Recorded Live in Oxford, England, 20 July, 2025“He gets the crown put on his head, the Hobbits are there, it’s an amazing time” - Eric on Ralph’s Coronation

On our first Summer Live episode of the season, we’re releasing our outrageous live show from closing night of last year’s residency at the Oxford Comedy Festival!

This show was an incredible end to a super-fun run of six shows we had at the festival and wowza, King Ralph is certainly something, isn’t it? Is this moment-of-death photograph that starts the film technically a snuff pic? Aren’t they asking way too much of this bumbling buffoon for only being King a couple weeks? How much cash did Burger King sink into this cinematic misadventure? And is there a single scene here with a sober Peter O’Toole? PLUS: One of King Ralph’s first decrees: invade Jug Nation!

King Ralph stars John Goodman, John Hurt, Camille Coduri, Richard Griffiths, Leslie Phillips, James Villiers, Joely Richardson, Julian Glover, Rudolph Walker, and Peter O’Toole as Sir Cedric Willingham; directed by David S. Ward.

Come hang out in Vegas with us THIS WEEKEND (August 6-8) as we do a three-night stand at ST:LV to celebrate 60 years of Star Trek and 10 years of The Nexus! We’ll be at the convention Thursday, Friday and Saturday night doing three Nexus shows on Wrath of Kahn, Generations, and First Contact! Best part is, you don’t need to have a convention pass to attend, each show is ticketed separately. Click through to snag your tix now!We hope you are enjoying AD-FREE WHM! Thanks so much for being the kick-ass Patreon subscriber that you are. Super excited to listen to this later this morning. I've seriously been waiting years for you guys to do this one. This movie is dumb as hell, but I still love it. It's like comfort food. I think this is one of those movies where all the actors understood the assignment: this movie is ridiculous, so just roll with it.

You joke that idea of the British royal family on Wipeout is ridiculous except it happened for real. The game show was called It's A Knockout which was Wipeout in the 80s and they did a Royal family special with bone fide princess and princesses of England playing Wipeout style games on tv.

WarOfTheBees

Well, now I know what I'm looking for on YouTube tonight

King Ralph is TBS Saturday afternoon in the middle of summer vacation programming at its finest.

John Locke

It's been too long since I watched this film although I do remember absolutely loving it.

Chicago resident here. While you can mix sports teams in your wardrobe, you can’t mix any Chicago team with Packers merch. That’s like wearing a cross on top of your “Hail Satan” T-shirt.

Peter O'toole truly embodied the principle of not giving a fuck. His Letterman appearances were something else

Two things: - Anyone else notice that Steve’s impression of Peter O’Toole is eerily similar to his excellent impression of Dr Loomis from the Halloween movies? SIX TIMES, SHERIFF!!!! - How dare you besmirch the good name of the Wipeout concept! Spike TV producing the Most Extreme Elimination Challenge (MXC) in the 00s provided many hours of entertainment to me and my friends in college. For those unfamiliar (aka younger than 35😬), MXC took footage from an actual Japanese game show and hilariously dubbed it. The US version of Wipeout literally stole the concept of the game, down to identical challenges for the contestants, and it’s a lot less funny because there’s no dubbing.

Being knighted by King Ralph is kind of like the bubble ring for the OBE.

Also, there is a local chain called Bob's Burgers (yes, I know,) that makes green chile taco burgers, they're fuckin' great.

James

Surprised that my local library had this in stock. Problem is now the staff probably questions my taste in movies.

Rose Esposito

I was quite startled by the crazy-looking strip club security dude and immediately wondered how the guys would address it, and "Russell Brand with the Bane serum" did not disappoint.

Busiris

Since it's frequently used as an excuse for some listeners to skip live shows, I'll just point out right here that I think the audio quality is totally great. 👌

NFlux Forever

Well, "hilarious" in quotations.

RonnieSoak

There has to be an abandoned version of the script where King Ralph had to deal with that demon possessing the Finnish princess.

profondo robbo

I was surprised there weren't any such jokes about the paparazzi guy. He looked like a blend of Dennis Miller and Tim Burton.

Erin Hardy

I have a clear memory of this movie airing on network TV the night before my first day of 4th grade and all of us talking about it the next day (and mimicking the "I cahn't do this" burlesque scene specifically).

Matt

Up next "Summer Rental"!

Odin Blaine

This makes me wanna see you dudes live so bad sounds like a fun time. Can’t wait til y’all come to L.A!

I'm originally from Chicago (moved as a kid) and had an uncle who was a Packers fan to go against the grain. I think he might've been fine with the Cubs? To be fair, I don't think he was a baseball guy at all. - Eric
