MOAR POLITICS! But seriously, the allegiances ARE shifting very rapidly, because so many people have so many different interests - really everyone is on their own side. Fair commentary about it being a little exhausting due to the way it's convoluted and keeping you in holding, but at the same time we did get some big revelations in this one. The plantation and the idea that Thomas might still be alive for one. The independent slave revolt for another (yet more complications). Also, as much as I hate Billy for what he did at the plantation, I can't deny he made a lot of sense in his talk with John. Also, there's never enough of Anne being a badass.

I love that even though political alliances shift all the time, they make sense for the characters and not just to serve the plot. I also appreciate the writers acknowledging the intelligence of both the viewers and the characters. They know theres ppl out there who are holding out that no body = not confirmed dead for Thomas. So this episode we get a tease and a quick acknowledgement - one scene Max is telling John about a place where wealthy families got rid of difficult family members (and this is loosely based on history too) and the next scene John is talking about this hypothetically with Flint. Billy's conversation got under his skin more than he'd like.
