The Media Knights

Let us know your thoughts on the film! There's a lot to talk about 😀

Good scifi leaves things to the imagination, in fact, good scifi should spark imagination. The original Alien movie did that very well. The original ship they found the eggs on was very mysterious. The evil company and Ash that sealed the fate of the crew also sparked a lot of imagination. Prequels have to be very carefull when filling backstory in because its very easy to ruin the sense of wonder you feel watching the original. These prequels totally missed the mark in that regard. I feel like he was trying to make a movie(s) about the origin of mankind, the nature of intelligence, and the dangers of science gone bad. He could have made that movie without mixing it with aliens. So you end up with a mess of a movie where the audience's imagination was better than the movie. With that said, these movies are entertaining but I honestly kind of pretend that they are not part of the aliens franchise. The directors cut of aliens suffered from that a little bit too. The scene where Newt's parents find the alien ship was cut from the theatrical release and it was much better in my opinion. When the marines get there you have no idea what happened and you fill it in with your imagination. BTW you guys should watch Predators. Its better than 2 and its better than AVP.

Yeah I wasn't a fan of this film. I hadn't actually heard about Ridley's feelings about the 2nd film. If that is true that would be one more reason upon a bunch I have of why I didn't like this film. I would also say that I feel like Ridley has lost his touch in directing, but I also feel the the writing suffered quite a bit here. I am of the mind that if Ridley is trying to retcon the alien franchise, I won't accept it. For me Alien 1 through 4 is canon, I liked the first two the most, 3 was alright, 4 I really liked. But Prometheus and Alien Covenant for me will be fan fiction-that I didn't like at all. The creatures that had more fleshy exteriers are known as neomorphs. I did like the design of them and their capabilities, and there are some aspects that were okay but the stupidity of all these crew just really takes me out of it. I can't stand it. I felt nothing for any of these characters with maybe the exception of Daniels. She might be the only one I felt a little bit about. But everyone else yeah there was nothing. I was also not fond of the idea that David was the creator of the Alien as we know it. Also as you stated not ever getting to LV-426 really annoyed me. I had seen some videos that the people David had decimated were a primitive cast of Engineers or are just another primitve being that the engineers created. But they are not the actual engineers. Personally I thought David and Walter's interaction was interesting but in the end I would have preferred something more creative and mysterious as the origin of the xenomorphs. From AvP I always thought the Predators had been the original creators of the xenomorph looking for the ultimate prey. For me that would have been more interesting I think. David being the source is actually kindof dumb to me. Also I thought what happened to Shaw was a dis-service to that character because to me she was just as bad-ass as Ripley. Was really disapointed about how that came about. Another issue I had, Xenos do not have eyes, didn't like how they did the POV. And to be honest, I wasn't happy about the xeno in this. This wasn't our xeno as far as I'm concerned. For me it wasn't that great. I was also really disapointed that we didn't get the traditional chestburster. That alone makes this xeno not my xeno. There is a third film Alien Romulus. Which I dod plan to watch I am curious about it.

This also raises question for the AVP movie. How could Predators hunt Aliens on ancient Earth if they haven't been created yet?

The Alien saga, perpetually reminding us of the Golden Rule of planetary exploration: Don't stick your face in it.

If I remember correctly, Ridley Scott never really loved the idea of the 2nd Aliens movie and beyond, including the predator involvement. I think he only went along because Aliens was so successful, but he still didn't love it.

I mentioned in the last reaction to Prometheus I wasn't too big of a fan of these 2 movies, but what I did enjoy was the variation of the different types of aliens, the disturbing nature of how they came to be, and the additional environmental impact of the black mutagen. I definitely wasn't a fan of the ending, but it is what it is. The medical bay scene drove me nuts every time I watched it. Like with Alien 3, I don't like that Shaw was killed off screen and we were left in the dark on that, but I think it's reasonable to assume the black mutagen persisted even though she got the trilobite out of her.

1. The white one is the Neomorph and the black one was the Praetomorph. It's the grandfather to the Xenomorph we know and "love" lol. It emerges from the hosts' chest fully formed, and it's more aggressive. One drawback is that it's less intelligent, it was kinda shown when it attacked the crane during the shuttle fight scene. 2. This was the Engineers home world, the super model versions we see must be a soldier caste that were genetically enhanced for war/conquest and "Planet Seeding". 3. THE REASON THE ENGINEERS WANTED TO DESTROY HUMANITY!!! Ridley Scott said that an Engineer was sent to Earth to correct the path that humans were on. However, the humans crucified that Engineer, whom the histories would translate to be the story of Jesus Christ. This led to the Engineers wanting to destroy humanity, because of their absolute disrespect for life. 4. I feel like David bombed the engineers home world because he also sees them as a disappointment. How can my creators' creator be so weak?? He even mentions it in the beginning of the movie when he says "I will serve you, yet you're human. You will die, I will not." 5. David has one goal, to create the perfect organism. The antithesis of humanity, a creature unclouded by conscience, remorse, or delusions of morality. He sees himself as perfect, and sees them as biological perfection.

Michael G. Munz

Also, I'm suddenly wondering if you've ever seen Pitch Black, which would make for an awesome reaction...

Camila

I love that movie! Realy hope thay will react to it.

Silverghost

Coming up with even more plot holes and fan theories just proves how terrible this movie (and Prometheus) is. Not to mention the mental capabilities of the crew in this one.

DarkLarva

Please watch the prologue because it shows Shaw and David talking, it's short but it gives you more of Shaw and if possible make a react video of it, Also the new Alien movie Directed by Fede Álvarez (Evil Dead 2013 Reboot) is amazing and a good brige of the first and second. On a side note during your Isolation replay I stated on youTube that you missed or maybe didn't acknowledge the Bladerunner reference with the origami unicorn as a interesting fact it has also been stated by Ridley Scott, that the Alien universe takes place in the same universe as Bladerunner but we don't exactly know how they coincide timeline wise. which is an interesting thing because then you think about Wayland's Androids and Tyrell's Replicants, But that is on another tangent.

West Beast

if you guys haven't yet already, I highly recommend continue watching the predator series

To me, Prometheus and Covenant both feel like anthologies in the universe, rather than strict prequels. Which is fine by me, but theyre not quite treating them that way, and then the frustration kicks in, lol. I don't mind the questions left or open endings--that's very typical for horror genre, although perhaps not for sci-fi. I like the room for the audience to puzzle. I have mixed feelings about how they handled Shaw. I get the complaints about her dying off screen, but I'm also releived that they weren't just shooting for a Ripley remake. Instead, we get two very different, but strong in their own way, female leads. If she had lived, I feel like we would have had even more direct comparisons to Ripley, and complaints because of that. I do agree that the motivations for why people are doing things, especially the stupid choices before the panic kicks in, are hard to swallow. Curiosity aside, even if the environment looks safe, they should have been wearing masks or something because of unknown contagion. Once the panic sets in--I'm fine with the stupid decisions. I think hollywood/ movies have fooled us into thinking people are more competent than they are in situations like that, so to me, having the slipping on the blood, etc., was so much more realistic and therefore believable. Faris was a pilot, not a soldier or a medic. So her forgetting her training (assuming she had more than basic drills on quarantine and firearms) while people are screaming at her and she's already been in a lot of stress from the wakeup to the flight down...idk. makes sense to me, even if it frustrates. It takes a lot of repetition and training for that kind of stuff to be muscle memory, and they gave us no reason to assume she would have had that. Led worth, dying in the med bay, was the member of the security team in that situ with the training.

Hello, i hope you are doing fine ! Are you guys going to react : Kingdom of heaven ?

Kaleigh Kaos

I have a feeling that if P.K. Dick were still alive, he'd protest that universe pairing.

DarkLarva

But just like Edge of tomorrow is based on All you need is kill, it’s not all you need is kill. Bladerunner is based on Do androids dream of electric sheep it’s NOT Do androids dream of electric sheep. In that book the main character never had a wife and the tyrell corporation didn’t exist as well as the overall story arch are very different. That’s what I feel people get wrong, they assume Bladerunner IS the novel it’s based on, when it only scratches the surface. In the end it’s only based on it and not really it. So PK Dick really can’t say much, and Im pretty sure he would have hated or not agree with the existence of Bladerunner Edit:: Correction He hated what they did to his book

Moral of the story: in one way or another, AI will be the end of us 😅

Can’t wait for you guys to watch the current one!

Emperor Raven

Yeah the stupid writing and character choices kill most people in this film lmao, you got some nice personal perspectives yourself though!

Emperor Raven

I actually think that's pretty cool, watched the Bladerunner films a while ago! It's true that there is a high degree of technological overlap due to both franchises having highly sophisticated and sentient androids!

Emperor Raven

Yeah it's a major blow that Ridley Scott was not able to make the films he actually planned on making and he has stated he had frustrations dealing with studio interference in the mix too! Prometheus was much better off and far more solid being its own set of films, it could have branched off into its own lore for that deep sci-fi horror unique twist it had in its favor and got all sorts of answers as we went deeper into its core plot. Some people were also complaining because they wanted to see "more aliens," but that's not a good excuse for what happened here. Instead it becomes a discombobulated mess lacking direction and identity for itself... Alien: Romulus carries some powerful themes, set designs, environments, and very creative tense battles for sure, although it does lean on past films a bit too much in my opinion which weakens its ability to stand on its own as more time goes by (I definitely enjoyed watching it though).

Emperor Raven

Another cool fun fact is the neomorph's concept design was inspired by this shark that expands its mouth really far (it snatches prey at lighting fast speeds in the ocean, I saw a video of it before). It was cool seeing them in this film and a welcomed addition imo! Thanks for giving more details and context on some of those points, David indeed is a fascinating character and menacing villain due to his dark intentions, inner turmoil between AI and humanity, and his intellectual ability to fool people into trusting him. The stupid writing early on along with terrible character decisions really kill me though lmao.

Emperor Raven

Well I'm happy he wasn't a deciding factor cause Aliens is amazing and the other films have a lot of fun moments despite their flaws! I thank Ridley Scott for creating the franchise starting off, but I don't think he can bring it to its full potential (at least not with all the studio interference that keeps happening).

Emperor Raven

I agree with many of your points and those critical of the film indeed feel the same about certain aspects. The writing and cast is just poorly written with a few exceptions and the story just dives off a cliff compared to Prometheus's potential imo. Ridley is definitely not as sharp as he was earlier on crafting solid stories with relatable, charming, and realistic characters but he always does an amazing job setting up the tone of the film with awesome set pieces and atmospheric tension like few out there; although I also acknowledge he was NOT allowed to make the films he even wanted to make due to so much studio interference that happened during these films' productions. P.S. NO ONE is as badass as Ripley though! =P

Emperor Raven

Yeah when it comes to sci-fi exploration themes the feeling of wonder and use of imagination is so critical, it's a delicate balancing act to leave enough out that it sparks imagination and fill enough in that the payoff going forward with a story is satisfying and fulfilling that we made progress undertaking the journey as viewers along with the characters driving the plot forward in a fictional work.

Emperor Raven

This film to me was an interesting mess of classic studio interference, poor writing and characters (with some exceptions), and a lack of direction with an identity crisis (feeling like a hybrid of Prometheus and Aliens not ever taking root firmly in its own ground). It's got some cool concepts and the neomorphs and praetomorphs were badass animalistic hunters that really created super creepy and tense atmospheric tension that I loved. This film indeed has the dumbest characters in the entire franchise EASILY and the stupid decisions they make definitely drives you batty, I would have appreciated the audience's intelligence not being insulted with such poor choices and actions taken throughout the film. I understand they are traveling to world they don't yet understand, but like you guys mentioned these aren't inexperienced teenagers but well traveled and intelligent engineers and scientists that don't use common sense which throws off the realism and underwhelms both the cast and the threats they come across. Instead the threats they face should be more unpredictable, deadly, and intelligent that bakes in quality realism and makes you realize the threats out there are actually defeating the characters with some capabilities and intellect until countermeasures are formed and applied, which in turn makes the plot and characters much higher quality with stronger writing out the gate. It's just not fun watching characters be this dumb in critical situations lol, like the chick that slipped on the blood in the med bay with another character doing the same thing later on who was coming to kill the infant neomorph. Going outside their ship with no headgear protection to guard them against airborne particles, bacteria, and contagion was also risky and intellectually dishonest for a group of "scientists," again just letting things happen instead of showing that the group came prepared and something "reasonable" went awry. Similar to the idiots in Prometheus playing around in the cave where the one guy stuck his face right in front of the alien snake creature and got folded for his stupidity... plus Shaw putting David back together again, which got her and countless Engineers killed in the process (which now put that entire colony on the ship at risk). How we witness characters dying and events progressing is definitely a combination of lazy writing with studio interference affecting some aspects. By far my favorite characters are Daniels, Walter, and David, the secondary captain was also a fool and stuck his face right in front of a face hugger egg foolishly just to get himself taken out when he should have known not to trust anything David was saying at that point. David is a very intellectually cunning and menacing villain though, I do love the early themes of AI vs. humanity and how he questions his purpose being so arrogant as to always see himself above others (whether it's other androids or humans). The end of the film is quite the shocker and that goes for movies in general, the ending I will give them praise for just because it's so ballsy and uncommon to occur!

M@xR3acts

If you enjoy Ridley Scott’s visual mastery and the "mad scientist" themes of Prometheus, you’ll likely find it a fascinating, if flawed, experience. If you prefer the pure, lean survival horror of the original Alien, the convoluted lore and "dumb characters" might be a dealbreaker.
