Chase

Hangman may be cocky as hell, but he came in clutch for his team 😎🙌🏼

Matt Cantu

Hell yes! Just made my Saturday! Y’all are the best!

Superior to the original film in every way, and as massive as Top Gun was Maverick still sold more tickets at the domestic and international box office. A stunning achievement.

Michael Rutter

Hey have either of you guys seen the 1985 film Return to Oz? If not I highly recommend it and would love to see you guys react to it and would love to hear your opinions on it.

Melissa Creel

Heck yeah!!!. Lets go!!! I was really unsure when I heard about this sequal because Top Gun is so great. But this blew us away. So glad we saw this in the theaters. The flight sequences were breathtaking. They couldn't have gotten a better person to play Goose's son, and so glad Val Kilmer got to be in it as well. His scenes hit hard when I saw them but now they break me. So very happy you guys did this one. Now we are off to see Mission Impossible this afternoon on you 😁, thanks again for the gift card. Just a Tom Cruise kind of day. Have a blessed day guys!!

Domo

As much of an ass that hangman was being to rooster in that confrontation, he’s not wrong about anything he said.

Hangman is not like Iceman. He is like Maverick. You mentioned it while watching the movie, but got it wrong in your review/analysis. Maverick DID leave his wingman hanging. Why else would he have said "Haven't seen that in a while."? It reminded him of himself. Hangman might be cocky, but he is the best pilot out of all of them and he was right about everything he said about Rooster. Rooster would have put not just himself but everyone else in danger by rejecting Maverick's methods and advises. He needed to put his personal sh*t asside and Hangman was right to call him out on this. Did he go to far by mentioning Goose's death? Yes, but he was on point with his criticism. I've seen the movie 13 times at the theatre and it was an exceptional experience every damn time. I can't even describe how I felt when I first saw it. Everytime it was about Goose or the scenes with Iceman, it just pulled on my heartstrings. And even now, after watching it probably for the 50th time, I'm crying at the end when Rooster and Maverick are talking after they landed and when Rooster sees the pictures of his dad. This movie is just perfection and I agree that it surpasses the original in every aspect. 🙂

I love this movie so much. I haven't seen the original in so long that I've forgotten most of it, but boy do I remember that canopy scene. I am so glad everyone made it home this time. It is mind boggling that a lot of the movie isn't CGI, but actual planes. This is just what I needed after being sick for 24 straight hours. On a tangent, my CO in an RPG gave me the callsign "Wildfire" and I think it fits. lol.

Melissa Creel

As a side note you guys need to go watch Pitch Meeting Guys Top Gun: Maverick potch meeting. All of his things are great but this one is brilliant.

Adam Ramirez

Another amazing reaction in the books. So glad you guys followed up part 1 so fast! This movie is nothing short of amazing and then some. May I suggest an OPPENHEIMER watch? If you like Nolan's work, and a Hans Zimmer feel (though the sound design is scored by a new but equally amazing composer), you will love this movie too.

Small point of clarification: Fighter jets are flung off of the deck by steam catapults powered by the carrier's nuclear power plants. Given the protocol involved, we can reliably say that Hangman was ultimately ordered to launch and save Maverick, they just didn't want to show us that part for the dramatic tension. This was an amazing movie, though, and it hits every damn time. I did have to remind myself that you didn't know the mission from the start and that they only revealed the full mission steps in stages, so it was fun seeing the revelation each time. And I really appreciate how, even with Tom Cruise at the helm, we DID expect him to die for large portions of the movie, and that's really a credit to everyone involved. As far as sequels, I don't know if I'm comfortable saying yet if it's better than the T1/T2 duo, but I wouldn't be mad if someone did. Easily one of the top 3 best sequels of all time, either way.

Helion

So, apparently the P-51K Mustang we saw at the beginning and at the end, actually belongs to Tom Cruise. That's his personal aircraft. Or at least one of them. Also, someone really didn't come back from the mission. Let's hold a candle for the Super Hornets that Maverick and Rooster took. They will be missed :)).

Helion

I think it's a case of apples and oranges there. Putting these movies against T1 and T2 is kinda' unfair, just because they're so different

John Ostlund

5th time watching at it still hits me in the feels. Such good writing to get you emotionally invested and to set stakes that feel very real.

Ghostrider

Love this movie, and loved your responses to it. I've not been much of a reaction watcher, but there is something satisfying about seeing your responses when I already know what's coming. It's great. Keep it up!

As I mentioned earlier the U.S. needed some boost post 9/11 another two timeless are Behind enemy lines and the Last Castle… again Post 9/11

I have seen this movie so many times now and I have to ask a question…how the hell did Hondo go from working the Darkstar control room to assisting in the mission training and then to working the operations of the flight deck on the carrier??? I’ve never heard of one person having that many positions before in the span of a few weeks.

This is the perfect sequel! It was worth every minute of the 36-year wait! The actors, the stories... everything was perfect! I was 11 when Top Gun (1986) came out. My Dad, who's a pilot, said I was too young to see it, so I made my cousin take me! LOL! I was praying one day they would get a sequel made. It couldn't have been better! My favorite line is at the end of the movie when Maverick thanks Rooster for saving his life, and Rooster says, "It's what my Dad would've done" ...just breaks me every time! Thanks for the awesome reaction, guys! Best of the best! Movie Trivia: At the beginning of the movie, Rooster pulls up to the bar, called The Hard Deck (perfect name for a pilot's bar), in a vintage, baby blue Chevy Bronco that actually belongs to Miles Teller! Tom saw it during auditions and wanted to put it in the movie! That was really Miles Teller playing the piano and singing in the bar! They even put it on the soundtrack! Miles plays drums in Whiplash (2014), such a great movie... and he also plays saxophone, flute, trumpet, and guitar! He's also a great dancer! He played Willard in the remake of Footloose (1984), in (2011)! So, so talented! Tom put together flight training for the new pilot actors, so they could work their way up to flying in the F-18s. He said it's the training he wishes he had before the first movie! The Navy also put all the actors through water rescue testing to ensure that if something happened over the water, they'd know what to do! Everyone had to pass before anyone could set foot in the jets. Monica Barbaro (Phoenix) is the only actor who wasn't puking on the daily flying in the jets... not once! She said being a ballet dancer helped her not to get dizzy while doing all the aerial maneuvers while flying. They didn't allow female pilots during the first movie, so including Phoenix in this cast was so special, and she held her own... even with that jack@$$, Hangman! I'd call her the MVP of this movie! She more than proved women are just as capable as men! During the beginning credits, it only refers to pilots as men. They changed that to read... Its purpose is to ensure that the handful of men and women who graduated were the best fighter pilots in the world! In the first movie, it was just a handful of men! Just a small change that changes everything! There's a lot of buzz for a Top Gun 3... maybe women pilots will be a bigger part of the next one! Thanks again! This reaction is one I will watch over and over again! Love it! ♥

fire12wife

I thought about that, too... guess it's just one of those liberties that movies take to make the story work! He appears to be more like Mavrick's assistant than anything else!

fire12wife

I think they had Hangman show up without warning was, yes, for dramatic effect... but Maverick and Rooster had yet to get in touch with the carrier, so how would they know Hangman was coming?!?! I just saw it as that Cyclone sent Hangman to provide air coverage, after Overwatch saw an F-14 Tomcat headed their way! They knew it was Maverick and Rooster!

Dean Holt

I think I’ve watched this five times now and I still really enjoy watching it. It was also one of the best cinema experiences I’ve ever had, the guy really knows how to make action movies you have to watch at the cinema. They also was no wasted second in the film it just took you on an incredible ride from beginning to end. That’s also this WW2 Mustang fighter plane he was flying at the end of the film. My only very small negative was them mentioning the F-14 fighters in the briefing before the mission. Because i then thought Maverick would get shot down so we could have the nostalgia moment with the F-14. Don’t get me wrong I love that he end up in that fighter jet, but I just wished they had reviled it after he was shot down.

Dean Holt

I’d suggest Bat*21 (1988) instead of Behind Enemy Lines. It’s basically the same story but done a lot better imo. But funny enough it actually has Gene Hackman in a t as well. but he’s the one that’s been shot down over Vietnam, Danny Glover also in it. Another movie I’d recommend that very underrated is Flight of the Intruder with Willem Dafoe.

Melissa Creel

Super easy, barely an inconvenience...

Jayson Phillips

Love this movie! I miss wearing the flight suit and being up in the air, but that's for the young guys now. They need to make a star wars fighter movie just like the way they made this one.

I love tom cruise movies they have the best cinematography and breathtaking moment but above all that is his charismatic performance he bring something to the character no matter which role he is playing in my books i have Tom Cruise and Keanu Reeves and Johnny deep all on top

Hadn't seen this one and it was an absolute treat watching it with you guys! I am fully with you, I think this might actually be the better movie. Ignoring the incredible aerial sequences, I think Maverick actually has a both a better story and better acting. Sure, we need the first one for this one to truly have impact and the relationships developed throughout the movie is ofc based on the relationships we already loved from the first film. But it feels more mature and more real. Very impressed by the whole feel of the movie. Also, I just want to add that the love story in this one feels less forced in. It works in the first movie quite well but in this one I feel there is more at stake even in the love interest (she has a kid, they have been through it before, he might die in this mission). The callbacks are great and I also agree with you guys that they show a lot of respect to Tony Scotts original vision. Excellent choice to watch this, thank you for bringing me along!

Top Gun is really a pretty simple story overall, just done exceedingly well. Maverick elevated everything beyond anything I could have imagined and easily joined the conversation that Godfather 2, Empire Strikes Back, and Terminator 2 have about sequels improving on the original. The in cockpit filming of the actors in the fighter jets was next level. We have the USS Midway museum here and they occasionally have movie nights and I have seen both Top Gun movies there... watching them while on the flight deck of an aircraft carrier is something I hope every fan gets to experience.
