I literally just finished this episode

JoLen

This episode was a hole in one!

Shadow

Happy Easter. Nice light episode on this holiday

Cannon Andrus

I literally get beyond depressed.

Pekorap

This show is the definition of mid lmao. With all due disrespect

a_daichi

As someone who knew what was going to happen, I don’t think I was prepared to see it portrayed live. The show did this episode completely justice and I don’t care if anyone else thinks different. I didn’t really cry in the game but this portrayal had me bawling. You can feel the connection they all have. To me, this Ellie and Joel are still very special even if they feel a bit different. Absolute props to Pedro and Bella 🫶🏾

a_daichi

Also finally everyone knows ahhh

Zipzzty

Joel was the goat man

Isaiah

Happy late Easter Sunday everybody! If you celebrate hope you got to do so with friends and family :)

GreetswithJudgement

First I was worried for Tommy…then that shit happened.

tomlette

I haven’t played the games but the internet spoiled this for me during last season so I knew it was coming. Still tough to see.

tomlette

Just out of curiosity what would you say are some of the best tv shows ever made?

a_daichi

Wow great episode! Direction was a little different from the game but it ended up working really well! Highlights for me: The casting for Jesse is amazing! 10/10. Seeing how much of a leader Tommy is and how connected Jackson really is was very nice. The community is big in the game but it feels a lot bigger on the show. Kaitlyn actually sounds very similar to game Abby so this is very cool!!! I like her as Abby but there are some elements to tv Abby that I know a lot of people wish were a little different but so far, she’s doing a great job. Also I swear Owen’s character’s face morphed into game Owen towards the end and it kind of freaked me out haha. Another great cast!

TheBookerDeWitt

Bro the fact that McKay was playing PGA World Tour 2025 after this episode 💀💀💀

GreetswithJudgement

Great episode despite the bullshit. I honestly only care about Tommy now.

a_daichi

I thought it’d happen in episode 3 but as soon as I realized where we were I was like shit I actually don’t want to see this 😭

GreetswithJudgement

It is, but I did enjoy this episode a lot more than the first.

Kite

I love that the titles are songs from the game

1999

I bought the game hours after it came out and I made the mistake of opening Instagram before playing it and I saw a spoiler

TheSauceGuy

This played out way differently than the game, and while I definitely prefer the way things played out in the game in most respects, the show did better in a few small areas for me.

The Duke

Well there is a reason why they put emphasis on him here more in the show then they did in the game which is awesome.

TheSauceGuy

Cannon, do you plan to play the games on stream after this season? It only covers like half of the second game, so would you play anyway, or wait till s3 comes out?

TheSauceGuy

Random, but my Geometry teacher in high school had such a similar face to Ellie from the second game.

DAI

Bro, this ep destroyed me when they played "THAT" song in the end...I highly suggest Geks to watch the "Reveal" trailor of the original game, you can see the significance of that song. Don't worry it won't be a spoiler for the future episodes.

a_daichi

Don’t take it so seriously lol. I don’t think it’s a big deal because it came to the same conclusion. I didn’t mind it 🤷🏾‍♀️

GreetswithJudgement

I wouldn’t doubt Tommy will also have an unhappy end to his arc. It doesn’t matter what show or movie, my favorite characters always equate to death lol I expect these things. Except for my man Rick. Now he’s a survivor.

DAI

and I believe they(this show) used the original version of the song, right? I mean the original VA ver, not covered by this Ellie.

a_daichi

Nah I’m pretty sure this is Bella. I saw an older video of her singing and it sounds like Bella to me!

a_daichi

Cannon you guys would love it!

DAI

oh is that so? then well performed by her! still I think they can watch the trailor :)

TheSauceGuy

Didn't McKay say he plays golf?

a_daichi

Carter does your neck ever hurt with the way you grab it all the time

a_daichi

Same! It had me crying more haha

Cannon Andrus

I literally don’t talk for like 8 minutes😂

DAI

only 8 mins? i know what's coming but i died for 30 mins lol

Steve

Glad I never got into this series. Sorry y'all

JoLen

All I can say is trust the process yall. It’s gonna get good.

a_daichi

you stupid old man!

Nathan Magdeburger

Little fun fact. The person signing the song at the end of the episode was Ellie’s voice actor for the games.

Kite

This chat is going to be so toxic 😂

BestGinger

I remember when the game came out people were so heated about Joel they basically review bombed the game for years. Now though people appreciate it since we've had years to adjust and think about it. Also, the whole town attack wasn't in the game at all, so that was cool to see. Felt like Hardhome from GoT

Kite

Let Kaitlyn Dever cook

Zipzzty

Jack really missed this 😞

TheBookerDeWitt

Bro you were me when I played the game. I literally paused the game at 2am and got up and just walked around my house

November2

after the game i really hoped they would change the plot and leave joel out of this but nah..

Melizé

🥺💔🫂

a_daichi

You know what I’m wrong!! I didn’t see it said Ashley’s name! Ashley does sound a little different and a little like Bella. Also I was bawling so I wasn’t hearing correctly haha

BestGinger

Also, just btw the song at the end is sung by the actress who plays Ellie from the games, and this song was in the original announcement trailer for Part 2, nine years ago

a_daichi

He killed the doctor because he threatened Joel with his scalpel and to not get Ellie. I was always like dude he has a gun lol what’re you going to do

Troy

Lmao Carter just being like kill all the doctors is crazy, I unlike most feel like Joel needed to be held responsible for mass murder. Sad Pedro’s gone and that the cycle will continue now will Ellie and Abby but I’m interested to see how the show takes this.

Kite

You could play 1 and then wait for the show to end and play 2 😶‍🌫️

WhynefineT

Please also watch the game scene where he dies it's 100x times better acting

a_daichi

My first reaction was shock and sadness but I feel the show made it even more heart wrenching. We also got more dialogue that I felt was lacking in the game so I appreciated that!

Kite

As someone who played the first game, my initial reaction to Joel’s death was shock and it was really impressing that they actually dared to do something like that. The way the rest of the story unfolds is so unique, and I love how it challenges you on a moral and emotional level, something not many games do. Joel Embiid.

Jude

I'm fiending for the day Ellie gets them back

1999

Yeah it really challenges your moral biases. I remember people complaining that the second game was “emotionally manipulative” for making you sympathize with Abby 😂 Like bruh the whole point of a story is to manipulate your emotions

DAI

lol

Daisuke

Man, I get what the story is with Abby. I really do, I understand why she wants revenge. But damn, it is so incredibly hard to contain the hate I feel when I see her face. Like her smugness in that scene with Joel, just going off on a whole monologue. What did you even do to get here?? You got lucky with your meeting, got your ass saved btw. AND have a whole crew to help you against 1 dude. Okay Abby, you're tough alright. Where was this smugness on your fun trip down the mountain.

Daisuke

okay..I'm good now LOL

Grimm

I mean there was and is still valid criticism of this story line. 1 of the biggest criticism that I remember when part 2 game came out is the whole "revenge = bad" plot line, which is so overdone and in this case in the game really poorly done because it literally forced you to play as Abby I would say 5+ hours worth of gametime. That whole time people did not care about her back story because it forced you to play her after killing Joel. I have no doubt it will take the same effect on people who haven't played the game watching the show.

Brady

I think they way the killed Joel in the game was more trauma inducing but I think the show was definitely more emotional and personal leading up to his death but like in the game Abby straight bashes Joel’s head in with the golf club so it was just a terrible ending and it really did piss a lot of people off but I think the way the show did it was really good and definitely pulled way more emotion out of me than the game

Ron Jackson Jr

Damn I didn’t get a notification about this

TheSauceGuy

It takes at least a year for infected to become Clickers, and not all of them make the transformation. Becoming a Bloater would take several years without being killed. Remember that the infected in this series need to eat as they're still alive. There are also some other new types, like the Stalker that you saw last episode.

Gage

joel got a little too freed..

Kim 555

No Jack 💔

Philbo

I do kind of appreciate that they didnt make tommy look like a dumbass cause in the game Tommy and Joel save Abby then Tommy straight up tells Abby both of there names (although he didnt know who abby was, still really dumb considering How Joel and Tommy are) then Tommy does it AGAIN when they get back to Abby's Cabin. Alot of people Hated Joel dying so early on especially after having to play as abby prior to her killing him. it was to the point people stop playing the game altogether. im not exactly sure how much they are going to change since they are gonna stretch this out through this season and season 3. Im really curious how you guys are gonna react to some of the events that happen between now and the end of S3. Aside from the certain parts of the game that were IMO just fucking awful (not in a good way) the ending is what ruined the ENTIRE story for me. i wont get to much into that but like i mentioned. im very curious how you guys are gonna feel about where this story goes. you guys are kind of the only reason im even watching this show tbh lol

Prince

What an incredible episode. I knew what was coming and Joel’s death hit me even harder in the show..

TheSauceGuy

AHHHHHH, this is gonna be such a satisfying show to watch them react to with all of their comments and predictions lmao. Cannon will have an even bigger surprise waiting for him whenever he plays the game lol.

Grimm

yes so glad they changed tommy telling Joel name to them. I think the main reason people were upset is because I remember when the 1st trailer came out and it was Abby tied up hanging. People thought that was Ellie's mother and we would get to know how Ellie is immune. People were hyped and I remember people were calling out Joel was going to die and weren't really upset if he did. But its just the way they did it and how the whole "message" was "revenge=bad" what a let down and overuse plot.

Roan Gomez

Ellie harbored a deep-seated resentment towards Joel, which consumed her. She forgot how much she still cared for him. Now he’s gone and Ellie can no longer resolve her issues with Joel. That plus seeing how Joel gets killed will definitely trigger her PTSD. Playing the game 5 years ago and witnessing this unfold for the first time destroyed me but also made me realize a lot of things - how I should not let my anger and resentments dominate me and always choose my battles. Some things turn into cycles and we should learn how to end them.

Alan

Wait where’d the bugs and bills line go that was hilarious

TheSauceGuy

You can reduce the plot to "revenge = bad" if you want, but I feel like it's far more complex than that. I won't elaborate much yet, and was hoping people wouldn't mention how you play as Abby. I was hoping that'd be a surprise for Cannon, but I guess that's too much to expect. If you get overly attached to Joel, then yes, playing as Abby will not be fun. The game is meant to be this way, and I honestly love it lol. The first game is more about the bond that develops between Joel (an apocalypse-hardened man) and Ellie (an immune little brat) in an awful world. The second game focuses more on the gritty reality aspect; it isn't meant to satisfy the viewer. If you've watched All Quiet on the Western Front, you'd know the feeling I'm talking about.

Jessica

You get so distracted from the horde part of the game and escaping that and when you meet abbys group with Joel and Tommy you immediately feel something is off but it all happened so fast I was so fucking shocked that shit traumatized me. I’ll never be able to look at a golf club the same again

Alan

How you guys feel is how everyone felt when we played the games. That’s why people are like “I hate the second game” but I think that’s what makes it such a good series. A story making people this divisive is a testament to a good story

TheSauceGuy

"NOOO, I DON'T WANT TO LOOK AT THIS HUMAN BEING AS IF THEY'RE A HUMAN BEING!"

Alan

I’m glad they added a little cinema sauce for the people who knew what was going to happen

NMP

Fun fact the woman singing at the end is Ellie’s voice actress from the game

Alan

I’d bet it’s the most expensive episode this season

NMP

Time flies man… by the time season 3 comes out and wraps up the story of the game it will probably be 8 years old

NMP

Idk why people keep saying this. You can’t start the story of Part 2 without Joel dying. You guys want an entire season of just daddy daughter drama in Jackson?

TheSauceGuy

I didn't say I disliked it, I just meant the entire battle didn't happen, and I prefer it not happening. It's cool for the spectacle, but that's the only purpose it served. Instead of Dina, it's Tommy who is there when Joel is killed. The name slip-up thing didn't bother me as much as it did many others who played the game, but it was done well here. She heard the name "Joel" before Dina had realized Abby was even there, and she also had a description of what he looked like this time.

Grimm

I can reduce it to "revenge = bad" because that was all Neil Druckmann was saying behind the scenes and interviews when the game came out. Which made people eye roll and people were saying how useless and overdone to make that the main plot which was valid. People wanted more world building and was excited to play Ellie and Joel. Also don't forget that they tricked consumers in a trailer making it look like Joel was still alive more later in the game. I said this in another reply but people were excited to play Abby in the very 1st trailer of the game because they thought that was Ellie's Mother. I mean maybe I'm wrong and the plot is just better in a TV show format because it didn't work for some people in a game format.

NMP

It would be very hard for him to resist playing the second part of the game when it will probably take 2 years for season 3 to come out.

Alan

I keep trying to think about where I’ve seen the actress for Abby but I literally just think she looks like my ex-situationship

NMP

Joel’s death feeling unsatisfying/unfair is part of it. The second game is very very brutal and it doesn’t really let you get anything easy.

TheSauceGuy

I agree with it being more brutal in the game, but not getting me more emotional, but that's probably because I already knew what would happen.

Roan Gomez

No need to worry about no longer seeing Joel for the rest of the season. If you watch the trailer again, there are still a lot of scenes with Joel that haven’t been shown yet. Thankfully, flashbacks are a thing in this show. He’ll probably still be in season 3 for all we know.

TheSauceGuy

I don't care about Neil lol. Anyway, they wanted to surprise players, not be like "yeah, Joel dies early on guys, have fun!" They wanted the players to feel terrible, but push through and experience the very different journeys of the two playable characters. What the second game puts you through clearly isn't for everyone, but I love seeing alternate perspectives, so I naturally found learning more about Abby interesting. To me, the second game is more unique and boundary pushing than the first in most ways, and the gameplay is certainly better. If the plot of this game is "revenge = bad," then you can say the same for AoT. Claiming the game is no more than a revenge plot is a reductionist take, and one that is often given in bad faith by those upset that the game wasn't focused on what they expected it would be. I can't fully elaborate until they've watched more.

TheSauceGuy

It gets tiring when most media has the main character find some bullshit way to get out of any situation. I liked Joel, but his death was an almost refreshing experience because it felt NEW. Unlike many, I became more invested because I wanted to feel more of that surprise. I think both the first and second games are masterpieces, but the reasons as to why are completely different.

TheSauceGuy

Historically, humanity has been great at finding ways to justify and perpetuate cycles of violence, but we seem to struggle with that last part you mentioned.

Roan Gomez

True. It’s easier said than done. Overcoming anger and trauma is tough and is something that we’ll have to work through for the rest of our lives. It’s just amazing how this story beautifully presents it, and makes us reflect on it, even with Joel in season 1. Challenging our moral biases is also another thing they’ve done here.

Roan Gomez

TheSauceGuy, you captured it almost so accurately except the letters should be in alternating caps. 😂

WhynefineT

okay you guys definitely need to react to joel death in game lmao its 100x worse treatment. Also the acting in the game is way superior

engraved

Cannon mogging the hell out of that TV at the end I feel that

Roan Gomez

Yeah, Joel isn’t Tony Stark.

Ante

I loved this moment back then and I love it now, even though both times i didn't enjoy a single second of what was shown on screen. No plot armor, no talk-no-jutsu, no last-minute shenanigans no matter how hard you might have hoped for them. Just Joel and some hard consequences. I understand the annoyances with Abby, but personally I like the idea of an 'NPC' standing up for themselves and getting some real payback against the main character.

Roan Gomez

Even though a lot of haters are making fun of how we call both The Last of Us games a masterpiece, I still stand by it. I can no longer even stand a lot of other story-driven games anymore.

Sarah Rosa

IM SICK TO MY STOMACH… literally cying my eyes out😭😭😭 (non gamer here)

Kevin Landon

you play as abbey in the game, so shes technically not an NPC in LOU2, but i get ya. The main issue I had with the way it happened(in game) was that Joel and Tommy would not have let their guard down so easily around a new group of people. Its just not smart to walk into a situation like that and tell random people who you are when youve done the things they have done

Kevin Landon

Lmao, when Tommy was in the middle of the street with his invisibilty cloak on! all the infected running past him while he shoots the bloater had me rotfl. This show reminds me of season 7 GOT

Jonesy

personally i feel like there is a lot more tension in the game for this part of the story which made it very emotionally potent. the episode was still good tho

jed d'angelo

I was wondering where I knew her from. She was a big child actor in a lot of movies and tv a few years ago. I think this is her first big role as an adult so a lot of people are recognizing her since her face didnt change much so its weird not knowing why she looks so familar😂

Violet833

It seems in the show she was on her way to forgiving him or forgave him already based on her conversation with Jesse.

Ante

I meant a side character essentially, not a literall NPC, but I get how odd it sounds since Abby IS a playable character. Yeah people were angry about a lot back then and Joel and Tommy not being smart enough to sniff the setup out was definitely one them. I didn't mind that too much. Every one slips up eventually. I could understand them letting their guard down since they just saved Abby's life a moment ago.

Kale

I mean like 60% of this episode wasn’t in the game in the first place, but personally I felt making him be out with Dina was kinda unnecessary and making her use her fists instead of the golf club kinda took away some oomph to the scene 🤷‍♂️

Brandon Kidd

"Don't @ me, don't call my phone, don't come by my house" LMAO

Vanesa

Me either. I like the game but I'm just going to state my opinion I don't like their casting choices and some other choices that they've made.

Mitch

I mean there def is some plot armor in this one. Abby, an 100 pound girl is kneeled down about 2 feet in front of Joel. If I’m him I know for a fact I’m bouta die in grabbing the shit out of her and strangling/taking her hostage. That couldn’t happen in the game because the others were holding him down so idk minor nitpick but yea.

Slizzle

Geks can we get a video of you reacting to joel’s death in the video game if you haven’t already watched it

Sam M

He's 9-iron man

Spencer

It's my favourite lol, that's his locked tf in pose.

celery

the golf club made it feel more cruel i don’t know why they changed it

DownstairsRug

The video game was leaked several months before release and many of the cutscenes were leaked. So the death was spoiled to me and many others before even playing the game

Gilster

It's objectively a very good show but just doesn't hit as hard as the game. The "tell, don't show" aspect of Abby's character in this is lame imo they've got a lot of work to do to make the rest of the show work to say the least. Also what McKay was saying basically "is her character really built for this?" well in the game without words this question is answered when you see prime Ronda Rousey has shown up. Abby's actress is excellent but Druckmann saying Abby's physique doesn't matter is just wrong. She spent 5 years training her body simply to whoop Joel's ass and be built for this

Ron Jackson Jr

People say Abby had a good reason, and she kinda did, but Joel didn’t brutally torture Abby’s dad in front of her so it was quite unnecessary.

Maeverly

Playing this part of the game was wild cause it's a pretty big section, and they have us flip-flop between playing Ellie and Abby. So when you first play as Abby, you're like "who is this girl??" then bam, Joel in one. Like you guys said, I knew he was going to die based on the vibes of the game teaser trailers, but having it happen so early was jarring. The gaming community exploded after this. Soooo much hate was circling, to the point people were threatening Abby's voice actor, so I hope this actress is spared that. I do get why she does it, and I'm glad you all caught on to the parallels between her and Ellie, cause I felt a lot of people glossed over that due to the blind rage

Brayden Vassilas

My guess is that all the "new" looking infected have had their infection process slowed by the cold, snow, and even atmosphere of the mountains, all of which slow decomposition and fungal growth.

a_daichi

for sure. wasn’t insinuating that you didn’t like it. just saying I liked it

leah

not sure if anyone said this yet but the song that played at the end is actually sung by ashley johnson who voiced ellie in the games

leah

how are you gonna do allat with your kneecap blown to bits and an entire room full of armed militia members staring you down😭😭

leah

agreed

JoLen

Bro is flabbergasted 😭

JoLen

I thought it was Bella but the subtitles say Ashley!

JoLen

Fun fact, the girl at the beginning in Abby’s flashback is actually Laura Bailey, Abby’s actress in the game!

a_daichi

Roan, right because I love both!

a_daichi

everyone else would’ve put bullets in him regardless so I wouldn’t see a point in trying that

a_daichi

😭😭 watch the gameplay at some point girlie!

a_daichi

no he didn’t but I’m truly not surprised that she did torture him. that hate and revenge has been ruminating for 5 years. she was gonna f him up 🤷🏾‍♀️

tomlette

She was in a sci-fi horror movie called no one will save you that has basically zero dialogue and relies on her facial and physical acting. Also was just lead in a Netflix show called apple cider vinegar where she plays an Australian scam influencer and she nailed that Australian accent like no Aussie could believe. She really a great young actress. I get some of the disappointments for game players and her not looking physically like the character, but hopefully her performance overall will do the story justice for everyone in the end.

JayCnY

Joel's death in the video game was heart wrenching. Cannon's perspective was exemplified in much the same way. Many I know and myself included didn't even really feel like finishing the game. It was made even worse when after that you have to play as Abby. FOR A LONG TIME. This was probably the biggest factor that made people despise the sequel so much. Not necessarily the events, but the sequence of events. Even then, we all still rooted for Joel. You'll learn more, but it will probably only make you hate Abby even more. There were rumors that Neil Druckmann (Director of both games) did not like people idolizing Joel for the decisions he made, but there is no proof of this and ultimately Neil wanted to tell a story about consequences, revenge, and the cycle of violence. Joel was at the center of this narrative. What would of made a more compelling story is if they had given Ellie the choice to sacrifice herself and Joel went against those wishes. But to hide this from her and kill her for the "greater good" just isn't a morally sound reason to at any point side with Abby's father or her vengeance for him. Maybe had we seen flashbacks of Joel killing the innocent people he and Tommy supposedly did it would put this monster of a doctor and his spawn from hell on equal footing with Joel. Unfortunately they didn't and instead we all looked up to Joel and rooted for his survival until they very end. RIP Joel. Probably one of the most beloved main characters of any video game and went he out extremely unceremoniously which ironically immortalizes his death that much more.

Rumaki21

this episode like the long night except you can actually see it.

Spencer

It's basically Hardhome 2.0. Absolutely diabolical.

Goatchis

Lying in a trailer is not surprising players, just false marketing

Spencer

Well! Pretty obvious now why they wanted Mark Mylod to direct lol. Fantastic episode.

JayCnY

I had just listened to this a couple of days ago since it was the trailer for part 2 of the game! I knew it was her! So good..

Jessica

They should probably react from the beginning to where Joel dies to understand the tension that leads up to that moment god I’ll never get over how shocked I was playing the game

Kale

Probably for the “confirmation” seeing him get stabbed in the spine/neck is waaaay more visceral than seeing his head get smashed in by a lil golf club. I think them basically not showing him get hit by the golf club itself was a big miss though

JayCnY

What was he supposed to do, Legendarygamer?

Yara

canons face is "how could you do this to me"

rvsty

Joel didn't deserved that.

JayCnY

I understand where you're coming from, NMP. It's over. The show isn't just an adaption, but a shot for shot live action recreation for the most part. It's set in stone. There had to be a controversy and canonically this was the events that were set into motion of part 2. Unfortunately there were many people that did not like the story of part 2, but loved the relationship of Ellie and Joel. They wanted a new story with the characters they've grown to love. I get that you may not agree with that, but how is that hard to understand?

JayCnY

Ashley Johnson <3

Sarah Rosa

I love Mckay’s comments about Abby💀💀💀 LIKE LITERALLY NOBODY CARES GIRL

TheSauceGuy

I think she's one of the two female doctors lol. The other girl is the same actress playing Abby in the show, if I'm not mistaken.

TheSauceGuy

That, and a lot of people can die within a year. It takes AT LEAST a year to become a Clicker, but not all infected actually do.

Animeke

I was hoping they'd change the story from the game. The only reason I kept watching the show was because of Pedro.

TheSauceGuy

Abby is more buff than any of the Geks on the couch lmao. Her physique matters, but let's be real, most women don't/can't get to Abby's level. I would have rather they stuck with that look for the show, but I still like the actress, although I also wish she were a bit taller. Ellie on the other hand...

TheSauceGuy

I imagine the infected were focusing on the people on the rooftops over one of the only people in the streets. Other than that, it's probably just plot convenience.

TheSauceGuy

He didn't have any weapons, they'd just shoot him if he tried anything. She's definitely more intimidating in the game though.

TheSauceGuy

TBF, you don't play as Abby until after Joel has died IIRC, so you do look at her as an NPC.

TheSauceGuy

It's hard to beat the acting of Ellie in the game for that scene tbf haha. I really don't think Bella Ramsey was the best choice as Ellie. I just still see her as a 14 year old lol.

TheSauceGuy

Joel's mocap actor was one of the cannibals in the first season haha.

leah

the entire time i was watching i was just anticipating joel’s death and wondering when it was gonna happen so i feel like i probably missed some cool moments because it was all i could think about LOL that being said, glad i get to rewatch with you guys. He is risen but as for joel… happy late easter 😭

TheSauceGuy

It's more just a slip-up on Joel and Tommy's parts, tbf. They had been living more "comfortably" in Jackson, so they probably let their guard down a bit. Why would Tommy think some random woman from several states over wanted to kill Joel specifically, though? Show Abby knew about Joel's appearance (mainly the scar), so she probably would've figured it out had it not been revealed to her anyway. I think the ending is bold and I really liked it.

Kevin Landon

There was that and then Tommy going fetal position after he ran out of gas, like he didn't have a handgun, or the backpack to throw at him and try to run away, I was screaming why is he giving up?!?! Lol, it's all good jokes though, I thought the episode was pretty good over all

Crogadile

Abby is built like a toothpick in the show, she wouldn't scare a fly off shit lol Video Game Abby made sense

TheSauceGuy

Were you surprised by Joel's death early on, or did you get it spoiled by the leaks? Either way, it's not "lying" to not show Joel's death. All of the gameplay trailers I saw had Ellie as the player. Joel is present in later portions of the game, even if he's not alive...

TheSauceGuy

@Roan Gomez haha, it's just so funny for me reliving this with a new generation of people (and some who are just here to complain about the show the same way that they did the game).

Philbo

yeah i know thats why i put that he didnt know who abby was so i wont blame him for that. regardless though i mean even in the game Joel side eyed Tommy when he just blurted out there names. like no matter how you look it, it made tommy look dumb as hell for doing something that.

TheSauceGuy

I can't remember, but does he do that in the show, though? In the game, he says, "I won't let you take her."

Meel

I actually think this episode for the most part was better than the game was done, especially for the majority of viewers. The big thing with the game was it was one of the most anticipated games of all time and 3 months before it came out Joel dying got leaked. And people were very not happy for a variety of reasons, Ellie was also confirmed to not be straight in the buildup to the game. I have no issues with either of these things but gamers in late 2019 early 2020 were very upset with both of these things. I can kind of understand the Joel frustration as it was abrupt especially as a leak. But he killed 20 people subconsciously hes a psychopath on the low lmao

Mon_d_lu

Well yeah you also left out the most hated part of the game, but sure let's not spoil. They'll love it.

TheSauceGuy

favorite part was the dogs just going to town and we don't see any die

Meel

I think that they are evolving the infected because of a later scene in this season where spores WOULD have been extremely relevant. As for how they are going to do this I dont know but I definitely think they will replace spores with the zombies intelligence not applying in the situation I am referring to.

TheSauceGuy

Now we let the Geks soak in their despair for a week before the next episode.

Soli B.A

On the frustration regarding Joel not getting a chance to explain himself, I feel like he had the opportunity, but he just decided against it. It's not in his character to try and justify his actions to strangers, and he wouldn't want to openly admit that there was a chance for a cure because unfortunately, he denies it. Abby and her team actually don't know the exact situation either, we saw that at the beginning of the show with that flashback to the aftermath of Salt Lake massacre. Joel is the epitome of an antihero, and I really admired his character.

Mon_d_lu

Eren > Ellie. Is all that needs to be said.

Ninjinzo

man i love the game so much more

James

This up there with glenn💔

Synyster

why is there even a competition? two completely different characters and shows

Synyster

Torture? No. But Abby was justified in her wanting him killed.

Mon_d_lu

Have you played the 2nd game? If so, this comment should be pretty easy to understand (cant spoil). This is LITERALLY the thing that people had the most difficultly accepting in the 2nd game.

Cannon Andrus

Love the Joel embiid reference lol

Spoons

A good thing to remember is that the game/show wants you to be pissed off at Joel’s death

TheSauceGuy

I mean, when you got your leg blown to shit by a shotgun and you're surrounded by armed militia, not much you can do. Also, you don't have to be very strong to use a firearm, or most weapons tbf.

Violet833

Based on Ellie's conversation with Jesse, she did talk to Joel, they just haven't shown it.

TheSauceGuy

Let everyone know that they chose Isabela Merced from Alien: Romulus (she also played live-action Dora lmao) to play Dina, but they didn't choose Cailee Spaeny from the same film to play Ellie :(

Jessica

I’m protecting Joel at all costs man

Synyster

i played it yeah. it makes sense story wise, it sucks, but its a good story. i just didn't understand the Eren comparison, unless you're talking about the cycle of revenge/violence. Then again, its still two very different characters.

TheSauceGuy

You/your pfp looks like Dina haha.

Carrie

On a lighter note, the fact that part of Joel’s description was “handsome” kills me, I’m imagining the nurses he left alive being like, “wait, but why was he kinda… 🤭” ladies let’s focus pls lmao

TheSauceGuy

Still hard to believe Joel was killed by golf, of all sports.

jrnoodles

Thanks Geks! Now I feel like shit.

JayCnY

Not going to spoil but I think you are mistaken on something that will be revealed later.

Synyster

Just realized something. Do they know these aren't typical "zombies"? Zombies in most shows are dead that are re-animated. The cordyceps need the host to be alive, that's why headshots are not needed to kill the "zombies" in this show. As long as you kill the host you good. Once a person is dead they can't come back as a zombie in this show.

Matthew Jackson

I've been waiting for this moment since they started this show especially when they said none of them played the game and have basically no knowledge of the game and then over the past couple years seeing their love for Pedro grow made this exciting to see

JayCnY

Yeah I don't get the comparison either. I think Luka just see's Joel die and relates it to Eren's mother dying. Both children seeking revenge. Their stories however are worlds apart after that.

TheSauceGuy

Yep, it has to keep them alive for them to be able to move and all.

Guy

No way. Thanks Dunkey

TheSauceGuy

Pretty sure spores are confirmed to be present this season.

TheSauceGuy

I was a bit confused by that too, but he was definitely scared shitless and probably felt the thing was nigh invincible at that point lmao.

Guy

I agree with Tim though, the show version of Abby thus far has not proven as imposing or menacing as game Abby. You can tell that game Abby is competent and a strong fighter in a militia. Show Abby doesn't seem (at least so far as we've seen) to have the same capabilities. I didn't like, for example, it showing her struggling to get down that hill of ice and snow it just didn't do her character service of fleshing out her abilities when we've just barely met her

TheSauceGuy

It'd be cool if Cannon streamed the games and the Geks watched along as a react tbh.

Guy

"Joel in one", lmaoooooo

TheSauceGuy

I actually forgot when commenting, but Tommy identifies himself and then says, "This is my brother," and then Joel says his own name. Joel probably wouldn't have said his name otherwise, but they both contributed there.

Guy

^^^ this would be sick

Guy

"9-iron man" NOOOOOOO IM LAUGHING AND YET CRYING

Mon_d_lu

--huge spoiler-- ------------------- Eren lost his everything and vowed to "destroy all his enemies", which he did even if it cost him everything he had left. Ellie lost her everything, says pretty much the same, yet lets her live, due to recently found "empathy". Thats the comparison. 1 quit. The other did not. The reason why people hated the game, wasnt Joels death, it was his death was for nothing more than "empathy". In real life Abby would never be forgiven, just like she never forgave Joel. The cycle of vengence, doesnt end. It never did, and never will. Thats where AOT peaked where TLOU went "woke". This isnt Naruto, talk no jutsu isnt affective in the real world.

Philbo

yeah that was the second time once they got to the cabin, the first time when they first initially meet abby after saving her and getting a moment to breathe, he says both of there names.

Guy

i'm pretty sure the show says the exact same lines there

Gilster

The point is they didn't at least even try to have the actress bulk up because it doesn't matter "for drama" on tv when most of the story is cutscenes, the entire game is drama like a show already lol. Apparently she's only big "for gameplay" like a brute but like... that's still part of her whole character and who she is. There are scenes in the game where Abby boasts about hitting 205 or 225 (cant remember) but it's obvious that it's something she's very proud of. I realize neither most guys or girls can make it to a crossfit champions physique, it's just very confusing to me how the decision makers just didn't even try there. And I think that's played a large part in people's reaction to her

JeanJean

Mid show for midwits. Muh media literacy about revenge is bad + subvert expectation bs. It's not deep, it's not satisfying, it's just shock value after shock value while trying to appear smart.

Mitch

Because he knew he was dead anyway and this little girl is literally right in front of you. They wouldn’t just blast him when he has a human shield right in front of him. His arms work fine and he’s a strong grown ass man. Rewatch the scene and look at how close she is to him

Guy

Please please do post a reaction to the game version of the scene it's so good!!!!

tomlette

Yes those were both definitely Kaitlyn Dever. I believe it was like present Abby telling her past self not to go in that room. Then she wakes up. It was a dream not a flashback.

Mon_d_lu

--Spoilers continue-- ----------------- When an anime character, which has the same goal, is more real and relatable than an actual person in a live action, its just shit (unrealistic) writing. That is all that the comparison is supposed to mean. If Joel did the same as Ellie, she wouldnt even be alive. He wouldve never died, in a way Ellie killed Joel.. which is completely wack because Ellie cant even accept an apology from a guy who called her a "dike" yet "her character development" gave her the strength to "forgive" lol. Just very untrue to her true character, in order to push a forgiving ideology that in reality NEVER happens. Turning live action, into fantasy.

JeanJean

Joel's charismatic presence in the first game was what sold us the game. Killing him off for the sake of another revenge plot pretending to be deep but really being nothing more than shock value was simply disappointing for many.

Krillin It

Ellie is so viscous in that scene, almost rabid. Probably the most intense acting I've ever seen in a game

Krillin It

"Joel got a Killionaire" damn near made me spit out my drink

Krillin It

Other than baseball and maybe cricket, not too many sports you can bludgeon a man to death with. Maybe Abby coulve put on some football pads and sacked Joel in the pocket until he died from a lack of an Oline.

Sickleweed

As someone who's only watched the show her build didn't bother me at all since she didn't need to be bulked up to do what she did to Joel. Honestly none of the other members looked like militia people either so she fit right in. I just assumed they're part of the militia because they believe in their cause and they're good with weapons or are useful in other ways (like the doctor).

Gilster

+ the behind the scenes of it

Krillin It

Tommy's got that dawg in him. Was military before the outbreak and was a Firefly. Joel was menace to fight, but Tommy is a killing machine.

Kite

Can I share a TikTok edit I made or is that prohibited 🧐

Spideycain

yep just like the game

Guy

viscous is a crazy good word for it gee

Ante

Show Abby being so scrawny compared to game Abby does change the mood of the scene a bit lol. Makes it look like Joel is being handled by an off-duty barrista. Game Abby had pythons that made each swing of the golf clubs that much more unbearable to watch.

Spideycain

In the game instead of dina it was Tommy was there with Joel

Zaraiz Khan

oberyn strikes again, also im with cannons take lol, i mean ill watch a couple more episodes cuz im not rly watching anything else other than one peice. but i honestly doubt ill finish the season unless im really impressed. episode 1 was booty, but this episode was really good, wouldve been better later on in the szn tho imo

mk

Pretty good stuff so far imo. The hate on season 2 is probably inevitable considering how much the second game was hated as well.

Sasha (Yare Yare Daze)

57:05 that look on Carter's face when Cannon is explaining. He just seems so empty. Cannon's depression after seeing Joel die... I guess also Carter said in episode 1 that Pedro is his dad. I'm watching this the first time now as well and I have no idea how the show can even continue. I also think I have never seen the guys so surprised/upset. I am extremely upset also.

Sasha (Yare Yare Daze)

This won't upset me because I already know about it but people please think of others before doing comments like these.

Sasha (Yare Yare Daze)

Yeah. And that's why it's even more ridiculous how Abby had to kill Joe like that. Like didn't the nurses tell Abby anything other than he killed your father and yeah he was handsome

TheSauceGuy

I think the majority of people enjoyed the second game overall, especially if they played it a second time.

TheSauceGuy

And he gets knocked TF out lmao

TheSauceGuy

They already looked at it based on the end of the video

TheSauceGuy

@Guy I love his video responding to comments on the first game haha

a_daichi

dude they’re in a militia… you think they’d miss a shot to the head? Lol

TheSauceGuy

Bowling is one. And hey, you can bludgeon someone to death with anything if you're given enough time.

The Duke

Damn well the show did a great job adapting the scenes and even adding more emotion to it. But wow that hurt so bad on another level from the game because of the additions and small smart changes to add more emotions to the relationships.

TheSauceGuy

Let's leave spoilers like this out of the comments, especially if your analysis of them shows that you didn't understand what you were looking at.

mk

The majority yeah (me included), didn't say that I agree with the hate

TheSauceGuy

There's an entire DLC that shows she's clearly lesbian, and the first game has Bill, who is gay. The "Ellie not being straight" thing only upset the anti-woke crowd that games shouldn't try to satisfy anyway. The people who have a problem with the ending of the second game are typically biased imo, as it has a very similar ending to the first in certain regards.

TheSauceGuy

I thought she fell down the snow in the game too, but maybe in forgetting. That doesn't matter to me, but I imagine we'll see her more in action soon.

WhynefineT

Ellie is way better written than eren in part 2 lmao

TheSauceGuy

I hope the raid plays more of a role in the story in the upcoming episodes, rather than just being for spectacle.

Soli B.A

Super curious what you mean, everything I’ve said is just my opinion after playing the games! So I could absolutely be wrong 🌞

TheSauceGuy

I don't disagree, but idk what went on behind the scenes. We need her to eat a burrito. I have no doubt that there were less talented actresses that'd fit Abby's appearance than there were talented actresses that would fit Ellie's.

TheSauceGuy

Mitch, he couldn't do anything to kill her quick enough. There were people fully surrounding him with firearms. Even if they didn't risk the shot, they could just let her away from him.

TheSauceGuy

The revenge bad argument is one of the only arguments I see people come up with. The game is far more than a revenge plot and even if you want to argue that it is one, it executes it in a way very few stories do. I can't really address this without mentioning spoilers, but the first and second game's endings aren't as different as people make them out to be.

TheSauceGuy

Yeah, Abby just telling them makes more sense.

TheSauceGuy

Not kill them, probably.

TheSauceGuy

Should've closed the game and played Wii Sports golf.

TheSauceGuy

Bro thinks he's Bradlynn

TheSauceGuy

If you haven't played the games, I'd just go for it. You could wait until after this season is finished, but I'd play them before next season.

Goatchis

@TheSauceGuy They full on replace a scene from a trailer with Joel saying "You think id let you do this on your own?" to ellie with Jessie. Look it up on YouTube. They literally baited what they knew the fanbase wanted cause they knew Joel's death wouldn't be recieved easily. I don't care they killed Joel even it was a bit dumb in the game, I care that they straight up lied with deceptive marketing.

GreetswithJudgement

I agree that it is shock value. It sucked that it happened because it made no sense that it happened (out of character for Joel to not suspect a single thing wrong) and there is no direction this show can take now that won’t be predictable or interesting. We shall see.

Lorenzo

Join the discord and share it there

Bryce

Yall are gonna one day just need to just accept the fact cailee spaeny is and never will be Ellie 😂😭😭

Hayden Ton

what time is AOT tonight?

Kale

Lowkey my biggest complaint in the whole episode was that they just magically had a drug to knock Dina out for an hour 💀 literally the only drug that resembles it in real life is Propofol which is NOT an instant knock out, even given IV it takes at least a minute before they’d actually start falling (she did not put it IV btw so it’d be even slower) 🫠

Kale

I think not actually seeing her use the golf club was a pretty big missed opportunity, took a decent bit off the oomph out of her hits and it just being broken next time you see it feels kinda random (using the stab to end it is a change is actually like a lot tho)

Mon_d_lu

Please spare me the "character development". Its an ass argument, doesn't match her character in the beginning nor what she says when Joel dies! She became a hypocrite and weak. Which ultimately made Joels death, mean absolutely nothing.

Kale

Tfw you think acceptance and forgiveness= weakness 🤨 SMH shame to see people miss the point so hard ngl

TheSauceGuy

I mentioned Cailee Spaeny before on here, along with others, but I only learned today that Dina's actress (Isabela Merced) also played in Alien: Romulus. I thought she looked familiar, but couldn't place it until I was talking to my friend about how I thought Spaeny would play a better Ellie. I went to show him a picture, saw Merced, and then my head exploded.

Eva

1am UK time ish

Chrissy

I will say when watching I was screaming for Joel to say something. BUT. That wouldn’t have changed anything. I knew that but I hated the thought of these people thinking he just went on some random rampage. Abby was already prepared for revenge. Also “why did he kill the doctor?” The doctor grabbed a scalpel and said “I won’t let you” or something. Yes Joel could have like wounded him but I think for Joel, he was too locked in 😭 There’s two possible outcomes, Elle realizes hate is just this continuous force and tries to stop it or she gets revenge. I want her to get revenge. Fuck peace lol. I really respect Joel here. He knew what he did. Fact is, he killed a ton of innocent people. He started shootin, it’s not like they could really know. I would do the same as him tbf lol. But yea it makes sense now it could breed even more hatred.

JojoJack

I killed Abby’s Dad with a flamethrower in the first game. Idgaf.

TheSauceGuy

I might have an inkling of what he's talking about, but yeah, I can't talk about it. From what I remember, nothing you said is "wrong" though.

Noah

can't wait to watch this season man. need to finish season one asap

Mysterious Figure

@Luka Monsaraz SPOILERS for the VERY end of the Last of Us story IF YOU READ THIS, IT IS YOUR OWN RESPONSIBILITY. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED! ____________________________ Luka, I would like to respond to what you said because I know that anger you feel doesn't feel good. I think I may understand why you feel that way. Ellie DID NOT forgive Abby. There was no forgiveness whatsoever during that last scene where she was strangling her and trying to drown her after she stabbed and sliced her so many times. That scene was PURE HATRED. What actually made Ellie STOP... and I know you remember that moment of her VERY last memory of Joel... his eyes filled with LOVE looking at her as he was sitting there on that porch playing the guitar. When someone loves you so much... someone that you also loved THAT MUCH... that love inspires you to want to BE the person THEY wanted you to be... the person they would be PROUD of. When Ellie was choking and drowning Abby, and when she had that memory of Joel for that split second... she felt ashamed of herself, because she knew that what she was doing, what she was BECOMING, was something that would break Joel's heart. Every child wants their parents to be proud of them. Ellie is no different. Joel is her father. She let Abby go because she knows her father wouldn't want her to become a person that kills someone out of pure hatred. She chose to let go of HATRED. There is a huge difference between FORGIVENESS, and letting hatred go. I hope this perspective helps you to let go a bit of your anger too. After thinking about The Last of Us 2 for a very long time, I too have let go so much of my own anger about that story. It takes a bit of time to understand it more deeply when you are that angry about it. In a way, if you think about it, it took so long for me to let go of my anger about that story... the experience you have as a player playing the story perfectly parallels the hatred the characters experience themselves, and you AS WELL have to learn how to deal with it. The game kind of teaches you a lesson about letting go of your own hatred and anger. The only way to do it, is to try and understand the perspective of everyone involved in the story. It doesn't mean you will forgive tho. But you will understand. And that is one step closer to acceptance... which, after (or if/hopefully not) you have experienced such huge loss of love in your life, is the best thing you can hope to achieve. Because if you don't learn how to ACCEPT what you have lost, you will be forever lost yourself. I hope you have a nice day. :)

Mysterious Figure

@Meel Just wondering do you think Joel is a psychopath because he killed 20 people that wanted to sacrifice a child for a possibility of a cure without even asking or telling the child they were going to do it? I challenge you to find a single parent that would do anything different in that situation. A parent would kill a thousand people to save their ONE child if they could. If you think for a second ANY father would ACTUALLY willingly sacrifice his own daughter for a possibility of a cure, you are delusional. And a scene in the game where the story is trying to sell us that reversed situation to justify the "other" side of the argument is basically a garbage pretend argument that would never EVER happen in actual reality.

Mysterious Figure

@JayCnY do you think Neil Druckmann would sacrifice his own real life daughter's life for the POTENTIAL of a cure for humanity? Even if his UNDERAGE daughter were to say YES DADDY I WANT TO DIE FOR HUMANITY! Parents have the final say in their kids lives until their children become adults, no matter what they want. There is a reason why we wait for humans to grow up to a certain age before we let them make IMPORTANT decisions that require a degree of maturity, experience and perspective.

Rusty

Well that was lie (joke)

Ray 🧟‍♀️

I hope the show does what comes next justice 😮‍💨

Mysterious Figure

@Grimm The message of the story isnt "revenge = bad". The message of the story is a lesson you are meant to LEARN only IF you yourself manage to overcome it WHILE playing AS Abby. You are meant to learn to overcome your own HATRED and LET - IT - GO. The game is literally making you feel the same emotions as the characters are feeling, and you cant let those emotions go, same as the characters. You are purposefully being forced to play as the object of your HATRED so that you are made to SIT with your HATRED so that you can MAYBE use the opportunity to take that time for introspection... think on that HATRED, and think on it some more. How does living with it, dreaming about it, swimming in it, DROWNING in it feel like? What does life devolve into when it becomes ALL ABOUT HATRED? For everyone involved. What did all that hatred made all those lives turn into? And in the very VERY LAST moment... how do you face yourself, when at the last second you remember the eyes of the person that loved you the most... LOOKING AT YOU as you are becoming hatred ITSELF? Would they like what they see? Do you? Maybe THAT is the message of the story? Seems like there might even be a lot more if you sit with it a bit. I know it took me a long time to decide to go back and sit with it. I'm glad I eventually did.

Mon_d_lu

First and foremost, thanks for the detailed and extensive explanation. You were the first to somewhat understand what my (not just mine lol) issue was with the ending was. So here goes; ---- Spoiler----- I understand what you describe. I understand that the theme of the 2nd game is not supposed to follow the theme of the 1st. Its supposed to come full circle, closure, right. I didnt dislike the game ending because i didnt understand it. I disliked the ending because i understand that THIS exact thing doesnt and wouldn't happen if the characters werent written but actual people in life... to not take revenge "for love" isnt reality, sorry. Its talk-no-jutsu like bs used to create a high morality superiority which is completely unnecessary! It also doesnt help that in game, you have to stick with Abby and then finally you get to Ellie again, all the while you as the player are just fuming to get to the ending, so you can avenge Joel and it never happened. It makes for a great fantasy ending sure. But just like Abby was justified for carrying out her revenge due to the love she felt for of her father! I dont believe Ellie didnt love Joel enough to kill her. You cant say Abby was correct, and still think Ellie made the right choice. I mean you can, but it is naive! Ellie isnt jesus, shes human. Humans behave as humans do. If roles were reversed, Joel wouldn't hesitate as he shouldn't. Its a normal reaction in an apocalyptic world! There are no morals for someone who murders your father! Anyhow, im not hating merely explaining why people did and will dislike the ending. While you might view not killing her, as a way of Ellie demonstrating her love, many including me felt the other way around, because we wanted something realer. Not a pain arc, naruto type resolution, where Abby didnt even sacrifice herself out of guilt, just "begs" to let her live and Ellie decides "ok", for love? Just leaves you disappointed. Im watching a show about a serious themed game, not a shonnen anime adaptation. When I played Ghost of Tsushima, I killed the uncle at the end. Because you dont do it for you, you do it because you know its what they (the people you love the most) would've and wanted done, and you love them enough to carry out their will. Anyhow its not too serious, just a valid reason to dislike the ending. However, I also understand that people who never saw TLOU characters as real people, as they are fictional characters not people, might feel the ending was great and happy Ellie found closure. Different people different tastes ig. Some might think expecting real life decisions from fictional characters is also "naive". Again not hating merely explaining why in a few weeks people will be a bit pissed off. I appreciate your time and hope you had a great Easter.

pineapplegreg

As someone who’s played the game, I’m really enjoying Season 2 so far. Dina is easily my new favorite character introduced this season

aubrey

the confusion at ellie not accepting an apology from a man that called her a homophobic slur is sending me lmaoooo like

Mitch

She literally rubs her hand on his freaking forehead for like 5 seconds. He has possibly 100 pounds on her. Even if his leg is broken he can still grab arm towards him so easily and get her in a chokehold and now she’s the hostage. Its a nitpick but him not fighting back at all there is wack

Chrissy

He killed the doctor because he walked in and said something like let her go, or something. The doctor grabbed a scalpel and said “I won’t let you!” and Joel shot him. Something like that

jeekolo

27:56 “looks like this is the last of us Tommy”

Chrissy

Also idk if yall don’t know but they aren’t “zombies” the fungus is a parasite and needs its host alive…

Chrissy

Dang lol

Chrissy

Yea they seemed confused about this.

Chrissy

Also we will 100% get flash backs of Joel and even Eugene. Joel is dead but it’s not the end of him.

Chrissy

Oof idk Glenn was brutal!!!

Chrissy

This scene was so wild too me lmao. Like bruh what. Fuck you and your “apology” 😂

Ladnon

Spoiler 💔

Chrissy

Lmao what a micro spoiler. I guess I know what path Ellie is gonna take.

Chrissy

Not really? I’ve never played the second game lmao. It’s just like obvious 💀 Also thanks for the confirmation 😂 I was just making assumptions but thanks

a_daichi

they know. they said this last episode

Chrissy

Ah I must have missed it/forgot! Thanks

a_daichi

@Kale, apparently it’s bad to change as a person overtime! let’s continue the inner turmoil, hatred and never mentally heal! I can’t with these people. best to just let them talk to the wall about something they hate so much.

JayCnY

@Nick R What should Joel of done then?

aubrey

@Chrissy ellie shoulda pushed him again for even trying that shit 😭😭

Chrissy

Girl fr I was ready to jump through the screen 💀 and the way the show made it seem like it was weird for her not to accept the apology? Biiiiiiiii… excuse me? I would have been throwing hands 😂 imagine surviving a damn world apocalypse but still pressed about lesbians 😭

Caleb

Imagine killing joel😭, what shyt writting, this shows so ass

Pxssive

No aot? 🥀💔

ShadowCat

Carter is going THROUGH IT for a full minute there when Cannon is processing 🤣 that's how we all feel, for real. ❤️‍🩹

Frosty

RIP the goat fr, but Joel is still, morally the worst character we've seen so far by a lot. Was still rooting for him and hoping they'd change the story to keep him alive :(

PST3

Pretty brave killing Joel this early played by the most popular actor in the show. It's going to hurt the ratings. I don't know why didn't they build a dry moat around the walls to protect the walls.

pineapplegreg

Eff that old guy and his apology, I definitely wouldn’t eat those sandwiches

pineapplegreg

I don’t know if anybody else already mentioned this but that song at the end was sung by Ashley Johnson who played Ellie’s mother in season 1 and played Ellie in both of the video games

Jessica

He chooses Ellie over humanity, it’s wrong in many ways but from his perspective he would do it again knowing the aftermath. Ellie was his “you keep finding something to fight for” after Sarah died, so the story is really about love, and putting part 1 & 2 together it’s all about perspective

Kekles

it followed the game? That did the same thing?

Mon_d_lu

When you mature you'll realize most of the world is shades of gray, not black or white. Just like Abby was correct in killing Joel, Ellie should and under any real life circumstance, would've killed Abby. Abby didnt die because the director wanted Ellie to mature and find "closure" in the cycle ending. Its disappointing to have it end in an anime/marvel fashion. But hey, don't take my word for it. Watch and see, we're only 5 weeks out.

Bambina

I was rewatching your reactions to S1, and in episode 6 when they show us Jackson for the first time, Carter says sth along the line of “I feel like the big one (bloater) can pass through that fence”. Talk about predicting the future 🤣🤣🤣

llB0JANGLESll

Party of acceptance... On display

Chad Jordan

Abby is supposed to be an absolute unit, a bad b*tch that has trained everyday to kill joel, not some short, scrawny girl. You should be afraid to cross her. There is supposed to be a dichotomy between her appearance and Ellie's, and parallels between their actions. Its a complex story that blurs the lines of good and bad. They kinda mixed up the story a bit to include the town being attacked as well, i guess that makes for better television. Idk how i feel about it.

Thomas

Saying something will 100% happen is not an assumption haha

Mysterious Figure

@Luka Monsaraz We think and feel differently about all these very important things you are describing. People I have loved more than my own life have died. They would never want me to take revenge for their life because they wouldnt want me to live that kind of life or live through those kind of emotions or experiences. Or to BE that kind of person. The person they fell in love with WASNT that kind of person either. After you spend half of your life with the person you love more than anything in the world, you know what they want for you - and that is for you to be happy, fulfilled, and to lead a life you could be proud of. Even their parents want the same thing. I am the only one that still feels AND battles those dark things you are describing, because I am the one that has to deal with accepting the reality that is unacceptable. Removing the blame, or THAT person that is TO BLAME from the world, it doesnt make the acceptance of the new unthinkable reality any easier. It is just something you use to focus all your hurt and pain AWAY from it feeling like it will eat you alive. But you have to eventually learn how to not get consumed by it in the end. That is the actual final battle... if you even want to get there - a decision that is a HARD one to make. Because its a decision that differentiates YOU wanting to live life after the unthinkable has happened, or you dont. If you dont, then you continue the hatred... but what this hatred really is - is YOU hating what life has given you, and what your own new life has become. We have lived different lives and spent them living with different people while living through different life experiences. I have learned in my experience with my people that hatred never brings anyone peace. It ruins not only the people you would take revenge on, but MANY people directly or indirectly connected. Many of those people are good people. Even indirectly hurting anyone so deeply in your hatred induced rampage, you are just spreading more disease which someone eventually has to put an end to or it will just keep consuming everything endlessly. In essence, hatred is love that was wounded, hurt and beaten so badly and has nowhere left to go but on a rampage. It is similar to grief but mixed with endless anger. Love is honestly the most dangerous thing ever to exist. What has brought the most peace for me was an unexpected smile, an unexpected embrace, a comfort that wasnt asked for but was given. This was also love. These things can change everything.

@Mitch The way I took it was that he was largely avoiding fighting back for Dina's sake - Abby had already threatened her life over just the thought of him lying, so I don't think he saw actual resistance as helping their case either

Zipzzty

Crazy how the show actually executed this better than the game

Hueki

Calling last of us 2 a complex / good story is such a fkin joke LMFAO

Luke Fox

yeah and the gamed sucked too lol

Luke Fox

yikes is forgiveness that hard a concept? I swear people now a days are insufferable. Be acting all righteous online but cant have basic human decentcy smh

Luke Fox

TLOU is a prime example why you just need to quit while you are ahead. There was no need for a sequel and second part proved it. Its surreal watching people experience this garbage for the first time, thought it was common pop culture knowledge.

Krillin It

It is a good story when you dont got some lame ass in your ear whining about it

Krillin It

Game of Thrones killed its main character at the end of Season one. They killed their main cast multiple times. But Last of Us does it and people lose their minds

Bruh I was just excitedly commenting. 😂😭 I have no idea what’s gonna happen. But they’ve freakin mentioned Eugene several times throughout episode 1 and 2. It would just make sense for there to be a flashback about what happened? And Joel killed him so he’d be in the flashback as well. I really didn’t think it was a big leap.

rosa_gris

My condolences for experiencing Joel’s death for the first time. 😅 I was shocked, angry and depressed when it happened in the game. I went through all 5 stages of grief. Multiple times. Joel is one of my favourite characters across all media and I’m emotionally attached to his relationship with Ellie. I wanted to hate the game but... I couldn’t. This story has a lot of nuance and will challenge your emotions, empathy and morals. Part I was my comfort game, but I have a complicated relationship with Part II. It left a profound impact on me and changed my brain chemistry. It is one of the most meaningful stories I’ve ever experienced and I hope you guys get to experience what I did, even if you don’t end up loving the story.

rosa_gris

I actually the changes they made in this episode. Jesse being with Ellie on patrol. Dina being with Joel instead of Ellie. Tommy staying in town instead of being with Joel. It makes a lot of sense, considering future events.

aubrey

@Luke Fox well on the reverse, is not saying a slur that hard of a concept? it’s not righteous to be uncomfortable somebody that would say that to u

𝓓𝓪𝓷𝓪

welp, I binge watched s1 and these 2 eps of s2 through the geks reactions in 2 days just to quit watching now. Yeah, I was too mad yesterday, still am actually. Sorry, but I ain't continuing this show without Joel, literally diabolical

Nrock23

the rest of abby's group in the game are mostly for it, don't know why they changed it, especially for Nora

Krillin It

I thought it was great. Probably one of the best games I've ever played.

Pats

Surprised by the amount of hate for the 2nd game in the comments. It has similar themes to AOT about cycles of violence and vengeance and seeing the parallels between 2 sides/ 2 characters. I always loved the 2nd game so much, it tells an incredible story. I think people get too butt hurt about fictional characters. Excited to see how you guys feel after season 2 and season 3 of this

em1uni

Mf look at your pfp pic 😕👎

Real

Aozora

Just to give perspective, abby's motivation for killing joel is no different than what eren felt to the titans when her mom got eaten. So with that in mind, you can imagine what she feels by recalling what you felt when watching eren lose his mother and using her death as a motivation to obliterate titans off the face of the earth.

Aozora

With abby and joel face to face(similar to when eren and reiner were face to face during the declaration of war) they take a different path to what eren and reiner took which is the path of understanding. But abby took the path of revenge

Mon_d_lu

Spoiler: Yes and those loved one probably would hate you already for killing a pregnant woman and many others, and you did it anyway, because Ellie didnt do it for Joel she did it for her! Its retarded to quit last minute because she remembered then that "oops he might not like this"? after already sacrificing "what Joel" would want. Abbys dad probably wouldn't want his daughter to become a murderer, yet she did, and you and most people give her reason. So why be hypocritical with Ellie, just doesn't make sense, and is completely contradicting to her character.

Sari-chan

I already watched the episode, but I just came to witness the Gekkos getting wrecked real time lol I am sick haha Jokes on me though, my heart broke again. My face is frickin' puffy now
