This month's Animation Damnation has us covering a totally coked-out episode of Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends! (Was there ever any other kind of episode?)

The episode in question, "Spidey Goes Hollywood," originally aired back on November 7, 1981 and features Mysterio (in his actual comic form and not some wronged Stark Industries employee) trying to lure Spider-Man into the sticky web known as Hollywood! This episode has everything, including Spider-Man wearing a director's hat, Aunt May having money trouble yet again, the Hulk destroying the military at some checkpoint, Mysterio trying to produce and distribute a snuff film, and so much more! PLUS: Much talk about a "lost" episode featuring The Red Skull teaming up with Hitler or some such.

Thanks so much for being so awesome and supporting Animation Damnation on Patreon! Please be sure to spread the word! Your support is what keeps this operation going! We know you have a number of choices for pods and we appreciate you spending some time with us!Original cover art by Felipe Sobreiro.

viva la Spider man - the Marvel universe only hope

Max von Sydow should have portrayed Friedrich von Brazzers in Boogie Nights.

James C Harris

This was appointment TV on Saturday morning. The shit I had to watch to get to Spidey was torture! And that Red Skull episode is batshit insane abd features a character named Hiawatha Smith! Also, Grimace was monster who loved shakes

My Mom still buys 2 cartons of Salem 100s a month

SPIDEY SAY RELAX

Dave Waters

This was my favorite show as a kid. We got it on Sunday mornings and it was paired up with the animated Hulk spin-off. I watched this shit like it was my job. BTW Birdie the Early Bird was McDonald's breakfast character. Gotta push those Hash Browns. I miss fun McDonald's with characters and lore. Now they are just blah gray rectangles.

Jack B. Baker

I also watched this Saturday mornings. Firestar was right up there with Daphne from Scooby Doo.

Tim O'

Does she talk like Cigaretta from the War of the Worlds episode?

Mark D Myers

Last time I saw firestar she was checking into rehab in a issue of west coast avengers.

MarkNM

Their playlands used to be like a shroom trip, with Fry monster seesaws, and Giant Hamburger Jails.

Darcy MacDonald

Pretty sure Grimace is a butt plug. I think this was my first Spidey cartoon, loved it. Way, way later in life, I wondered if it was just something I dreamt.

Darcy MacDonald

Loving this Aunt May-verse timeline where she's a pill-popping lush, btw

Dave Waters

I miss that!!! We would beg our parents to take us.

Dave Waters

We never questioned why Peter Parker had an elderly aunt. Were his parents in their 50s or 60s when they had him? Seems so weird now.

Ben Sharpe

I cant wait to see Sam Blockbuster in Avengers Doomsday and Secret Wars

Ben Sharpe

Too bad they didnt have Bryan Brown and Brian Dennehy characters from FX movie to help Spidey and his friends fight Mysterio and Sam Blockbuster

Ben Sharpe

Scotty from Star Trek and Hulk are the same person

Billie Jackson

She was in at least the latter part of the X-Men Krakoa era, working on the inside of the Orchis anti mutant human and Sentinel group, as a double agent. Kitty Pryde, being unaware of her true status, nearly killed her for betraying them. So she's been around fairly recently.

Billie Jackson

There was an issue of Marvel's Super-Villain Team-Up that starred Red Skull, Arnim Zola and the Hate Monger (A Hitler clone). Issue #17. But I don't think Amazing Friends was adapting that. There's still the Swarm (Nazi scientist made of bees) episode of this tv series, which is on D+.

Carlos Ramirez

Not to advertise for another podcast BUT Podcast The Ride is doing an entire month on McDonalds IP, they talked about the McDonald Land Gang and Mac Tonight. I swear as the WHM gang were asking about the Grimace I was yelling about Grimace being a shake being lol, THIS EPISODE ROCKED

Dave Waters

Thanks man. I also remember Burger King attempting their own cast of characters in the 80s (Sir Shake a lot, the Duke of Doubt, Fry Guy) but it didn't last long.

MarkNM

Jack in the Box also had a weird late 70s early 80s cast of kids dealers.
