Lessss gooooo time for soge kings backstory

fia

he's so fineeee

terror squad

Question, I used to be able to stream your videos from patreon app directly to my chromecast, for like 1-2 weeks now, that option has dissapeared, can anyone help with that pls?

Tigerclaw

Not hating on OP but I was excited bc I thought it was mha 😭

Poragami

Ok wait, are Monday and Wednesday just goated days? MHA, Stranger Things and OPLA?

Qhoa

W

Initial D.

The goat is here, he's gonna carry the show now

Mr. John Kagurabachi

Why is Cannon giving such a devious side eye in the thumbnail LOL

Frida BØ

I don’t really feel like starting the anime yet but i want to at some point. Would it ruin or kinda affect the anime for me if i started watching this first? What do people recommend? 😊

draeonic 🪼

they're playing go wrong I hate it 😭

EmlovesOP

I read the title I laughed yall be playinggf

JevCor

I think you'd be fine watching this first, if you end up being really interested in the story one pace could get you caught up somewhat quickly in the anime.

Ana

The actor for usopp 🫦😩

Jimmy

Anyone watch the Demon Slayer movie? Animation, Camerawork, and Cinematography was ABSOLUTELY PEAK. Backstories felt way too long tho like just give me the fights pleaseeeeee

Hegataro

On Usopp's nose, the creators said that the work necessary to do it for every scene he's in is too much when it only really exists for the rare nose-breaking gag and the "he looks like Pinocchio because he's a liar" visual gag Buggy shows up rarely, so having the actor do all of his scenes in like a day or two with the prosthetics made more sense than Usopp who shows up prominently in every episode from now on Plus they do still reference those manga details in the form of the intro skulls and other little beats, as a nod to those who know

Sasha Ruple

I get why they did it, but they gave Garp and Koby way too much screen time imo. Takes a bit too much away from the main cast's development for my liking

NMP

You guys should play Borderlands 4. Clears Destiny

Hegataro

My best guess on the weird fish eye lens close ups is that they were a way to get around filming restrictions during Covid - you could only have so many people on set at a time, so hide that by making the background blurry to distract from the fact the town is only populated by like 6 people And also, the Garp, Koby & Helmeppo stuff is in the manga, but only as extras - they were put into the anime as filler (despite being canon), so you skipped it

Nanami's Wife

I think you're fine watching this first and when you start the anime you'll definitely fall in love with it more, especially after Arlong Park. Another reactor, Haylo and Kiss, started with the live action and then transitioning to watching the anime in OG. They are now 500+ into the anime and they absolutely love it! I think you shouldn't do one pace to catch up with the anime. You should just enjoy the ride in OG and don't need to rush yourself to catch up. It's all about the journey. I promise, once you catch up you will feel empty having to wait a week for an episode😭

vayadore

if ur complaining ab the backstories just don’t watch the next 2 movies bro.

Michael H

I actually think it would be a cool perspective watching this first, then seeing how the anime does it. There’s really only one big future spoiler that the live action gives away, but it’s not a huge deal.

draeonic 🪼

H&K fell into it so hard, it was beautiful 😂 "we're not gonna watch the anime" > "we're going to watch the anime but only up to the end of the LA so we can watch S2 unspoiled" > "OKAY SO ACTUALLY"

HeavenlyR

One of the showrunners said that television needs to have more room for character development so people think Zoro will get less edgy as the show goes on Who knows if they'll actually do it and he'll smile and joke more in season 2 but it makes sense if they do want to go that route as he was just a lone wolf bounty hunter for years and has to adjust to being in a crew.

Hansen

yeah it feels rly weird with already limited time

Ciara

As a long time viewer it’s definitely crazy how much they changed zoro and ussops character in the live action but it’s fine also as someone who’s caught up to one piece let ussop cook trust in character growth they did portray him better in the live action than in the early episodes of the anime though😭

lawswater

i hope so, that makes the most sense

Francesca

They made Nami way too judgmental toward certain groups, especially the rich, when she’s never been like that. Plus, she never stole from regular people (even the rich ones), only from pirates. I just don’t get that choice. Too bad, ’cause the actress is really good.

Zipzzty

Usopp THE GOAT. Nah Live Action Syrup Village is good

Mr. John Kagurabachi

The OPLA will make you see why Sanji is a GOAT and Zoro is an edgy fraud who needs three swords just to compete 🗣️🔥

Ciara

Also as someone who’s caught up to one piece I like how the live action is slightly different it gives us new content to watch where we know what happens but not exactly how so it’s really cool to see an alternate version of how the show could have been

Zipzzty

2:40 fr it’s pathetic Usopp was 17 trying to ragebait

DontFailArtSchoolEren

so the best arc in One Piece is the first 100 episodes and skip the rest, got it.

fia

it doesn't ruin the anime imo, and in fact they are two different experiences despite being the same story. go for it‼️‼️

Mr. John Kagurabachi

Ussop isn’t annoying but actually lies in a cool and charming way? Another L for the OPLA! We are supposed to hate him grr 😡

Cat

Will not stand for the soup slander cannon

Dee

real 😫😍

Gabe P

Gotta say I’m really glad you guy’s are watching this retroactively rather than before you started the anime. Another reaction channel watched the LA first and when they got to the Post-Eneis Lobby arc they were kinda disappointed the LA spoiled Garp

Jude

Before I watched OPLA I was excited to see the more easy going and jovial Zoro like he was in early OP but was sad to just see an edgelord. I think OPLA does a lot of things great but the Zoro personality was definitely not one of them at least in my opinion.

Den Wolf

This feels like the live action takes itself way too seriously.

Andrea

Look at Garp having quality time with his favourite grandson🤭

charlie

it’s like one piece week again!

Ella

i prefer live action usopp 1000x more

Mahti

The soup take was diabolical

Ella

i always approach live actions as its own thing. i read the manga and watch the anime so i don’t want something that’s 1:1. as long as the creative changes make sense and tie in together, i’m good.

Mahti

Definitely recommend using One Pace or reading the manga if the pacing starts to bother you in the anime. One Piece is such a great story but got done dirty by Toei animations.

Zipzzty

33:20 NEPOTISM MENTION LMAOOOOOO IYKYK

ashton does nothing

for me i actually don’t like how edgy zoro is in this, it sounds like he’s trying too hard instead of anime zoro who feels like he has like conviction and honor/pride idk i could be wrong

1804

USOPP TIME

cozo

hes lowkey right

Spidey

I agree with cannon soup is mid. unless its tomato soup with some turkey sandwiches

GoDiegoGo

Zoro wants to be sasuke so bad

Marcus D

Actual the writer Steve Maeda said that he and the live action team believed that the season 1 story would be too bland/boring so they decided to add Garp an his team as another continuous story line to follow. Oda didn’t want this and constantly rejected the proposal but finally gave in after months of persistence.

Spidey

It spoils some crazy reveals but its nothing too crazy. If this makes you want to watch one piece more then do it. I would still watch the anime from the start afterwards though. wouldnt reccomend starting from where live action left off.

Spidey

For the most part i'd agree but bro some arcs need one pace like foxy pirates and dressrosa. Drressrosa being one of the best arcs in one piece is ruined by bad pacing .

Promanex(Alex)

Every new outfits that they have are actually from the cover pages that Oda drew in the manga so these outfits are actually cannon!

1804

Yes, I take it as another op timeline

jblakk

I forgot to defend Cannon earlier about this but I'm a soup hater too!!! We exist, we're out there!

saida

i actually can't wait for sanji's episode, BARATIE HURRY UP ALREADYYY!

Bri

Nah I think it’s a great version to watch especially if one piece is too long for you. It captures the feeling of the show and I’ve seen a lot of people watch the live action and decide to watch the anime. Hope you enjoy it!

lana

NO SAME BEST MAN

Patrick Bateman

We should also be getting MHA and Stranger Things today, right ?

Verk

Broooo when is the One Piece anime??

지원

tmr?

Jo

I love Usopp so much! So excited to see your reactions to Sanji!

xSaorix

...? Sasuke isn't trash wth. What's up with people choosing to like one thing and hate one thing? You can like both.

xSaorix

Zoro is no where this snarky (he's honestly not even snarky AT ALL) or sassy

Zess

Tuesday and Thursday my man

Coach

W

Zess

Completely different characters with entirely different motivations and morals lol just because lil edge with sword doesn't make them the same. Also Zoro was created before Sasuke you realize right?

Kim 555

What about a think Lentil soup with fried bread crumbs and a lemon squeeze? What about grilled veggies tomato soup with grilled cheese to dip it in? Hmm

Diable Jambe Flores

Nah I don’t have to like trash ass Sasuke. And this ain’t coming from a lame “One Piece vs Naruto” take. Naruto is awesome. Sasuke is the character that is trash.

xSaorix

Nami is not like THIS and neither is Zoro. Bad judgement Jack

SavDog23

Luffy to the Going Merry: "You can talk?"👌

Marcus D

They’re from the early volume covers and also colour spreads,we don’t know if the straw hats actually ever wore them so not canon but they are designed by oda yeah.

Promanex(Alex)

Anime Zoro just feels effortlessly cool, live action Zoro is like trying to be cool making his voice deeper and shit

GoDiegoGo

Damn guys, I was just making a joke about zoro acting like an edgy teenager in this. I should've known better.

relyct

Nami rant incoming and spoiler for LA only: Calling Nami mean or acting like she thinks she knows everything really misses her character. She’s been sailing and stealing since she was eight, always from pirates or the rich, to save her village from Arlong. In that time she’s only had negative experiences, and as a woman she’s also had to deal with men trying to take advantage of her (said in the Anime/Manga). So keeping control and acting guarded isn’t ego, it’s survival. Her stealing a few fancy decor pieces from Kaya isn’t cruelty either. And just because we as viewers know Kaya is kind (and being poisoned by Kuro), doesn’t mean Nami has to trust that. Even Kuro himself seems nice at first. From Nami’s perspective, Kaya is just another rich person — and her life experience tells her most rich people are selfish or corrupt. She’s always been fair too, openly telling Luffy she wasn’t part of his crew and standing by her role as a thief. She’s not doing it for herself, but for her village. But strangers don’t need to know that. Her view of the rich might come across as prejudice, but that prejudice is a self-defense mechanism to keep her from getting hurt again. And let’s be honest, in the OP world, we’ve seen this over and over: Baratie, the auction house in Sabaody… most of the wealthy are terrible people. Besides Kaya (and maybe Vivi), how many good rich people have we even met? Do you think there are any kind Celestial Dragons out there? That’s why I think Nami’s actually really well written. She has no one to rely on, the Navy is corrupt too, so she’s always had to keep her guard up. But over time we see her start to loosen around Luffy and the crew. Just like Luffy helps Zoro chase his dream again, he helps Nami do the same, and slowly trust others. She pushes for her own agency, doesn’t want to be seen as weak, but also has to act tough to survive. That’s exactly what Kaya appreciates in their talk. Nami is the first person to actually see her that way. So yeah, if you don’t like LA Nami, you don’t like her. But I think it’s worth remembering she’s carrying all of this with her, and that’s why she acts the way she does. I also find it ironic that Usopp's intentions are written more clear in the LA, while Nami's are kept more vague.

JevCor

Probably stranger things first and then MHA.

Sasha (Yare Yare Daze)

I think from this episode on she is only going to steal from pirates. So the problem is solved

Grae

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CARTER!!!

Sasha (Yare Yare Daze)

When Usopp is a better character than Zoro you know they messed up. I don't remember Zoro as this edge lord so maybe the future episodes are gonna make him happier🤔

ainsley

soup is overrated i fear

Murasaki

Sanji and Usopp are my favorites in LA, surprisingly good. Luffy is ok. Nami and Zoro feel like totally different from the anime.

jemmy

Yall's reaction to edgy Zoro is cracking me up so much lmaooo

wadad sk

This is so funny how last video i literally said how i love the cast (i do still, cast is amazing) but i genuinely forgot how Zoro's character acted lool it's cuz Luffy, Usopp and you'll see later Sanji, nailed their characters. Buggy, as well, i loved him in the live action. They took away all of Zoro's personality, like he is so silly, we literally saw him act like he's tarzan in skypiea, can't imagine this zoro doing that. They also made Nami so depressing, she's also a very silly character who's loud. But hey, ig they can't nail every character, I'll appreciate the ones they did nail.

Grae

Oh I didn't see the "soon" 😭

EmlovesOP

this is def where it gets better

Kayya Rainey

I’m not sure where to ask this but will yall be doing reactions to Gen V season 1 and season 2 that comes out the 17th for The Boys next year ?

Kim 555

They used to drop reactions to The Boys but they stopped. So I don't think they'll be doing Gen V

Kim 555

HELL. NO.

Nami and Zoro are the biggest fumbles in the live action IMO. Luffy is basically as good as you can get while still having him be a believable live action character. Zoro and Nami are both way too emotionally flat. Zoro at least has the most goated fight choreography of the show though. Nami grew on me by the finale and Arlong Park helps her a bit but I'd prefer more. Anime Nami hid her pain behind smiles, live action Nami hides it behind a wall of drying paint. Usopp is fantastic and I love every time he's on screen. I never disliked his anime version like some people did but he really has the charisma going in live action. I won't go into detail for spoilers but I quite enjoy Sanji as well. Coby is also perfect and the added time with him is one of my favorite aspects of the live action. The anime skipping straight to showing him after enies lobby felt like wasted potential. Garp so far is a little too serious but we are getting glimpses of a more goofy side.

CatchyGhost

I watched the live action first, then the anime. I just scrolled through my old messages I sent to a friend while watching the anime and, direct quote, "I liked Nami a lot more in the live action" lol. I apparently thought that LA Nami was for sure more pessimistic, but also more realistic and less explosively angry. She seemed more capable. In retrospect, I think LA Nami is a realistic representation of someone who has been through what she's experienced. It's maybe not as fun, but I did really sympathize with her character more.

CatchyGhost

That being said, you guys are dead on about edgy Zoro lol, you vindicated my feelings. I liked him well enough in the LA, but he was by far my favorite character for the first half of the anime.

Douglas

Y'all are some of the most judgmental people I've seen lol

TrueCrisp

I think the director said they showed more of Garp and Koby because they wanted there to be an enemy in pursuit for the live action

Tivy

I haven’t seen One Piece, just came to the comments out of curiosity. From what I’ve noticed they usually are more critical of live actions than anime. Makes sense for adaptations, but they have warmed up to shows before. (Also what about this one makes you say they’re judgemental? I’m not following so I’m curious.)

Andrew Lynch

No wayyy I checked just in canes but thought there was 0 chance of an upload again

xSaorix

They are literally NOT

Justin ⟢

Might be a hot take but I'm not really a fan of the live action counterpart of Luffy. It's obviously a big ask to portray such an iconic character but the live-action show's version never really resonated with me. It's also pretty difficult to capture Luffy's expressions and mannerisms from the OG which is understandable, but that's a major part of what made him my favourite character in the first place.

Andrew Lynch

True I like this nami a lot too as a different character

sil 🧸ྀི

soup > sandwiches HANDS DOWN COME ON CANNON

Miguel

I agree with Jack, Zoro is not that different in the anime, he still has that lone wolf vibe in the anime aswell

sil 🧸ྀི

i heard they tried making syrup village have horror-like aspects which i think worked so well!! the creepy mansion, the mysterious butlers/staff, poisoning the heiress, etc. i definitely like it more than the anime arc lmao i love the set and the lighting so much in this

greyxwaren

it actually makes less sense to start edgy and stoic at the start and get more silly later. zoro was more easy going at the start because the stakes weren't so high, the more dangers we face the more zoro started to be more on guard. he was never really 'edgy' in the anime jack you must be joking. he had his one liners sure but even then the line delivery had emotions. i bet if you switch to the dub you can see how much the scenes are improved just by fixing the tone alone. makenyu's line delivery is probably the worst in his performance as zoro because that's the only thing in his control, he cant control how the LA character is written.

greyxwaren

watch the anime. this is only a waste of time in the long run. i've seen reactors who started with this and when they watched the anime they expressed how they regretted watching the LA first

greyxwaren

you could do the same as the geks and watch the anime till episode 400 maybe and watch the LA if you're really curious

Hegataro

Also in the manganime, Nami never shows any sort of ulterior motives pre-Arlong until she steals the Going Merry on Baratie. Before then she basically is just a member of the crew In the LA it's more obvious, but also more realistic, that there's something going on behind the scenes

Spidey

Nah its mid still, tomato soup is good but i use turkey sandwiches to dip instead, grilled cheese mad overrated aswell.

zoro's enma

I agree with you guys on zoro, hes my favorite character so I was pretty pissed off about this adaptation of him 😭 Tho I do think mackenyu is the perfect cast for zoro, I think the directors are doing a shitty job when it comes to zoro, even if the show is its own show, its just so weird to see a character who's always so serious and got no other side to him. They wanted the live action to feel more realistic but what's so realistic about a character who's got no emotions?. I don't agree that hes like this in the anime too, zoro has soo many sides to himself throughout the entire anime, usually he just doesn't care to chip in and hes only serious when it is a serious situation. I feel like the portrayal of zoro here is almost boring and zoro is never boring. Love machenyu tho, I jus hope they went back to the vision board for zoro in s2.

Lil Mimi

More like a baddie type Nami

relyct

Especially and unfortunately the more the shows going on too. Not to spoil too much, but the Geks really have seen "the best" of Zoro character-wise.

Marcus D

Don’t mind them Diego, I got the joke and I liked it. And I really like anime zoro and am not a big fan of Sasuke.

Miguel

Yeah sadly thats why I kinda dropped the show, it become more and more apparent that it was the "luffy show" and the other characters personalities/ambitions ebb and flow changed to match it

Lil Mimi

I’m starting to like Usopp too

jrnoodles

Thanks Geks! I think in the live action they should've have showed that Ussop is a liar before the whole pirate thing. I also think Kuro has an uncanny valley face in the live action.

Sasha Ruple

The unrealistic thing in One Piece has always been the setting and powers. The emotions and character motivations have always been strong, and in this adaptation all the characters are reduced to basic tropes

Chris Schwirz

I think you guys would’ve liked usopp way more in dub. Also I hate how zoro is so serious all the time. He gets more stoic over time in the anime but it sucks they zapped out all of the life in his character

1804

Agreed, although I always liked Zoro that way, I love his "humorous" side too. I think in the la this side of him is more noticeable. I'd like to add I don't think la zoro and anime/manga zoro are the same but I also don't think they're thaat different either, definetly not the same though.

xSaorix

Exactly. And idk what Jack is saying Zoro has always been expressive before and after Mihawk. After Mihawk, he was much closer to Luffy, and doesn’t mumble all the time. He yells at Luffy plenty even when it’s right when they meet. So it’s like…no this is not Zoro.

xSaorix

He absolutely IS. This is crazy that people are actually saying that Zoro is the same in the anime. He doesn’t make jokes, but he is far more expressive. For example, have you heard him yell at Luffy even once? Or look surprised? Right from the get go, Zoro has always been expressive when he cares. Even something as small as that is deleted cuz all this guy does is mumble

Nigos The Titan

Thankfully, I heard they're gonna make him a little less stoic in season 2, in response to all the criticism.

1804

I think it can be a fun experience and I personally don't think it really "ruins" the anime/manga experience (there are some early reveals but that's it). It's a fun adaptation and the anime will always be there.

humbleandkindness

This channel was literally founded on being judgmental lol

humbleandkindness

The thing about Zoro is that he thinks he’s super cool, and he is, but also he’s a bit of a loser,, they definitely got the “I think everything I do and say is awesome” feeling down, but I definitely agree that they need some more light hearted moments where it’s obvious he’s just as weird and funny as the rest of them instead of drawing out humor from his “edginess”.

humbleandkindness

Didn’t she take everyone’s wallets on the way out of town when she left w the strawhats or am I trippin

humbleandkindness

I see the live action as a way to get non-fans invested in the spirit of the story, even though it’s not a one to one - I think going in with that mindset would be best

Mahti

Blasphemy

Ana

Think because it’s live action they can’t have everyone being a goofy character. Also more serious tone with live action. Yes zoro is edgy in this adaptation but I feel that’s because his character development depends on the rest of the crew. Spending time with them will be what opens him up more. Especially after being so alone for a long time Everything is condensed in the live action so they have to hit certain story beats

Miguel

I mean they are all more expressive in the anime cause well, its an anime, Zoro might have the biggest gap but all I'm saying it's the overall vibe is the same

SSana

So before watching this, I was most excited for seeing Zoro as the bts fighting clips were amazing. But as I was watching this I found Zoro to be the weakest adapted character. If those were his lines I guess there's not much he can do with them (?), but I'm glad other people feel the same. That said, I do think the casting choices have been amazing, for example Mackenyu (Zoro's actor) is probably one of the only if not the only Japanese actor fluent in English + (relatively) muscular build.

Nami Swannn

The Usopp hype at the beginning 😂 But ya OPLA has much faster pacing no need to be worried

Nami Swannn

SYRUP VILLAGE BEST EPISODE SO FAR USOPP STOCKS RISING ⁉️📈

Francesca

Actually, I think the scene you’re referring to isn’t really about Nami stealing from “common people.” That moment has a deeper meaning. Nami left her entire treasure to the villagers so they could rebuild their lives. By taking their wallets, she made it look like she had left on her usual “thieving” terms, so they wouldn’t feel burdened, guilty, or sad about her departure. It wasn’t greed or theft in the true sense, it was her way of protecting them emotionally while still giving them the resources they needed to start anew.

Yoshio Okumoto

OMG so many comments xD IDK if you are gonna read this but, some facts: - The clothes they wear are from the some first pages from the manga - The "Funky Bar" Zoro mentions, is from one of the first movies

LaurAbroad

I can’t see the first 2 eps here :(

cade-carter

this isnt bad, but buggy has the best episode with how damn creepy he is

Herman Salvesen

They might be trying to give him a more clear character arc where he starts of as edgy but slowly gets more comfortable with the crew as time passes. In the anime he kinda just goes from a lone wolf type character to a lighthearted and funny character while keeping some edgyness as soon as he meets luffy. I like the idea of stretching that transition a little further to make him feel more real.

Nami Swannn

Buggys actor did kill it true!

wanira 11

I enjoyed syrup village way more in the live action compared to the anime

wanira 11

The actor for Kuro absolutely nailed this role, he looks just like him it's crazy

wanira 11

Ya guys never had good soup

humbleandkindness

True 🙂‍↕️ I just hope he’s opened up enough to strike That Pose in Little Garden because I won’t lie I WILL be devastated if that scene doesn’t happen,, I’d also like to see a little shit-talking happening with a smile, especially at Whiskey Peak

Stairguy

100%. I enjoy all of these arcs more in the LA than in the anime. I didn’t really care for the show until they got to the Grandline

Stairguy

It’s not a hot take, just an uncommon one. I think you’re the first person I have heard say that. But opinions are valid 👍🏼

Fairy Mary

Wait!? Where are the first two episodes?

DietCocaine

Ussop was definitely my favorite strawhat in the live action same with sanji

wanira 11

I loved Emily's portrayl of Nami too

DietCocaine

she was good but i thought her and zoro should’ve had more emotion in the earlier episodes felt a little flat

Miitei

I think they are in the one piece anime collection for some reason

wanira 11

It makes sense in Nami's case though, she's on her guard. Careful to trust pirates because of her background, it's only later she loosens up. In the anime she was more jovial, but if they had to do a live action adaptation, this feels like the more realistic route for her character

Basquiat

Is niceness a virtue to yall or something ?

Szonin

I think the close-up shots are a bit too much in the first season. Also they had different directors for each episode so some are clearly better than others. I think they did Syrup Village nicely, but it's sad that some parts of the story are missing like Jango for example. RIP Merry

Dani G

This was Emily’s dream role. She’s loved the anime for years. She killed it as Nami.

Zipzzty

44:50 😭😭😭

Kite

"no way Nami has some sort of an arc" bruh

schreib_chaos (Annika Schuster)

I'm not a fan of this Syrup Village arc. All the scenes felt so streched, the camera stays too long on the scenes/faces, it feels very flat most of the time and the creepy vibe didnt work for me at all. Dont get me even started on ep 4 :( :D I cringed a lot and in most reactions I skip these parts, I just cant with them. But yes, Usopp is a delight and alone from appearance Kuro is nice as well.

Liberty

I think, with Zoro's character, they're trying to go from lone wolf who doesn't open up to others easily, to becoming comfortable over time. It's a bit different to manga and anime Zoro, but it's not like that ISN'T Zoro - especially when dealing with others outside the crew. He IS a bit stand-offish. The difference is that in the manga/anime he immediately opened up to Luffy and the others because he felt at home right away, where-as they're slow-cooking his warming up to the crew in the Live Action to make it a bit more realistic to how someone like him would act. It does take away a little from Luffy's insane charismatic draw but I don't hate the change. A little jarring in comparison but it's fine and still fits his character.

Liberty

Funky Bar is from a cover story where Jango and Fullbody first met during a dance competition. It eventually led to Jango joining the Marines and the both of them working for Hina. It's basically a nod to the fans to say "Yes, we know we removed Jango, but hey, have a tip and wink mention."

Liberty

Mackenyu loves One Piece and has a history of live action anime adaptions. I think they're going for a lone wolf to loyal dog type beat with his character, which isn't exactly against his character - he does tend to be stand-offish when interacting with people outside the crew even in manga/anime, it's just that in manga/anime he was instantly comfortable in the crew and softened immediately. They're obviously going for a slow-burn approach in the live action, but he'll likely open up over time. It works as a more realistic approach to the character, which is what they've been doing for most of the character - making them less unrealistic in small ways, more grounded in realism at points. This is just Zoro's 'realism' aspect kicking in.

Liberty

I think it's a mix of both. The other characters have been a bit more grounded in realism in small ways, and this was how they choose to 'realistic-ize' Zoro a bit, by making him open up slowly instead of the near-instant openness he has in the anime/manga. It's wholly in-character for him, though, because he IS slow to open to people he doesn't trust fully or who are outside the crew - we've seen that many times - it's just that Luffy won him over pretty instantly in the anime/manga so it comes off as odd when you look at it from old fan who sees his distance with Luffy and the others as weird. It'll change, I'm sure.

Liberty

I feel the plan was to always make him a slow-to-trust character and have him warm up over time anyway - it reads that way through the season and works perfectly fine with his character. The thing is that Zoro DOES act like this towards people who aren't crew and who he doesn't trust. He's cold and stand-offish towards them. The reason it feels weird here, though, is that in the anime/manga he IMMEDIATELY took to Luffy, trusted him and his crewmates and thus is more open with them from the start. He doesn't in the live action - he's taking a while to grow that trust but we'll see it happen over time. Also, Zoro IS stoic and cool, he's also a dumbass though, which we haven't gotten to see much of, but there are moments of idiot in the live action (walking away from the mansion when it was RIGHT THERE, for example).
