Next Season IS GOING TO BE PEAK

Matthew Valentine

It was pretty clean. I think we might see more popular manhwa get adapted after these 2 seasons did so well

Ikky

I read the Manhwa years ago, and this season exceeded my expectations, 10/10!

stako

uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhgggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg

stako

mfs sacrified Jack and Mckay for Brig 😭

eiden

Allaaaan I need some help

dylan

lol

Judy

Mckay's been talking about a sword/bigger weapon since forever ago and he missed the episode SJW uses a sword..

Dj Pancakes

Other than a few skipped parts from the Manhwa & downplay of Hunter Cha I give this season a solid A+

Matthew Valentine

i think it is madara's voice but i know thats askellad too

ggr

I think the ratings are inflated due to hype,i mean was the last episode really on par with something like 131 or 126 hxh which are also 9.8s?

Pudding

Interesting, in the manhwa, the shadow extraction for Byung-gu actually failed 2 times and Jinwoo thought, I quote "Maybe it's not working because he feels strongly opposed to becoming a shadow soldier. I guess he thinks it's immoral to turn a human being into one". But it succeeded on the 3rd try, after Jinwoo thought "I have to save the person who is still alive."

Amare D.

W solo leveling bro I can't wait for one piece to return peak is going to happen on this current arc

Brig Andrus

Y’all agree with our takes on this or nah?

Brig Andrus

I guess comparing it to 131 is hard bc that’s literally the pinnacle of anime 😂

Shadow

Peak leveling

Vincent

We just witnessed a glimpse of China’s national rank power😭

Icchi

Easy 9-9.5… only cuz certain scenes could’ve been dragged more, like him and his mom’s backstory

Jonas Teigen

Season 2 had really good action and animation, but story and characters are mid tbh. 8/10 for me

Shadow

Such a good adaptation. They are cooking with some of the added stuff like with cha. They have added in some emotion. And this is really the end of part 1. The next chapter to get adapted is titled “Turning Point” and that’s really what next season will be. A lot of questions will be answered and added. U get to explore a lot more of the world as well.

Kite

I agree with everything you said but it would be more of a 7/10 for me, good animation isn't enough for me to give it an 8

Pudding

The Jinwoo sword at 7:06 is "Demon King's Longsword" , the one initially used by Demon King (or Monarch as they say in thr anime) Baran. Stats: attack +350 and has the effect "Storm of White flames" (summon a storm of endless lightning within a certain area)

Zipzzty

They have already started after season 1 With TBATE but sadly tbate anime doesn’t look that promising

Hector

Yesssss, it's better in hindsight 🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️

Shadow

If you have loved solo leveling u will only love it way more next season and if u have just been enjoying it u might start to really love it.

Zipzzty

Yes good takes

Zipzzty

Only gets crazier and crazier from here on

ggr

Yeah 131 is a 9.8 that should really be a 10 and SL 12 is more like a very solid 9.6 for me

Jonas Teigen

yea true, was thinking of rating it lower

Zipzzty

😭😭

EightNights

Yea, it's a 7 for me too. Probably lower if not for Sawano

Spideycain

The guy with two swords from china

Zipzzty

Rating Wise it is up there with the goats but for me it doesn’t even get close to HxH Or Aot Season 3 and 4

cozo

Season 3 will be peak.. the plot will continue to thicken

Amare D.

oh, mb you were talking about the all the takes yeah but I bump solo leveling down to an 8

Cannon Andrus

Amare D the end of the video😂

Shadow

The name “Beru” comes from the name of a famous author who wrote Empire of the Ants. Which is a science fiction novel by Bernard Werber published in 1991. jinwoo a big reader ig lol

Jimmy

Season 2 Review: 9/10 - Great adrenaline rush - Cant go higher than that I have no emotional investment in anyone - No Plot just an entertaining series - Can never be higher than a 9 for me but it executes at what it does best very well

cozo

When they said Thomas Andre had the power of a nation that was basically how they ranked him compared to an S-Rank, he'd be considered a National Rank hunter. The mana ratings can't detect the specific amount of mana a hunter has if they're S rank or anywhere above S rank so that's why there isn't more ranks

Marcus D

A roller coaster of emotions is about to begin lol

Golden Pants

Eh. Normally I'd agree that good animation only deserves like a 7. But this show has pretty consistently incredible animation, so I'd say an 8 is fair. Especially because the concept is really good. But yeah the story and characters are bland enough that I could see a 7. Guess its just preference.

Shadow

In the manwha Jinwoo arises the queen but it weakens his command over the other ants so Beru told him to release her. And she’s is more built for laying eggs rather then combat. Not really that important but

Juan Avila

I feel like season 2 for what it is, it’s good. I’ll give it a 8.8 but comparing to some aot or Naruto arcs, the writing imo lacks and I’m a huge fan of it. There is writing but it’s mediocre so far. I still love season 2 and think everything is amazing besides the writing. I mean I really only care about the main character that’s it. The fights are one of the best visually ever, but I really don’t care about it, kinda like sukana vs mahoraga, it was so out of nowhere with no emotion behind it, just a masterpiece spectacle. Which is good but person I love fights that look good and have a lot of meaning behind it, not saying sukana vs mahoraga or this is bad, I just can’t put it above others. The only emotion I got from season 2 was hype, which is good but nothing else besides him reviving his mom, that is what I love. Not saying I don’t like hype, but the Naruto vs pain and a lot more has a lot of hype, and a lot of meaning behind it. It wasn’t just a random person who is extremely strong and the visuals are cool, it has a lot of depth. Saitama vs boros is a masterpiece animation wise, and boros is cool with the little time he was in it, but I really did not care about him kinda like beru. But I like how he’s apart of the army and can talk, so hopefully we start to like him more. And I’m not hating, I glaze season 2 of jjk and solo leveling, the animations are masterpieces, but I really don’t care about who’s fighting, besides some. Demon slayer fights have more behind them than jjk fights but I put jjk fights over those, i just can’t put those jjk fights over some of the best of the best. Meruem vs netero looks good and has a lot behind it, but personally I put sukana vs mahoraga over it. So just to say I’m not hating, but compared to the BEST OF THE BEST, I can’t objectively put it over those. So objectively season 2 is like a 8.5 for me but I personally will give it a 8.8 which is still really high. I’m extremely excited for season 3 and hopefully I care about more characters since I never read the manwa. (Sorry for the typos if there is any, I wrote it kinda fast and probably missed some points, so tell me what you disagree with and what I missed to talk about😊)

kai

my fucking goat liu zhigang is finally here

kai

i’ll give this season a 8.5 though it was definitely an improvement from season 1 and pretty good compared to the manga cause i just flew through this arc fast asf

jrnoodles

Thanks Andrus! We got some nice characters introduction in that last episode.

Kite

yea it's just my opinion, it's still a fun watch, specially because of the geks reactions

EightNights

It's really hard for me to understand the 9-9,5 ratings, not even trying to hate on a popular show for no reason. There is no denying the amazing animation and action but that's literally it. If we have to compare than there are shonens out there that have all of these things and than some. Jjk has better fighting scenes and characters, Naruto has better choreography and Chimera ant arc blows everything else out of the water. Dunno maybe a i'm getting old lol but this show gave me zero emotions except for when Sawano kicks in so just for that I'll give it a 7.

cristina

same, i liked this season a lot and the fights were amazing but i can't consider it as the same level as hxh, aot or vinland (as far as we have watched). imo it still lacks in the plot and characters but maybe that gets better next seasons. without comparising, it was good and surprised me because when i watched s1 i got bored a little ngl and s2 exceeded my expectations

Ronald Bohne

Enjoyment: 15/10, Rating: 8.9/10, Seasons 3 onward are bound to be much better based on the source material. Just like AOT, S1 and S2 are really just the prologue.

Ante

S1E1-3: Solo Suffering Mid S1: Solo Struggling End S1: Solo Levelling All S2: Solo Humbling What can I say, this show has been a blast to watch. If I could give it one critisicm it would be that it feels like lost potential to have Jinwoo outpace the S-Ranks so quickly. The way they were set up in S1, some interesting storylines could have come out of Jinwoo being around or below their level for a while. Solid 9.1

Iris

To put into perspective the guy that wiped the ants is a National Level Hunter from China and is stronger than current Jinwoo

Vinny Deluca

Unfortunately they cut a lot of the emotion, characterization and drive from both S1/S2 to make it fit in the timeframe they had. They made the anime lean heavier into the power fantasy side of things than the Manhwa did. Not that it isnt one of those shows, it is, anime just even moreso. This is also just the prologue story wise tho

Jorsk3n

I mean... as far as personal enjoyment goes, it's a 10/10 (and the numbers don't lie, A LOT of people also enjoyed it immensily).... but you might just not enjoy power fantasies). However, as you said, it's not even close to perfect, and technically speaking, it's not even shonen. so idk why you're comparing it to those, as it's a korean story, that was adapted to manhwa format, and then to this anime. The only thing it's lacking in, is the story department. Storywise, it's mid to decent. But IT DIDN'T try to do anything else. Everything else, is excellent.

Shadow

The S ranks aren’t underpowered Jinwoo is just now a national level hunter like the American and Chinese dudes. Basically a one man army.

Brig Andrus

And how is someone who’s only seen the show supposed to know this?

Shadow

I’m not saying u should know it clearly like that atp. But they have use the word nation/country a few times with the the other 2 and jinwoo has been described by muipltle people to have capabilities beyond that of s ranks. They have all been described in a different light. The label hasn’t been in ur face a bunch so I was just giving context.

Brig Andrus

I’m starting to realize most things are better in hindsight😭

Shadow

There’s more context but not gonna spoil anything. The higher tiers will be explained more clear as story progress.

Iris

They mentioned the capabilities of a National Level Hunter when they introduced Thomas Andre a few episodes ago. Its just assumed that SJW is nearing or at that level by now, not that its stated anywhere

Iris

At least in a 1v1 scenario; I'll say its up for debate with all his shadows

Koinu

Without spoiling anything, I just can’t wait to see more of Beru… he’s my favorite character by far 😭

Mr.Flakes3

No spoilers ahead. I was always wondering how or where they where gonna leave off season 2. And honestly I'm glad they did what they did. It leaves up so many questions of what is to come. I honestly think it was a good spot to stop off.

Rosa

13:40 the anime is fond of skipping the small details so uh the answer is China. Ships from South Korea and Japan, but also China and Taiwan were deployed before the Jeju raid started in preparation for whatever the hell would go down. We did end up getting a pov from the Chinese ships twice. One of them was skipped (wouldve happened before Beru got to Goto) where the captain of the ship basically guessed the motive of Japan for aiding in the Jeju raid & kinda called Goto fodder compared to a certain Chinese hunter by the name of Liu Zhigang. The other pov was the one in this episode.

Dale Tucker

Shit narrative, cardboard characters, fun action. Like a Jason Statham movie if I think about it

Mr.Flakes3

I feel like solo leveling is gonna be like Haikyuu for me where every season is gonna be better than the last.

Ben Everest

The boys were cooking at the end

cozo

i'd agree if you were talking about season 1 but season 2 expanded the plot and characters a ton, i mean it's not something we've never seen before but i don't think the show is entirely lacking when it comes to those things as much as people make it seem

Brig Andrus

I’m excited for the next season!!

JAN NARUTO

Moon’s comments 10/10

Brig Andrus

Okay now I agree! Jinwoo is just so OP with his army lol.

Mr.Flakes3

I feel like the studio is kinda the reason for some of the hate on some of the characters. They cut out a fair amount of small things that I feel like would have helped grow some of the characters.

Mr. John Kagurabachi

If AoT is a 9.6, Solo leveling is a 8.5 IMO. Shouldn’t be hitting the 9s

alex anderson

Going into season 1 I was watching it blind, which I enjoyed so much that it immediately made me want to read the manwha, so as far as an enjoyment and hype scale, for me season 1 is higher. I also didn’t think they were going to go so fast as to finish jeju island in season 2. I thought it would’ve ended at the demon castle with jinwoo waking up his mom. Overall I think the show was just good, beings that now I’m not being drawn in by hype. Animation was great though. You guys touched on this but my only annoyance with season 2, and this just might be hindsight kicking in, is that by the end of this as far as power scaling goes it feels like it’s just jinwoo, and then the rest. With the manwha I didn’t really care, but with the anime trying to shed more light on different characters besides the main, and this being a rewatch basically so I’m thinking with my brain more, I thought they would do a bit better by making it look like they aren’t just fodder, cause they really arent. I understand this is a power fantasy, but with no context about the Chinese guy, you can basically put him and Choi on the same level since they both took down red ants easily. Overall I just wish they did a better job of clearly showing the scales between protagonists when comparing themselves to jinwoo, not just the protagonists being compared against the enemies. I think the next season will do a bit better if I remember, but it’s more annoying to me for this show that is trying to be more serious than something like one punch man, which to me is almost more a comedic gag. (I haven’t read the manga). This could also just mean power fantasy animes aren't my thing, but I still think it’s worth noting. Overall, good season.

Diable Jambe Flores

I enjoy Solo Leveling and I had tons of fun watching season 2. So many cool moments. With that being said I struggle with elevating to the heights of all time great seasons or anime’s. For as good as it is I still put other series above it. I think the hype is making it overvalued to some degree. Again I really enjoyed it and I read the manwha already too. I just can’t put it on the same level as some of my favorite all timers.

Sam TV

Maybe chill on the minor spoilers

Vextipher

I feel this season was decent, but Jeju Island was something propped up since the beginning of the show and fell a bit flat in execution. Then we get some extra stuff on the last episode that doesn't amount to much yet. This show is like the post-nut clarity for animation; it was great when it was happening but now that it's done what else is there to it?

MissJodles

For me Solo Levelling is mindless fun. I’ve read the full comic so I’m not as hyped or surprised as a new viewer for everything that happens, and I think the anime adaption does a good job. But like some others say, Solo Levelling has very flat characters, not a particularly complex or interesting plot, hardly any development other than the MC getting stronger, and is mostly here just for the action and the hype of a power-fantasy (which doesn’t appeal to me as much as a trope/genre compared to some people, I’m kind of an Isekai hater). But it’s fun! I watch it just for entertainment and S2 is better than S1. That’s about it. If S3 never came out I honestly can’t say I would be that bothered about it 😅 I’d rate it a 7.5/10 compared to most anime I’ve ever seen. Things like AoT/Haikyuu/Mob Psycho/HxH and even Naruto\JJK rank much much higher for me because I enjoy character development and deeper plot a lot more than mindless action for action’s sake, and even the slice of life elements in SL are lacking. All that said though, I still sit down and watch it because it’s fun TV! I’m just a harsh analyst 😈

Daniella

(Holy yap) As someone who's read the manhwa, because i know the story and what's to come what i look forward to most is the animation and how A1-pictures develops the story. My biggest gripe (and it's a small one) is the pacing, like certain details were left out to get to jeju, which i think would elevate the story just a tiny bit more but i also get A1 have a certain timeframe and not everything can be included. Jinwoo vs Beru was definitely the highlight of S2 BUT on a personal level i really love the fight between Igris and Jinwoo, i think i just love how much he struggles and hand drawn sequence of him defeating Igris gives me bigger chills than his no diff against Beru idk. There's nothing wrong with hyping solo levelling, i've noticed especially with anime simple stories but amazing animation (e.g.Demon Slayer) are hated on because they don't explore deeper themes like Vinland or AOT and are mostly action but to me they're still amazing in their own right. Would i compare this show to s3 or 4 of AOT?? hell to the no respectfully. But it's popular for a reason lol. There are bigger peaks to come of course :)

hugoruix

Finally adding some plot lmao

Shadow

Excited for y’all’s reactions🫡

Earthshatter

I think solo leveling it's the best at what it does but it lacks depth in many aspects of the show. So u personally wouldn't put it up there with the best animes. In my opinion it's overrated

Mr. John Kagurabachi

Tbh I think it deserves a 8.2. It’s a 10/10 entertainment IMO but there’s no theme, character story, or plot

alex anderson

To further enforce my complaint, I feel like jjk does a much better job of clearly showing the differences in power between characters, both protagonists and antagonists (I’ve also not read this manga). But I will say it’s probably an unfair comparison since the animes are different genres in their own right.

MissJodles

I’m on your side man, not hating at all because I’ve read the entire comic and enjoy it. But it’s a 7.5-8 for me, and enjoyment rating is probably about the same. I don’t think the show is bad or anything, but it lacks a lot of the heart and character development that makes other action anime so special. I agree that it’s maybe because I’ve seen SO many shows compared to the Geks and other viewers so maybe it’s not living up the standards of what I think constitutes a 9 or 10 rating on a show. Being so well-versed in good animation/choreography/power systems/stories makes a lot of the lacking points in this show stick out to me more. I can’t hate on people for enjoying it for the fun action and power-fantasy, but it’s not like it’s deep or anything! It’s a decent, fun and well-adapted show, has "aura" and cool moments. That’s about it for me!

kiiturii

SL is super over rated, there's no way it hits even a 9, it shouldn't even be compared to aot. Yea s2 was way better than s1, but it's not that crazy compared to other high rated anime. SL is fun to watch, I enjoyed it a lot, but that's it, there's nothing more than that It's honestly kinda like sword art online, And I believe we will also see a drop in ratings just like we saw with sao

Dinesh

That actual plot of solo leveling was partially revealed in S2. It'll probably be revealed in S3. Jeju arc lived up to the hype and was adapted extremelyyy well, in some places even better than the manhwa. It is obviously not a complicated storyline up until this point, just pure fun.

Enma

Brig which would you rather rewatch for the first time again, this or Demon Slayer? Btw I recommend reading the manwha up to this point, because they do cut out a lot of small stuff like more details of the system and character stuff, etc.

MissJodles

Completely agree, and compared to JJK/Mob Psycho/AoT and even some Naruto fights I actually don’t think the animation (in terms of choreography/clear movement) is that "good", it’s just clean and well visualised. It’s a 7.5 show for me.

WhynefineT

My main criticism is the mom. She was build up to be awake from the beginning but after that no sort of relevancy, just a mindless character, no influence on jinwoo or whatever. The writing isn't all that great but it was fun.

MissJodles

I’d rate SL much lower than your other shows, 7-8 for me whereas AoT/Haikyuu/Mob/Vinland/FMA all rank 9-10. Hype and "aura" never overtakes plot and development for me.

Dinesh

Power scaling was even worse in the manhwa. They altleast show jinwoo struggling in the anime. In manhwa, he was no diffing everyone including beru. I think it is pretty clear that SJW has become a national rank hunter by the end of jeju arc. There is only few in the world who could compare to him like Liu and Thomas Andre. So there is no way to establish the power structure without obliteration the adaptation of manhwa.

Aegean

All in all PEAK anime 🔥🔥🔥 it missed alittle from the manhwa but nothing really important at the end. Jinwoo the GOAT 🔥🔥🔥

MissJodles

This is what I’m happy about with SL, it’s cool to see a Korean manhwa get so popular and I hope it means more get adapted in the future with the Japanese animation industry :)

WhynefineT

Canon's first mistake is taking tiktok comments serious lmfao. They're all bunch of 12 year olds. They hate attack on titan and arcane as well they just hate anything popular to stand out.

MissJodles

While I’m on the topic of shows I think you guys would really enjoy (I was a Haikyuu/Mob voter so TRUST me on this one guys): Dororo 2019. One single season, so would be easy on your guys’ schedule. Absolute cinema.

Dinesh

Only thing I can say without spoiling is that the main overarching storyline of solo leveling is yet to be fully revealed. It was hinted at throughout the show but nothing concrete is yet revealed.

Wickerx Nanana

Kind of rushed finale episode, I recommend you guys go finish it up with the manhwa. Honestly a lot of small details were skipped. Anyway solid finale overall, season 3 will be even crazier with more aura farm for Jinwoo. Guys you can expect a lot of things to be revealed and the story finally unfolding to a larger scale, it's gonna be even more hype!!! Waiting for that GM shadow arrival iykyk.

MissJodles

It’s 7-8 for me, not anything close to the best of the best.

Yuion

Every manhwa reader said right from the start that solo leveling doesnt have a well written story or ultra deep characters. It lives off its hype moments and for what it is, its fucking awesome.

notchrisramirez

The closest comparison I can think of is S2 of JJK.

Yuion

I tend to call them anti mainstreamers. Whatever is mainstream, they will hate it just because it is mainstream no matter how good or bad it is. They are pathetic losers who are just as much a slave to the mainstream as people who religiously follow the mainstream: No real opinion

kai

i kinda agree but its not gone fall off like SAO

WhynefineT

Yeah pretty much. They also think that newer releases cannot be better than old shows such as big 3. ironic considering they weren't even born when it was releasing.

Yuion

The writing is subpar but every manwha reader already knows this. Its not that kind of show.

Jezza

When he turns lvl 100, pause on the singe frame Glitch. I CANT WAITTTT

Yuion

For a lot of people this was the gateway drug to manhwa. Sure the writing is not great but its a really fun series to read and now watch

Judy

For anyone who wants to read the Manhwa: read from chapter 111

Yuion

Totally fair. If we look at the whole package it lacks depth. Even in the ln which is much more descriptive (especially the saliva swallowing (if you know you know xD)) it lacked depth. Though if i had to rate it purely for the fun while watching its ez a 9.5

Wickerx Nanana

Ofc SL can't compete with the goats, but even so SL in its own right is a great show with very enjoyable and peak moments!! But yeah the story and characters are kinda mid.

hugoruix

I guess so. But at least now there is hints of a plot 😂 before it was just aura farming

Mahti

The anime was paced too fast knowing the manwha, amazingly animated fights but it kinda missed the nerding over all his abilities, stats and item specs which was a huge part why I liked the manwha. Here you can't really even tell what abilities he's using majority of the time and a lot of the skills are never explained. I'd rate it around 7.5/10. The show is a bit overhyped imo but a really fun watch for when you just want to turn your brain off, I'd rate the manwha higher around 8.2/10

hugoruix

Solo leveling is hype. Attack on titan is memorable

CoLdBITeR

The couch looks so empty with two missing. Makes the lads look smaller.

Tom

The writing in all ways is super mid, put the action and power fantasy is great, perfect popcorn show, 6/10 enjoyed it a lot.

Mahti

7-8 for me too, manwha itself would be around 8.2

Qhoa

W

Mahti

the anime kinda missed on the personality of the manwha being like a gamers dream nerding over all the abilities stats and strategies involved

GreetswithJudgement

It’s a solid 8/10 and it could be lower. It is as generic as it gets. The story isn’t at all fantastic, the characters look and seem cool, with no personality. That’s always going to be a problem. This show is everything (if you’re an anime fan) you’ve seen before but it is enjoyable. I can see why people will enjoy it and rate it high. Being a long term anime fan, if you’re in the community you know that anime in general gets rated high for the most part as fans take more liberties with it. They are more passionate about these shows where they live and breathe it. Not a bad thing but it can interfere with true judgment. And if you’re not an anime fan and are starting to watch more anime I can see why SL would be glazed and considered peak for its animation and its action. It deserves it! All media does something better and poorer than each other. If you’re a shonen action fan you’re going to prefer to rate this high no matter the plot. If that is all it is meant to be, so be it, It’s a 9. But if we’re rating it as an overall show, it’s not a 9 and it’s not close. It doesn’t belong next to the best of the best but that’s just coming from me, a stickler of entertainment. However I was entertained, so it deserves an 8 rating which isn’t bad.

Wickerx Nanana

I'll say it again, you guys hating on SL anime being overrated. Yeah sure it can't compete with goats like OP, Naruto, Bleach and AOT, but it is still a very enjoyable show. It even broke a few records and that speaks for itself. Anyway the anime skipping a bunch of small details throughout each episode doesn't make the SL anime its justice either Imo. If you go and read the manhwa with epic 1h SL music in the background, you'll have the time of your life. SL manhwa is Imo so much better, cause all the small details are there and some characters have more dialogues, screen time and detail to specific things, like for example, Beru in this episode should of been more menacing, better showcase of his personality, him laughing with his evil aura while oneshotting the ants and other fodders in the red gate dungeon and more screen time. Them skipping Jinwoo clearing all the ants, his leveling details and stats, the key he got from clearing the 100th demon castle floor etc. but yeah go read the manhwa.

GreetswithJudgement

The Jason Stathom comparison is wild but also too accurate 😂

izykyzi

The only thing missing for me in season 2 was the feeling that jinwoo might lose. I was constantly on the edge of my seat in season 1 as jinwoo barely clutched out victories against impossible odds. I enjoy the aura farming in season 2, but it’s missing some of that grit from season 1 imo

Golden Pants

Contrarian is the word yall are looking for

Rare_pvk

Rushed pacing, a lot of manwha content cut, the fights lacked direction and the choreography was questionable at best, there were a couple hard to follow fights in which I did not know what was happening, subpar animation and even bad in some less important shots. 6/10 the manwha did it better.

Xen0n

"subpar animation" Come on now, be real

studiogek

You talking about us the Geks or people in the comments?

Jezza

hard to follow how, your eyes lagging 2000ms

Nicholas Alexander Rude

I agree, this is my favorite Aura Farming I've ever seen but those shows are on a different level of overall storytelling imo.

Murasaki

Mid story with aura farming rated as high as goated story lol. That's why idc about ratings nowadays.

what solo leveling does for me more than anything else is entertain me and it does it well so i'm happy. for anyone who is looking for more than that, i can understand why they wouldn't rate it high–it does what it's meant to do but it's not a complicated show, nor does it have complicated characters. my point is: i'm okay with this because although i didn't really know what i was getting myself into when i started the show, once i realised what it was, above all else i was satisfied with the fact that it scratches my anime itch. if there was an equivalent to the phrase 'easy listening' for an anime (i guess it'd be 'easy watching'), solo leveling is that. i think the fact that so many people enjoy it and that it's really popular is because it appeals to a wide audience and i believe that's awesome. we're not all anime scholars, we don't all have a large repertoire of animes we've watched; the one thing we all have in common is that we like to be entertained so if an anime ticks that box, why shouldn't it be talked about and rated highly? simple stories deserve their flowers too, especially ones that appeal to so many people like sl does. i'm not addressing this rant to anyone in particular, just sharing my thoughts. thanks geks for another fun reaction! p.s. i always love when you guys mention wizard101, i loved that game as a kid (no matter how many viruses it gave our computer) and no one around me ever knows what i'm talking about when i mention it.

Rare_pvk

Jinwoo vs Baran video on youtube on the crunchyroll channel, squiggly lines, bad animation, weird camera pans, weird cuts. Bad animation 1:05 - 1:29 power point presentation of still frames, 3:02, 3:42, 4:56 pause here and look, tell me this is not bad, go on. 4:27 to 4:36 and 5:10 to 5:24 please explain to me what happened here?. Example of good animation and very good fight choreography on solo leveling? Igris vs Jinwoo every single shot and frame have coherence and make sense, there is no powerpoint presentation of still shots and a nice mix of 3d and 2d. An example of excellent animation and fight choreography? Saber Alter vs Rider Fate/Stay night Heaven's feel.

Zzcx

I'm really curious about your rating system - why are you rating shows in such detailed manner (eg 9.1, 9.4) when you have the whole 1-10 scale to utilize? For me, s1 was a 5 or 6 and this one was an 8 (only due to hype and awesome power fantasy, writing wise it was mid)

Skyz

Solo Levelling is just hype to watch, fast pace, giga chad MC and good animation. It's not the best, it doesn't hold a candle to AOT but it's still entertaining. In terms of recent anime i definitely prefer Dandadan, Kaiju no. 8 and Frieren. I'd give season 2 like an 8.5 and that's probably generous. Also for the ranking system, it is described that the difference in power between top tier S ranks and low S ranks is greater than the difference between low S ranks and E ranks.

Murasaki

Carter you proclaimed you’re a story guy since the start of the channel and you give this one a 9/10? I got confused of how you rate a show and how much the story weighs.

CoLdBITeR

I liked the anime, it was a fun watch, like how junk food anime is supposed to be. But I do wish they had the pacing a little slower, and most of all made jin-woo a little more unhinged like it was in the manhwa, the anime was trying hard to make him seem like a kind man, instead of his power hungry, love of fighting, and just general lack of care for others like how he was in the manhwa (he would care about family, but that was mostly it.) i loved how crazy he could get, I miss it in the anime version.

Murasaki

I feel the same. Their scale of rating is so confusing.

Alex P

I think it has a simple story, but it’s very good at execution and that’s why it deserves the praise. It’s a good, fun time and the show manages to never be boring despite the simple story

EightNights

I thought you were sarcastic when you asked us to compare this to aot man :))

PST3

I dropped it after 5 episodes in season one. The other characters were lame, story seemed similar to someone playing a FPS computer game. I can't believe all the hype it got. I expected a better story coming out of Korea, I guess the good writers there aren't into anime.

Alex P

I felt like it has some flaws, similar to JJK S2 Mahoraga fight, but just like JJK the animation was still great, so I am satisfied as a viewer. But if these fight scenes get the similar level of improvement as the Blu Ray version of Mahoraga fight - that would be great.

PST3

I think it's to not offend fans of the shows they are rating. an 8.0 from them is an IMDB 6.5 an 8.5-8.9 is an IMDB 7.0-7.5 a 9.0-9.4 is an IMDB 7.6 to 8.1

EightNights

Also this being rated higher than Chainsaw Man is a freaking crime

Alex P

Agreed, there was a moment during the Beru fight when he was in danger, but it was so short, that it doesn’t really count

Alex P

I didn’t read the manga, but I love the show, it’s a simple story, but the execution deserves all the praise. For example the scene of his mother finally waking up. Also for the missed details - I like to watch videos that compare light novels, manhwa and anime

Wickerx Nanana

I don’t agree with their hate, and I think the anime adaptation was solid, great visuals, sounds and animation. However my opinion is that manhwa still clears the anime version, mainly because a lot of details that are really helpful and fun to know were skipped to rush to the climax points in the anime

Alex P

I am not a shonen fan and I agree that the story is simple, but I think the show deserves the high ratings because it is really good at what it wants to be and it never failed to keep me entertained, in part thanks to great direction, animation and soundtrack(damn I love Sawano OSTs). I swear, so many times I knew what was coming, but it was fun anyway and no part of the story felt lazy.

Alex P

Yeah, it feels like I imagine JJK would feel if Gojo was the main character during the whole show

Brig Andrus

That might be a hot take

Brig Andrus

This makes no sense 😂. Just cuz there’s a 1 we need to rate something a 1?

Alex P

Another comparison could be OPM if Saitama was an aura farmer and we saw his story from the start of the show and not when he is already OP

Brig Andrus

That’s just not true. If you think S1 is a 5/10 you’re crazy respectfully

Brig Andrus

That’s a tough question! I think Demon slayer has higher peaks but solo leveling is more consistent.

Brig Andrus

We’ll attack on titan is a 9.9 so if it’s a 9 then it isn’t being compared to attack on titan..

EightNights

I hope to see the day when the boys will react to something like Kaguya-sama love is war.

EightNights

Naa you'll get converted when the movie comes out. And it only gets better from there

Nonos

I love chainsaw man but because it was only 12 episodes I’d say solo leveling’s 25 episodes are better for now. S2 was great action man. But I’m investing in chainsaw man in the long run tho.

kiiturii

Well I only say that because of what you bring up at 29:37 didn't mean it as if you guys were the ones saying they're comparable

EightNights

Jjk had characters and cool interactions between them. Not comparable imo

Garreth

That's exactly what I did but then I picked it back up because S2 came out and I wanted to just see if it was worth the hype. Sadly disappointed, I think it's well animated but the story feels hollow and super rushed. I can't connect at all with anyone. It feels like I'm watching a montage of someone speedrunning a video game.

Cannon Andrus

We’re caught up in the inflation

Cannon Andrus

We’re just caught up in the inflation

Rare_pvk

Sure, even though it has flaws, it is still an entertaining show and hopefully the bluray release will improve on the animation.

EightNights

dunno man, maybe it's just me but chainsaw man just oozes soul, passion and effort from both the mangaka and the animation studio. The number of episodes doesn't really matter

GreetswithJudgement

I would agree in the sense that what the creators wanted, they absolutely achieved and that hasn’t gone unnoticed. It’s hyped up and popular for a reason. I felt the same way about DS and JJK. They’re on the same tier list for me. SL is exciting, it’s new, you have a main character that is beyond cool, it’s visually pleasing but too much hype can bring haters or it can bring glazers. The issue I have is it’s always one or the other. It all comes down to preference, objective or subjective. For me in order to be called peak (we all throw that damn word around that it has lost all of its meaning. Not everything can be peak and that’s a fact. It’s an insult to actual peak things) or be in the 9 or above it has to have an intriguing story from start to finish, it has to feel real, it has to make sense, the characters have to go through a development process that makes sense to their character, the story can’t be predictable and it has to stir emotion! It must be timeless and consumed even after it is over. I didn’t feel like that with SL, at all. Not a bit. It wasn’t was lazy but it felt rushed if that makes sense. But I get the process needed to adapt something on this level. I get the hype, I really do but personally and I want to make it clear that it all comes down to preference and enjoyment for most people But I rate things whether or not it holds my interest. The story has to be interesting in order for me to enjoy something. It’s why it’s difficult for me to find something that I love and cherish. In fact most things we’ve watched on this channel I wouldn’t rate as high as the boys but I can still acknowledge a good story. But any story can be good! Any story can be great! I would argue that AOT isn’t the best story of all time but it’s the execution of the story and how it’s told that makes a difference and its story is told beautifully therefore making it the best story ever told. SL has a story to it but it isn’t executed in a way I would consider interesting or great. But I agree with you, what it did and wanted to do, it did well. Sorry for my rant.

eiden

I am manifesting a fate upload

Zu

Chainsaw Man got shafted of the popularity it deserves for the anime because they didn't make it a 24 episode season so there wasn't enough time for it to really cook. If they included this upcoming arc into the show when it first aired, people would have a lot more praise for it. I've read the manga and know what's to come so I'm excited, but it's not hard to see why people who have only seen the anime feel like the story might be overhyped. In my opinion shows like Demon Slayer and JJK would have also suffered the same fate if their first initial seasons were only cut to 12 episodes instead of 24

Sam M

Absolutely. Any episode of chainsaw man clears both seasons of this. I'm not even a huge fan of csm but holy this show feels so hollow

Arctic_stark

Is there a movie reaction coming today?

Bene

chainsawman clears

CoLdBITeR

Just because someone says they enjoy eating hearty healthy meals, doesn't mean they can't enjoy a treat every so often. Let them rate it how they want, if you guys keep gatekeeping animes and getting mad at how the geks enjoy or hate certain animes, soon they gonna stop being as genuine and start faking their reactions just so that you guys stop attacking them.

Dale Cooper

I think the anime does a decent job adapting the Manhwa. The story itself is just a pretty generic wish fulfillment series. It's definitely fun in a blockbuster film where you just want to shut the brain off and enjoy the action. A good 6/10 just a fun time.

Murasaki

How come that you interpret my comment as being mad and attacking them?? This is the way I discuss and exchange opinions with my friends.

Alex P

I love Freiren and didn’t watch Dandadan yet. But Kaiju 8? I think it’s basically the same thing as SL, but worse execution. To me SL feels like I imagine JJK would feel if Gojo was the main character. It’s a pretty simple story, yes, but it never fails to entertain, in part because the execution is great. In contrast Kaiju 8 feels like the execution is mid(personal opinion). I base it on the fact that in both shows there were a lot of moments when it’s easy to predict what is going to happen. But in SL I was still hyped to see it happening, while in Kaiju 8 I was just bored.

Icchi

If you say any season a 6 you clearly can’t rate objectively… be serious

Sam M

This being rated higher than hunter x hunter is so crazy lol

Sam M

They also rated it higher than HxH which they gave an 8.5-9 lmao hey to each their own

Alex P

Completely agreed. I think that SL stands out from other shows with similarly simple stories because the execution is great. No moment in the show is boring. The direction, animation and soundtrack are great and I think the show deserves all the praise and high ratings for being so good at what it wants to do. Not every story has to give profound insights and multilayered evolving characters, sometimes this kind of a show is just as enjoyable. I also think that in a way it filled the void left by marvel movies, in terms of being an easy watch. But compared even to the best marvel movies - I think SL is much better.

EightNights

wait are you serious? how much was HxH rated?

Sam M

Yes lol. Canon and Jack gave it a 9 I think and Carter gave it an 8.5 on enjoyment because he prefers a good tight plot. I don't remember McKay or Brigs but I think it was similar maybe 9

ssj4rit

9s are being handed out like candy these days

James Moss

Depends if you are ranking based on pure entertainment or artistic value. HxH obviously blasts away Solo Leveling in terms of world building, story, characters, etc... but Solo Leveling is one of the most entertaining popcorn shows I've watched and doesn't have the lulls that HxH does.

EightNights

yea i think ima just go to bed after hearing this one holy shit

Alex P

I agree that it’s similar to DS and JJK. It’s what I imagine JJK would be if Gojo was the main character. And I agree that shows that you described are in a different group (for me it’s Vinland Saga, Freiren and AoT), but at the same time I grade the shows based on how good they are in what they are, so I agree with higher ratings. Btw, as much as I enjoyed first two seasons of Demon Slayer, by the time we got to season 3 - it kind of got boring, the whole thing about Muichiro and the Love Harshira was mostly boring and the whole Hashira training arc should have been a montage, because it felt like it added nothing to the show. I hope the infinity castle arc makes it worth it and ends the show on a high.

James Moss

These guys are way more into battle shonen than me, but I have to agree with them that this is a 9/10. It's pretty basic but it's so fun and entertaining.

saida

YES! i think maybe a small part of the fact that no moment is boring is because every scene gets straight to the point. i've seen a few comments saying how some manhwa moments aren't in the anime and although that isn't ideal and i'm sure disappointing, ultimately, i don't think the show suffers for it. AGREED ON THE SOUNDTRACK!! unsurprising since it's sawano, but every song so far has elevated the scene it was part of. on your point about multilayered characters and profound insights–i couldn't agree more. i love a complex and thought-provoking story with multi-dimensional characters, the jaw-dropping revelations of stories like that and where it takes a person emotionally is honestly an experience that can't be matched for me. it's why aot is my favourite anime (so far. i'd consider myself an anime newb, could count on one hand the amount of anime i've consumed hehe). THAT BEING SAID, shows like solo leveling hit the spot for me in a different way and i don't think one feeling beats the other in quality; there is a time and place for both and i think they balance each other out. your point on solo leveling filling the marvel void is honestly spot on: the story being easy to follow is a pro and not a con in my eyes. the fact that the geks can appreciate both kinds of stories is just another reason why i love their reactions. gonna miss solo leveling saturday man. now what can i watch to ease the heaviness that is watching aot 2.0 reactions?

Kite

Chainsaw Man anime is underrated 😔

d4bad

The writing is so mid but this season is almost comparable to jjk S2 with its hype/fights. Objectively its very hard to rate this higher than what you would rate jjk S2, but to be fair jjk has more episodes. Still very enjoyable though, 8/10

James Moss

Just curious will the Violet Evergarden uploads continue, or do you guys not have the rest of the footage for that? No worries if you don't have it or just haven't gotten to posting more, but communication would be good for those of us who are paying extra for that content. (hopefully I'm not coming off as entitled lol)

BFMxAngelo

Totally off topic but when are yall gonna upload Pirates of the Caribbean 4?

Murasaki

@James yeah can be the case lol. So that’s why I’m curious about how he rates this show. I guess entertainment got its weight in the rating somehow.

Bene

still planning to do the sakamoto binge?

Charybdis

In light of recent events you guys should watch another Ghibli movie

Dakota

The guy with the two swords on top of the battleship is China’s National Level Hunter, Liu Zhigang. Again, it’s hard to describe power levels without spoiling anything, but National Levels are S-ranks that should really have a rank above that, like S+. My honest opinion, from someone who has read the manwha a few times, the writing for Solo Leveling isn’t ground breaking by any means. I will never sit here and say that it’s elite level stuff. It is, however, very entertaining, especially if you enjoy battle shounen. That being said, A-1 has undoubtedly done a tremendous job animating it. And the pacing is actually digestible. In theory, they could have milked it a little more and made it take longer. I’m glad you guys are enjoying the show as completely blind watchers. As Cannon said, a lot of people are hating on the show, but that’s only gonna happen when a bunch of people are also loving it. People love to hate things these days lol

Frosty

i unironically think csm does almost everything better than jjk, and jjk is one of the most glazed animes of all time... unfortunately the things jjk does slightly better is the animation and "the character design" which in this case really only means some of the characters have more aura on screen lol, and those 2 things are what appeals to the masses because like someone said above, people wanna turn their brain off and just see some cool shit on screen

Frosty

i mean hes right, a 5 should be "indifferent", right in the middle, and anything below is bad or disliked and anything above is good or liked. now to be fair, theres a lot of good shows out there and you guys have mostly watched only good stuff but it is really crazy that almost every rating from all 5 of you has always been 8 or higher and when you talk about something potentially being even a 7 or someone else rating it a 7, its like its the worst piece of media youve ever seen

ShadowCat

I really loved season 2. I think the show overall is great and has amazing pacing and animation. But what stood out to me about season 2 were the amount of episodes that ended where I was left eagerly awaiting the next. I think it's speaks for itself when your anxiously awaiting each Saturday, which I felt more with this season than last.

Ryker

actually nvm bro i think your good

TRILLHO

hunter x hunter is one of my favourites but also has a lot of anime tropes that can detract from the entertainment for some people. meanwhile solo leveling is chock full of action and hype moments so i can understand why it could be a better watch for some people. if there were as many seasons/arcs as hxh i don't think the entertainment would be as potent but i'm absolutely loving it so far.

Brian Eduardo

Even if Hunter x Hunter is a better story/manga, that doesn't mean it's a better anime. The pacing, animation, and sound is way better in the Solo Leveling anime.

TRILLHO

100% agreed. i understand why people want to compare it to other fantastic anime, but thankfully we get to enjoy all of it for what they do well. this season and orb have been incredible watches week to week and i'm so grateful i get to enjoy it all.

Moon

Details from the manhwa!: - Jinwoo actually didn't manage to resurrect Byung-Gu on his first try. He failed 2 times actually, and he speculated that it was because Byung-Gu's soul was greatly opposed to being brought back from the dead. He didn't want to become a shadow soldier. However, Jinwoo tried a third time, prioritising Cha Hae-in's life, and it worked. (I'm not entirely sure whether the novel had anything about Byung-Gu telling Jinwoo to use him to save Hae-in, but the manhwa def didn't have that scene, so I can't speak for it's addition) - Jinwoo actually follows the South-Korean S-ranks out into the rain where the helicopter was waiting. This is when he tells them that he'll stay behind to get rid of the remaining ants and eggs on the island. He also takes off into the air while standing on Kaisel's back after summoning him right in front of Baek Yoonho, and proceeds to fly up and kill a few dozen ants on his way BJHWBJHBWHB - Jinwoo names the ant king "Beru" because he wanted a name that set him apart from the other ant shadows. He then recalled a novel titled "Empire of the Ants" that was written by an author named "Bernard Werber". He used the author's name as inspiration for the name "Beru", and bestowed that name to the ant king:)

Moon

More details from the manhwa: - Jinwoo actually resurrects the ant queen as well. Because he thought that she would be a great asset to his army since she was an S-rank beast (she was also at the General rank). However, the moment he did, his connection with the normal ant soldiers weakened. Beru is the one who tells him that the ant queen has an inherent power to rule over her colony, which is why if she's resurrected, Jinwoo will have to share control over the ants to some degree. Jinwoo also remarks that the ant queen's mana levels are very low for a shadow soldier of the General rank, and Beru tells him it's because most of her mana was used for reproduction. Now that she doesn't have a physical body to do that, her mana levels have decreased in proportion. After this, Jinwoo terminates the extraction and sends her back into nothingness. - Jinwoo's regular infantry shadow soldiers were picking up the essence stones from the dead ants while he was cleaning up the nest (because that's what they're used to). But Jinwoo makes them stop and says that the essence stones are gonna be used for the reconstruction of Jeju Island and compensation for the damages the ants have caused. When they hear that, all the infantry soldiers drop the stones immediately like they got burnt LMFAO His army is literally so funny HAHAHAH

"It looks like Gaston!" The way I screamed NOOOO out loud cause ain't no way that nasty narcissistic asshole would ever compare to this glorious man on screen JHBWDHJBWHJW I can't wait for them to introduce him later on!! On another note, while they did cut out significant portions of the scenes in the manhwa, I'm sure they'll put them in the next season. ALSO, the finale of season 2 is equivalent to the season 1 finale of the Solo Leveling manhwa, which ended at Chapter 110/179! It might seem like we're already more than halfway there, but there's still a LOT of stuff that's going to happen in the future. Shit's going to pick the HELL UP in the next seasons and I can't wait to see it!! Loved the reactions, I'm glad y'all like Jinwoo so much because he's one of my favourite protagonists in manhwa universe. I literally don't care what other people say when they hate on this series. I think it's amazing as a battle shounen manhwa, because it pioneered a lot of the current stuff that's being churned out en masse right now, which often don't give nearly as much hype as Solo Leveling does, imo. But either way, hater or no haters, hopefully the next season comes up in a year's time HEHE

CoLdBITeR

Just the way you worded it. If you don't want to come off as seeming upset, emojis can help. For example "Carter you proclaimed you’re a story guy since the start of the channel and you give this one a 9/10? 🤔 I got confused of how you rate a show and how much the story weighs.😖 " The first emoji shows how you come off as generally interested in why they rated it so high, and the last emoji shows more confusion while being more laidback, not judging them in a bad way.

CoLdBITeR

For the people being confused by their way of rating, I'm pretty sure they rate by how enjoyable the show/movie was for them. Not if it was the best thing they ever seen, or if it was crazy good for the writing/animation. They just rate it on the enjoyment scale, which helps them stay more neutral on the discussion on what they rate things.

LuvStarburst

I read the story and finished it and yes they leave some content out from the manga but overall the anime has been great. I cannot wait for the new seasons to come out and for the story to progress cause it only gets better.

Alex P

In terms of heaviness - I think Freiren is another profound anime, but in a different, more positive and wholesome way, while also never being boring. Also Jujutsu Kaisen is comparable to Solo Levelling in terms of being focused on hype action and great animation, while having more interesting characters, but the abilities of some characters can be a bit confusing for new watchers. And if you want basically Solo Levelling, but the main character is overpowered from the start, it's a good comedy and the animation is top tier - try One Punch Man season 1. Demon Slayer is another easier watch with top tier animation. It has it's downsides: season 3 gets formulaic and writing is a bit lazy, and season 4 drags quite a bit, but I assume the payoff in the finale will probably be worth it.

Zu

Solo Leveling is the media equivalent of junk food It's enjoyable but not good

I think if I rated the show the way I personally rate things I'd give it like a 7.5 to an 8, I think it's absolutely amazing at what it sets out to do but I just think it falls short on emotion and story like my favorite moment throughout both seasons was him curing his mother cause that actually got some tears welling up in my eyes but anything like that is pretty few and far between in the whole show (although the Byung-gu moment this ep was pretty nice). If I was to just rate it on how well they achieved what they wanted to make, it's an easy like 9.5, the hype, the animation, choreography, the god damn aura farming, it's all genuinely peak, just not what I personally look for in shows. I'm definitely here for any future seasons though, maybe they'll shut my complaints about the story up.

Wilson Nguyen

best take ive seen. solo leveling excels at its premise and what it sets out to do. u have the cool mc with cool powers have plenty of cool fights and moments and the hype builds itself pretty well. a1 did an outstanding job with its animation and music as well so u could easily say that the studio has gone 10/10 for its production and execution. if you’re looking for a heavy plot/narrative story solo leveling isn’t going to blow u away by it’s writing although i think its a step above from the generic power fantasy stories. solo leveling knows its target audience and executes what we want to see and expect from a story of its type and for that you can’t ask for more than what they’ve given us.

Skyz

Solo Levelling is all about Jin Woo, Kaiju is a lot about Kafka but it does focus on some of the side characters. Idk, SL is balls to the wall action with sprinkles of story. I can appreciate that Kaiju tries to incorporate more depth and emotion to the story even if it doesn't necessarily nail it. It's not like i think Kaiju is a 10 and SL an 8 but for me personally i enjoyed it slightly more. I only just watched it for the first time two weeks ago.

ApacheSlays

what if the portals keep turning red when jinwoo enters because they know hes a monarch monster but dont know hes human and the portals should be red when the monarch is in them

MissJodles

EightNights is right. I stopped reading the SoloLevelling comic for about a year because i got a bit bored and forgot to pick it back up. I stopped reading the Chainsaw Man manga for a year because it shook me to my core so immensely that I actually needed the time to process it. They’re not even comparable on the quality level.

MissJodles

Hold up Alex, at least Gojo has a deep backstory and a lot of personality quirks 🙅‍♀️

MissJodles

I don’t think the animation is bad, but people are defo glazing it a lot. It looks clean, but it’s not got those amazing choreography shots like JJK/Mob Psycho etc. Even in shows like Naruto you can follow the moves of the characters as they hit and counter each other. Solo Levelling is just flashing blue lights.

Cannon Andrus

What do you know about the panlong dragon 😭

Matthew Hunt Davies🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

8.1/10 Very good season, however I hate to be that guy but I can't not compare it to the manwha, that has a lot more content and feels much more put together. My favourite fights are still the igris fight and the baruka fight. I glad we've had solo levelling, because sakamoto days and blue box just cannot satisfy me enough for a whole season. However despite how good this has been, it may be the most overrated show in recent times, especially when people go around throwing 10/10s like they're going out of fashion.

T.Yaseen

Giving it a 8.0/10, Very hype and enjoyable most of the time, not that deep of a story but it's fine, it doesn't have to be that way for it to be good. i got what i wanted out of this season so yeah really good overall. i will say season 2 is better for sure. but ofc i'm not putting it anywhere near AOT levels.

CoLdBITeR

Ehh, finally another person who calls animes with little story junk food, like I do. 🙌😩

MissJodles

I wish Sakamoto Days got the Solo Levelling treatment of animation because the manga deserves it sooooo much, the mangaka’s drawing and panelling is just insane

Jonas Teigen

W winter season for anime. Orb, Re:Zero, solo leveling, sakamoto and more. Its nice to have a full action show like solo leveling sometimes, but would say Re:Zero is anime of the year easily tho. Absolute Cinema! They should definitely watch re:zero before season 4 (2026 hopefully). That arc will be some of the best anime ever. Peak character development.

Yo Dani

By the way, when he says that he heard Min telling him to use his power, thats not cap. If you go back to the last episode, right after he looks at us at the end, the whole screen goes black if you use full volume (headphones even better) you can hear a faint distorted voice. I think its just a little easter egg

saida

we are on the same page @lazarshi!

nocomprendo

i say this as a massive re zero fan, i dont think they would like re zero

alex anderson

My problem isn’t jinwoo and his power scaling with the rest of the verse lol. With all the screen time he’s got it’d be hard to fuck that up. My problem is the power scaling of the rest of the universe by the end of the season because you don’t know who is actually strong and who is actually weak compared to jinwoo, not just when compared to the enemies. To me it just feels like it’s jinwoo and then the rest. Obviously in action anime there is always a stronger enemy, and in a power fantasy only one guy can probably take him down which is jinwoo, which I’m fine with. But how am I supposed enjoy other characters for what they are when I don’t know how they compare to the main. When the s-ranks go and fight the red ants, people can say the red ants are fodder, but when beru shows up, the s-ranks are fodder. They aren’t creating enough tension in any fight that doesn’t involve jinwoo, which is my problem, but again, this might be a thing in power fantasies and just might be my thing. The reason this didn’t bother me in the manga was because I was to excited to read, and I was fine with the other characters as they were. However when the anime is trying to shed more light by throwing extras scenes in for characters that aren’t jinwoo, than my expectations are set a little higher for this compared to the manwha.

EightNights

what are you even talking about dude? what pacing? there is no pacing there is only fighting. Sound? you mean the music? or the sound design? I'll take Hisoka nutting over this "sound" all day everyday. Animation ok. So Violet Evergarden is the best anime ever because it has the best animation, going by your comment.

thanks @Alex P! you didn’t have to reply with so many recommendations, i really appreciate it! i’ve never been recommended frieren, it sounds awesome and i shall add it to my list. jjk is one i know and have watched season 1 of; for some reason, i haven’t been able to get into it as much as everyone else. I WAS ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE WHO FOUND UNDERSTANDING EVERYONE’S ABILITIES REALLY CONFUSING. i thought it was just me and my slow brain, i didn’t know it was a thing 😅. i can’t really put a finger on why i stopped watching it, it did everything solo leveling is doing and more but i guess it comes down to watching something at the right time for me. (i started jjk just after i finally watched aot season 4 and i was looking for something to fill that void, i guess it didn’t do it for me). i do plan on continuing with it one day, (i know a bit too many spoilers but i’m okay with that). one punch man!! i watched parts of that show because i remember my brother watching it on the tv and seeing a bald guy who could NOT care less about what he was doing just completely destroying all these crazy powerful characters with one punch. it was quite a while ago, so i don’t remember much other than that–another one for the list! demon slayer i have watched and i find it to be a well-balanced show: it was the second anime i ever completed (after aot) in terms of being up to date with released episodes and i loved it. i’m very excited for the infinity castle arc, a bit sad that it’s not gonna be watchable as a season, although i’m also excited to watch it as a movie. sorry for another ramble, i’m incapable of shutting up😊😊.

EightNights

omg yes thank you. Chainsaw man, just like hxh transcends shonen imo

Jonas Teigen

Really why? I think they would really appreciate that it has amazing story and character writing. And i honestly think they can watch anything since they are watching one piece, because of the weird stuff in OP. But its not for everyone ofc

Mike Q

9/10 Power Fantasy. 7.5/10 Anime.

Luffers

The people hating on this show and the Geks for rating it high just comes off as so pretentious. People act like their favorite anime is Shakespeare. SL is an unabashed power fantasy and it does it really well. It's rated 8.8 on MAL for a reason. Just like a goof ball slap stick comedy like Gintama can be rated a 9/10 because it does it really well.

EightNights

I haven't read a single hate comment, there are only people disagreeing with each other which is fine. Also Gintama being a 9, or even a 10 for some people is completely understandable. I have Kaguya sama in my top 3 after all :))

Pudding

To everyone, who is your favorite shadow soldier?? Mine is still Igris lol

Jonas Teigen

Its no hate, we 100% respect their opinion. Goof ball Gintama lol. I dont know if u have watched all of Gintama, but Gintama has better written shonen or i should say serious arcs then 95% of other shonen anime, and the comedy is peak. So its deserving of 9 rating because it does everything not just the funny shit, but everything very very good imo, but SL idk man. As a power fantasy SL does a great job. Not much of the other stuff, but that's only my opinion tho. I'm sure others disagree

Gilster

The China hunter's cut was Vincent Chansard? Popped off

kiiturii

@EightNights baseddd brother kaguya is also in my top5

Yuion

Without esil he would have died against the demon monarch

Yuion

Yea thats the word. Not native speaker so i didnt know

WhynefineT

Gintama is ass. It got lot of plotholes and asspulls. Not to mention the waste of potential. So many characters lacked conclusion and dept. Overall 4/10

WhynefineT

Very funny because the geks said csm is a brain shut down watch. JJK is 100 million times better than csm is every single way. Csm is basically made for gooners and femcels

Jonas Teigen

nah thats crazy, u did not watch the show. 2/10 rage bait. U not worth my time.

Brig Andrus

HXH is my third highest rated anime ever. Why you out here lying?

Sam M

Brig I know it is. It wasn't addressed to you my man. Maybe I should've specified more

Alex P

I’m anime only and it’s not a spoiler

kiiturii

your emojis make it seem far more passive aggressive

Tom

Vincent the GOAT

kai

brig be making it so obvious he got spoiled 😭

Zu

"Made for gooners and femcels" I can't even say this respectfully, but this is one of the most room temp IQ takes I've ever had the misfortune of reading lmao

EightNights

If Chainsaw Man had a female lead people would've glazed it as a tragic hero story, instead it's a male victim that's not being taken seriously, not by the audience or even by the author himself sometimes. Fujimoto's writing is truly something else for me. Freaking genius

Mahti

actually my favourite anime is better than Shakespeare

Gilster

Idk for sure I did see a tweet it was and definitely looks like it though

Taesan Jo

Lord of the Rings is overrated because its a simple fantasy adventure. No plot twists, minimal world building. We know nothing of the place where the oliphaunts or pirates come from. And no explanation for the eagles not helping from the start. This is how people who say Solo Leveling is bad because doesn't develop side characters or have a convoluted plot line sound like. It's literally called Solo Leveling. These are the people who think Tenet was a good movie and people who don't like it are too "stupid" to understand it.

Sorcerer

No literally. Re:zero is one of my fav anime but I really don't think they would enjoy it that much 😭 .

Zess

Bad comparison, there are better ones to pick. Saying tolkien is bad at world building is truly the worst take imaginable even within the context of what youre doing here lol

WhynefineT

Yeah no lotr has amazing worldbuilding and plenty of plot twists

WhynefineT

Coping crazy. It's literally what is. Most accurate description I can think of

Chrissy

I think this season was okay. Story was nearly nonexistent. I think this show is absolutely carried by the animation. It’s not bad but I don’t really understand the amount of hype it gets. I enjoy the fights scenes and that about it. I don’t care for a single character. I was actually disappointed that nearly all the S ranks survived. Jinwoo bores me and I liked him much better in season 1. I’m hoping next season we will get more info about the system and some other side characters become more interesting but overall my personal rating would be like a 6/10 and if I try to set my personal preferences to the side… like a 7-8/10. I enjoyed it, I’ll watch the next season. But I didn’t find myself counting down the days to watch the new episode and it would be far from one of the first things I’d recommend someone to watch. This show was more like a pass time for me if that makes sense.

Nivek

Not every piece of media has to exceed the last. I love my junk food anime and solo is sitting on top of the Twinkie pile in my opinion

Nivek

Lotr is overrated? Minimal world building? You’re not even in the barrel anymore. Internet molded brain rot take

Taesan Jo

Where do the pirates come from? Where does balrog come from? Where does oliphaunts come from? The movie never explains it. It's the goat of all series but never expands on those aspects. Why? Stories do not need to. Which is why people who criticized a series for not having any of the following are stupid.

DeadLotus

Im going to keep it short: anime gets a solid 7/10 while the manhwa a top 9.3/10. They really removed a lot of the story so it feels very simple and fighting heavy(course this is a shounen but felt more genre diverse in the manhwa)

komispo

DRAGONVALE MENTIONED

Dakota

You’re mad. I didn’t spoil anything lmao

kuza

yall fr giving s2 a rating in 9s..?

ssj4rit

Comparing LOTR to Solo Leveling is like comparing a steak made by Gordon Ramsey to skittles

kuza

i "hate" on solo leveling mainly because the fanbase but i still wouldnt say the show itself "isnt good" , its just not good in some aspects like story, etc but excels in the main aspects its supposed to provide rounding it out to be more so "mid" overall, fs enjoyable though

kuza

the fanbase DESPERATELY need to watch their second anime though holy shit so insufferable

Hamilton

You cooked here.

Goatchis

I like this show a lot but putting this season on a similar level to peak stuff like aot and vinland is crazzzyyy too me

Jordan Mowrer

Solo Leveling is the anime equivalent of marvel movies. Don't take it too seriously and just enjoy it. Well animated, fun little power fantasy. It's not that deep but its not trying to be. 8/10

7thdilemma

Yeah I mean, it's one of those things where if you consider the raid without Beru, and only the Queen and her swarm, then it's not so unreasonable that Jinwoo decided to leave it to the others. Some of those ants were S rank on their own, but the S rank hunters did have it handled and there was no way of knowing about Beru beforehand. Having said that, one might believe he ought to have gone regardless.

kuza

im a "mega weeb" because i think OVERALL solo leveling is mid considering what it has and doesnt have? just saying bs atp

kuza

and i also have zero issues about people liking the show I MYSELF like the show its just the fanbase acts like its the greatest piece of fiction to touch the earth

kuza

vincent chansard and akihiro ota are the goats especially if your a one piece fan

Chuck Norris

Reading these comments as someone who doesn't really watch anime is insane. This show is 10x more enjoyable and fun to watch than 99% of the garbage people have recommended me over the years. It feels like a lot of yall hate anything that gets super popular

Zu

I agree Nivek. It excels at what it tries to do so it gets like an 8-9/10 from me as a power fantasy but not high as a well rounded story

kuza

why delete ur msg to me now i look schizo

Chuck Norris

I said that after you left both of your comments but I was annoyed and was more hostile than i should have been

mal

as an anime only yes this show is anywhere between 8-9/10 considering that the only thing the show lacks so far is story depth. which seems to be a problem that’s going to be fixed soon based on what they just showed us in this finale.

Zu

What other shows have people recommended you?

Miitei

I enjoyed this season very much. Animation is really good, and fights were exciting. I don't think I can give it more than 8/10 tho, other than the hype, I still don't have any connections with the story or characters. I like the powers tho, I'll give it that.

jackson M

the mention of dragonvale was not on my bingo list but here we are 😂😂

Hunter

I thoroughly enjoyed this season. My only complaint as someone who only watches is I felt there was a lot left to be desired in terms of getting more insights and answers to the different storylines. I remember Jinwoo saying he feels himself becoming different like less and less of a human as he grows stronger. That’s also somewhat ironic when Cha Hae smelled him but said he didn’t smell bad implying he wasn’t fully human or something like that. There’s still plenty of answers to be given about the system What about the guy who wanted to fight Jinwoo because he blamed him for his brother’s death? Is his mom really okay after coming back? She seems off or weird? I don’t know. Animation and episodes were great but I felt like there was a lot left to be desired.

bobqueen16

omg I recently started playing DragonVale again

Nawvu

Are you guys gonna make a poll for the next anime?

Phoenix

All your questions will get answered in the next season. I'm assuming there won't be a 4th season as the show is roughly 70-80% complete. Not including the after stories they did in the Manhwa.

Nuoflan

from a manwha reader, the rest of the series does resolve some of the "story depth" problems, but it also has a lot of plot holes in it, and besides Sung, his friend and maybe Cha the rest of the characters are going to be neglected just like they are now (EDIT) srry for my awful english, not even my second lenguage. im sorry

Shadow

It’s closer to like 55/60%. We adapted thru chapter 110. There’s about 200 chapters with the added epilogue and stuff

Shadow

Anyone reading the sequel manwha? No spoils but it’s popping off

Phoenix

Right. Like i said 70-80% not including the epilogue. Idk if they'll add the epilogue to the anime. It would be nice. Maybe a coulple extra special epsiodes or something.

mina

probably when they finish mob

mina

how do they know the names?😱

Animeke

Relating to the end discussion, I'd honestly compare season 2 of this show to Jujutsu Kaisen season 2. It's nothing but nonstop peak, everything kept ramping up throughout, and I bet we're not even close to seeing the craziest moments and story elements.

Zzcx

@Brig I don't think you need to rate anything a 1, I was just asking if there is a particular method to it, nothing else. Eg. if you are specifically selecting only shows that are exactly fitting your tastes, so anything you watch will be 8-10 by default. Or if there is a different consideration. Personally for me S1 is 6, and 6 is good score to me in general. To me 6 means I had a good time, but probably won't come back to it. I think people are too defensive about scores - they are after all just personal takes, that are summed and averaged across whole population to give an attempt of an "objective" score like IMDB scores. To me, a show needs to tick a lot of boxes to deserve a 10 - but it does not mean it should be universally adopted stance.

yio

"emojis can help" cringiest shit I've read all day

yio

What do u expect the mom to do lmao

WhynefineT

Something to be relevant in the story

BlueA

That is how it goes with anime, people get extremely emotional over their favorites and hate on other things that get more attention than the things they like. I for example am a big fan of Fairy tail, an extremely mid anime, like 6/10 at most for the majority of people, but for me personally it's a good anime that introduced me to a lot of series, a lot of people that think like me will try to sell you fairy tail as the holy grail when it really isn't.

Michael Kitten

Nah he gauged their strength in the sparring, he knew they could be the Queen… don’t forget he was only a hunter BECAUSE of his mom, now that he got his mom back.. why would he go? He has a new reason to be a hunter now.

Michael Kitten

That’s what I’m saying, for what it’s doing it’s a 9.5/10 season easily, if you wanna get all technical and a wannabe critic, I still don’t think you should give it lower than a 7.5/10.

Michael Kitten

Honestly, I may like the dub more than the sub for that reason, the MC has more emotion and personality when he needs it. Aleks Le is awesome. (Can’t say the same for Tusk, awful celebrity cast)

OmegaAlpha 83

I know 98% of the lyrics for that whole drill.

aryastark

Nah marvel movies are trash.

humbleandkindness

Lowkey do you think the gates that turn out to be red are results of those two guys traveling all the time?

Ser Dunk the Tall

cannon if youre referencing heston james, i lost respect for you
