It's the 69th time we're flashing back to the sunny, sexy '90s on MELR0210!

Nice.

First up on Beverly Hills, 90210, it's the back-to-school episode, "Song of Myself." First airing September 9, 1992, this episode has the gang heading back to school where Steve, Donna and Brenda volunteer to be "senior buddies," while Brandon makes a power grab at The Blaze, Andrea battles with a pervert teacher, and the chicken comes home to roost for David Silver when Nikki shows up as a student as West Beverly!

Then over on Melrose Place, it's the totally outrageous episode, "With This Ball and Chain"! This wild episode premiered on February 23, 1994, and has Sydney finally telling Jane what's been going on with the psycho-shit between her and Michael, Alison naively and foolishly accepting Billy's lazy marriage proposal, and Jo getting put on trial for Reed's murder!

MELR0210 is a WHM podcast where the guys blissfully stroll through the Beverly Hills, 90210 and Melrose Place timelines. The TV episodes covered will run in broadcast order. Thanks so much for continuing to support the WHM Patreon! We know you have a lot of options when it comes to podcast entertainment and we're glad you chose to spend some time with us. You're way cooler than Dylan McKay!Cover art by Felipe Sobreiro.

Good morning WHM!

Fun Fact: Whitman had Milton Berle's huge hog in mind when he composed "Live Oak, with Moss"

I heard Chris's voice at the start of the episode and I thought that the impossible had happened: Andrew had taken an episode off 🤯. But it was not the case, lol

MarkNM

Steve, meanwhile...NINE TIMES.

Frank Grimes

I'm here for that beethovan stay tuned

Tyler The Destroyer

Holy fuck is that what’s going on with Beethoven?!?! I’ve only had memories of the franchise being a thing. I don’t think I’ve actually watched it.

Daryl Williams

Chris Penn and David Ducovney are easily mistaken for the other.

Ray

In honor of Steve, Jane needs to 🎶 move out dont mess around, move out, you bring me down 🎶

Mitochondria

The girls talking in the bathroom is very accurate, 99% of the time we're just peeing and just continue the conversation and don't even think about it.

The Great Wheel

Reeds MURDER? I must have missed an episode. TO THE ARCHIVES!

Andrew McCoy

Love Cabin, but got the distinct feeling that he was hosting this episode at gunpoint lol Eric has his sideshow, Andrew usually hosts...with Steve gone, Andrew must have called Chris out of the bullpen for Melr0210, and he's just still figuring out his hosting style.

NFlux Forever

Cabin nailed it with referring to MP as the world's most dysfunctional polycule, though I reject the idea that polycules are inherently dysfunctional. With regards to 90210, keep in mind that David is still a junior, not a senior. So while still a grey area, he's still vastly more age appropriate for Nikki than Brandon. Speaking of "9021OMG" (Tori and Jennie's terrible podcast), they have REPEATEDLY made the same mistake that Andrew made here where he cited Darren Star as the episode's writer. 9021OMG is truly a shitshow between Jennie's failing memory, Tori's general brokenness as a human being, producer Amy Sugarman's being legitimately one of the dumbest people alive and the show's mean girl vibe coming from its hosts.

Some thoughts I had for this episode - You guys mentioned Dana Barron being in this episode, one of her first appearances. She's also in Death Wish 4 which was my LRM pick when you did that episode in 2020 and in the episode I think either Steve or Andrew brings up her 90210 character. Just a couple weeks later was the official start of Melr0210 during lockdown. I guess I feel a sense of coming full circle from an episode I requested 4 years ago to now where you're talking about her on the show once again.

Should have a WHM month of “Beethoven or Verhoeven?” Where the content of the episode is held as surprise and is either a Verhoeven movie or a film from the Beethoven franchise

Melrose Place has no chill & I’m here for WHM’s take on the mess. This and the next ep are so worth rewatching

We had to sell ads for my school newspaper. Usually it was businesses like photography studios, dress and tux rentals, the pizza place across the street, bowling alleys/arcades, used music stores. I’m old. The money was used to defray printing costs, high school journalism conferences, computer upgrades… Our paper was 16- 20 pages. Maybe that’s a midwest thing. We never published stories about the gruesome deaths of students or the sex lives of faculty, no matter how hard I fought for it.

2 things: 1. Instead of putting a playoff game on Peacock to juice their numbers, they should instead do a massive crossover and make season 3 of Doctor Death follow Dr. Michael Mancini killing all of his patients while he's high as fuck on pain pills and his girlfriend/sister-in-law manipulates all the administrators to keep them in line and him killing. 2. I don't think you guys said anything wrong, but I wanted to add to the discussion on public defenders. One of my best friends wanted to be a PD the entire time we were in law school together and worked his ass off to get the job. Despite the guy being one of the most grounded and kind people I have ever met, that job crushed his soul within 3 years, and he stopped practicing law all together afterwards. I went out drinking with his friend's from the PD office twice (both were lowkey after work drinks on like a Wednesday), and I could put them back back then, but every single person that was from the PD office was clearly drinking to keep the demons at bay and seemingly did so nightly. It is an extremely shitty job that the government purposefully underfunds to make them at the mercy of the DA and eventually even the best of them will succumb to the system. P.S. With Steve missing 2 of the last 3 episodes, I hope he can keep up with all the plotlines next month! (and I hope he is feeling better and all that)

I love that Sidney can go from being barely being able to function as an adult to someone with the mutant power to randomly appear in hospitals and charm doctors.

Caught the ep with Milton Berle on Pluto recently. Steve gets to know him while doing community service at a nursing home. It's a hoot. One of the episodes that I would write in for listener request month, if it were available. Also the one where Steve gets busted stealing an entire stand up set from... Richard Beltzer!

Which is the biggest hive of scum and villany? Mos Eisley Cantina, Melrose Place, or Michael & Sydney’s beach bungalow? 😂😂😂

Kassandra Hope

I seriously thought the big reveal of 90210 was going to be that Mr. Meyers was actually gay and was ignoring Andrea because he was so into Brandon - and I'm very disappointed it turns out he was just sexist.

Well…..we’re waiting!

Billie Jackson

A school paper that did publish stories about student deaths and sex lives of faculty would have been very busy in that Gene Roddenberry film that Roger Vadim directed.

Chris Penn was surprisingly good as the letter reading framing device of Red Shoe Diaries.
