“This is an ‘I Got It By the Way’ situation” - Steve

The 2026 Halloween Spooktacular continues this week as we’re chatting about the better-than-the-original sequel, Child’s Play 2!

How hilarious is it that this toy company insists on rebuilding the cursed doll to calm their shareholders? Why do these foster parents have so much terrifying clown stuff and breakable antiques in their home? Does Chucky have the strength of a man or the strength of a cursed doll? How much funnier is this one than the first? And has our society hidden a bygone era from us, where clowns were allowed to walk around and participate in society like it was totally normal? PLUS: A long jag on those gross airplane bottles of Fireball!

Child’s Play 2 stars Alex Vincent, Jenny Agutter, Gerrit Graham, Christine Elise, Grace Zabriskie, Peter Haskell, Beth Grant, Greg Germann, and Brad Dourif as the voice of Chucky; directed by John Lafia.

2 hour left on my shift let’s fucking go 🙌

This was pretty fun, but yes your script really has to somehow establish that this doll magically has the mass and strength of a grown man, otherwise why aren't you just flinging this thing aside? I did laugh REALLY hard twice though, at Chucky's note on the teachers paper, and at Chucky flying through the window.

Charles Grodin's Toupee

I say we split the difference and say Chucky has the strength of 1 Dollman, aka 1 Tiny Tim Thomerson.

Busiris

I come from a place of heavy nostalgia for the first few movies. These were "baby's first horror movies" for me. I probably watched the first three movies when I was as young as five years old. My parents seemingly encouraged it because I clearly enjoyed them and they didn't really scare me, which led me to stuff like Elm Street and Halloween shortly thereafter. I do have to give my parents credit for cultivating the little horror hound I was and would remain to this day.

Corey Jackson

Been wanting this one for ages guys thanks heaps for doing it 😀🤘

Jared Linder

If you don't know how to use an electric carving knife that's on you, I have to assume you also don't understand hedge trimmers and chainsaws. Having grown up in a family that used to have 40 person family and friend holiday dinners an electric carver saves your shoulder.

Jason

Somewhere out there a person has to a full sleeve tattoo, or maybe a big one on their calf, of just the famous horror movie dolls/toys.

RJ Cunningham

Are mini alcohol bottles not called nips in NYC? And you don’t have to trudge through mounds of fireball nips to walk down the street?

Randy Record

There is a scene in the Chucky series where he watches M3gan and called her a “bitch” for stealing his movies then say’s “Fuck you, Muh-three-gan”

Matt Reid

According to a gas station clerk I asked; the FireBall little bottles get around liquor laws in NY because they are malt based and not distilled or something and and can be sold in non-liquor stores. So they are even more gross than the regular FireBall.

Barista Bran

Speaking of that disgusting cinnamon whiskey, we have these gross little guys at the liquor store I work at.

Dan sulin

Back in my young wild days one of my buddies had a birthday party where they filled a piñata full of those little bottles of booze It’s kinda amazing a room full of drunk twenty something swinging a stick around blind folded didn’t lead to a mass casualty event.

Dan sulin

In my experience they don’t work any better than a good sharp carving knife

Rose Esposito

"You see how this looks, right? You're saying a voodoo rite next to a child??" 😂😂😂

D Arthur

They’re “nips” in RI & MA

D Arthur

How can you Big10 tailgate w/o nips of Fireball to go alongside your gas station pizza?

MarkNM

This is correct, so not only are they disgusting, they don't even fuck you up like regular liquor so it's a complete rip off all around

Billie Jackson

3 is the one with Andrew Robinson as the school barber that collects all the kids' hair clippings and is the creepiest character in the entire series of films.

Billie Jackson

Don't they end up with Chucky killing people in the White House in one of the seasons? Iirc at least one season is on Prime.

MarkNM

My grandpa carved the turkey every year at my house until my Grandma died, using the electric carver my parents brought out literally twice a year, Thanksgiving and Xmas (I assume it was a wedding gift.) I think he got a kick out of it.

Chris

I found this out when I checked why Fireball was able to be sold in gas stations in Texas. It's not even whiskey, it's just I guess "beverage"

RJ Cunningham

Dourif is so phenomenal voicing Chucky. That level of evil anger is exactly what Ben Shapiro looks for in his hero roles

Jared Linder

They use less effort. Having worked in professional kitchens where we would host banquets i can tell you that while a just sharpened and honed knife uses little effort its never none and requires a back and forth motion. Meanwhile an electric carver should only ever require you to let gravity do the work, just lift and let it fall through what you carve, that's less effort period.

I.C. Weiner

Regarding those little chainsaws: my wife's co-worker who I'm friends with got one last year that is designed to look like a chainsaw. He couldn't use it so he offered it for my use, I said no but my wife insisted we take it for Thanksgiving. Long story short: it didn't work well, mangled the turkey, and I broke it. Those things are not worth the hassle

I.C. Weiner

I got buzz balls as a cheap novelty shitty drink 16 or so years ago. I never thought they would last that long

duck of death

Don't know if anybody else noticed, but the guy driving the newspaper truck near the end of the movie is the guy who is "dead tired" on the plane in Commando.

Frank Grimes

Brad Dourif had no idea the talking doll movie would be the money maker for him right? He was in his early 30’s, Fiona on the way “welp got a kid coming! Sure I’ll make the evil talking doll movie.”

Zach Hughes

Saw just the ending of this when I was 5. As someone who already was a little creeped out by my MyBuddy doll, the ending of this movie was concentrated nightmare fuel.

Jack Hughes

Thank you guys so much for covering this one! It’s an all time favorite of mine and I’ve been waiting for it since I discovered you all 4 years ago. Great episode.

Tim Batson

Eric's logic is sound. Never sleep nude.

Jeffrey Giorgi

About ten years ago you guys released the child's play 3 episode. I will never forget listening while standing on a metro platform in Washington dc heading home from work when Andrew does his Chucky scream (riffing on the heart attack kill). I laughed so hard in the middle of a sea of people. Everyone stared at me for just a moment. Later that evening I was trying to explain the gag to my girlfriend, forgetting her roommate had gone to bed earlier in the night. And I let out the biggest Chucky scream in a dead silent apartment, waking up her roommate but also causing us to have an uncontrollable fit of laughter that we still laugh about to this day. Basically, thank you for over a decade of laughs. My days are better when y'all are a part of it.

Miriam Traore

Yes the fireball thing is super weird. The little bottles are “liquors” the big bottle are actual booze. They got sued and this was an odd work around.

Conrad Silas

Is there a 11/22/63 ref at 13:28? Might be time to read that one again.

Wil Brown

You guys missed a joke..."the only way to stop a bad guy with a doll is a good guy with a doll."

Tanner McCullough

What’s the movie they talk about having the best kill? I searched letterboxd for soulmate and sole mate but nothing looked right

Craig

It’s “Soulm8te”. Like M3gan or S1m0ne. (Searched for the trailer on YouTube and it knew what I meant)
