Well, yes Cannon, there are happy K-dramas out there 🤣— Stay strong ✊🏾 Anyway, that’s something I really like about K-dramas in general. I haven’t watched many (no more than 10), but for me, the main point is how they handle deep and meaningful themes — and how well they make you feel them. It’s not just about happiness or sadness, but everything in between. I think K-dramas are really good at making you feel intrigued, creeped out, excited… That’s why I find myself watching a type of series I never used to before. I think that’s also what makes K-dramas so powerful — even though I haven’t watched that many. From the ones I know, and the ones people often talk about or that tend to be the most popular, they’re not usually focused on “positive” themes. They often dive into complex, emotional, sometimes painful topics — and maybe that’s what makes them so memorable.

Lol I get what you’re saying about all the kdramas you’ve watched being on the sad or intense side, but trust not all are like that. They’re actually more well known for their wholesome slice-of-life stories and emotional romances. Most of the ones people have recommended to you just lean darker because they match the genres we normally see you enjoy.

I haven't been commenting but I'm one of those people who saw your 1x1 drop and decided to binge the whole thing, and I have to say your in for a wild ride lol. Also fun fact I haven't seen anyone in the comments mention yet; this whole show is based off a manhwa that goes by the same name "weak hero", just like solo leveling, tower of god, and the god of highschool. I'm noticing a trend of peak shows being adapted from manhwa lol. Crazy to see considering I was reading it when it was releasing. Having watched and read both now, Id say the adaptation was really well done.

The Korean romantic comedy shows are fun to watch. I don't know if you guys will like it. It is mainly comedy but there is drama in between. You can also see what Koreans see as appropriate compared to us like using first names or holding hands. My favorites are Crash landing on you and Coffee Prince (train to Busan guy is in that).

One K-drama that comes to mind that is not sad or depressing (though it does get a bit intense at times) and something you might actually enjoy is "Vincenzo". It’s a mix of drama, action, comedy, and just a tiny bit of romance. Such a great show, and definitely a refreshing change from the usual zombie or bullying-centered genres. But I’ll save that recommendation for another time. 😉 Can't wait for episode 4!! ✨

idk about that. i don't really consider it an adaptation of the manhwa/webtoon cuz they've changed it too much especially in this first season. it's a known fact that the webtoon community doesn't really like how it was done

They did change a fair bit I will admit, but I was just stating factually what it was based off of. And I was also just saying my opinion on how I liked the adaptation. I think both are good works of fiction. Not gonna go into specifics to avoid spoilers for first timer watchers reading this comment but some things have to be changed to fit the format of a show. I do agree with you they could have done it differently and more faithfully to the original work, but does that lower the quality of it on its own for me? No not really, but that’s a decision one must decide for themselves.. to each their own. 👍

I just read somewhere that Park Jihoon created his character, Sieun's mood/personality by thinking about his group, Wanna One and their disbandment. This made him feel very lonely, sad and empty during that time... He truly aced it by bringing this cold and stoic character to life on screen one that feels relatable to the audience. Knowing this makes Sieun feel more real. That's why his emotions looked so raw in Weak Hero. Goodness, this man continues to amaze me with his talent, love, and natural gift for acting! Love him. And I miss Wanna One, too. 😭

I'm with u on recommending more upbeat dramas but reply 1988 would be a less than ideal choice. It is very niche, especially for kdrama beginners, since 1. It is rife with cultural references and elements that would go over their head 2. It's really long both in terms of episode count and length 3. It leans really hard on the slice of life which combined with its length can be really disengaging. I've watch other reactors react to it and it was obvious that they were struggling to stay invested in it.

it's true though--people always seem to put guys onto the zombie shows first, then more dark and depressing themes. But kdramas do light and humorous so well, and I wish we had more recommendations for those more often. I just hope the guys don't run out of steam with the kdramas before exploring different genres.

I second this! I can somehow stomach kdrama romcoms more than the American ones--I enjoy the plots, the acting, and the humor more. Most of my favorite kdramas actually fall in the lighter category than the darker ones. I think what's also great about the more wholesome shows is that there's still so much that you get out of it; it's not just meaningless humor or story--there are still heavy and relatable themes in there.

I loved Alchemy of Souls but didn't watch all of season 2. I liked the original female lead more than her replacement. And I never finished Hotel Del Luna but adore IU. I loved her in My Mister. The acting totally blew me away. It was emotionally captivating.
