Hey Geks, this might be a crazy ask, but could you guys watch season 5 in manga order? Manga order would be episodes 1-13 then you jump to episodes 20-24, then go back to episodes 14-19 and end off the season with the last episode (25). The anime swapped some episodes around to accommodate for Movie 3 and I think they messed up season 5 for that reason. It's up to you guys.

I remember the first time I watched this episode man, and I was so scared of him dying, and at that point I was still lowkey a hater, and then he survives and the RELIEF I felt. It's also that tidbit we got from Hawks' POV of him watching Endeavor for the longest time. Man, that hit me right in the feels.

So if Endeavor did get OFA his quirk would get boosted and of course he'd have the strength added on as well. Also All Might was always looking for a young successor who matched his ideals aka Deku and Mirio. The previous user Nana obviously had a much weaker version of OFA so it's no surprise she didn't stand a chance against AFO. Not to mention that All Might only fought AFO many years after he got OFA so he cultivated the quirk and made it much more powerful in his time in the U.S. 🇺🇸 🦅.

He's the perfect number 2 hero, he saved every single civilian, moved the rubble from the falling building out of the way, and even speed blitzed the weaker Nomus so Endeavor could focus on the High-end. He even acknowledged he's not a back people can look at and feel safe, the number 1 has to be the pinnacle of strength.

He did get off "light" but that probably makes it more frustrating for him, his anger comes from what Endeavor did to others not necessarily what Endeavor did to him. He's hardly interacted with Endeavor and still hated him. Natsuo is stubborn but you can't blame him for feeling the pain of his family members as if it was his own pain.

Heroes Rising shows certain characters we won't see until later in S5, thanks to the way the anime adapted some stuff. And it's not like random background characters. I legitimately asked about one of those characters in one of the online groups I'm a part of, and (fortunately) everyone played dumb and implied they were movie-original.

Endeavor’s arc is about atonement rather than redemption, which is why many people love his character but can’t forgive his actions. With everything he’s done he can’t ever fully redeem himself, but he can take responsibility and try to make things right. That’s really what atonement is: owning your past and actively working to be better, even if forgiveness doesn’t come. I’m not going to say much on it, but Todoroki family really is one of the most emotionally layered subplots in the show. Endeavor telling Shoto he wants to be someone he can be proud to call his dad, and then this episode? It’s a big step.

But after binging all 7 seasons, I honestly came to love it. So my personal ranking, based on the mix of emotional, storylines and hype impact, goes: 6-3-7-5-4-2-1

The All Might Show is over. But that's ok, the Endeavor show is just as good. I think what makes his fights so fun to watch is that we knew All Might was the best - he was just showing it. Endeavor on the other hand needs to transform into the number one hero in the middle of the fight.

S5 is slower paced then the other seasons not even by its own fault as studio Bones decided to extend some scenes which ended up being very detrimental to it as a weekly release. And I have other issues with this season as a manga reader but I won't speak on those issues yet as it'd be spoilery.

Nope, still don’t like Endeavor. Great hero and very well written, but as soon as the family flashbacks come on screen, back in the dumpster. The Todoroki family drama is so real though, the train wreck you can’t look away from.

Addressing the season 5 mid allegations, it's just that there's a lot of character work and training arcs, plus introducing new concepts into the show. There's not as many climactic battles as seasons 1-3, but it's definitely a solid season and it's pretty important to build up to seasons 6 and 7. Definitely better than the school festival arc with Gentle Criminal lol

There is literally no one in the Beserk fandom that is a fan of Griffith and I do know that there are certain people that considers Griffith as their favorite character.............. and personally, I usually keep my distance with those type of fans😅. Season 5 is probably the weakest, but it’s not bad at all. It just doesn’t have many climactic moments, and the training arcs can feel long and repetitive. Still, a lot of crucial setup happens, and you’ll likely get answers to a lot of the questions you brought up in your end discussion. It’s focused more on laying the groundwork for the best stretch of the series.

The stockpiling of OFA works by storing power to use over time. So the longer you have it the stronger the quirk becomes, but you can also train to be stronger which makes the quirk EVEN stronger

yeah this is my theory too. I think the reason all might was able to use ofa when he first got it and deku couldn't is because all might cultivated the quirk when he had is so much to the point that ofa is so much more powerful when deku gets it compared to when all might first obtained it. so i think if all might were to get one for all with all its current level of power back when he was young, he'd probably break his bones too.

As someone with a complicated relationship with my own father (and coincidentally all the painful stuff happened as these episodes were coming out, which was fun for me), I think mha really nailed the Todoroki family dynamic. All the complicated feelings, the unwillingness to forgive, but also the understanding that you are family and you do ultimately care about what happens to the one in the wrong. The separation between "the man who is my father" and "the man who hurt me" that Shoto maintains is incredibly relatable imo

The second half of season 5 definitely has some peak moments but it’s a different type of peak in a way. It’s so important in building the foundation for the plot in the next 2 seasons ( 6 & 7 ) and the final one ( season 8 ) that’s yet to air

I know a lot of people refer to season 5 as mid, but I like it regardless. Has a lot of important moments for the plot, expands the lore, and has some great character building imo. I love that we get more expansion into the Todoroki family dynamics, and Deku just straight up lucid dreaming about the First and AFO, and that juicy question about passing the singularity point are all great! Also we finally get introduced to Hawks!

I think you guys are forgetting all might was quirkless too and that was part of his soft spot for deku. Theorize with this information as you will but all might did cultivate this power over 20 or 30 years so the starting point for him wasn’t as powerful for him too handle whereas the power is unlimited for deku and its too powerful for his body.

I'm watching this for the first time alongside you guys and ngl I was starting to think that mha just wasnt for me. I was slowly losing interest and everything felt pretty solid but nothing really stood out to me. And there's always been a disconnect for me emotionally with this story. Even the All Might vs All for One fight didn't really hit for me. I guess, Mirio and Eri stuff was probably the closest. But after seeing 4x25, I think it finally unlocked or connected me. The climax of the fight and the scenes leading up to it, got me so emotionally and gave me chills throughout my whole body. I thought that whole episode was incredibly done, from both an animation perspective and a narrative one. They have also been setting up Endeavor's redemption really well this past season. This could potentially be one of the best redemption arcs I've seen after all this is over. And we are finally getting more One for All stuff, which has been one of the most interesting and mysterious pieces of the story. I am actually excited to see where the anime goes from here on. I'm starting to see the vision.

I really like how you's took Endeavour's character, a lot of people think it's black and white, you either forgive him for what he did or keep hating him but the show literally tells you to your face that you're not meant to forgive him, you're meant to try to accept that people can change and try to accept them for who they are or who they are trying to be, not who they were. The thing that makes Endeavor’s character so fascinating is that, yes, he is having a redemption arc, but there is so much nuance to it. He still did all the awful things to his family leaving them with lifelong trauma. Dang, I was really hoping that Hawks was going to like Varys from GoT, after seeing him with Dabi. Where he would do whatever it took for the good of the realm even if that meant collaborating with the enemy and become complicit in their crimes. The public just lost the symbol of peace and there is now chaos, so in order to unite the public and calm the uncertainties of the new #1 hero, Hawks works with the league of villains to "stage" an attack or multiple attacks on Endeavor, so that Endeavor finally becomes worthy enough in the eyes of the public to truly become the next #1 hero and symbol of peace. Maybe thats what the people giving Hawks orders are secretly doing and just using "we need info" tactic as a cover.

The lore in S5 Ep 2 really does go crazy. Listening to what the first One For All user says on this rewatch really makes future events make sense. Thats the point of Endeavors character. You arent meant to forgive him. People say Endeavor has a redemption arc, but I disagree. The route Endeavor tread on, its not redemption, because that wasnt the intention of his character, and that will be very obvious the deeper you go into Todoroki storyline. The sentiment that a character is bad hence everyone has to hate him or he has to be "misunderstood" is simply wrong. Its important to have characters that admit they did wrong, and work on themselves to be a better person while still remembering their sins, this includes their own family members, and in this case the Todorokis, instead of just sweeping everything under a rug called "hes a jerk but now hes good so we should all forget bad stuff he did." Its Endeavors growth as a character that I love most about him. Anyways, you guys finally get why I love this Endeavor vs Nomu so much. Other than the fact that its an insane showcase of Endeavors fire power and of course, the creativity of how he uses it, more importantly, it also contributes A LOT to his character writing. That "You are me, from the past, or from another future. Burn up, and be put to rest. I have always hated this school motto... PLUS ULTRA. PROMINENCE BURN." will never fail to give me chills. Full body goosebumps. Forgot to mention Hawks and Look Boy being Endeavors fans supporting him is amazing too. Tears me up every singe time man.

Since you guys didn't watch the filler episode, you didn't see it, but in the after-credit scene of the filler episode, we see the aftermath of Endeavor's victory pose. Hawks says something like "You did the same pose as All-Might", and Endeavor goes "it is not the same, he raised his left arm" lol. One of the best episodes in the entire anime. Absolutely insane. Endeavour stocks after this episode went sky high, just like his Prominence Burn. Time and time again MHA knows exactly how to play with your emotions. The music, the build up, the backstories. It's just too good. It's just straight up amazing. Todoroki kneeling down at the end, out of breath, relieved that his father won, relieved that his father didn't die. God it's so real. The school motto + the All Might pose at the end. Gets me choked up every time.

Makes sense, personally I just feel the opening/endings are tied to the emotions of episodes and seasons. It resurfaces when I listen to the track or watch them all together later—like they did with AoT. I also trust that the creators are purposeful with what they put in there—they don’t want to ruin the experience of their show. I think AoT had some intro/outros that were masterful in how they showed stuff you could only wonder at initially, and don’t understand until a rewatch after a few more seasons. MHA doesn’t really do that, but I think they still add intrigue, hype, and depth. Like the outro with Eri.

It was interesting to see the Lore in the All for One and power and how it ties for One for All. So far, season 5 is starting off good. I'm excited to watch the next set of episodes.

Unsure if someone else mentioned this, but as endeavor is saying his last words to the Nomu “you are me…” and “burn up and rest…” he is also wielding new wings of flame pushed onto him from hawks. He essentially resembles a phoenix, so this victory over the nomu and him seeing his reflection in it is also a symbol of his rebirth as a person. His intent to become a better man.

Finally had time to watch in and yes, this continues to be one of my favorite anime episodes ever. I think it is as close to perfect as it can get. Character development, hype, action, art, music, animation, every single thing combines perfectly to create this episode. The OST that plays during his final attack, Kimi no Chikara, has been exclusively used for Shoto until now, but it is so poetic that it is used for Endeavor during his actual start, his first step toward becoming a symbol.

Also, Hawks says a line twice, that is a callback to the All Might vs AFO fight. When Endeavor shows up to that fight he says "What is up with that pitiful back?" to All Might. Then here, Hawks says "My back is not enough to keep them safe", while looking at Endeavor's back. This is a theme Horikoshi uses that means the back of the number 1 hero must inspire people, just looking at their back must make them feel safe. Endeavor can fulfill that, no one else can at this point in time.

Another thing, Endeavor's fan is a clear nod to Natsu Dragneel. The MC of Fairy Tail, who has pink hair and wears a yellow scaled scarf. He is one of, if not the most iconic flame user in anime. At least he used to be when Fairy Tail was airing. Shoto's brother is also named Natsuo, which is again, a clear nod to Natsu.

The son’s name is not a clear reference to fairy tale’s Natsu, Natsu is the Japanese word for summer and the whole Todoroki family have names with fire/ice theming. For example the daughter’s name is Fuyumi, fuyu is the word for winter in Japanese. There’s thousands of Japanese people with ‘Natsu’ in their first name born long before fairy tail existed lol. It being a reference is possible but it being a clear one is a reach.

I know this is old, but I'm just now getting caught up. It's a shame you guys decided to skip the first episode, because the after credits scene was pretty massive and you would have been less confused by the Dabi/Hawks scene at the beginning.
