“I do have to imagine life with good, old Dan Challis… was a nightmare.” - Chris

On this week’s episode, we’re heading back to Santa Mira to chat about a cult classic par excellence, one of the most misunderstood, under-watched horror sequels of all time, Halloween III: Season of the Witch!

Is the public opinion on this movie one of the biggest 180s in horror history? How incredible is Tom Atkins, and his mustache, in this? Why would you bring sexy lingerie on a trip to uncover why your father was murdered? How about that wild-ass score by John Carpenter and Alan Howarth? Why are all the murder-bots set to ‘pulverize’ mode? Does Dr. Challis have a Bond/Moneypenny thing with this coroner character? And how great is Dan O’Herlihy as the villainous Conal Cochran? PLUS: The Devil gets cancelled!

Halloween III: Season of the Witch stars Tom Atkins, Stacey Nelson, Michael Currie, Ralph Strait, Jade Barber, Brad Schacter, Gary Stephens, Nancy Kyes, Al Berry, and Dan O’Herlihy as Conal Cochran; directed by Tommy Lee Wallace.

Love that the Amazon description says "A doctor uncovers a Halloween scheme." That's it.

Jessica M

When I hear that Spooktacular theme kick in for the first time each year, my heart skips a beat. I'm so happy right now.

Rachel Morgan

Drinking and driving isn’t fucking funny

Busiris

I'm also a Halloween fan that needed time to grow. My mom was the one who introduced me to the whole series when I was a little kid. Since that was still the era where it wasn't a reclaimed cult favorite, my mom was always of the mind that this is "the bad one" of the series, so I kept that mindset with me for a long time. Thankful that it grew on me so much more over the years. I got to see it in theaters in 2021, so that definitely helped.

Nuña Bisness

Great timing, just listened to the episode on The Guest where you brought up you were doing a redux on this.

Aleen Tins

Happy happy halloween silver shamrock!

Tim O'

Technically, that's also the plot of the first Halloween movie.

Patrick caddy

Why isnt this the "Season of Szyzska "🤔

Jaime Lee Ezell

That cameo is my favorite of all of them so far!!! Fantastic

Rose Esposito

I absolutely thought the same thing as Steve for a split second 😂

johnny stocker

I had a vague memory of this movie rolling around in my head, and in my memory Atkins was playing some sort of hard boiled PI in this. Casting him as a doctor was definitely quite the choice.

RJ Cunningham

Over the course of 15 years Dr Dan Challis went from embarrassing, drunken, sloppy, and irresponsible to cool, in shape, responsible in how he meters out his drinks, and well-dressed/handsome

Matt

Oh my god this cameo is insane. I love it SO much.

Rob Brown

I met the man at a screening in Pittsburgh in 2019!

Tru$tn01

You're right! To be more clear, maybe they change it to, "A doctor uncovers a Halloween scheme, sucks on a tit, slams a 6 pack, and makes an impossible mask toss onto a security camera."

Rose Esposito

I rewatched this over the weekend, and when Cochran's talking about making the robots super realistic, my high ass was like 'oh yeah, they get everything right except the hearts, and the hearts crystallize...wait, nope, that's Lanterns.' 🥴

Vōclō

I often throw on the new episode as I’m going to bed on Mondays. BUT, during Spooktacular Season™️, I have to set my phone timer to end the episode 2 minutes before the runtime, because if I fall asleep and then the theme hits, I’ll immediately wake up all freaked out. 😂

Eren Keskin

Atkins shows up, fucks anything that moves, leaves.

Lar

Omg I’m so happy with how tickled y’all were with the cameo. Honestly your guys’ impression isn’t that far off from him!

Lar

I was worried we wouldn’t get the theme this episode bc it isn’t the spooktacular yet but thank goodness they know what we want.

Smaug

The Spooktacular is always my least favorite part of the year (except the summer break when there's no new WHM) in the sense that I don't care for any of the movies, but the eps always have some great bits! The origin of the booty call is pure gold

Tom Atkins is slamming ass all over this movie.

Billie Jackson

Tom Atkins just feels like someone who is really good at playing blue collar roles. Like he should be the Tom Cruise character from War of the Worlds rather than a doctor. Which somehow makes me love his turn in this all the more.

Billie Jackson

Now that's a fun Friday night! Aside from the mass child death, of course. Atkins being covered in paper mache, stolen by giallo robot Cheech and Chong and everything ending in whatever the California equivalent of Coney Island would be (Santa Monica pier?) while the killer masks activate and I Love LA plays would make this a quality One Crazy Night movie.

Billie Jackson

George Romero's original vision for Season of Szyzska was sadly compromised, resulting in a far different film.

Billie Jackson

Literally everything. A real Howard Chaykin "Satisfaction of Black Mariah" situation.

jribs

Jesus this is one of the best cameos and they are all the best ever. Joey Pants needs a new porch!

Billie Jackson

What I wouldn't give for a Camp Miasma segment of an onscreen. Still hasn't hit theaters in Nebraska. There's a (granted very belated) screening of Castration Movie ii here (just in time for iii to release elsewhere), but no TSaDaCM.

Nathan Foley

Throwback to when I got back into mixtaping and the original Halloween III episode inspired the best one of the bunch.

Patrick caddy

What is now the nipple sucking scene. Originally, was full ass eating with prop tongue made by Savini

2026-09-17 15:00 Thomas Calabro seems like the effing man, that was the most normal human of all the cameos thus far. Then again those very same words were said by each and everyone of Michael Mancini’s victims, especially the cameo part

I’ve said it before but if I was a supernaturally themed wrestler the Spooktacular theme would be my entrance music. Also it appears Andrew and I have similar tastes in HBO docuseries. Now I’m curious to know if he watched The Anarchists and Born to Bowl.

Billie Jackson

He was already on set reprising his Disco Boy character from Lustig's Maniac. Somehow.

Winson Paine

This movie has a special place in my heart because it is probably the first horror movie ever watched, it is between this and Motel Hell (it takes all kinds of critters to make farmer vincents fritters) both of which were in heavy rotation on the movie channel or showtime or whatever we had that my poorly supervised ass could watch

Daniel Garcia

I had to go to the wiki and see the original ep was the same season as my favorite all timer Rocky IV. Damn now I have to go hunt for that original ep to add to my collection.

Todd B

This episode led to my wife and I rewatching this last night for the first time in a long while. You brought this up both times, and with good reason - once you notice that firefighter extra and his floppy, floppy hat, it becomes hard to focus on anything else in the scene.

Dr. Albert Beck

I still listen to the OG episode every Halloween since it was a listener request.

Matt

"Erin Go Bras" is one of the finest jokes I've ever heard. Worthy of a golden age Simpsons gag. Bravo.

Jaden Spohrer

Just wanted to say that I’m listening to the episode on the Commuter and Steve nails a prediction that Liam neeson would be a good pick for a Naked Gun reboot

Deano Rezzz

“I think this is the last time we’ll take about this movie” - Steve Sejdak, 18 August, the year of our lord 2016. You done messed up Sejdak. Didn’t count on Andrew winning the VHS trailer game…

Russell Snyder

I had so much fun with this, I followed it up with the original off the summer rerun and I was like, why is this show being hosted by little kids? My god. Time is a harsh mistress if we sound this old now.

jribs

I’m vamping!

Rod

Love all the discussion about the score. Got to see this on 35mm with Alan Howath adding live music. Followed by Q&A with the cast. The “Who cares,” also brought down the house.

chris pike

I’ve always hated this movie so much and it just kills me that the boys dig it.

KC Masterpiece

Every Halloween I revisit the first episode they did on this movie, and I’m beyond happy to hear more!

Chaz Keracher

IMNSHO the protagonist of this flick being a lowkey sleaze ball is a feature not a bug.

Chris

I watched Halloween 3 and Night of the Creeps this week. They make a great double feature. Tom Atkins plays an alcoholic in both, but Night of the Creeps also has Rusty from European Vacation.

Kureigu

I actually listened to the original version this year Andrew. Still never seen the movie though lol

Dennis Stack

My only blindspot in this franchise and now it is no longer. Thank you fellas for giving me a reason to finally check this one out and I enjoyed it much more than I expected

Jan

I have seen this movie’s first couple of minits for way too many times & every time God tells me (voice nr 4) to shut it off

Joe Gilligan

Been with you guys since the original Phantom Menace episode, bought all your products and have loved(maybe too strong of word) every minute. Im hoping against hope that one of these days you will cover the original Dawn of the Dead or the original Night of the Living Dead on we love movies. Thanks guys.
