Howdy, folks! Hope everyone's October is kicking off nicely. We're super-stoked to be kicking off our favorite time of year: The Halloween Spooktacular is here! We've got a rockin' lineup of shows coming out this month and if you're curious what's coming down the pike, be sure to read your Big Daddy Dispatch! We've got a packed week ahead here, so let's see what's going down in the WHMu:

First up later today, be sure to tune into our YouTube channel as we're recapping the 64th New York Film Festival on the fall premiere on On-Screen Live! Andrew, Eric and Chris will be on hand to review a whole slew of films from the fall slate and beyond, including new ones from Werner Herzog, James Gray, and Pedro Almodóvar! We'll be live-streaming at noon/eastern today, with the video replay available immediately after broadcast!

Then tomorrow, the Halloween Spooktacular kicks off in grand fashion as we chat about Peter Jackson's super-fun, totally underrated paranormal comedy, The Frighteners! This is one we've wanted to revisit for a while now and man, Michael J. Fox is so great here. You can snag this episode on here AD-FREE at the $8 tier & up!

Then on Thursday, the Spooktacular spills over onto We ❤️ Movies as we break down one of our all-time faves, one of the best horror films of the 1990s, Wes Craven's Scream! We're finally getting around to this one, a movie we've wanted to cover on the air for years, and of course we went long on this one! You can get the whole episode on here at the $5 tier & up!

And then on Friday, we're closing out the week with the October edition of MELR0210, possibly the most chilling show we'll release all month! We're talking about the Beverly Hills, 90210 episode, "Twenty Years Ago Today," and the Melrose Place ep, "To Live and Die in Malibu"! We always have such a blast recapping these shows and this month is no different! You can get all the sexy, sunny, So-Cal-set action on here at the $10 tier & up!

That'll do it for this week, y'all! The weather's getting cooler, the leaves are changing, and the horror movies are on non-stop—it's the best time of the year! We hope our shows can offer up some much-needed laughs and distractions until we can all swan dive into the weekend once again! As always, we thank you all for continuing to be the kick-ass Patreon supporters that you are!

Take it easy,

Andrew, Chris, Eric & SteveWe Hate Movies

Waiting for the annual Leprechaun episode with Deadmeat

Which version of the Frighteners did you watch? The disc I have has the directors cut.

Daug

Love you guys!

Am I the only one in the world who hates Scream? When it came out it felt like I was watching a horror movie for children. I was 19 years old so maybe I was too old to enjoy it.

James Gibson

You know, when I saw Scream when it came out, I just thought it was fine and never went back to it. Maybe a rewatch and reassessment is due.

Fellow poors, Scream is free on YouTube

The Scream trailer-commercial was such an important factor in the buzz for the movie. Anyone and everyone could reference phone call/voice “do you like scary movies?” thing. The majority of movie quotes I remember are because they were featured in a trailer, such as “give me back my son!!!” in a Mel Gibson I’ve neither seen or can name

Craig

With Scream on the list, how many of the movies sampled for the Spooktacular theme music now have an episode?

I.C. Weiner

Man, I have some hot takes but this one is hotter than the sun.

Never even heard of Frighteners until the BDD. I had an absolute blast watching it in prep and is definitely going into my rotation. Scream is one of my favorite horror movies ever. Melr0210 is my favorite side show. I'm eating good this week. But Andrew's comment about the weather being cooler brought me down. We are in day 4 of 5 of our temperature being in the triple digits before it cools down to the high 90s until Friday here in southern Caifornia. Send help!

John Locke

You hate it, too? Glad I'm not the only one

Chris

Ransom!

Love frighteners used to have it on vhs. Few years ago discovered the extended edition and was blown away with how much better it made the film.

Hopefully they keep them as a tradition and once the Leprechaun series runs out they start another one. Those really are up there for my favorites of the year, they somehow make a 6 person podcast work
