13 TIFF 2025 Premieres Most Likely to Feature Sex and Nudity (Patreon)

The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) will kick off on 5 September and run until 14 September. Each year, TIFF showcases some of the boldest films, often packed with nudity, sex, and at times, bizarre scenes that stir controversy.

I’ve selected thirteen movies based on their plots, directors, intimacy coordinators, and other sources that suggest they may feature striking sex or nudity.

So without wasting any time, let’s dive into the list.

The Fence (10 September)

Starring: Mia McKenna-BruceClaire Denis’s filmmaking consistently weaves sensuality, physicality, and nudity into themes of human connection and grief (High Life, Beau Travail). A story centered on a construction-site confrontation and buried secrets fits her style of exploring the body and emotion.

The Wizard of the Kremlin (5 September)

Starring: Alicia VikanderOlivier Assayas often uses nudity and sexual content to explore power dynamics and relationships (Personal Shopper). This political thriller’s focus on corruption and ambition could incorporate intimate affairs as part of the narrative.

Christy (5 September)

Starring: Sydney Sweeney, Katy O’BrianA biopic of boxer Christy Martin, covering her rise, abusive relationships, and struggles. Sports dramas often use intimacy to highlight vulnerability. Sydney Sweeney plays a lesbian role opposite Katy O’Brian, making romance scenes very likely.

Frankenstein (8 September)

Starring: Mia GothGuillermo del Toro’s gothic romances (The Shape of Water) lean heavily on sensuality. With Mia Goth—famous for X and Pearl—on board, the film could include explicit elements. It’s already rated R for bloody violence and grisly images.

Hamnet (7 September)

Starring: Jessie Buckley, Emily WatsonAdapted from Maggie O’Farrell’s novel, which depicts intimate moments between Shakespeare and his wife amid grief. With Chloé Zhao (Nomadland) directing, expect a sensitive yet bold approach to passion and relationships.

Silent Friend (8 September)

Starring: Léa Seydoux, Luna WedlerIldikó Enyedi (On Body and Soul) uses nudity and sensuality to explore the human condition. With its multi-era storylines of personal transformation, this film promises intimate themes.

Sound of Falling (7 September)

Starring: Hanna Heckt, Susanne Wuest, Luise Heyer, Lena UrzendowskySpanning generations of women dealing with trauma and violence on a farm, early reviews highlight its “sensual intensity.” Director Mascha Schilinski is likely to use nudity and sex to underline themes of vulnerability and survival.

Hedda (7 September)

Starring: Tessa Thompson, Imogen PootsNia DaCosta’s queer reimagining of Hedda Gabler focuses on passion, manipulation, and betrayal within a lesbian love triangle. Desire and power struggles make nudity and sex a natural fit. Rated R for sexual content and brief nudity.

Steal Away (5 September)

Starring: Angourie Rice, Mallori JohnsonA teenager forms a deep, obsessive bond with a refugee taken in by her family. As jealousy and desire build, the relationship spirals. Angourie Rice plays a lesbian role for the first time, and there’s speculation this could mark her nude debut.

Carolina Caroline (5 September)

Starring: Samara WeavingA young woman joins a con man on the run, combining crime with passion as they travel in search of her estranged mother. While the premise promises intensity, Samara Weaving has avoided nudity in recent years, so it remains uncertain.

Erupcja (4 September)

Starring: Charli XCX, Lena GóraThis sapphic romance follows the chemistry between a Polish florist and a British tourist. With Charli XCX playing a lesbian character, the film seems highly likely to feature nudity.

Modern Whore (5 September)

Starring: Andrea WerhunA documentary following Andrea Werhun as she revisits her past as an escort, stripper, and OnlyFans creator. Given its subject matter, expect a candid and potentially explicit portrayal of her sex work journey.

Fuck My Son! (11 September)

Starring: Tipper NewtonA mother kidnaps a young woman and forces her to have sex with her son. Based on Johnny Ryan’s adult comic book, this one promises bizarre and unsettling scenes.

Final Thoughts

This year’s TIFF lineup includes several titles that could feature explicit sex or nudity, but keep in mind this list is speculative. I selected these films based on directors, themes, and source material, not confirmed content. Once the festival wraps, we’ll know exactly which titles delivered.

Stay tuned—I’ll be posting updates on which films actually include nudity and sex once they premiere.
