PROMETHEUS (2012) FULL LENGTH MOVIE REACTION - WATCH ALONG

Comments

Mark Messer

They cut it out of the film, but Ridley Scott explained that originally the engineer was going to tell David that they wanted to destroy humanity because we killed Jesus basically. They tried for a long time to stop us from killing each other and it didn’t work so they thought we should be destroyed

I have seen this movie before but I had forgotten that it was so many familiar faces and voices present other than the obvious (Idris Elba, Michael Fassbender and Charlize Theron).

I love you guys take these journeys, no matter where they might lead. They have actually made me look at some movies I don't like in a different way. Some of them are still not my favorite but there are things in each of them that I can appreciate. Like the way certain actors portrayed their characters, set design, practical effects, etc. Thank you guys for being more than just another reaction channel. Keep it up!

These 2 movies were very interesting. What I enjoy about these two movies in particular is the disturbing aspects of the alien we get to see. The trilobite (giant face hugger) and the hammerpede which was the mutated worm were probably the creepiest parts of this film. I'm not the biggest fan of either movie, but I really enjoy when they introduce new types of aliens, minus the one that won't be named from a particular 4th movie. lol

Tatiana Ferreira

I actually love all the alien movies, even when they are not as good as the first ones, they are still very entertaining. 😁 I've been waiting for this one. Great reaction as always! 👌😃

Great reaction guys... Was certainly a pick up of quality from Alien 3 & 4, with Aliens being my personal fav... The Xenomorphs always inherit traits of their hosts, hence why the Engineer Xeno had a unique look, as does the Pred Xeno & Dog Xeno in AvP: Requiem... Onto Alien: Covenant then...

Can't wait to see this and hear your thoughts. This was ny first and only 3D cinema experience. "A friend accidentily bought tickets to 3D". Last row without my glasses, spilled my drink 30 seconds into the movie, one guy was so drunk he puked on himself and had to be carried out by his two friends, the smell lingered throughout the movie. It was wild! Didn't care much for the movie back then but it has grown for me over the years.

This film was a lot better than I remembered, so it was cool re-visiting it with you guys. I do have to say, it is still one of the absolute weakest ones for me, despite the great cast. It looks fantastic and Scott gives us some awesome shots but the story just doesn't quite hold up. Why did the engineers change their mind? What actually happened so all of them died? What is the black goo? What is the actual plan of the engineers? How did one of them end up on the planet in the first movie? It's just a bunch of holes with nothing to fill them up with. If you just put it in a sort of vacuum on it's own, it's a fairly ok movie. With the rest of the franchise in the back of your head, it's a disappointment for me. But still, fun watching it with you guys again. If you want to see some other interesting movies with species from other planets, here are some suggestions: The Faculty (1998) Arrival (2016) Pitch Black (2000) Sphere (1998) Stargate (1994) Starship Troopers (1997)

I love the choices they made with the creature design, clearly trying to think through 'what is the evolution?' to get to the xenomorph. Also with David--to see an early AI/android and compare him with the later model that we're more familiar with. I felt like Fassbender did such a good job with it; I could see elements of Ash, but also Bishop. Can't wait for y'all to see the next one!

What an excellent choice. I really enjoyed the direction this script took. Michael Fassbender and Noomi Rapace were great cast choices. So far my favorite xenomorph movie is Aliens. Another great movie choice would be Predators (2010) with Adrian Brody, Alice Braga and Topher Grace.

The Bfunkalicious

Oh, because you guys really like films shot through the perspective of a hand hold camera, and with monsters at that. I recommended the film Troll Hunter. It’s in Norwegian but with English subtitles, actually one of the best films I’ve watched with the found footage style.

I interpreted it as the Engineers were creating life with their black goo. that's what all the vases were. but because it reacts so potently with organisms, the vases became contaminated and perhaps what came out scared all the Engineers and killed them except the one. maybe he saw their mistake and wanted to kill off all their created planets(I'm just guessing here) and start over or maybe they have a cycle where they start life over after several generations. Then, our crew came into contact with it here and woke up the surviving Engineer who was now pissed and wanted to finish what he started. I haven't seen the next movie, I'm waiting for when you guys react!

What year is it now? Who did we kill about 2000 years ago? An engineer maybe?

Emperor Raven

I agree... I felt like the plot went halfway into exploring the origins of the engineers and what was driving their choices and changes over time! It's such a cool concept to dive into, yet so disappointing ultimately and the next film is a dumpster fire writing wise lol.

Emperor Raven

I know right... I love their in-depth analysis and conversations that actually grow our appreciation of film making techniques, aspects of storytelling and crafting characters!

Emperor Raven

Ahhh now that's very fascinating....

Emperor Raven

Interesting reactions here, yes Prometheus has an interesting premise with very interesting new concepts being introduced but it just kind of falls off a cliff in terms of "securing" those answers we're searching for lol.

After the gritty, action-heavy sequels of the 90s, Prometheus (2012) saw Ridley Scott return to the universe he created with a massive budget and even bigger existential questions. It remains the most divisive film in the entire franchise—a "beautifully shot headache" that some call a masterpiece and others call "stunningly stupid." Prometheus is a 4-star production with a 2-star script. It is a movie that demands to be seen on the biggest screen possible, even if you’ll spend half the time shouting at the characters for being incompetent. It’s an essential, if frustrating, expansion of the Alien lore.

Nowhere Man

I feel as though the biggest flaw of this movie isn't contained inside the movie; it's the expectations of the "fans". Why do so many people become irate and disgusted when everything isn't explained to them? It isn't the job of any story (as a movie or show or book) to explain anything. In general, the worldbuilding in the Alien franchise is superficial. Alien movies aren't about lore or societal dynamics or lofty concepts. Instead, the plots are always: create a "kill box" (usually a space ship or confined planetary complex), fill the kill box with a small crew that makes incredibly stupid decisions (and one badass woman who's smart enough to survive), sprinkle in some deadly xenomorphs, and then let the audience witness the carnage. I find it incredibly odd that anyone would ever watch an Alien movie or show and expect anything more. That's like watching a Terminator movie and expecting it to reset back to an earlier timeline. It's never going to happen. The questions you asked are absolutely massive. This movie is already quite long. Answering any of those questions would've been a tacky info dump with no context. And any small amount of additional info would've still left unanswered questions. There's simply no way to explain that much lore in one single movie. Even a multi-season series would've had a hard time showing that much history. So far, the one Alien movie that provided the best explanations for this alien bioweapon tech was Romulus, but that was because it was set on a Weyland-Yutani research station and Ash 2.0 was able to narrate the lengthy exposition. In this movie, the crew stumbles into an abandoned storage facility for genocidal bioweapons and the only non-weaponized life forms are "Engineers" who are most likely soldiers. Given how dangerous this weapon stockpile is, I'm sure those soldiers have orders to instantly kill any trespassers. Beyond that, their computer files may or may not contain useful information, and I seriously doubt David could recover and translate them before everyone dies a gruesome death. That means there's nothing in this setting that can support a substantial lore-dump. Therefore, expectations of more information aren't reasonable or fair. Why is this one movie being picked on? Why weren't these same expectations applied to all other Alien movies? Why wasn't there a massive "not enough answers" riot after every single Alien movie? How about every single movie of every single franchise that doesn't adequately explain everything? Is that what visual sci-fi has come to? If one single movie in a franchise can't lore-dump for the entire franchise then it's worthless. Huh? Where was the Terminator movie that explained absolutely everything? Where was the Matrix movie that explained absolutely everything? Where was the MCU movie or show episode that explained absolutely everything? Where was the Stranger Things episode that explained absolutely everything? Is there ANY franchise in which one movie or episode explained absolutely everything? This movie didn't fail because it didn't provide enough answers. The viewers are failing the movie by expecting something that one single movie can't possibly provide. This movie actually did add a considerable amount to the Alien-franchise lore, but instead of reveling in how much fuller the glass is, there's nothing but complaints about how empty the glass is. That's what future movies and shows do: they keep filling the glass. But none of them fill the entire glass all at once. Just to be clear, I'm not attacking; I'm soap-boxing. This reaction, like all the others, is exceptional. You two are always thoughtful and open-minded and reasonable. I'm more upset by this rising tide of irrational expectations (especially from trolls) that are tarnishing otherwise excellent productions. As an amusing side note: be sure to carefully examine the very end of the credits.
