Jiraiya seeing himself as a failure in his final moments has always been so heartbreaking to me. He spent his entire life chasing the prophecy, dedicating himself to finding someone who would bring peace. That was his ultimate goal, yet he believed he had failed—just as he had failed to save his teacher, Minato, and Orochimaru. What always makes me cry is the sudden shift when, while listing all his failures, he remembers Minato telling him something completely different from what he had always believed—that he was a great ninja, a huge inspiration, and that his determination to never give up had inspired him to name Naruto after the character in Jiraiya’s book. That’s when Jiraiya remembers Naruto and realizes that he had already fulfilled the prophecy. But the part that gets me the most is when, despite his heart stopping, he gets back up because— to never give up, Naruto, if that's truly your ninja way, then as your teacher, I have no business whining, because everyone knows that a student inherits his ninja way from his teacher. 😭😭

The funny thing is, I got completely spoiled for Jiraiya’s death, even though it was pretty obvious he was going to die. Before I even started watching Naruto, my bf and his friends were trying to convince me to give it a chance, and he showed me the Samidare(Early Summer Rain) remix on YouTube. That’s the song that plays when Jiraiya is dying and remembering Naruto. The entire remix was filled with scenes from his fight, and since I didn’t want to watch it, my boyfriend explained to me that it was Naruto’s sensei who got killed by his students. I was fascinated and weired out at the same time 😭🤣

Small fact about the other 4 Pain members. Other than Yahiko and the guy Jiraiya noticed he has met in the past; Jiraiya has indeed interacted with them in the flashback. The bald one is the same guy who had the baby puppet, 2 of them he talked with in a restaurant, and the final one was preaching to a group. Most people don't really make that connection on their first or repeated watches.

I was literally sobbing when I first saw these eps. I just really loved Jiraiya’s character and it hurt so bad that it ended like this. Naruto’s mentor, his godfather. I wished for Jiraiya to live but he died like a true hero and was able to figure out how Pain works. I felt so sorry for Naruto. 😭

If you look at it from a military point of view, his death is even worse than you might think at first. Jiraiya is by far the strongest ninja from Konoha - Ninjutsu, Taijutsu, even Genjutsu - he masters all these techniques at the highest level. And unlike Kakashi, he has an enormous amount of chakra and defeated 3 Pain with zero information while his opponent knew almost everything about him. Apart from the emotional side, Jiraiya's death is a disaster for Konoha.

I just want to point out that Yes you will see sasuke backstory a loooot, but every time they show it they give you a new detail, and wanted to point out that the japanese actually kind of give more to the story, as if you notice Itachi always used an honorific San when speaking to Kakashi I can go on even thought it's literally spoken Japanese but it can get a bit spoilery

Also in a ninja world where corpses are very valuable to other villages, and dangerous to leave behind (as we saw with the anbu that destroyed their body on death, and the mention in the OG series of the Hidden Cloud Village wanting the body of a Hyuga clan member for their eyes), you would think Jiraiya would be a bit more thorough than just leaving three corpses with the Rinnegan behind. Would have made way more sense for him to have sealed the corpses and sent them back to the Leaf when he thought they were dead. Or even just destroyed the corpses completely because the Rinnegan is too dangerous for anyone to have.

But we saw Pain just casually pull the swords out of them. Jiraiya was surprised they were alive again, he was not surprised about the swords being removed, as if they were supposed to be difficult to remove in some way. More so it's just that anime trope of "hey this enemy is super strong and has weird powers, once we think we beat them we'll just turn our backs and not bother to be thorough or cautious OH NO THEY'RE BACK".

I'm always surprised to hear when people say this - when it comes to Naruto reactions at least - I think Jack has the best recall amongst the geks - even sometimes better than Brig & Mckay - he always announces his questions out loud whenever they come to mind so it might seem as if he forgets a lot of things but most of them are clarifying questions /or questions that the other geks also can't remember

lmao at 9:00 min flat Carter makes a whole act of getting up front and center and getting some water and not looking at the dialogue. Just sighing and acting as disinterested as possible. Brig notices as usual but hes really good at brushing it off after things like this have happened in ALL of the naruto watch. Hats off to Brig I feel the pain of wanting someone to love this show and seeing them over analyze it and not like it for the wrong reasons lowkey. Carters blatant and seemingly forced hatred for this show makes the reactions hard to watch. There's just this more negative vibe in this series that is unenjoyable but oh well... maybe the upcoming Pain arc will be too good to not have a great reaction for.

nah but like 1:23:30 never seen someone try to forcibly not be impressed by the cut to Itachi in the chair. Even Sasuke appearing on the ceiling above him and seeing Itachi's eyes widen. The FIRST time in all of Naruto that you see Itachi "pressed". Its so perfect because it shows Sasukes process while still showing Itachi was a step ahead as always. But remember, just because Itachi was gauging him here with a clone doesn't mean that clones reaction wasnt real. Itachi still didnt predict to lose that clone there which makes this entire scene just so unreal. Anyway... I dont get how the whole room isnt going crazy during these parts like all other shows with moments not even half as sick. Flashy animation in a solo leveling clip makes Carter lose his mind yet not something so thought through and built up and unbelievably layered in writing as these scenes between itachi and sasuke

46:35 I don’t believe the two frogs would’ve been able to do that Genjitsu again, their throats were messed up a bit. That one Genjitsu was the only reason he no diffed them, and even if the frogs could use it again, it took a long time for it to go into affect. In totality, jiraiya is unfortunately no diffed. If he somehow got all 6 pains with that one cast of the jutsu, he would’ve won. But he didn’t have enough information :/
