“PEOPLES DREAMS NEVER END!” Such a goated scene. that bar scene with “pie guy” and his speech about dreams and why pirates need to keep that ideology of dreams alive contrast to pirates like bellamy is still one of my favorite scenes to this day. the way they show you the people around luffy and the dude laughing at them for having dreams and goals that seem unrealistic is very real. I also like how the npcs laughing at them are shaded out in that one shot, it shows that they dont care or pay attention to what anyone thinks of them or what dreams they have. There are also many other reasons why this scene is goated but don’t want to spoil anything thats way later in the story.

I feel like this scene was great for defining Luffy's character. Zoro didn't fight because his captain ordered him not to. Luffy didn't fight because these people weren't even worth it especially when he heard Bellamy say the era of dreams is over and Luffy unclenches his fist. He learned from Shanks that some fights weren't even worth it Bellamy didn't pose any real threat to Luffy, his crew, or his goal of being pirate king so there wasn't any point in fighting.

When I watched this for the first time, I thought it was a cool scene here and there. Now that I've caught up with the anime and manga, I cannot fathom how a single person wrote all of this, and planned everything for 28 years. The video titled "The breathtaking world of One Piece" is definitely correctly titled. People who watch it for the first time think it's the visuals and scale of the world that is breathtaking. If these people ever catch up to the latest chapters, they all unanimously conclude that the visuals and scale of the world have absolutely NOTHING on the story of One Piece.

17:50, you can see luffy changes his tune when Bellamy says it's a test not a fight. Meaning it wasn't a fight of anything on the line like luffy usually engages in. So bellamy wasn't worth attacking as he just wanted to see if luffy was worthy of his standards and luffy didn't give an f about that. That’s what I got from it anyway.

I view it more as: she had accepted death, so now that she was forced to live she's allowing herself to just live with the crew in a carefree new life. As she said she's given up on her dream and that's why she wanted to die, Alabasta was her last lead. Basically like she's a new person without the worries of her past self and just letting Luffy guide her life while being more passive. She told them she always worked alone and used others as cover while she traveled. This is the first time she's just letting herself live a carefree life

What I love about One Piece is you can watch an episode, and things in that episode can give you payoff next episode, and also in 50 episodes, and also in 500 episodes. There's so much interactivity in the world and it's details and I think that's what makes me love it so much, but also what makes the rewatches so enjoyable. I think that's also why people hit a point in the show where they become a much bigger One Piece fan if they continue on long enough, because you get to some moment where suddenly you see things all connecting in a way that really excites you and it's not just a bunch of episodes but truly a world of One Piece.

As I understand it, Jaya isn't the peak arc, but it introduces some important lore that plays a role in the grand scheme of things. It's similar to how Naruto introduced Itachi—while it wasn't the peak moment, it was certainly something that people that watch you react look forward to. So that is probably why people like it so much and call it peak

This episode reminded me of a question someone asked Oda once. The question was: Why doesn't Luffy kill his villains after defeating them. Oda response was: When Luffy defeats his villains, he destroys their dreams in the process. And to Luffy being forced to give up on your dreams is a fate far worse than death. There is no need to kill them as someone without a dream is not truly alive in Luffy's eyes. In the same sense there was no need to fight Bellamy because he has no dream. And teach also understood this saying that Luffy won the fight because he was the only one that emerged with his dreams intact.

Not realistic. As much as I would like them to do more episodes drops of just One Piece to speed up their progress with the overall plot and arrival of peak arcs, everyone who thinks they should do more one piece weekly needs to consider they are juggling other show releases, editing these raw drops, and personal/other-work lives. If this Patreon was only just One Piece maybe there's an argument for them to listen to the demand, but assuming this Patreon is just a side-gig I cannot see them ever committing to more than 4 a week, as much as I and other fans would love that

Good plot foundation for future arcs and high retrospective value, but in terms of first watch impressions and hype factor it is not top 5 worthy imo

Judging any arc for its pacing is really weird, I'm surprised if someone does this. For example, DR is known for its awful pacing, but it doesn't change the fact that arc is goated and extremely important. Honestly, I lowkey disrespect fans who constantly complain about pacing too seriously. This show has been releasing WEEKLY for 25 years, and Toei Animation is the team making that happen. Chances are, these same people fell in love with the show because of Toei’s work cause a lot of people don't read the manga. Now they turned into Oda glazers and criticize Toei for anime pacing. Feels pretty ungrateful to me.

This is fair. I have no intention disrespecting long term anime fans. But to clarify, I never had that 25 year journey. I binged the manga in 3-months. Continuing my comment villain arc until I am reprimanded by a Gek. Any deduction to enjoyment that is clearly observable from the Geks is from pacing issues. They clearly want episodes with substance. The comments I've seen have not actually spoiled any plot points and I've read every single one here for this episode. I am definitely in a very bad position as a commenter at the moment given my slip up, but people here are too quick to call something a spoiler

I'll admit, second to poor writing poor pacing really takes me out but that being said I definitely take it seriously, pay attention and really like it! After alabasta objectively for me it went down a little bit even though it had great peaks but im super excited for this arc

It is the only anime out of the Big 3 that's not ongoing, and it's arguably still the most popular anime out of those 3. It's been over a decade since it ended, and if it was that forgettable, it wouldn't be mentioned as the most popular anime in the world alongside DB. By the way, I've never seen a Naruto fan leave a comment like that under Gek's One Piece reactions, only the opposite, so please stop doing that, as it prolongs the rivalry narrative and leaves a bad impression on OP fans. (And by the way, most of them love Naruto, they just love OP more).

I'm sure you guys knowing Nico Robin was going to join the crew had nothing to do with getting spoiled... Spoiler is anything that might reduce surprise or suspense for a first time viewer. They might not be giving a detailed summary of the plot but they sure as hell are using their future knowledge of events to pass on their understanding of characters, motivations, and exaggerate any clues left by the author.

If it was only one person, I wouldn't be so annoyed, but it's damn near every other person. They don't say anything about it so people keep doing it. Slim chance it has no effect on their enjoyment of the show (though they will say it doesn't), but it definitely affects my enjoyment of the reactions. I'm here to see first time viewers react to a show I love, but if it's not Jack (who has seen the show btw) talking the whole time, its a bunch of people in the comment section spoiling.

If the Nico Robin thing was genuinely spoiled because of Patron comments and not Youtube/Discord/misc. socials, I redact my takes. I do not keep up with all the comments of all these posts and was not aware of that or any other similar notable cases from what ive personally seen on Patreon. If this was covered by the Geks before in a video I also apologize because I have goldfish memory for most things not nerd lore related. And I like nerding about One Piece. I was just hit with a reply from a Gek that definitely feels like palpable irony and am feeling shame. If I'm reading too deep into it, consider this a public self shaming for atonement. I do not doubt you and fully agree that name dropping an arcs name in the comments before anything about it is mentioned in the show is not right. I gave exceptions to acronyms and innuendos of things that happened in the episode being commented on, but I will not do so moving forward. And I see your point in comments that don't explicitly tell but build up a pattern that easily points to a conclusion being a negative outcome for first impressions. I cannot recall but also did not consider the Robin glazers were giving it away. But I am still a little stubborn and believe if I say the triangle is peak, it's not really a spoiler. Jaya is good because it’s very short and I think it’s the best transition arc. But idk how it can be top 5 compared to longer arcs 😓 wci, id, mf, dr, eh, w, w7, el, sabaody - what arcs from this list are worse than jaya in your opinion? ;(

It’s not about being better or worst, that’s why I specified it as my 5th *favourite* in my original comment. It just hit deep and positively with me in many ways, I wasn’t thinking about what was better than the others, just what I liked most. I may explain my reasoning for it at the end of the arc when I’m able to do it properly without spoiling. If not, ask me again after that and I’ll tell you. But just to give you something, the themes explored in this arc is a big part, this is definitely a hindsight ranking for me though, that developed over many years of consuming one piece and my own growth as a person. But the arc always resonated with me from the very first watch.
