LETS GO!

Oriem

❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥

Sean Carroll

Cannon just finished a business meeting clearly

Cynicwound223

You mightve mentioned it before, but where's brigg??

DAI

i cant watch it now cuz im still at work but I KNOW this is a big lore episode! I wanna watch it too :(

DAI

left the group to pursue another carrier(a.k.a. got a job offer in his profession)

Yoshi

A book just fell on my head. I only have my shelf to blame

Neemz

Cannon is that meme of the kid wearing PJs vs a suit for what he cares about and of course it’s for a Joel episode hahah

Cynicwound223

Id be so down to see yall play the games!!🔥

Conk

Cannon doing Denji cosplay?? Just need a wig

leah

so quick omg!!! best episode that covers some of the best moments in the game. the porch scene was PERFECT

TheBookerDeWitt

As someone who absolutely adores both games, I think the show has been amazing so far, S1 and S2.

Philbo

i mentioned this either last week or the week before but you really wont understand why the game and now the show specifically this season had the fanbase so divided until you guys go through the games yourself and see the all the changes theyve made. they have made quite alot of changes (Some good but others really bad IMO) to the point that the game and the show are damn near two different stories atp

TheSauceGuy

The show is certainly different, but still good. When you begin to compare them, I feel the show pales in comparison to the games, at least in certain areas. I think some aspects of the show are arguably better though, like the additional background of the Seraphites and WLF.

TheSauceGuy

When you talk about playing the games, what time frame does "ASAP" entail lol?

Cannon Andrus

Best acting that we’ve seen of the year imo

TheBookerDeWitt

Yeah Id say the games are certainly better, but also the shows genuinely has been killing it. The actors/actresses, the soundtrack, the sets and effects. I mean, its by far the best video game to show/movie adaptation Ive ever seen.

TheSauceGuy

Am I the only one who saw Cannon's fit and immediately thought of Denji from CSM?

a_daichi

Look at me! I’m on a motherfuckin’ dinosaur!

Conk

I made a comment about it

Arkani

what are the changes you considered bad?

Nasty

Think mostly stopped watching because of "Ellie" such a big misscast.

Judy

It's good that they put that conversation in the middle of the season, in the game that scene was at the end of the game, or near the end. Also, people dislike the game because the sequencing was a bit... like they would make you play as Abby with barely a backstory for her after she kills Joel.

GreetswithJudgement

Jack either cooks so hard or not at all 😂 there’s no in between and it’s always so funny, especially since it’s always him against the rest. He stands his ground the way young Joel stood his ground against his father just now. Never stop being you, Jack!

JoLen

This is really peak. I’m curious how you’ll react to the game, because a lot of people are hating on the show. I personally love both, so im hoping yall enjoy the game as well

Philbo

i made a post about it on the last video, its like a long ass post lol just keep it brief, its the changes they have made to both Ellie and Dina's Characters and there dynamic. its the changes they did with Tommy, I hated the 3 month time skip. there is more and i kinda thoroughly explained it in the post in the previous video so if you care enough then you can go look at it there but yeah

Philbo

yeah i had (Still have) an issue with them not recasting for this season cause she looks exactly the same she did last season even after such a large time skip. but i care more about the story changes than that

TheBookerDeWitt

Wow, that was incredible. I teared up. The acting this episode took the story to a whole new level. I'd do it all again.

Melizé

That was an effing good episode. Holding back my tears for real for real 🥺

Saki 🏴‍☠️✨❤️‍🔥

at one point ellie did say she talked to joel after (i think it was to jessie or dina earlier on? cant remember) but it wasnt expanded upon, so it was hinted at but easy enough to forget their potential reconciliation - also cuz she sarcastically lied to gail in the hospital lol

Lexi Browning

As good as the acting is in this show, I just can't get behind some of the thought process for the writing. The substance behind the characters' motives and actions is lacking so much. Ellie holding a grudge against Joel for 9 months because she watched him lie to someone like he did to her does not hit like Ellie holding a grudge against Joel for 2 years after Joel tells her the truth about what happened in Salt Lake (while they're standing in Salt Lake in the remnants of what Joel did). Also, when he reveals it in the show, she wants to try and forgive him 15 seconds later??? The entire game is revolved around us thinking Joel died unforgiven with a broken heart until we see the porch scene in the very last scene of the game. I understand the show has to change things, but changing the foundation is just wacky

GreetswithJudgement

My second favorite episode of the whole show. This is what I like. Damn, just looking at him this episode makes me so sad. He’s lonely. He’s purposeless. He just tries his best or think he’s doing his best and nothing is right by anyone. He’s a lose lose character. Such a good contrast to the opening scene with him and his father. It feels like he doesn’t want to become him so he instead becomes passive. Still team, Joel. But I need more Tommy pretty soon.

Prince

Man, this was probably my favorite episode of the entire show. And to what you guys were talking about on what people would rate it on IMDB at the end there. If the episode was fantastic or just decent it's going to get review bombed regardless from people who already made up their mind on how they feel about The Last of Us part 2. So, for this season in particular I wouldn't pay too much attention to what the ratings are since the story that's being adapted is so divisive amongst the fans.

a_daichi

I just finished the episode on my own and WOW. Exceeded my expectations honestly. The last conversation with Ellie and Joel… I did not think we’d get a longer version and man did it hurt all while being beautiful. The acting was phenomenal. Might be my favorite episode so far!

Arkani

i see, ill check it out, i just have a vague overview of the game story but i do know some of the choices that made people really hate the way the game handled it

a_daichi

Why wouldn’t she want to try to forgive him? Even though she’s angry with him and knows he has been lying about something, she still loves him. It’s a very frustrating thing to go through but the love is still there

Sinbad

I think its important to note that yes, The Last of Us Part 2 was divise when it came out for a multitude of reasons, many of those reasons lessened my faith in alot of the gaming community, but the game is still held in high regards by much of the fanbase, sold very well, was one of the highest rated games of that year, and won tons of game of the year awards from outlets. Much of what you're seeing is pulled directly from the game even some moments like that final porch scene is line for line pulled directly from the game. Despite little tweaks here and there to adapt to a different medium, I still think this goes to show just how well the second games writing still holds up.

GreetswithJudgement

This episode isn’t good, Cannon. It’s actually great. IMO. Coming from someone who doesn’t really love this series. But this is what I needed from this show. Joel. He is the heart of it. Whether he’s breaking ours into pieces or trying to put the pieces back together again.

Sissy Six

that final conversation had me UGLY CRYING INTO MY CAT. then sobbed again watching this reaction. need to go to bed im wrecked.

Jude

I don't know how long it's been since I cried like that for a show. That scene between them was so well done.

Jesse Herrera

I'm glad Carter is sticking up for Joel's death. It was necessary for the story to progress.

a_daichi

they haven’t said when yet

.

Me too

Spideycain

Did yall see that Joel got his dads watch that’s new to me

.

Deadass

Kite

wow indeed, imagine thinking this show is bad. Can't wait to see y'all play the game too

.

Tbf I can see what people are saying about season 2 but this episode I can’t see it happening

.

It would make sense to after they finish season 2

leah

people tend to hate the game MAINLY because of joel dying. there’s definitely other things people complain about that i can’t say because of spoilers but that is the main reason. i will also say, i fear this episode is going to be hated by MANY game fans simply because in the structure of the game, that last conversation between ellie and joel is placed at a VERY different point in the game. and it does make sense where the game has it, but i also think it makes sense that the show it giving it to us this early. coming from someone who has over 500 hours in tlou2, i absolutely loved this episode. there were quite a few additions in dialogue that weren’t in the game and ALL of them were great. and then the moments that were in the game were nearly bar for bar in the show. i’m so glad you guys loved this episode because ive already seen some losers online trashing it. for me personally, it’s a 9.5/10

Jessica

Fuck me I haven’t watched the episode yet but I know I’m gonna be bawling 😭😭😭

Ron Jackson Jr

Selling some dj toenail beats anyone want some. Ik u Carter want some for sure

studiogek

So guys….did Joel’s dad walk back out the front door or down tommys hallway😂😂

Conk

Outside

Slizzle

Really good episode tho it’s annoying how they’re changing random stuff from the game, the whole Joel killing Eugene thing and joel lying to Ellie about it didn’t even exist in the game, they just invented it to make some point or whatever, there’s a buncha other things that they keep changing too which is annoying, what makes it worse is that in s1 they followed the game pretty one to one but in s2 now they decided to make more changes, changes that aren’t improvements to the story but the opposite

Lexi Browning

I agree that she definitely has to forgive him out of love, but the game did it the correct way where the pain of the truth was fully felt by her. In the show, Ellie forgave in the same conversation he told her about what happened. In the game, Joel told her the truth and it took 2 years for her to forgive him. For her entire life, Ellie believed she was cursed because everyone she had ever loved died or turned. When you realize you're not the curse but actually cure to the world, it takes more than 30 seconds to forgive someone for taking that away

1999

Brig would’ve been hype to see the goat Lalo

Lexi Browning

I've been trying so hard to separate my experience with the game from my experience with the show. I can imagine how amazing this episode might have been for those who have never played it. For me, it was great, but everything about it still felt so much weaker than the game and it's all because of the changes that I just can't understand the need for. Also, I'm cool with the structure, but not the substance used to get to that porch scene.

DAI

that's not even funny D:

DAI

Alright finnaly got back to home and watched this ep. This might be controversial but I like this episode the best in S2. I kow this isn't how the game went because she didn't go back to the hospital but I like this a lot.

DAI

I don't speak English that well so I am clueless here but I still am amazed how Bella speaks "perfect" American English. Is it easy for you to switch accents like this? I've seen lots of actors who were so bad at imitating accents so I always thought it's hard.

ggr

SPOILER ALERT People don't hate that Joel dies in the game, they hate how they have to play as the character who killed him for like 10 hours after while they are trying to make you sympathize with them when it's almost impossible to do knowing they killed your favourite character, wherever justified or not.

.

For this episode everything they added was perfect

Milan Jovanovic

How is this episodes plot worse than the game it pushes the same point in a concise manner to fit one episode I just can’t understand the reasons people are annoyed at this show it’s just not that big of a deal to ruin the show

Milan Jovanovic

Bro I love this game so much and I think the show is a decent adaptation they have made changes and not all of them land but there is not enough bad in the show to ruin the story as I see so many game fans saying

DAI

The "See you next year" was a dad joke? I didn't get it.

.

^

.

Average obito fan has taste

NMP

This was the best episode in a while and I don’t think it’s a coincidence that it’s the first one of the season written by Neil Druckman (guy who made the games). However, and I really hate to be the guy keep harping on the game being better, but I just don’t understand a lot of the decisions they’re making in terms of moving stuff around. There’s a scene here that isn’t supposed to be seen until the very end of the game. You spend the entire time thinking they ended off on a bad note and you don’t see that she was actually willing to start to forgive him until the very end, after she’s hit rock bottom and gone further, because trust me things get a lot worse and a lot more brutal for her, and then when she’s at her absolute lowest she remembers that night on the porch and you realize why she can’t let go, but also it’s a kind of a bittersweet ending because it suggests maybe one day she’ll be able to move on… Like they did the scene great but I just don’t know why they would blow their load on it this early when it feels like Ellie has barely just started dipping her toes into revenge and losing herself.

Rebecca

Best episode of the season!! I love my man Joel, the dad we all need. Pedro and Bella had me crying there so I loved it. Also whoever played Eugene was really good at being vulnerable, just made me feel so bad for the guy. I think the only thing for me is that because they showed ellie and joel starting to reconcile, the night before Joel abruptly died, I wish they showed Ellie having more drive, frustration, and anger after his death and during this whole journey

Alan

Okay Cannon! You dapper lad you

Rebecca

i'm okay with moving the scene - in the games, it's the best where it is and obviously, the game is better but in the show, im okay with it. Obviously, it's not as effective putting it here and I don't know how ending is gonna work but I'm just accepting it lol EDIT: I thought about it more and now i'm more conflicted lol but im not gonna lie, i have lower standards for the show and they've already changed a lot so im gonna accept it - i just hope the ending doesnt fall flat

Alan

And jack you were right at the beginning don’t let them gaslight you 😂

Rebecca

Arkani, for me, the biggest crux or worst change is Ellie's demeanor. I don't care if Bella is playing her or not, but Ellie's character is what gets me the most. I haven't felt any real sense of vengeance or intensity from Ellie except for when she was confronted with Nora. The show's tone feels very diluted, it's not as raw or dark and it just doesn't carry that same depth for me. I don't hate the show, but that's my biggest gripe

Grimm

It so funny people who haven't played the games reaction to the show. It's basically like how the people reacted to when the 2nd game 1st came out. People really only liking the Joel flashbacks. But yes that "powerful" scene was at the end of the game which is so weird for them to put it here because without giving spoilers, it was so much more powerful at the end. For people who played the game this episode is just going to be full of people saying "what are the writers or Neil Druckmann doing".

Rebecca

I feel like a lot of ppl who hate tlou2 haven't played the game all the way through - obviously it's gonna be hard to continue when joel dies and you have to play as abby but i dont think most haters gave it a fair chance in the first place. And that's not to say there aren't fair criticisms, there are reasons I can see why someone wouldn't enjoy tlou2 compared to tlou like the pacing or the time skipping, but overall, i don't trust anyone's opinion when they act like it's the worst game and dog on it like it has nothing good to offer

Grimm

I always thought the plot of the game would've been so much better if it was a TV show instead because lets be real forcing people to play Abby 5+ hours of gameplay after killing Joel was such a bad move. People here can say whatever but the fact is during the time the community was not happy. Which brings me to say I do not get why they are trying to switch up things that isn't working clearly.

NMP

Also I love the game personally and agree with Carter but u gotta remember the game was leaked months in advance. People saw entire cutscenes out of context. And there’s a lot of “those” people who got angry that their epic manly gaming hero gets murdered by a buff woman and turned it into some “woke” political thing. It had been 7 years since the first game came out so a lot of people spent forever living in this world where the first story was perfect and untouchable and where Joel and Ellie lived happily ever after. Also a big reason why the game was divisive you won’t see until season 3 starts which is something where again I love what they ended up doing there but I can understand why people were so angry and resistant to it at the time.

NMP

This episode was the best in a long time but the movement of the porch scene is super frustrating

Grimm

@Milan Jovanovic I see valid criticism. 1 Abby is meant to be yoked out of her mind just for her to beat Joel to death. 2 They made Ellie like some ditzy teenager when she is mean to be a raged out to find Abby. Is it enough to hate the show? eeeh no but it's valid for people who played the game to criticize it, mainly the writers/director imo.

NMP

I agree, the main part for me is everything feels too “easy”. Ellie finds out the truth and then forgives him 5 seconds later. Rather than spending years grappling with the truth, how Joel lied to her, their relationship being so strained felt like such a bigger deal. In the game we don’t see this scene until the very end of the game, when Ellie has hit rock bottom, and the player straight up wants her to stop, and she’s basically ruined her entire life, only then do you see her remember the porch scene and it recontextualizes the entire story while also ending on a bittersweet note that one day she might be able to move on. It doesn’t feel “earned” to have this scene already when she’s been written as a happy go lucky kid all season and barely dipped her toes into revenge and losing herself to anger and violence until Nora like five seconds ago.

NMP

They also won’t fully understand until they get to season 3 and realize the structure of the story. Lot of tv viewers are gonna be in for an “adjustment” period and I think it’ll be even worse than the game reactions because there’s gonna be 2-3 years in between.

Alan

It was new years

Roan Gomez

I loved the game. I loved this episode but TBH, I still find the game to be so much better as you can really feel Ellie’s resentments, joy, grief and regrets. It was a wild ride of emotions. To each their own though. The acting in this episode is top notch. The game was so divisive to the point that two subreddits exist - one that’s predominantly haters and another one for those who believe it’s a masterpiece. I think it’s a masterpiece but I’m not gonna trigger anyone by saying more. I’ve had my fair share of debates with other gamers about it for the last 5 years.

Alannah Caldwell

Hot take, but IMO most people who hate on the second game are psychopaths who lack empathy. I Liked the scene after the dance here more than the game, as you can see all the emotions on their faces, top tier acting.

DAI

still don't get it lol

Sarah Rosa

I wish you guys would watch adolescence on Netflix!! I feel like you would enjoy it a lot and appreciate it. ( I thought abt it when they mentioned generational trauma)

Roan Gomez

Let me hold your hand, buddy. On New Year’s Eve (Dec 31st), the following day is considered “next year.” Hope that helps.

DAI

so? he was gonna tuck his kid into the bed and come back later, then it would be already the next day so he was like saying "see you tomorrow" right? I don't get what's so "dad joke" about it :(

Goatchis

Way to boil down all the real criticisms of the plot structure and character writing of the game to a narrative that suits you as a fan, very nuanced of you

Roan Gomez

That’s a fair point but I think most people who hated the game were more invested in Joel as the main character. Understandable since we all played as him for about 85% of Part I. The people who loved Part II — myself included — are more interested in a good story (on top of good gameplay, of course), regardless of who the playable characters are.

ggr

i definitely like how we are reminded that he is just another person in that world so even though we are attached to him from part 1 if we played part 1 with Abbey and Joel got introduced and killed her we would all hate Joel

leah

nah they’re right

leah

imo, abby’s half of the game is better in every way so to me, it wasn’t a “bad move” lol. of course the first time i played it i was pissed but by the time day two roles around, my opinion on abby had changed so much for the better.

leah

it’s very refreshing to watch you guys watch the show having not played the game first. 95% of the people who have criticisms of the show only have them because they’re comparing it to something else. like no shit if you compare every tiny detail to the game, you’re gonna find that parts might be missing, but if you look at the show as a separate entity, it really is great. it’s an adaptation… it was never gonna be bar for bar. adaptations usually never are! coming from someone who has played tlou2 13 times, i obviously have my criticisms but i only have them because i’m comparing elements i dislike about the show to a game i love so much.

Reileen

Cannon looks so good ~`,、('∀`) '`,、

ggr

Good job calling half the community psychopaths,if anything the creators lacked empathy for the community by brutally killing Joel off and forcing to play as his murderer.

Mitch

I hate on the second game because of messy pacing, poor narrative structure, weak contrived writing, one note characters, and repetitive gameplay loops.

Mitch

I mean u can’t tell me Abby’s physique which literally cannot be maintained without steroids isn’t weird or off putting, especially in a post apocalyptic environment.

TheSauceGuy

Minor dinosaur nerd rant incoming, you have been warned. Dinosaurs are interesting because almost everyone refers to them by their genus name, rather than their species. With Tyrannosaurus rex, most people abbreviate the Tyrannosaurus to get T. rex. Some other well-known dinosaurs would look like this if we used the same method here: S. aegyptiacus (Spinosaurus), T. horridus (Triceratops), and S. Stenops (Stegosaurus). I imagine this had to do with Jurassic Park (and media in general) finding T. rex sounded cooler, so they stuck with it.

Ksenia Rekun

Cannon in this episode distractes me so hard...

Ninjinzo

people aren't mad because it's a girl and a buff woman killed joel. It aint about the appearance or the sex. It's how he died 5 minutes into the damn game even though he was the real reason why last of us 1 was great. He died a tragic sad and a shitty death that had 0 meaning at all to the gamers. Plus add on to the fact the game forces you to play as the killer of Joel for HALF THE PLAYTHROUGH. You can't deny these critiques. Of course there are some positives to the game like the gameplay being more smoother and enjoyable but that's just it. The game would've been so much better if they gave Joel a much more meaningful better way of dying than to just die to his name getting leaked, trusting outsiders easily (which is so fucking stupid) and dying to a damn golf club.

Ninjinzo

i think bro is just saying that the scenes felt better with the game. I am very worried that the ending is just gonna fall flat since they moved the ending scene from the game to the middle. Which held alot of emotional value for an ending and with Joel. In my own honest opinion. This scene they did was great however overall still the game did every other scene better especially the bullshit 'AM I A FATHER NOW?' rather than ellie actually thinking in reality for once on what her situation is. Bullshit changes like that are horrible and it honestly feels like the show version of Ellie is VERY different to game Ellie, in a bad way.

Ninjinzo

the only reason why it's good is cos joel is in it

TheSauceGuy

Eugene is an entirely different character in the game, and I don't think you ever even see him, let alone hear about him much. We learn he died from a stroke at 73 and was once a Firefly, but that's about it from the game itself, IIRC. I somewhat like the change in the show as it gives him more purpose.

Ninjinzo

the 'AM I A FATHER NOW.' change is just a big shitter of glob goop poop bro

Ninjinzo

well that something else is the main source. It's just like Tokyo Ghoul anime changing scenes from the manga. Not saying it's the same as that but it's similar in that sense as to why people aren't happy about it. Not to mention certain scenes are not done as well compared to the game.

Nasty

It's an average show at best. Ellie and Dina having their best time of their lifes, laughing at each other and being all goofy in such a dangerous world with zombies and bandits could be anywhere, like not a care in the world. Story changes a bit here and there from the game. So far Dina is the one carrying the show, she is being a better Ellie then the actual Ellie lol. Ellie looks the exact same as she did in first season, Huge misscast of her even from season 1. Her acting was fine in GOT but not here i would say. She acts all the time like a teenager when she is supposed to be in her twentis and it's not belivable at all that she can take down full grown men at all in close combat.

leah

again though, it’s an adaptation. look at the harry potter books compared to the movies or the hunger games or twilight or WHATEVER. i could give a million examples where people who were fans of the source material yapped and complained about EVERYTHING when the movie/show adaptation came out but people who had never watched/played/read the source material loved it! it’s okay to have complaints and criticisms, i know i do, but try to let others enjoy it even if you don’t lol

Grimm

@Roan Gomez that's completely wrong because I remember being on forums before the game came out and people were already speculating Joel was going to die and was happy to play Ellie. People were even happy to play Abby after seeing the very 1st trailer where it shows her hanging and people thought that was Ellie's mother. Which was the main reason people were upset with the plot of the game. They thought they would get more in depth of Ellie and the infection instead they went to the most overdone concept which is revenge = bad.

Kim 555

What's annoying is wanting the adaptation to be a copy paste replica of the game without interesting minor plots. Joel killing Eugene after he promises Ellie not to, triggered her questioning towards Joel lying to her in her face which made her want to face him more. It made the story more interesting to me and I would've HATED it, if it was exactly how the game did it

TheSauceGuy

They had that dialogue between Joel and Ellie this early? That's actually quite a big change, but not necessarily a bad one. It can go either way, but I prefer where they put it in the game. I like the addition of the "I hope you do a little better than me" line.

Kim 555

before season 2 aired the same people who criticized Bella's look and said Bella is too ugly to be Ellie and that a prettier actor should've been cast are now saying "Bella can't look intimidating", "she doesn't look old enough" mind you Bella was the same age as Ellie while filming and they even suggested changing her. Without Bella this show would've been hard to swallow for me. Also minor changes from the game complainers are soooo lame, god forbid a writer makes an adaptation more interesting

MateoP

Glad I haven’t watched S2 of this show 😁 cheeeks

TheSauceGuy

Oh wow, Neil Druckmann directed this episode. He was the creative director and co-writer for the second game.

TheSauceGuy

If next episode is what I think it is, it'll be very interesting.

NMP

They did a good job but I just find it so frustrating they did it here because it’s such a beautiful and heart breaking gut punch at the end of the game. It hits so much harder when you see it happen at Ellie’s absolute lowest. It doesn’t feel “earned” to do it now when she’s killed like one person and is just starting to actually go off the deep end and lose herself in revenge.

NMP

She’s only 19 in the game, to be fair. One could argue she seems a little too old in the game but way too young in the show

NMP

Yea Eugene is a big improvement than in the game

NMP

It’s not “comparing every tiny little detail”, people’s biggest complaints are that Ellie feels like a completely different character and is being written way differently which is completely valid given that this part of the second game is supposed to be *hers* especially knowing how season 3 is going to work structurally. She’s supposed to be driving the plot forward in Seattle but it feels like she’s a sidekick in her own half of the story.

TheSauceGuy

It's one thing to complain about something missing, but it's another to complain about changes lessening the impact of certain scenes. Changes to characters and missing/rearranged plot points can significantly impact the story as a whole.

leah

i don’t disagree lol like i said, i have complaints too but a huge portion of people watching the show are comparing and contrasting EVERYTHING which is why it’s getting the amount of hate it is by gamers only. the geks for example, don’t have anything to compare ellie’s personality to because they’ve never played the game. if you have, obviously it’s hard to separate your thoughts from the original text but most of the people who are throughly enjoying this season have not played the game

NMP

Like if even the guys here have spent a lot of this season saying stuff like “she isn’t locked in” “why does it feel like she forgot about her revenge” when they have 0 context from the games, it feels like a valid criticism to some extent

leah

right.. i don’t disagree!

leah

i agree bro 😭😭 but they also seem to be enjoying the show for the most part! i’m just saying it’s cool to see their reactions because they’re going into this story completely blind whereas a lot of the viewers aren’t which is why it’s getting the hate it is. imo, last nights episode was perfect and i have over 500 hours in the game. but then i go online and see people all over the place non-stop complaining because “they didn’t include this” “they didn’t include that”… if you didn’t have anything to compare it to, you wouldn’t be missing anything lol

Slizzle

When did I say it ruined the show? I just made one criticism, I can’t do that without thinking the whole show is ruined? You’re replying to other people’s criticisms, not mine lol

TheSauceGuy

I wouldn't call them "psychopaths without empathy" lol. I think there are perfectly valid criticisms of the second game, but I think that MOST people who complained about it mentioned the same couple of points. You can't appeal to everyone, especially when pushing the boundaries. I think the criticisms I'd most agree with would relate to the pacing/setting of the game, which is (for better or worse) all over the place; some people might just not like that.

TheSauceGuy

I think the main difference is that show only viewers would have to wait 2-3 years for that to even be revealed, and it might lose its weight by that time.

vicc

It was a really great episode. Even though I haven't been enjoying Bella's performance overall, she nailed it in that final scene with Joel. But as much as I really liked this episode, there's only one left until the end of the season 😢 maybe they could've balanced the past and present better too.

vicc

Cannon looking dang good

TheSauceGuy

Also, I think she'll kill far fewer people in the show, as the game has to add people to kill as a gameplay mechanism. I'd imagine the sheer amount of people you can kill as Ellie might not be canon, at least if you kill EVERY SINGLE person you come across.

TheSauceGuy

With the number of girls I've seen glaze him (valid tho) and some of the questionable comments that I've seen elsewhere, I don't know how bro struggles to get a girlfriend. Does he have a million checkboxes or something lol?

Slizzle

Bruh s1 had new interesting minor plots which were good like the Bill stuff, in s2 they’re not adding minor plots they are changing them, eugene dies from old age and here joel killing him instead is NOT a minor plot like you said, and it’s not just one thing, there’s many things, for example they’ve made ellie incompetent in many ways especially in last episode in that dialogue with dina at the start of the episode which is not just a change from the game it’s literally a change from s1 ( which even the actor of dina from the game criticized), if you know ellie you know she’s smart and competent. I love tlou but the community is very toxic where one side just trashes it with no end and calls it the worst thing ever and the other side don’t even let you criticize a single thing about it, it’s social media war culture, it was the same when the second game came out, it’s just kinda sad

vicc

sorry bro but feels a little off to talk like that about someone’s personal life you don’t actually know

vicc

It's not that deep, just something dads usually say

Cannon Andrus

Woah woah I appreciate sauceguy guys and it’s fine to talk about my dating life haha I consider all you guys friends. I’ve streamed swiping hinge and stuff and had ex girlfriends on the channel, it’s totally fine

Cannon Andrus

Dai I hate when this stuff happens to me, but this thread killed me 😭😂

Sari-chan

I did not know there was a controversy around the second game. My husband is a HUGE fan of the game AND the show, and really appreciates the liberty they took on the show to develop some characters and create some others. It makes sense because in games beside the MC everyone else feel like a NPC, but in a show it serves the story to build up more fleshed out characters around the MCs and bring more depth and weigh to the main storyline. Also, totally watched the show prior to coming here, but had to see you guys shed a tear haha. I laugh but I am actually so devastated AGAIN

Sari-chan

I love a dinosaur rant! My eyes are puffy but I learned something today!

Sari-chan

It is so weird to think of the characters Pedro has been playing, and how he is a Father figure (The Mandolorian and Joel) when in reality he is not (that I know of) and looks goofy AF in interviews. He is truly a great actor haha

Mufufu

You can notice Neil Druckmann, such a good director

Jack Dan

The incoming AOT drop about to be generational, can’t wait

Conk

Im your friend?? Im going to so much more parasocial now!!!

Crogadile

Oscar level really ? The bar is incredbily low holy

Jessica

McKay also a cutie 😘

Jessica

Having Neil direct this episode was so perfect. It was so beautiful, all the scenes from the game and the fillers were aaaaamazing. Didn’t expect the last scene so early but man that was probably the best scene….give an Emmy to both of them now!!! Gonna miss Pedro and Joel 💔

Jessica

Also lalo 👀 Tony dalton being Joel’s dad was brilliant

Jessica

I’m so positive they’re gonna end it on thaaaat scene… and the reactions will be interesting 🤐

Jenu

last of us cool af, but pls, this aot drop, us uk lot need it now ;()

Jessica

Okay so the scenes that are directly from the game is the spaceship scene which is almost a copy from the game 😭 the whole dinosaur + museum scene was from the game as well + the last porch scene and joel singing future days

GreetswithJudgement

Haha nothing wrong with Cannon. He’s the catch. Everyone else is simply not good enough!

Olivia

This episode has been the most game accurate by far, hence the much better writing (no offense to the show lolol). The games just have my heart, but Pedro did outstanding as Joel sooo emotional through this whole episode 💔

Mysterious Figure

To me, the decision to put that scene so early compared to the game, where it is at the very end, tells me that Neil Druckman actually probably had no idea what he was doing while he was directing the game, because the reason why that scene landed so great in the game must NOT have been his decision. That scene NEEDS to be at the very end, because it is so pivotal and critical to the whole story of the game - REVENGE. The scene in question, and the EXACT MOMENT where we see it, shows that revenge ISNT more worth, or stronger than what someone that loves us would want us to be, or to do with our life. It shows that if someone believes in you, loves you, it will make you into a person that will want to honor that love and the very reason you were worth it. The reason Ellie decides against revenge is because she remembers what Joel wants for her and how he sees her, and she doesnt want to turn into something that would disappoint him and that would make her feel shame if he saw what she had become. So, Neil Druckman not understanding that, as shown by his directorial decision in the tv show, literally tells me someone else in the Santa Monica game studio saved the game and the story from his incompetence.

Mysterious Figure

Cannon, why are you all dressed up? You can't just show up looking that fine but then zero explanation. Come on... 👀

ShadowCat

Damn, that episode was heartbreaking. Im glad they didnt show any parts of Joel's death again. But now that I know him and Ellie were on the mend, him lifting his head, trying to get up when she's yelling at him in those final moments, makes my heart hurt even more. Because he'd do anything to earn that forgiveness back 😭

Soli B.A

@Mitch I can and will tell you that Abby's physique is not weird or off putting, especially considering her post apocalyptic home base.

Mysterious Figure

The "peak" scene as you guys have described it is tied to the most critical moment in Ellie's character development in the video game version. This scene being shown SO EARLY in the tv show instead at the moment where it is shown in the game will completely break the most important character moment for Ellie where she has THE biggest conflict within herself, which THIS pivotal scene completely and beautifully resolves. It is THE REASON for the resolution of the whole story. THAT SCENE is THAT important. And in the tv show they decided to reveal it in the middle of the story LMAO?! That scene in the game AND in the overall narrative serves as something that perfectly summarizes the WHOLE point of the entirety of the story, ONLY if it is shown AT THAT very moment in the story in the game, AFTER Ellie has gone through everything in the whole story. After every bad decision she made and after everything went from bad to worse, and to such horrible lows... at her very bottom she remembers THIS scene with Joel and she remembers his eyes... and for us the audience the scene is also a reveal that they DID actually talk and have some forgiveness and some closure before he died... so ONLY then does the WHOLE story, and the WHOLE struggle that Ellie, and WE the audience went through will truly make sense and then you can understand WHY everything that Ellie went through to take revenge wasn't what she needed... So, if you haven't played the game and you don't have the context of all the events that take place, there is no way you can understand how THAT scene CANNOT take place before the time it is shown in the game, or else it doesn't really serve the purpose that NARRATIVELY it is supposed to... the only purpose it served in the TV SHOW, was to give the viewers some relief and to show that Ellie and Joel DID have some closure... but that isn't the full story of the show, or the story of The Last of Us. The tv show version of the story or the characters cannot really hold a candle to the game version.

Roan Gomez

I stand corrected then. But that doesn’t take away from the fact that many people also loved Part II despite other people hating it. To me, the story was so moving and brilliantly done. If people didn’t like it, then I could see it being valid as well.

Cannon Andrus

Church! I was too tired to change lol

Roan Gomez

I loved the game and I was also taken aback when they showed that so early but I feel like they are cooking something else for the show. Let’s trust the process.

Koinu

This might be the only episode so far this season I’ve liked more than the game. The tie in from Joel and his dad to Joel and Ellie was so damn heartbreaking. Definitely one of the few episodes of anything I’ve watched that’s going to stick in my head for years to come.

Jmann

I was starting to worry that this show died when Joel died, but ep 5 was alright and this episode was great. This episode actually felt like an hbo production where as ep 3 and 4 felt almost Disney at moments and there seemed to be a steep drop off in writing and production quality. I’m glad we finally got the flashbacks of their time together, it was very emotional. I haven’t played the games so I have no clue what will happen next, I’m a little worried about the quality of the rest of the season. Season 1 was incredible and I hope I’m not disappointed.

MercerTSG

This show is really good when the vocal minority isn't in your ear telling you it's shit.

ShadowCat

Oh my gosh, I just realized, Joel was so determined about getting Ellie a cake every year because he forgot to get one in the first episode with his daughter 😭

Pats

You guys have to play the game if you loved this episode. Majority of this episode is straight from the game, it’s incredible 👏🏼

CoLdBITeR

I'm dead McKay 💀

Frosty

This is why I don’t want you to play the game till after the shows done lol, people watch that and are still complaining… not having that in the reactions is nice

Nivek

Ain’t no way bro…

Nivek

I love this show so much, didn’t play any games, just knew about Joel. But man some of the shit Ellie does really is cringey. I feel like I have to play the games to know if it was this…awkward I guess 🤷🏽‍♂️ Edit: this doesn’t apply to this porch scene holy fuck

Nivek

Pedro is fucking carry this shit like fucking Atlas on my entire soul.

Nivek

I haven’t seen those comments yet but that’s madness

a_daichi

psychopaths is unnecessary as someone that does love the 2nd game…

a_daichi

Leah I am also liking the show so far as I know everything that will happen! I also really enjoy Abby’s part too a little more 🫢

Lydia

I just watched this episode and I am in literal shambles.

a_daichi

true but the game is so fun idk if I can wait that long 😭

tomlette

Are you telling me the last exchange between Joel and Tommy was “see you next year” ?!😭💔 seeing joel try so hard to show love to Ellie and cling to their connection as it fell apart over the years?! that porch scene?! this episode destroyed me.

tomlette

Also Joel’s watch is the watch his dad was wearing in the beginning scene 💀

DAI

Wait... I was just rewatching this episode and Jack might be right...When Joel sent Tommy to his room the kitchen was on his left and the window was straight ahead from Tommy's perspective. Then the dad came through the front door and from him the kitchen/fridge was in front of him. After the "talk", the dad went to the direction which the windows are straight ahead and the kitchen was on his left...wait a sec.

jrnoodles

Thank you! Wow right in the feels Joel, nice. :'(

Guy

then they'll HAVE to play the game

Moonpowpow

please play and upload both game playthroughs. the games are amazing and you get to know the characters so much better.

Luke Fox

minority? is that why the show has a 39% of rotten tomatoes and a 4.0 on metacritic? I mean this show even lost grace randolph and that woman loves absolutely everything she watches.

Sweede TW

Man this was one of the roughest things I've watched in a while

Chérie

No, he was leaving the house from the front door, where he came in.
