Ciara

OH MY GODDDD

sil 🧸ྀི

it is!!! it’s fun they did a good job adapting it 💖

Ciara

I can I’ve watched it so many times it’s so goodddd

Lock in

It’s aight, not as good as anime or manga. But it doesn’t suck ass compared to other live actions

hannahbee99

Really excited for you guys to react to this! It’s a great adaptation 🙂‍↕️😊

Qhoa

W

Pennny

imo not saying its the best thing ever but its def the best anime live action to date

Koel Rosanna

It's actually pretty good for a live action, most are absolutely horrible but this one is super popular. For good reason too! Oda helped pick out the cast and was directly involved in the making of it!!

StrayRonin

I was not expecting this 😛

Dasha

Better than any anime adaptation for sure

Lock in

Rurouni Kenshin wants words

Kite

even tho I can't say I've liked this show so far at least you can tell it's made with love and also the cast it's perfect

TrueCrisp

AAAHHHHHH I JUST EXPLODED IM SO HAPPY THIS IS HAPPENING

~Mercedeez Lee~

Damn did not know you guys were doing this, I said I ain’t care about the anime, haven’t for a few years now, I think I stopped around the time episodes 500-600 were airing so I don’t tune in for your guys reactions to the anime BUT I did enjoy the live action a lot for some reason ( also desperately waiting on season 2 ), so I’m definitely here for these reactions. Let’s go

ahmad

YOU GUYS ARE GOATED

Nope

THIS NOTIFICATION MADE ME SO FUCKING HAPPY

Miitei

Guess I'll finally watch this lol

Unlucky Trandon

I honestly never thought the day would come but I'm ready

JevCor

hmmm I've been borderline hating this without watching, I just don't trust live action lmao, I'll try it with you guys.

fia

AYOO?

lawswater

honestly i think they did a great job. the casting is perfect in my opinion, my only issue is the dialogue is a bit corny, other than that, i love it !

Kite

I think there's still a spoiler of something they haven't seen but I'm not sure

Zipzzty

GOATS GOATS

Zipzzty

Oh my h my

Zipzzty

😂😂😂

Zipzzty

WHAT YES

farkzzy

no way 🤯

humbleandkindness

SHUT UP SHUT UP SHUT UP RN THIS IS THE BEST BIRTHDAY PRESENT I COULD HAVE EVER BEEN GIVEN

Ana

Yaaaaay I’ve been waiting for this

Synyster

This makes me wonder if they’ll ever watch Black Sails

Saki 🏴‍☠️✨❤️‍🔥

WAS NOT EXPECTING THIS - as much as i have mixed opinions on the live action, im super happy for more one piece content!!

Alli

Anything before a return of breaking bad. With 0 explanation whatsoever. sigh.

Spidey

NO WAY

Saki 🏴‍☠️✨❤️‍🔥

personally i have mixed opinions on it! its good, but theres definitely some significant changes to the story, some of the characters are a bit ooc sometimes, and ofc a lot of things arent to the same scale as the anime/manga - at the same time i really appreciate that they actually got oda's input on the casting and what not, and that u can tell that a lot of the cast and people involved are actually big fans of the series

지원

wait huh??

cara

just realized any video i watch now i’m waiting for the koda shirt wheel 😭

Alexa

AAAAYYYYY I'm excited!

SavDog23

One Piece fans eating GREAT

Patrick Bateman

When u finish One Piece live action and Stranger Things, should consider reacting to Barry(HBO TV Show) and Weapons(movie)

Wyvern

I think you guys picked a good point to do this. Because as you saw, they drop the whole Luffy and Garp connection in the first episode. Whereas in the Manga and Anime it isn't until after Ennies Lobby.

Patrick Bateman

They probably didn't like it since it's slow paced.

cozo

JUST SAW THIS WTHH LETS GO

Pudding

YAYYY THANKS!! THIS IS SO ENTERTAINING!

Zipzzty

15:16 Cannon with the elite ball knowledge John Locke the goat peak lost

Zipzzty

LETS GOOO

GBuckets

The episodes get better and better. I wasn’t a fan of the first ep when i watched it, kinda goofy, but you get used to it along the way and the episodes just get better

Zipzzty

STRAW HAT

Zipzzty

THEY ARE

Zipzzty

W HAPPINESS

Kite

confirmed and it's in the first episode 😭

usopp

NO WAY

Volt

Luffy just feels off to me it's hard to describe but I don't really like it, though everything else is fine. I feel the same as Jack with the fights, it's cool now against fodder but I wonder how they will depict fights against people with actual strength and skill because Luffy has definitely been nerfed already which isn't a good sign

farkzzy

helmeppo got me crying

kumamon

Yessssss!!!!!!

Kim 555

Am I hallucinating? Why do I remember you doing the One Piece live action and then never continuing it after one or a few episodes back when it was airing

Jude

Valid hesitation very rarely do live action stuff do the original source justice but I think One Piece LA is one of the better adaptations

T

OMG the greatest surprise ever!!!

Jo

YESSSSSS!! LOVE THIS LIVE ACTION, SO EXCITED TO REWATCH WITH YOU GUYS!!

Gail

AHH SO EXCITED TO SEE THE THOUGHTS ON THIS!! :)

Saki 🏴‍☠️✨❤️‍🔥

first off - "almost 3yrs ago" is terrifying...please don't remind me about the passage of time and second, im kinda glad yall waited to watch the live action till after getting into the anime and past the spoilers! not a bad choice imo

Jude

I think one of the better thing OPLA did was that Oda the person who wrote the story has also heavily involved in a lot of the stuff like casting as well as notes on scripts and script drafts and that they didn't do any changes without first asking for Oda's permission. I think that's why even though they change stuff to condense the story it still feels like One Piece. I've heard some people not like it as much since it's not a one to one of the anime but I think it's cool we see parts we haven't seen like Zoro fighting Mr. 7

KrispyKenny

i think its cause Bradlynn is pregnant

Bri

So unexpected and I’m hype as hell.

beannie

you’re probably mixing it up with the Atla live action, they’ve only watched a teaser of opla before this

Jasmin☆

i love opla, there is just sometimes things from the anime can’t/don’t get translated into the live action for example luffy sandals the la actor couldn’t wear sandals due to the stunts / fighting choreo other than that it’s very much a successful anime live action adaptation

Kim 555

Frick I was about to add that I know they did ATLA live action and didn’t continue it but this is a different memory. It could be them watching the trailer maybe? Cause I remember seeing scenes from One Piece live action and people on a ship etc but it I wouldn’t watch it on my own. Weird feeling, it’s like a butterfly effect sorta

JevCor

Okay okay. I'm liking it so far.

humbleandkindness

I remember the days when their faces dropped whenever Jack brought One Piece up :,) they grow up so fast

EmlovesOP

Yess finally, netflix really ahead of the game with bringing in more anime to their platform we were all so nervous for the live action tho usually really bad but oda never fails

humbleandkindness

I also think they have the luxury of knowing where the story is going to go, compared to the very beginning, especially since the story has gone for soooooo long,, so i definitely see some changes that could have been made with that in mind

humbleandkindness

They watched a trailer for it but I think that was it,, I too hallucinate videos from them, I swear they watched some of trigun stampede one time

Jengit

Yeah I think they watched the trailer

Kim 555

omg I found it! they did on September 1st 2023. I knew I wasn't crazy hahaha. Thank you for pointing it out, that was it :)

~Mercedeez Lee~

I’m pretty sure the live action is just another adaptation of the manga, not the anime. That’s why all the costumes worn by the actors are from covers of the manga. Also some scenes that were not in the anime but are from the manga are in the live action. I just remembered the insane thirst tweets and TikTok clips of live action Zoro & Buggy when it aired, that was a wild time

Flubbedsquid

IIRC none of the characters in the live action wear sandals because it would be dangerous to have them doing all those physical stunts in open-toed shoes. Luffy's sandals staying on during all his fights is probably like the third most unrealistic thing about the anime lol.

Rhettoric

I am so here for this! I love that Jack is new to this too, hearing his unfiltered thoughts/predictions is very refreshing. Now I just need to catch up on the anime reactions, because I'm still at the end of Thriller Bark and they're about to watch peak. Thanks for reacting to this guys!

humbleandkindness

The main complaints that I’ve seen about the live action are about plot divergence/differences from things in the anime, and I have two things to say, which have probably already been said but I’m still going to say them lol: 1) absolutely everything was run by Oda,, no changes were made without his expression permission, and honestly some could have even been made via his decision 2) the live action is an adaptation of the manga, not the anime. Some things were censored for broadcast (like Luffy and how he got his scar), so they’ll be handled differently here to stay true to what was originally written It’s a given that the translation from anime/manga to live action means that some things don’t come through, and one of the showrunners did say that in order to help the show feel more grounded/realistic (bc I love this show so much but it is OUT there), they either changed some things (luffy not flying into the base) or just didn’t include them (sanji’s eyebrow and usopp’s nose). In cases like these, there are a ton of subtle nods to the things they couldn’t bring in, for the express purpose of letting fans know they remembered/cared. The heart and soul of the story is present even when it’s not a one to one, but everyone in and behind this show do so much to get it as close as possible if not actually accomplishing it.

JevCor

One of the guest reactors was sick so they weren't able to film. :(

humbleandkindness

Also some other thoughts hehe oops: - Zoro’s actor, Mackenyu, is the son of the legend himself, Sonny Chiba, and he is a GOD at fighting and stunt work. I love the fight choreography in this show, but it doesn’t even come close to what he’s capable of, especially because he’s got so much more experience compared to most everyone else. Some of the teams he’s worked with in the past are working on season two, and I am so. ex. cited. - Majority of the sets, including some you wouldn’t expect, are completely practical, and they only get better. The filming was done in South Africa to use ships already built for other productions, which helps to ground such an unrealistic world and make it feel more real. - There are songs from the original anime in this show, but the original soundtrack that Sonya Belousova and Giona Ostinelli have composed is absolutely masterful and help build up some of the iconic moments in this live action to really help bring the umph factor for new viewers and also help fans of the anime immerse themselves. I understand all media is subjective and people can have their opinions, but the soundtrack for this show is something I will gladly die defending. It is AMAZING

greyxwaren

the actor is so great he heard rat in the description and went HAM in his performance

Seda

OMGGGG YOU GUYS ARE THE BEST!! BEEN WAITING FOR THIS

kuza

as a huge one piece fan i dont really like this live action icl 😭 anime in general just shouldnt be live action and it definitely cannot capture the real one piece feel but im glad its having success

Jude

fr he portrayed helmeppo really well

Marcus D

We’re getting almost 3x more watch time per week with the live action than we do with the anime 💀

kuza

i say this but i still will be watching smh 😶

Marcus D

It is worth noting that there were certain things oda denied but they pestered him for it for months until he gave in out of pressure lol. Lots of things were outside of Oda’s control so it’s disingenuous to portray that everything was how he wanted it, with these kinds of projects you have to compromise so every aspect of the show isn’t necessarily something he was pleased with, there’s multiple people in charge of the show from the film industry so oda just puts his foot down only when something too important is off the right direction.

StrayRonin

There’s a certain goofiness to one piece that live action can’t really capture but I think in all other aspects they do a pretty good job

Bloodi_Owl

The shoes look weird but they are intended to give the appearance of sandals, thats why they are skin color with the black stripes. I guess they didn't want to deal with him wearing sandals during action sequences.

kuza

i just realised does the live action ever spoiled some bountys for them? cant remember

Lil Mimi

Cannon’s friend is apparently sick he’s got acute bronchitis.

beannie

I enjoyed the live action a lot because of the changes they made, the manga/anime is obviously better but, I think it turned out pretty well because everything was supervised by oda. the direction in some parts could’ve been better (in my opinion), but it’s still very enjoyable!! and I love the way some characters are treated here, I like helmeppo way more in the LA than the anime ngl lol I’m so excited!! the first 2 eps were directed by the same person (Marc Jobst*), and I love the way ep 2 is structured🕺

Patch

I can’t wait for the rest!

Diable Jambe Flores

If we’re talking HBO I think The Wire needs to be in their radar.

David

Please don't...

Marcus D

Nah, the only real spoilers for them is garp’s suit at Roger’s execution and the prominent characters being present there

Murasaki

I love the live action. The first four episodes are weaker tho. Btw in the anime my favourite is Zoro but I love Sanji more in OPLA lol, can’t wait for y’all to see him 🚬

T

Technically the anime is also an adaptation of the manga, as is the live action. It's not fair to compare all of them because they're such different mediums, but I think the opla did a good job of rewriting the sequence of events so that the main plot is still depicted under 8 episodes. Also, I think the casting is great. If you watch some of their bts footage the actors are so much like their characters in real life

Hegataro

Supposedly Mackenyu was too intense for the Season 1 stunt choreographers, so he brought his own team for the second and third seasons

kuza

gotchu

cozo

we need a petition for less live action one piece and more anime 💀 this is fun but i'd always choose more anime

Vernus

The live action was my first taste of one piece and it was pretty enjoyable ngl

kuza

one thing is these zoro scenes cook

Marcus D

Just to be clear, although the live action is decent at adapting the source material there’s a lot of inconsistencies that opposes Oda’s writing on the mechanics of the world, character stuff and lore, like for example how water effects devil fruits users in this version. So please don’t consider any of the information/content you get from this live action as canon to the continuity/content of the anime/manga.

Marcus D

@Cozo Agreed

Avik Das

Thanks so much

Shaun V

Helmoppo gotta be the most accurate casting oat i dont know how they did it lmao

Marcus D

Cannon in epsiode 4 of the anime/manga chapter 1 when luffy eats the fruit, we see shanks’ reaction. He wasn’t angry, just freaking out and only seemed to care about luffy losing the ability to swim for the rest of his life and tells him so.

Dani G

The live action is what turned me towards the anime when I otherwise would have never given it a chance.

1804

I think the first two eps are the best episodes, the last episode is great too. Overall is good but it has many stuff that can be improved and i trust that s2 will be better in those aspects.

zoro's enma

I enjoyed the live action but obviously the anime is waaaaay better for me. One thing I hated that they didn't include is how zoro was on board with luffy after beating axehand, there's a line zoro says to luffy in the anime after luffy gets him his swords that I think set the tone for their relationship and character relationships are so important in OP and important to the actions those characters make in the story , but yeah after finishing the live action I just took it for what it is, hated that zoro was not on board after this thooo, its so important to me.

Murasaki

Yeah the last episode is very good, literally made me emotional again

Aokiji Piece🧊

I’m curious, are you caught up with the series currently?

Dani G

Nope! But that’s because I’ve been watching with a friend so I have to wait on him.

Aokiji Piece🧊

Sounds good, enjoy the journey ahead of you 🙏

kuza

as much as im not really a fan of the live action i do love it to some degree for this exact reason

Marcus D

Even thought it’s just an expression of his narcissism, Morgan’s room interior is pretty fire. Get me his portrait painter.

Saki 🏴‍☠️✨❤️‍🔥

yeahhh, its definitely a very different start to their story - i think zoro and namis 'not a crew' lines r pretty funny, but not only that does it take longer to get zoros loyalty, but it also caught me off guard how willing luffy was to just let zoro go here when he essentially tries to blackmail zoro into joining him in canon, lmao

Pudding

There was no better actor for him 👌 perfect match

2026-10-07 09:00 Helmeppo was hilarious in this one lmaoo bro had me in tears in every scene
2025-09-11 07:58

Pudding

Happy birthday 🎂

charlie

Helmeppo really reminds me a of Targaryen here lol like Aegon pretty much

Cat

I watched the live action when it came out and enjoyed it. But I still haven't watched much of the anime so I know it's different for people that are big fans of the anime first. It's not going to be exactly like the anime or manga caus things have to be changed to fit the live action format. I think people just need to treat it as a separate thing to enjoy it for what it is

Saki 🏴‍☠️✨❤️‍🔥

they definitely make him a bit ooc in the live action - idk why, like if they just wanted to water down his selfishness to make him more digestable to newer fans or something? but u can already see it in his nonchalance in letting zoro go, as opposed to trying to blackmail him into his crew, lmao - that being said i think iñaki does a p good job at portraying what he was given

JevCor

Thought Oda was directly involved in the writing on this, or so others have said as well as google. So Oda contradicted himself?

1804

I think you might be referring to Marc Jobst, not Maeda

beannie

omg you’re right! thanks for the correction!!

beannie

yessss, they reacted to the trailer, then they watched the fist ep of the anime and then they did the breathtaking world of one piece! I lowkey wanted them to finish the atla live action tho, It wasn’t really good but the zuko and iroh bits were enjoyable imo

Ninjinzo

Eh the live action imo kinda mid

1804

I think that's because it is a *manga* adaptation, it comes from a very different medium and some stuff just doesn't translate the best. Also, it's a western production so the translation is even harder i feel... That's why i think the live action in some aspects made it's own thing because it works best for that medium and I think that's the right decision. As long as they adapt the story I'm fine with them making changes that fit better for the live action format.

christopher

Don't really like the live action but am glad it brought people to the community (it's luffy he just doesn't feel like Luffy)

greyxwaren

yeah same as how people like to say oda hand picked the cast himself, oda doesn't have time to sift through all the auditions and play cast director, nor did he dream of these actors himself. he only received like 4 audition tapes that the casting directors sent him after going through so many of them and he picks from what's presented to him

Marcus D

Oda didnt write the show, that was done by the 2 show runners paid their team, there’s so many moving parts when it comes to film and television compared to when with Oda’s manga, the source material is just mainly him doing the writing and imagery. The live action along with the show runners who call the shots and do the writting also has many different production teams involved. Oda is basically a creative supervisor, he has the final say/creative control to pull the plug on, but he’s just presented things the show runners create, even with his influence, he’s it wouldn’t work well if he was going to direct people to do and change every single thing he wants. Also Oda has talked about the live action many times and not once does he say that it is a canon revision of the story and should be taken as canon over the original material.

Nicole

I'm actually so happy to see you guys reacting to the live action! I know it's hard to not compare it to anime (Which is amazing in its own right), but a live action is a vastly different format so of course things are going to be different. For me, the live action is amazing as a live action, it's infinitely better for enjoyment when you take it as its own thing! Hope you're going to have lots of fun with it!

DietCocaine

They changed a lot of stuff to appeal to people who haven’t seen the anime. It also makes it a little more interesting for people who’ve seen the anime so I don’t really mind it as long as you go in looking to have fun and see a different interpretation of the story. Also yeah Zoro was pretty much bought into the crew before luffy even untied him lol.

Marcus D

Besides the fact that he’s always brooding and in emo mode without a shed of his light and fun attitude.

Ana

That’s wild because I just had bronchitis last week 😭😭 what’s in the air

Ana

So both are different and both are good. I don’t understand the hate when people say it’s too different. Ofc it’s gonna be different it’s live action with only a handful of episodes compared to the 100s of episodes of the anime. It was never gonna be completely accurate it’s just a different adaptation of the show. If you keep that in mind then you can enjoy the show for what it is. I thought this was gonna be trash like I never thought they could make a live action one piece work but they surprised me and this is really good and Oda is overseeing it. Their best decision. It’s s just a condensed retelling of the original story and it’s not bad

chiyash

i know so many people who tried anime because of the live action ... my brother was like i cant wait for more episodes so he looked up one piece anime and after he saw the ep numbers ... he never searched anime again

SammiewiththebigT

I definitely think that this live action is a lot better than most failed attempts at live actions.

cozo

ngl i would def prefer more one piece anime drops but the live action isnt THAT bad, i at least wanna see how much it can cook on some actual peak like enies lobby, the one piece anime itself wasn't that good up until where the live action goes so the live action can't be peak either. but i think it does a great job at adapting it

1999

Helmeppo looks like Aegon

wanira 11

Omg I can't believe this is happening, I'm so excited! The live action was my first introduction to one piece and I absolutely fell in love with it. You can tell that the cast and the people behind it have so much love and respect for the source material, it just warms my heart. ❤

wanira 11

He was absolutely hilarious, love him

1804

This is 50/50 to me, in the sense, that he definetly doesn't pick them by himself, he's only given already selected people and he gives his opinion on them (that could or not make a difference, but probably not much unless his opinion is too drastic). But at the same time, he does accept them and whilst he doesn't have all the control he still welcomes them to the team and to represent those characters (and we know how close he gets to people involved in the op projects, like how Mackenyu goes play cards w him or goes to his house). So, in that aspect, the idea of the whole he "hand-picked them" is to say Oda sees these people as those characters which is most likely true at the end of the day (this is mostly only done with the main cast) but it is still remains false that he has that much power in the cast selecting process.

wanira 11

One piece haters to one piece lovers, ya love to see it 😁

Sriju210 Gamer

Love you guys and ur reaction but as a paying viewer it pains me to see you guys repeat shows sometimes . Idk about others but I hate it when you watch something where you already know what happens .

Poragami

So wait, are we getting MHA, Stranger Things AND OPLA?

Pace

Same haha

Pace

Very mid

Pace

The manga and anime are totally different experiences and much better you feel way closer to the characters and the plot isnt compromised and watered

Yusuf Riyandi

All this time, I thought you guys have watched it before the anime, 😁🔥❤️

Cat

Yeah but I feel like that's to be expected. Much more material and longer overall run time in manga/anime. It's like comparing books to movie adaptations. Movies are very rarely better

Fatipapi (Byakuya’s Girl)

Lord… the only time i wish patreon had a dislike button 😂 but at the same time im compelled to watch, just to see if yall will hate it too lmaooo

Marcus

isnt it thursday? so is this the wednesday or friday one? or neither? xd

Nanami's Wife

Just remember the live action is not exactly accurate to the anime. For example, Garp being there for the execution doesn't happen at all. To save time because its a live action, they cut or added scenes. However for a live action, this is a very good adaption to an anime. I think this is the best live action adaption I have seen so far from an anime. I hope you guys enjoy it and have a fun watching it! My favorite character in here is Buggy!

wanira 11

Also fun fact: they wanted Luffy to wear sandals in the live action too, but because of Netflix's safety policies they weren't allowed to

Marcus D

In the anime, Zoro was instantly bought in when luffy offered him a away out, he said something along the lines of “being a pirate is better than being dead” and “I have a dream to fulfill” then as soon as he’s free with his swords he immediately calls luffy captain with a smile.🐐

Saki 🏴‍☠️✨❤️‍🔥

i mean i can kinda understand this in terms of rewatch content, but trust that in having seen op they dont really know whats gonna happen in opla lol - they did some major plot changes and what not

zoro's enma

sadly even tho inaki is a perfect luffy, appearance wise, much of the way he acts is not luffy like to me, I still liked his performance and he is cute and funny in his own way but there's just the little things that makes luffy, luffy that wasn't included, luffy's determination and confidence is always a big part of him but some scenes make me just go "my luffy would never say/do that🤨"

John D. Acebes

Excited to watch this. Hoping yall try other adaptations. Specifically Death Note, so yall can see what abysmal dog water of an adaptation looks like

Sriju210 Gamer

I mean still , this is not the first time they are re-watching , they did attack on titan again , also stranger things where most of them have seen before, also the same with breaking bad .

Ryker

cool little detail you can hear binks sake in the background in luffys flashback

SammiewiththebigT

I thought it was well done compared to other live actions…😀

SammiewiththebigT

Bro, not garp. Let’s talk about Shanks, that’s a real zaddy😫

Fatipapi (Byakuya’s Girl)

Nooo, he was hotter in Queen of the South 😂 he doesnt look like Shanks at all, nor does Mihawk. LA mihawk is way too skinny and not epic looking. Coby does actually look like Coby, but also looks like he has a tumblr where he reposts marine fan edits 😂

Luffers

Sorry but that scene were they break the bottles is so lame. Same in the anime but worse since he gets a drink poured on him. Same when Luffy and Zoro get actually assaulted on Jaya. I don't even understand the lesson here. Turn the other cheek? The series constantly praises standing up against injustice, never bowing your head, never giving up your pride or dreams. Yet here, Oda is essentially saying it’s okay to let someone humiliate and hit you because the “fight isn’t worth it.” I get they can take them. I can take a 3 year old but I'm still not going to let them break things, pour drinks on my head and slap me around. At the very least I'd set boundaries and tell them to stop. At least a 3 year old has the excuse of not knowing better. These are grown men. Shanks and Luffy preach freedom and pride, yet here they quietly endure abuse. He's not shrugging off a rude word. There’s a difference between ignoring petty insults and tolerating outright assault.

JBVI

Live action on Netflix was the first time I have heard about One Piece. I had never seen anime before, and honestly, I was very skeptical. Then, I really enjoyed the Netflix show, and I couldn't wait for the next season. At that moment, I decided to try the anime. Now I'm caught up, and One Piece is my favorite series.

wanira 11

This is word for word my experience, but I'm not caught up yet. Am at the arc that starts with W and ends with O

1804

Whilst a bit extreme, yes, i guess to make the message even more in your face I understood it as it's not worth your time retaliating or clapping back to people that will never change their ways (and most likely oppose to yours). They chose not to give them attention by responding nor leaving. This doesn't go against the freedom they preach but it's more about standing for their ideals (in Zoro's case is more about loyalty to his captain). Shanks does not care and was teaching Luffy not to lose control at the minimum someone disrespects him, but only fight for what actually matters (friends or dreams). I never took it as Oda saying it's fine to be humilliated because the fight is not worth it but to choose the moments you decide it's worth to fight or not, it's up to you, you got control over that and therefore your freedom of choice. In this case Shanks and Luffy chose that.

Mahti

The live action bringing so many new fans to the show is why I can't hate on it. Crazy to think that you started with the live action and already caught up when it's been part of my life ever since I was a kid waiting for the next manga to arrive to the store.

mina

i don't understand when people say they hate this live action like yeah it's obviously not gonna be as perfect as the source material, but come on. you can see how much effort is put into casting, set, costumes, filming, editing, directing to make it as much as possible similar to the anime, the actors studying the characters, even oda himself helping with everything and filling up the holes with things we didn't get in the anime and manga, but still making it canon. like to me it's impossible to hate this. it's just warms my heart idk

Mahti

It is very cringy but overall well done for a live action adaption, solid 6.5/10

mina

fatipapi you're not the one to judge🤚🤚 some of your husbands are also very questionable 😭

Mahti

Am I the only one who thinks Luffys actor is the worst one? wait until you see him getting serious, can't take that seriously 😂

Destiny Samuel

Don’t let them silence you 🙂‍↕️🤞🏾

Hegataro

Honestly one of the only problems I do have with the LA is that Axe Hand Morgan isn't huge enough. Imagine someone absolutely ripped like John Cena in the role (not necessarily him but you know what I mean).

Marcus D

Nah, I agree 😂😅

Marcus D

Awesome, glad you could experience the great journey with us. The live action deserves props for that 🔥🙏

Marcus D

Also hurry the f’ up @wanira11! Peak awaits you! I thought you were up to date with the manga they way you talk about the series 😂

Mahti

I agree with you about rewatches not being what I'm here for but this is at least very different from the anime and technically a new show.

Mahti

Only one I've seen that's watchable

Marcus D

Agreed with Mahti and yeah it was fairly cringy but there’s so good parts to it, def very mid as an adaption of one piece though. I made it 4ko epsiode 6 but then I found out how much they butchered the portrayal of the Nami arc and I was done.

Jimmy

Its not a perfect live action anime, but its good. Definitely a bit cringe and mushy at times but overall one of the best if not the best live action anime show ever.

Marcus D

Fun fact, Garp’s actor was actually in House of the dragon season 2, he was Alicent’s main kingsguard member. He was in multiple episodes and gradually had more screen time as the season progressed, he was the one with Alicent when during her camping escape in the forest. This was after the live action aired aswell

Mahti

best casting in the show

Fatipapi (Byakuya’s Girl)

Bro arlong and the fishmen look so fucking bad 😭 i also remember that scene w luffy putting his hat on nami etc being very cringe too, horribly converted and almost literally copied from the anime which just makes it loook weird irl, because anime simply does not translate well to live action, especially when powers and supernatural stuff are involved..

SammiewiththebigT

Yes, thank you. Like a lot of people were furious when it came out and said that it wasn’t living up to their expectations. Like honey, the only reason it turned out good, was because Oda had a hand in it.🙂‍↕️

Marcus D

It’s definitely not canon, but yeah the production side of the show is really good, besides maybe a lot of those close up shots haha. The bad part is the writing imo. In terms of them adapting the manga material, not because they cut stuff out but due to the way they wrote the scenes they kept in and added.

Mahti

I'd trade the entire live action for one more OP anime drop per week. To be fair I'd do the same for all the other shows they're watching combined 😂

Fatipapi (Byakuya’s Girl)

Sorry for the ‘hate’ comments yall, but i just cannot for the life of me understand how you look at this as someone who loves the anime and thinks this does it justice or is a good adaptation. The set design and production quality/budget is the only thing good about this. Im just very defensive of my (shared) number 1 anime that i have watched and loved for years and years and feel like its just an abomination and its mind boggling seeing people call this good 😭😭.

wanira 11

@Marcus lmao I don't want to rush the experience 😂 the day I will be caught up will be bittersweet indeed

Mahti

Best live adaption so mid overall

Luffers

The contradiction is what bothers me. One Piece constantly hypes standing tall against anyone trying to trample your pride or freedom, yet here we’re told to cheer for characters doing the opposite. Shanks teaching Luffy not to lose his temper is fine but he takes it to an absurd extreme. Same with Zoro. Loyalty doesn’t mean sitting there and being a punching bag. To me, Oda overshot the mark. Instead of coming across as strength through restraint, it comes across as unrealistic and hollow. In real life, if someone treated you like that, “choosing not to fight” wouldn’t look like wisdom, it would look like weakness. Also, who says they can't change their ways? One Piece is full of enemies turn friends.

Marcus D

100% haha, I’ll accept that 😂

Luffers

Calling it an “abomination” ignores what it is doing well: introducing One Piece to an audience that wouldn't touch a 1,000 episode anime, while still paying homage to the original. It doesn’t replace the anime but it stands as its own entry point that’s already pulled thousands of new fans into the world you and I both love. The core of the story is intact. Luffy still embodies freedom and optimism. The crew still feels like misfits coming together to chase their dreams. The Arlong Park climax is handled with the same emotional weight as the anime, and moments like Zoro’s loyalty or Nami’s breakdown are treated with respect rather than watered down. What do you want? A one to one adaption? You'll end up with the live action version of Ed like they did in Cowboy Bebop and everyone hated it.

Fatipapi (Byakuya’s Girl)

If this was my first introduction to one piece, it would put me off more than the 1000 episodes 😅 but sure, if people like this and decide to give the anime a shot and then properly fall in love, all the better of course

Mr. John Kagurabachi

This was My first introduction to one piece and I loved it so much two years later I’m now in Wano. The live action did its job of creating new fans. Also it’s a common theme that a lot of non OP fans loved this show while OP fans hated it.

Hector

HE'S AVERAGING 40!!!

Jsb011

Can’t wait to see this since this series is the only One Piece I’ve watched.

VictoriaKyuu

I personally found it cringey and hard to watch. I don't think it was bad, especially it being a faster introduction to people who wanted to get into one piece, but I already caught up to one piece when this came out, and I really just couldn't get into it.

lana

NO WAY

lana

...

Hector

The live action is its own version. been into one piece for years and i think people compare it too much to the anime. The Live action it’s not a carbon copy, it’s its own take/adaptation. You can see the care for it, the comedy lands, the quality’s good with the transactions etc. if you love one piece, you’ll enjoy it more by just taking it for what it is.

Tokyo Ghoul Supremacist

I don't know I feel like this is perfectly in line with everything Oda established in early OP. The guy spilled a drink on him. That's not a big deal to Shanks. Why would it be? He didn't hurt anyone and Shanks clearly doesn't care. Higuma isn't getting in the way of his dreams at all, so Shanks just laughs it off. I don't see where it contradicts any of the themes set up later in the story tbh.

Miitei

This was uploaded Wednesday night in their time.

Daniella

You guys finally got round to watching it i remember you watching the trailer and the debate was so funny. Ngl i do have a very hard time loving live actions because i can’t help but the compare to the og media, but i got up to episode 4 of OPLA and i liked it so far, i just forgot to finish it so i’ll watch along too :) Of course so far i have my gripes with it (which i won’t say because of spoilers in the anime) but what it can do as a live action i think it does well and whilst they do take some liberties it’s all to flesh it out as it’s own thing rather than a direct copy. Hopefully you guys (especially Jack I’m curious about his opinion) like the show!

Luffers

It is a big deal. His inaction lead directly to Luffy's kidnapping and him losing his arm. The bandits didn't hurt anyone... until they did.

Tokyo Ghoul Supremacist

Definitely not a perfect adaptation, but c'mon. It has some serious flaws and some characters and plots miss the mark, but I genuinely don't see how people consider this 'bad'. I don't think they needed to make a One Piece live action but if they were going to, this is probably the best case scenario. It's a pretty watchable show and the people making it clearly love One Piece, which really gives the show a lot of heart.

Tokyo Ghoul Supremacist

Ayo lol that Mihawk shout has to be be rage bait. The show has some bad casts but Mihawk was easily one of the most anime-accurate adaptations they've done wdym. Shanks looks like a bum but Mihawk was done perfectly be fr.

2026-10-07 09:00 When will we get another good tv show? Like Vikings, this shit is so mid
2025-09-11 14:55

Vinny Deluca

They def leaned more Campy but I love it lol. Def dif than the Anime but I really enjoyed S1

Arely

LET'S GOOOOOOOO

chiyash

i know more non anime watchers irl but every single one of them has watched the opla and everyone went omg this is one of the best things they have ever watched after that most people went to search the anime but saw the animation and the numbers and i think not a single one even tried watching it and they are like so frekaing desperately waiting for the season 2 .. even my parents who dont know english at a conversational level like it became more famous then stranger things for non anime viewers

chiyash

i am pretty sure oda rewrote the story for the live action himself like if you would like to search what i said u can

JBVI

So do you think that Toei's anime is some kind of divine work or what? The anime is often cringe, immature and hard to watch, and has a lot of other problems, such as overly drawn-out scenes, pacing, and repetitive plots, to name a few. Sitting here and criticizing the work of hundreds of people who loved the original work (manga) and who created a very well-made version with great actors and sets is not honest.

Destiny Samuel

The live action is so much fun. I don’t know why people are calling it mid, when it’s just camp. Plus the live action did wonders with revolutionizing one piece franchise. There’s a whole new audience that started watching the anime after finishing the live action. So let’s put some respect on OPLA!

Destiny Samuel

Anyway, how often are you guys gonna be dropping these? Once a week? Once a day? 👀🤞🏾

DonDuh103

Thank yall for all the videos you give us didnt know this was coming, so thank you! L Luffy shoes no foot drip.

Tokyo Ghoul Supremacist

Luffy got kidnapped bc he tried attacking them by himself on impulse. How was Shanks supposed to predict that? When they spilled a drink on him and didn't hurt anyone, they were just drunk bums at a bar. He had no reason to hurt them. When they kidnapped Luffy, Shanks fought back bc they weren't just spilling drinks anymore. Again, this is exactly what One Piece has always been about If you think Shanks should've fought back that's a perfectly valid position, but manga's themes and reasoning here are pretty consistant with the rest of the story

ROSS

"We'll be posting our reactions Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays"

lian

crazy how far you guys have come

charlie

you are such a child bro

GBuckets

R u guys dropping one piece today?

Fatipapi (Byakuya’s Girl)

@JBVI who is even talking about Toei? 😂 go ahead bro, put more words in my mouth, these cheeks are squirrel grade

V1llam

Omg yes to LA one piece!!!!

Szonin

I really like the live action. There are also so many easter eggs in the show... many of whom you won't even recognize as well.

lana

so why are u here

Ftn

YOOOOOO

Tony

Bruh , Oda has always done this. He contradicts a lot of things 😂. Oda has Luffy say " People die " only for him to not want to kill his characters and have them survive things that Goku literally needs Ki to survive otherwise hes dead or " Luffy is not gonna beat Kaido with a Big Punch " only for him to do exactly that or " there will be no romance in the crew " but then literally writes 2 movies that are Luffy and Nami coded 😂 Oda is without a doubt the biggest troll of them all

xSaorix

NOOOO I wanted the next episodes lol

Saki 🏴‍☠️✨❤️‍🔥

i think iñaki portrays what hes given p well but i agree that him and a lot of the other characters are at least vaguely ooc in the live action, though i think that generally has a lot more to do with the script than the actors

Saki 🏴‍☠️✨❤️‍🔥

i know which is why i say that its understandable in terms of other rewatch content, but at the same time /this/ one just isnt really a rewatch - ever since opla came out a lot of reactors have reacted to both it and anime, which are very different from eachother and does not make the watch predictable for new viewers as they moved the plot around and changed aspects of the characters and their introductions/interactions

Michael H

Niiice. I really liked this adaptation until Arlong Park. Thought they dropped the ball pretty hard there, unfortunately, but maybe I’ll like it more on a second watch.

Diable Jambe Flores

I believe part of the reason was due to the writer’s strike.

Elle B.

I’ve never watched the anime, but I did watch this with my friend and enjoyed it!

wadad sk

I love the cast soo much, they really nailed it. Luffys actor himself reminds me of luffy, I love him so much. Oda handpicked the cast so we can have faith in them

Andrea

And they actually repurposed the ships from the black sails sets for the live-action, what a crossover.

lana

i feel like since theyre still not into one piece that much besides jack it will take them time to see that. they may not really feel the cast yet

Michael H

Yeah, that could be. I think the natural comparison to the anime didn’t help either; it was the strongest arc of that saga by a landslide, so it was always going to be difficult to live up to it.

relyct

I grew up watching One Piece and having seen so many versions I was positively surprised by the LA. Honestly, I love the cast and while some scenes are a bit wonky, it's kinda crazy to see how they not only adapted a battle shounen, but an outright crazy and old one at that. Characters that I find okay in the Anime/Manga, like Helmeppo and Buggy, are literally my fav here. And Luffy's actor is so charming. You kinda just have to laugh when he does, like in the Anime. He also has great chemistry, especially with Nami's actress in the first episode. I can't wait for you to see the rest. Though watching the Anime and LA at the same time must be kinda crazy for you. Little side note: The outfits, especially of the crew, are all from the Manga or Color Spreads Oda drew in the past. And things like Morgan capturing Captain Kuro, or Garp going to that Marine Base were also covered in the Manga.

GBuckets

you do realize this is an anime channel right?

Michelle

Namis outfit was an homage to the og character design which is pretty cool

Max Demian

He has a point though

Janice W

I'm actually glad you guys are watching this now rather than when it came out! Can't wait to see what you guys think😈They definitely took quite a few liberties with it so if something happens that you don't remember happening chances are it was changed😂

greyxwaren

eeh i wouldn’t say he’d disagree with what he’s presented unless we’re talking about the straw hats. matt owen’s was asked on a stream with hasan about it and this is what he said word for word: “we have conversations, of course, with Oda for the important characters, like what he really wants to make sure is represented in a particular character and we, as the production, will go through the casting process, come up with a choice or a couple of choices and then we will present them to Oda and say "Here's what we like about this person, what do you think?" and it becomes a conversation” oda got really busy with so many projects lining up and around the time the live action was at work he was dealing with eye issues and even got his surgery around that time too. plus with how much is on his plate he took more breaks this year alone compared to the his regular breaks. i don’t think he’ll argue over every character, especially (and this is my own opinion here) i believe the live action was an assassination of most characters writing spoilers(?) my general opinion of the LA really characters like zoro nami usopp and sanji had it the worst imo it felt like watching fan fiction rather than one piece translated to real life. i still look at the LA as it own thing. if oda is gonna argue with them about something i’d say he’d have A LOT of things to say on how they portrayed some of his characters

Safaricat

Oda selected the cast himself that's why they're so perfect. Fun Fact the anime VA's do the Japanese dub for the live action as well. I went back and watched some of it in Japanese dub and it was soooooo perfect.

Silentwtf

lowkey excited for this

Silentwtf

pacing gotta be much quicker, the actors do age for starters lmao

Silentwtf

yall should add a schedule and like highlight or something so its always first to see, kinda like nicholas light

Tokyo Ghoul Supremacist

Yeah that's damn near perfect. Did you want the actor to have line art eyes bruh?

aubrey

excited for you guys to finally watch the live action! there's lots of mixed reviews abt the live action from long time fans not just in your comments but pretty much everywhere; imo the live action is better than I expected it to be however there are a lot of characterization and dynamic issues within the live action that take away from the original show and change things in a heavier way than casual watchers realize. some call it nit pickey but I think its just as valid to criticize the live action as it is to love it. enjoy it as its own thing and dont expect it to be a perfect adaptation to represent the source material!

Fatipapi (Byakuya’s Girl)

😂😂 no ofc not hahaha but the head shape is way different, gives him a totally different vibe/look. And the colored lenses look very ‘fake’. Theres plenty of shows where they make the eyes look a diff color realistically

xSaorix

uhhh....I would say Luffy was way more feisty as a kid

Lori

Zoro’s actor is an incredible martial artist in real life. Hence why his fight choreography is so good.

Mitch

He’s also fluent in Japanese

Lori

Bc he IS Japanese

jrnoodles

Thanks! I'm enjoying this a lot more than when it first released.

jemmy

OMG???? IM just seeing this???

jemmy

I 've not watched One Piece anime but I personally liked the live action

Galaxy Nemesis

You guys saw Luffy eat the fruit in the anime too. It happend episode 7 during the flashback.

Amy M

i think the casting for the live action is so good. Inaki is such a perfect luffy

cade-carter

ep 2 is probably the best of S1

cade-carter

this is your calling to watch the anime with the Gek team

Chi T.

Now that the Geks have started One Piece Live Action and have seen Mackenyu, they should check out the Rurouni Kenshin Live Action movies!!

Tokyo Ghoul Supremacist

Idk boss maybe you picked a bad picture cause those two make it look like a perfect recreation. Deffo got even the chin angle down correct. Don't think I could imagine a more anime accurate Mihawk. The eyes could've been better maybe but even they aren't that distracting for me. Seems like a monumental nitpick of probably the most well adapted character in the show

SlamboHamburg

Iñaki Godoy is so great as Luffy 😭 the casting is wonderful

Mr. John Kagurabachi

I thought his acting was a little off in the actual show but weirdly in all his interviews he acts wayyy more like Luffy. I’m a big fan of him as an individual person haha

Mr. John Kagurabachi

Nah back off my boy Mitch. I’m Korean but I dont speak an inch of that language. Zoro’s actor was born and grew up in Los Angeles. Bros an American who learned Japanese.

Lori

He is *Japanese American.

Destiny Samuel

So when you said, “Monday Wednesday and Friday,” does that include today? 😏

Lori

Those are peak live action adaptations. It doesn't get better than that lol

lana

thats what im waiting to see 😩

Marcus D

He and his team were sent versions of the script from time to time and they would read it over and give their notes(recommendations for any changes) and that’s it, in the end it’s up to the main live action writing team(located in LA) to make the final decisions. You should be able look that ep fairly easy and even look at the screenplay writing credits. It was by oda it’ll say so. Oda did not head or write the story for the live action, he was just a creative supervisor with authoritative power to interviene in decisions if he really felt it necessary. More of a supervisor rather than heading any part main part of production, not saying he wasn’t very active with it though.

Dasha

nah it’s ep 5😮‍💨

jemmy

I know right?? But I've been trying to lock in for years now lmaoo😂

Lettuce

It’s okay to voice your opinion but was it really necessary to immediately resort to insults? If you can voice your opinion than others can criticize it that’s just life

Lettuce

Buggy in this is way hotter than endeavor I’m sorry

PIRATE_QUEEEN

Are we getting the 2nd episode of this today?

studiogek

It’ll start being MWF next week, we just dropped the first episode for hype. I’ll drop episode 2 tomorrow and then episode 3 on Monday

Mitch

Yea like wtf. Plenty of people are born in a certain country and don’t speak the language or represent a national but aren’t fluent. I’m German but don’t speak a single word of it. Such a weird thing to reply lmaooo🤣🤣🤣

le

AHHHH SO EXCITED

Galaxy Nemesis

So was I wrong? He is Japanese and a Japanese speaker right? Why are you trying to make the exception the rule..? According to you it is somehow outrageous that I suggested a Japanese person can likely speak Japanese? 😳 I seriously cant beileve im being called out for this. This is NUTS 😂 You guys need to take a break from the internet. Really think about what you are lashing out about… Please relax.

Lori

His parents are Japanese born. I would be shocked if he didn’t grow up in a bilingual household. He didn’t need to “learn” Japanese. (I’m also an Asian American who grew up in a bilingual household)

Lori

I think the takeaway here is that every Asian American experience is unique, and while educated guesses are inevitable, we shouldn’t assert assumptions as fact. Thanks for the reminder, guys.

Goatcheezey

The sets for the live action really are amazing

Stairguy

I HAVE BEEN WAITING TWO YEARS FOR THIS. I CAN NOT WAIT

Stairguy

There’s no ABC here. It’s ABF, Zoro Always Be Farming

Stairguy

These kind of comments are actually kind of weird to me. First, Oda was heavily involved in this so it is what he wanted most likely. Second, it can’t be like the anime because the anime already exists. In other words you never make these 1 to 1. What would be the point? You already have the anime, you can just go back and watch it. The anime itself doesn’t follow the source material perfectly… A third point but not directly related; I don’t think it’s valid to criticize based on the anime since that’s not even the source material. The manga is. And considering Oda changed the direction of his own story, it was never meant to be as big as it is originally, then making small timeline changes in the LA which can’t go as long actually makes sense. As long as the bones are there and characters are right, which I personally think they are, I think it’s fine 🤷🏻‍♂️

I’m Maya

When kpop reaction ???

aubrey

@Stairguy I said show but i'm not a huge fan of toei's adaption either so I should have said source material/manga yes, but either way my point is that the live action /doesn't/ really get the characters right. OPLA spoilers ahead; in episode one luffy didnt inspire koby to stand up for himself against alvida, he made the decision for koby while koby stood back and cowered. zoro is way too stoic and one dimensional, in OPLA hes saying hes not in the crew after romance dawn for whatever reason when in the source material he left romance dawn as the official first member. sanji and usopp have hardly any screentime in their own arcs and as a result we did not get usopp giving his life in a fight and we did not get sanji's relationship with gin. luffy ate sanjis food before inviting him on the ship. garp denounced the marines using pirates for their own gain (like canon garp would) but five minutes later he calls up a warlord to kill luffy? a completely personal goal? luffy questions his ability to beat arlong, listens in on nami's backstory, and for some reason cocoyashi does not know that nami sacrificed herself and actively hates her, resulting in arlong attacking the village he's exploiting financially seemingly for no reason. these are all seemingly small things, but there's just so many of these little issues that mess up core aspects of the characters and set the stage for future arcs. so, yes, unfortunately even with oda's involvement (which we do not know the full extent of) there are a good portion of things that it is valid to criticize. again, it is not the worst adaption by far, but it is understandable that fans are mixed.

Ninaly

Dude with you guys playing league every day and picking up OP live action as well, I'm back on my Patreon sub as well as Twitch! :)

Ray 🧟‍♀️

No way the trailer reaction was already 2 years ago 😭😭

Liberty

So fun fact - the actor for Coby is transmasc, meaning that as he goes further in his journey to getting the body he feels best in, the more of a glow-up Coby will get! Looking forward to it! Also, the reason Luffy can't wear sandals is due to health and safety. It is what it is.

Mimi

WAIT HOW DID I MISS THIS!!

hanji

got my subscription back for this let’s goo
