weird and gray lizard people, along with precisely zero lines for Bones or Sulu this month because it's all so cheap!

Then, across the Alpha Quadrant on TNG, it's the pretty kick-ass episode, "Silicon Avatar." Premiering back on October 12, 1991, this episode sees the return of the Crystalline Entity, a space being our Enterprise friends first encountered when we met Data's crooked brother, Lore in the season one episode, "Datalore." We've also got an old crone scientist who hates Data and wants to kill the Crystalline Entity, Riker watching his latest lady friend get completely wiped off the face of the planet by the Entity's power light, Data sexily playing classical acoustic guitar, and this scientist asking Data to speak in the voice of her dead son!

Come hang out in Vegas with us this summer as we do a three-night stand at ST:LV to celebrate 60 years of Star Trek and 10 years of The Nexus! We’ll be at the convention Thursday, Friday and Saturday night doing three Nexus shows on Wrath of Kahn, Generations, and First Contact! Best part is, you don’t need to have a convention pass to attend, each show is ticketed separately. Click through to snag your tix now!

The Nexus is a WHM podcast where the guys futilely go through two Star Trek series at the same time. Thank you so much for continuing to support our family of shows—we couldn't do it without you! We know you have lots of options for pods and we're super-stoked you chose to spend some time with us—thanks again!

“Bem, the two of us need look no more We both found what we were looking for With a friend to call my own I'll never be alone And you, my friend will see You've got a friend in me (you've got a friend in me)…” Classic song, Jim Boy. -Bones

Eric was zapped by the Crystaline Entity on the way to the recording. 😔

I've never watched an episode of Trek but I love hearing you guys talk about it! Can't help but picture Patrick Stewart's American Dad character whenever y'all impersonate Picard.

"Eating crap with This One, if he died tomorrow no one would shed a tear"

Ben Sharpe

I never saw this TOSTA episode. It sounds like Bem would be a good character for Star Trek Lower Decks or even Strange New Worlds. I can picture Picard being really annoyed with Bem, however Data would find him fascinating and try to help Bem act more human

Felipe Sobreiro

They do bring back an alien from the same race as Bem in Lower Decks! Detachable limbs and all.

Winson Paine

Lower Decks loves TAS and brought back a Bem lady who was an efficiency expert who caused trouble for our crew for a couple eps!

Ben Sharpe

I thought this TNG episode was the one where Data discovers a woman who claims to be his mother, and then later it turns out that she is an android.

Really funny ep, but I thought it missed Eric a bit just because I think he would've brought it to a really gross place with the Scientist lady having Data talk like her son. 😅

Ben Sharpe

Id love to hear Eric's comments about Bem. Bem!!!!!! ( voice of Harrison Ford)
