On the October edition of our Star Trek recap show, The Nexus, we're talking about the final TOSTAS episode and a TNG that's sweet, if a little annoying!

First up on TOSTAS, it's the very last episode, "The Counterclock Incident." This show took its final bow on October 12th, 1974 and featured, what else? The Enterprise crew turning into babies! That's right, Kirk & Co. are de-aging rapidly after chasing a space lady through a supernova into some kind of backwards universe. What a way to end it!

Then, across the Neutral Zone on TNG, it's the touching, but mildly annoying episode, "New Ground." Premiering back on January 4, 1992, this episode features the return of everyone's second most-disliked DSB on the Enterprise, Worf's son, Alexander! The b-plot about the Enterprise helping out some scientist create a new way to hit warp speed is kind of whatever, but stick around for all the ways Alexander humiliates and frustrates Worf throughout this episode! Bonus points for the script allowing Michael Dorn to show a more tender side of Worf!

NOTE: We recorded this episode over a week before hearing the sad news that Walter Koenig had passed away. He'll forever be a legend in our eyes.

Comrade Trash Panda

One of the aspects of Worf's character that I wish was explored more is the fact that he's a Klingon fan-boy. He was raised on earth by Russian Jewish parents, he was not raised by Klingons in Klingon culture. Everything he knows about Klingons he's read in books. I find this to be the most interesting element of his back story and it's never explored even once. I want scenes where Worf wears a kippah and leads a Seder on Passover and insists that Jews are a warrior race equal to the Klingons.

I mean, speaking of disgusting shitboys I've very cross with TOSTAS for giving us a scene where Kirk deages into a DSB because I was certain that's where we were going.

Craig

RIP Tiny Die Hard. Moontrap was noticeably absent from the obituaries I read this week.

NFlux Forever

So begins one of the longest-running jokes in trek fandom: Worf being a shit father. Also, the shot with Riker's rescue of the creature at the end of the episode always reminds me of when Groundskeeper Willie was attacked by the wee turtles.

MarkNM

"Wet Beef and Raw Potatoes" is an underrated Zappa album.

D Arthur

RIP Walter Koenig

Todd B

It wasn't brought up this time, but it has come up before - another stay tuned role for Bosnall is the DSB lead of the 90s killer kid movie Mikey. It's something else.

Todd B

THEY WERE TOO QUICK FOR ME!

Les Whinen

February is coming up. 90s DSB-apoolza has a nice ring. Blank Check, First Kid, Little Rascals, that god awful Leave It to Beaver remake... and of course Heavyweights WLM

Paul

Earth is a WHM side character whom I’d love to hear more about on the show from time to time. 😄

Paul

We are months away from an Orange Alert TNG episode. 😬

Sealbro

This might be the last time we hear their TOS impressions until Trials and Tribble-ations. End of an era, I've been listening since 2017!

WarOfTheBees

When I think about it, the TNG character I connect with the most has to be Worf. Whenever Alexander shows up, I also lose all interest.

MarkNM

Ooooo that movie.

Dan sulin

If an Alexander episode is a Yellow alert and a Troy’s Mom is a red alert. I wonder what happens in just ten episodes because it’s a both episode and it’s BAD!

Ray

RIP Patrick Stewart 😭

Lar

Oh god DAMMIT. We lost Walter Koenig a few days ago and I just saw we lost Sir Patrick????? Ughhhhhhhhhhhh

D Arthur

RIP Patrick Stewart, a role model, a legend

Robert Walton

This is a rough ones, guys. RIP Pat Stew

Michael Nigrey

Definitely need an emergency episode for Sir Pat Stew.

Randy Record

I say the next nexus should be a special memorial episode to Koenig and Stewart.

Craig

I’ve got bad news for you - they already did that DS9 episode during lister request month! So no more 90s-obsessed Bones. :(

Billie Jackson

The Counter Clock Incident has a carla, not to be confused with the Karla that Patrick Stewart played in the BBC adaptation of Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy.

John Armitage

That was the Masters of the Universe Skeletor mask.
