I get what you were saying about them calling powers Quirks Cannon, my understanding is that not everyone's quirk is benifitial or powerful, the one's who can make their weird quirk into a power do, and the one's who can't just use it in their day to day life like a little trick. I'm not a MHA hater but man it's sad for us Steins;Gate fans. Steins;Gate would've been a nice breath of fresh air as far as what's reacted to and I think has a significantly higher chance of being one of their favorites. On top of that, it would've been a quick binge and MHA could've been reacted to right after. But even ignoring how I feel about the quality of the two series (Steins;Gate being the peak of all fiction and MHA being good), I just think Steins;Gate is also a hype-r reaction. This is just how I feel and is also my last comment on this (and probably in general, I don't really like to comment much).

MHA is fun. It's very stereotypical shonen, so you guys will pick up all the tropes - some character dynamics are copy pastes from other shows and the fan service is... aggressive at times lmao. But otherwise, super fun ride. Season 3 was my fav. Season 6 was awesome. Haven't finished season 7 because I kinda lost steam for it, so maybe I finish it here with you guys lol. Also, just remembered my man, Aizawa. ❤️ Love that guy

They just aren't comparable anime imo. One is a psychological thriller of 25-50episodes and the other is a nearly 100 episode action hype shonen. Unfortunately shonen anime will almost always win polls because of it being a more popular genre. Like if they do another poll with bleach vs Steins gate, most likely bleach would win because almost everyone who voted MHA will vote bleach over Steins gate too. Might be an idea for the geks to split the polls a bit more into categories, unless they are happy to just only watch shonen anime, but I think they definitely prefer the more mature serious animes from time to time to.

Honestly the concept of this series is very cool! It has a lot of fun characters with unique powers and world building . I loved it at the beginning and although as it went on I started having more issues with the writing until it no longer really resonated with me, I still hold fond memories with it. It's a subversive take on superheroes in the art style of Arcane, with Solo Leveling tier action sequences. It's 4 episodes out of 24 total right now so still time to catch on while it's hot!

the issue with MHA is that the highs are very high and the lows are pretty low. It lacks consistency but overall is a good show

Literally! I loved season 1 and 2! OSTs were amazing. 3 was alright, ending made up for the beginning. Afterwards I only enjoyed few fight episodes. I also think Horikoshi lacked confidence to make the show better, in the later parts which brought my attraction to it down. Anyhow, curious to see where they place it!

Yeah on a real note it’s pretty good, especially for a binge. I quite enjoyed the first 4 seasons. 5 wasn’t great imo and I stopped in the middle of 6. I’ll def catch up before the final season in the fall though

Ya seasons 1-3 are well liked. Season 4 is either loved or hated (I liked it). Then the anime adaptation messed up seasons 5 and 6. I ended up reading the manga instead of watching it cuz I didn't want that to impact my opinion on the series. But even plot-wise, that's where lots of the controversial writing decisions/rushing of the story begins, and that carries on till the end.

@zess I watched some bite and full episodes every now and then of the remaining seasons with a live streamer and although there were some good moments, it was like I said, the direction of the show just wasn’t what I liked and the focus not so much either. If I may geek out about the "Deku" thing. It's a play of words but also with the kanji. So Izuku's name in kanji is 出(Izu) 久(ku) but the 出 can be also read as "De", so his name could potentially be read as Deku. However, the "Deku" that Bakugo calls him is 木偶 (lit wooden doll) which carries negative connotations, some people said it comes from the word "Dekunobo" which can be translated as good for nothing, but I'm not sure if that is accurate. Then, Uraraka tells him that it sounds like the world for "you can do it", she is referring to "Dekiru" (出来) I know only very basic Japanese so anyone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but that whole thing with "Deku" always confused me, especially because the subtitles never explained anything lol

While there were some good moments in future episodes, it never re-hooked me and regained my full passion for it again. "He's such a little baby but I love him" - You have no idea how happy I am to hear that Cannon. Izuku is one of the kindest, sweetest and most wholesome MCs in shounen anime. He literally always tries his best and he works SO hard to turn his dream into reality. There are many MANY haters who say that they hate him cause he cries too much, but as an emotional person myself, I've never faulted him for his crybaby tendencies. He's literally a 15 year old going on 16, it's his first year in high school, he received his quirk from his all time favourite hero, and he gets a chance to be the hero he always wanted to be??? Plus he's a nice, all around precious teenager who just wants to do his best in everything?? How can anyone hate him, ugh. I just don't get people some times. Some appreciation for Katsuki's voice actor because Jack pointed it out: Bakugo Katsuki is voiced by the famous Okamoto Nobuhiko! He's a versatile voice actor who has done roles ranging from Shoujo anime(romance aimed at the young female population) to battle shounen like MHA, and his iconic characters include Usui Takumi from Kaichou wa Maid-sama(shoujo), Bakugo Katsuki from MHA, Nishinoya Yuu from Haikyuu(my boy!!!<3) and Shinazugawa Genya from Demon Slayer! He is amazing at using his voice, and he's actually gone so overboard with the voice acting before that he had to be admitted to the hospital for treatment because his vocal cords were damaged in the process. If I'm not wrong, the anime that caused that was actually MHA! He really puts his all into voicing Katsuki, who he says he takes special care to embody! He's honestly a legend in that regard, because his dedication knows no bounds. I'm glad y'all noticed his efforts:)

Cannon, I truly don't care about the quality of the show here, and I never said anything about it in the first place. It's great that you enjoy it, and maybe I would too, but I'm clearly talking about variety. There has been a very significant number of comments in recent animated and live-action polls that have mentioned a lack of variety. Over half of the Patrons didn't vote for MHA, so it makes the most sense to have a third poll to determine what the majority wants. If MHA had won a third poll, then it'd at least reflect the majority. It's a reaction channel at the end of the day, though, so what can I really expect? The more shows of a certain genre that you watch, the more fans of said genre you will attract. I tend to prefer more complex, mature, and/or grounded stories, but a lot of Shonen just don't feel fulfilling in these respects. Funnily enough, my favorite series ever is a shonen anime (Attack on Titan), but it's because it is more fulfilling in these respects, even if I feel it could've done better. I haven't watched an anime series reaction (besides the AoT rewatch) since One Punch and Haikyu, but neither interested me enough to finish. Anyway, I'm just going to unsubscribe once the AoT rewatch and final Planet of the Apes film are uploaded; it's only an extra $2 a month to resubscribe if I lose my legacy tier anyway.

Deku is a different way of reading the kanji of his given name. Bakugou uses it bcs it is a homophone to another word that means: useless person or good for nothing. But in the english translations it is treated as a mix of DEfensless izuKU

To clarify the school nurse's quirk, she can only stimulate the body's natural ability to heal. She can't cause unhealable injuries and scars to be healed. People can't regrow organs (like All Might's stomach) or heal scars on their own, so Recovery Girl can't heal them, either.

A translation note regarding Izuku's nickname: You might know that Japanese characters can be read differently depending on the context. In this case, The last Japanese character in the name "Izuku" can be read as "Deku". Kacchan uses "Deku" in reference to the word "dekunobou", which means "good for nothing" or "useless person". So Izuku grows up hearing that all of his life. But then Ochaco Uraraka comes along and tells him it sounds like "dekiru", a Japanese word that means "I can do it". That's the exact opposite of a useless person. She flipped his entire worldview on his nickname with one simple sentence. Also, as a side note, Izuku's nickname for Katsuki, "Kacchan", is a thing that people who are close in some way sometimes do. It's a sort of nickname. It's the first syllable of his name plus the Japanese honorific "-chan". Eps 1-3 Feels good seeing Mckay also only watched two seasons the first time, solidarity! Midoriya’s baby self really tugged on my heart strings this time around. Cannon, agreed I thought Bakugo would immediately be my goat and then was annoyed as hell with him! Not sure if you clock it later in the series but his VA is Nishinoya from Haikyuu (and Tenya is Kageyama). Really interested in where the quirks came from now, like how did they just appear….also so many shoe/foot imagery. Wondering if that’s symbolizing taking the road less travelled or if it’s gunna be part of a twist.
