Let’s gooooo

Merielle

i was not expecting this, lets gooooo!!

Sid

Perfect timing I literally just finished episode 5!

fia

wanpiisu

지원

we eating good today

Jae Winter

One piece drop let’s gooo

Pace

Nearly went crazy for a sec cause I read one piece and thought they dropped episodes 404-405 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

Sid

I think y'all should be able to talk spoilers for this one, its impossible not to bring up the anime and make comparisons about what you liked better and what you didn't. As a viewer I would like to hear those conversations but thats just my opinion.

LeBron Glazer (Bronsexual)

Arlong needs to be bigger. Is Lucci just gonna be a regular sized human leopard in the future? 😭😭😭

Bri

This live action made me start the one piece anime 🙏🏼

lana

the sexiest man alive istg. im in love with taz

kuza

i saw one piece got excited and then saw it was the live action i almost forgot 🤦‍♂️

Ciara

Yeah when we say sanjis actor trained for this part you can tell by his build😭

Ciara

Yeah y’all should just make a disclaimer that you guys will be referencing spoilers from the anime bc it’s impossible not to compare and talk about it

Ciara

I used to be iffy about luffys actor but fell in love w him when I finished the show and after I watched little interviews of the cast luffy actually acts most like his character in real life he low key fits luffys vibe more out of the show than in the show 😭 but there are cool vids where he meets luffys Japanese va and she places the straw hat on his head and a vid where he meets Oda that were really cool! Oda said that he’s exactly how he imagined luffy in real life

Bambi

Fun fact: Inaki (luffy) has learnt japanese because of this role inspiring him. He's actually quite fluent now!

Seda

the anime changed the amount of days they were stranded to 47 days since they censored zeff eating his leg. it would have been too far fetched for a human to survive 85 days without eating anything. just one more reason i love the live action; it really gave justice to their backstory and zeff’s sacrifice

Jimmy

Top 3 Characters from the Live Action: 1. Sanji 2. Mihawk 3. Usopp I do wonder if theyre going to skip certain arcs cus the actors and realism of the show are running out of time. Like if they got to Marineford they would need an Avengers level budget to pull that off.

Spoons

I actually remember seeing an interview with a producer of the show say that it took a lot of convincing to get Oda to approve the Garp change. Every other change I think Oda was pretty good with

Dounia

When you know about the personality of the guy that plays Luffy you realize that in the show he is not really acting because he is literally real life Luffy ! The Luffy you see in the live action is literally how the actor is in real life. That’s why Oda chose him to play Luffy because he immediately saw his character. I get what you’re saying about him trying too hard but I swear if you get the chance to see some interviews or anything that includes the actor you’re going to be like “that’s literally the way he is in the show”

Mr. John Kagurabachi

For the season finale, I would love for you guys to rank the cast and also react to s2 trailer. It would be so hype 🔥

Sid

I felt the exact same way about Luffy,. The show should have relied more on portraying who Luffy is through his actions and less through his dialogue.

ahmad

They nerfed the f out of luffy

TrueCrisp

WHICH ONE OF YOU IS ARLONG 🗣️🗣️🗣️

Aaaaaa

Don’t be shy, post the next one✨

Mr. John Kagurabachi

Zeff high key so underrated. I think he was casted and acted so well.

Mr. John Kagurabachi

There’s a very interesting character dynamic with Zeff that goes unheard of. He purposely chose to eat his leg rather than his arms. Why would he do that if his whole fighting style uses his feet? It’s cuz his true purpose of being a pirate was to find the all blue and cook food. I think that kind of hidden emotional story telling is really interesting. Similar to how sanji never uses his hands to fight because he wants to protect them to remain a cook.

beannie

I hope they can react to some extra content that the cast did to promote the live action😭 some interviews or Iñaki meeting oda

Alex

kind of hard to make characters as big and over the top as the manga/anime does without blowing huge amounts of budget on cgi (that people would just complain about looking bad anyway). I'm fine with them grounding the builds of characters a little more in reality so that it works better in live action.

1999

Idk he beat Kuro really easily

T

Wait petition to have Jack's reaction to ep 1015

TrueCrisp

tbf they nerfed the f out of kuro he could've ran behind luffy and stabbed him anytime

1999

Like you want a bigger actor or you want him to be CGI? If they CGI all the bigger characters their budget is gonna be cooked.

TrueCrisp

Luffy's actor Inaki Godoy has been learning Japanese since they started filming and he's crazy good now he sounds fluent

Mr. John Kagurabachi

Nami’s actor was the only one who was an active one piece fan before the show. She’s watched everything 2 years before being casted. Luffy is trying to watch everything and I think all the other actors just see clips and skim through the manga/anime for their parts.

Qhoa

W

Nami Swannn

Luffy is def the hardest character to portray. Like it’s easier to make the others more realistic, but you have to find the balance between realistic and anime with Luffy or else you lose his charm. At the same time, it can come off as corny. It’s not perfect, but I do think it’s cool to see a more serious portrayal of Luffy,,,like they still managed to capture his silly nature but we also see him genuinely being worried for Zoro’s life and struggling with being a captain !

Nami Swannn

I think my biggest complaint of the LA is in this episode. I felt like they kinda sidelined Sanji since he’s no longer related to the main conflict of the Baratie arc (which became Mihawk + Arlong’s appearance). It’s not necessarily Don Kreig’s character that I care for but the fact that he was the reason Luffy and Sanji defended Baratie together. Without him, there was nobody to string Sanji into the conflict of the arc and him joining the crew just felt less impactful. His moments with them were still nice but not enough for me to be like “ofc he’d wanna join their crew”,,,it was still nice, just the part of the story I felt suffered most. Sanji’s actor is so good too so I would’ve loved him getting more time to shine.

jasminethegreat

for OP anime watchers, what number of episodes is the LA at with the anime so far? because I know that this whole season is about 100 episodes correct me if I'm wrong. and what do you think about pacing so far?

Nami Swannn

SANJI AND USOPP UPSCALE 🗣️💯 will we get this enthusiasm about their characters in the anime as well 🤩

T

I love Inaki and I don't have any complaints about him being Luffy, but one thing I don't like about their portrayal of Luffy is how they consciously made him a "good" pirate. Like they keep stressing that throughout, but the original Luffy doesn't give two shits about "being the good guy." There's a difference between saving someone because you're a hero and it's the right thing to do versus saving someone because they're your friend, and Luffy should be the latter.

E L

“I was pre-pissed” -mckay 😆😆

1999

The thing with Luffy’s fighting style is that I don’t think it’s ever been done in the history of live action cinema. Usually when they do elastic powers in live action they don’t make the character do any long martial arts sequences of hand to hand combat. For example when Reed Richards uses his elastic powers in the live action fantastic 4 it’s either for mobility or a singular wind up attack. Zoro and Sanji’s fighting is always going to look better than Luffy’s in live action because sword fighting and kicking has already been done well many times in other movies/shows so they don’t have to reinvent the wheel.

Hegataro

Alternate episode title: Sanji Aura Farms Luffy To Safety

Dasha

It’s funny that no matter how many times people see Sanji’s backstory they always be like “no way it was that long”

Seda

season 1 of the live action actually only adapts around 40 episodes of the anime lol but for me personally even tho i like the live action i prefer the anime’s pacing just bc so many things were cut to save time, like some important canon characters or lighthearted moments between the crew

Lorenzo

They point this out later on

Small town ph

Well they changed some stuff... but episode 44 is "End of Arlong Park" I think its better to go with that

Ciara

Omg yes plsss jack I beg

Ciara

Zoros actor was a previous fan actually and is close with Oda which is rly cool and I’m pretty sure all the main cast is caught up I went to at a panel at a convention last year for usopp and namis actor and they were talking about stuff very far into the anime

Shaun V

Zejj - Sanji interactions are so well done this ep. Love the "Quitting is staying here" line

humbleandkindness

Makenyu watched it growing as well I believe (??)

humbleandkindness

I love watching the videos of him meeting Luffy’s VA and Oda Sensei, and seeing his dedication to everything in the process of making the LA

humbleandkindness

I think that’s the reason why we don’t see a whole lot of three sword style from Zoro either, ya know? no one’s done that before

humbleandkindness

It’s confirmed they will be doing Little Garden in the new season btw,, need that pose from Zoro fr fr

Murasaki

Mackenyu is Japanese and grew up watching One Piece he is a big fan and his favourite character is Zoro. He said in the interview he almost rejected the audition invitation because he was filming another movie and they told him not to accept any invitation. But when he heard its Zoro One Piece he immediately accepted.

Nicole

I think it’s because luffy is such an atypical character. He is both very serious and very goofy, has idiotic moments and brilliant emotional intelligence. Luffy is 1000% the hardest to act in a life action - they are trying to make him somewhat realistic for the life action format while also giving him the characteristics that encompass Luffy’s personality. It’s very hard, and Iñaki did his best with the script he is being given. I do believe he will improve - but yeah they did weaken him for the live action. It could be for a bigger journey of “improvement” since people that don’t watch One Piece wouldn’t be as used to a main character who is already VERY strong - they want to make it so that the audience can watch him grow. Different media, and all that? Hm.

wanira 11

Luffy's ecstatic scream when Sanji wants to join the crew lmao

Yusuf Riyandi

I'm really sorry geks 🙏 out of discussion, since Alice in Borderland Season 3 has been released, I was wondering if you would be interested in watching it soon?

wanira 11

I think it's mostly budget reasons, luckily in the last fight of the season they go all out

Lil Mimi

I feel like in the live action they show less of it

humbleandkindness

I suspect that may be what’s next after they finish this series up

Nicole

It may be! Hopefully for the second season, since the budget is bigger, we’ll get better Luffy fights as well!

draeonic 🪼

I'm not sure whether I love or hate that Sanji took off his shirt to dive in but not his shoes. But I have strong feelings about it. Let me rewatch the scene a couple more times to see if I can decide.

Keanu

Yeah little garden can't be skipped, that is all I will say

Ariies

Im at around ep 600 on the anime rn. I loved the Netflix adaptation so much that it made me look past the number of episodes the anime had and I finally started watching it. This was my first experience with the OP story. I knew nothing and nothing was spoiled. I cried on eps 5 6 with the Sanji and Zeff backstory and their final goodbye. So much love was poured into the show. All the cast members are OP fans as well as the staff. There are tons of small references and easter eggs for the anime/manga fans that would go over first time watchers head. I think the show was primarily made for people that have never seen OP before with the hope of making them watch/read the anime/manga. And it worked. It worked for me personally and many of my firends. There are also other react channels that started watching the anime after trully loving the live action. I understand that for some purists it might not meet the standards of the anime, but for first time watchers its a perfect stepping stone to start the anime.

Luffers

They were stranded in the Manga for 85 days too. One Piece is just like that sometimes. I heard the anime is only 47 days.

jrnoodles

Thanks! I don't like how the fishmen look in the live action, but to be fair, I don't know how they could've made them look any better.

Luffers

Garp's dog hat lol. It's like he's giving this tough speech while wearing cat ears

Daniella

That visceral reaction to Sanji's body was so funny 😂

Adri

anyone know if they are reacting to AIB season 3 i know it wasn’t their fav show but just curious

relyct

I actually really like both Luffy’s and Arlong’s voices. It's nice to see some POC rep. Luffy’s actor talks like that irl (his Luffy voice is a bit lighter), but the pronunciation’s the same since he’s got a Mexican/Spanish accent. The way he says “Nami” is actually closer to the Japanese than the English version, which is a nice touch. When I first heard live-action Arlong, he honestly sounded like a brother, and it felt really fitting. The actor used a similar style in his last Netflix show "Eric", but here he throws in more of a growl, like he's grinding his teeth. I also love that the show isn’t just filled with British, American and Irish accents. It highlights the diversity of the OP world through the actors’ voices.

Papermaker

Sooooo when you guys watching bleach :D

relyct

Tbf she show doesn't even know if it will ever reach EL lol I don't think they thought this far

relyct

Yes, I felt the same way during my first watch. Though I understand why they sidelined him for the plot. By the end of S1 I wanted more time with Sanji (and Usopp) which is crazy. Especially for S2 I hope for some new cool moments of Sanji though.

relyct

Oh yea definitely. I think in a previous episode, somebody also pointed out about Luffy asking everyone what their dream is, which also seems kinda OOC. In the Anime/Manga all these things come out more natural, and the viewer gets to build his own opinion on who Luffy is and if he's good. Here they kinda always tell us. Funny enough I think this is similar to the OP prototype from Oda, where Luffy called himself a peacemaker? pirate, which basically meant that he was a good pirate, while there were also bad ones out there.

Luffers

Goooood point

Luffers

Don't forget Oda was intimately involved too. That's the secret sauce. It should be hand-in-glove relationships betweem creator and adapter. When they get away from that it falls apart. Looking at you Game of Thrones

draeonic 🪼

Hmmm kinda disagree. I do think they leaned to hard on the "you're a good" guy judgments from LA Luffy, but anime Luffy does go there occasionally (although i think it's more bad guy/not bad guy, as with Miss Allsunday). As for his own behavior, he doesn't care about the moral label but he saves friends, enemies and strangers alike, and if he has to explain why it's because he "felt like it." It's definitely not restricted to only his friends, however fast he makes them. His behavior is guided by a moral compass, even if he doesn't verbalize it half as much in the anime.

Luffers

They can play around with perspective a little bit, like they did in Lord of the Rings with hobbits. But you aren't going to see 8+ feet tall people unless it's all CGI. Outside of a Pixar movie or something, real humans and CGI don't mix.

Luffers

Agreed. Go nuts. People shouldn't use reactions as a 1st watch anyways IMO

John D. Acebes

Coby: "[Luffy] is a pirate" Jack: "No he's just free" I think you're forgetting the line about being King of the Pirates

Raztarl

Cannon, you're allowed to say anything you like. It won't spoil for people because people shouldn't be using your reactions to watch the show for the first time. But if you feel like you said too much of a spoiler, maybe just add a spoiler warning caption a few seconds before.

T

Oh I didn't mean Luffy ONLY saves his friends (it was just an example of his intentions) and I definitely didn't mean he doesn't have a moral compass. My point was that Luffy isn't your typical hero character. MINOR SPOILER He even says himself "I'm a pirate, I don't want to be a hero. If there's meat I don't want to share it with other people. I want all the meat." He knows what pirates are, and he knows that they are criminals in the op world. Personally I think this is what really sets Luffy apart from other shonen MCs, which is why I didn't really like how they made LA Luffy introduce himself as a good pirate. All in all I agree with what you said

Luffers

Something tells me it will be soon. Very soon.

Jsb011

Yeah the show is first for me. I like reactions to it without the foreknowledge.

JBVI

I dont remember Luffy introducing himself as a good pirate in the LA. Correct me if Im wrong. Also, in the anime, Luffy is a hero to many people and he is portrayed as such, even though he doesnt want others to think so and he doesnt care about it. When you save whole islands and kingdoms, you are a hero in the eyes of the people. Luffy IS a good guy. You can be a good guy and not trying to be a hero, and still be hero. That is Luffy.

I’m Maya

Zorro actor is Japanese

T

I don't think you fully understood my point. I'm not denying that Luffy is a good person. We all know he has a kind nature (even 🟣 says that in 💃) but the difference is Luffy doesn't care about that and doesn't deliberately "try" to do the right deeds. Luffy is all about freedom and chasing dreams, and in that process he helps and saves people. But at the same time he doesn't hesitate to create a mess to get what he wants. Obviously Luffy is a hero to the people who he saved, but he isn't to everyone. But the LA vocalizes being a good pirate throughout the show - Shanks tells young Luffy he needs to be a good person, and Luffy tells I think Coby or Nami that not all pirates are bad and that he's a different kind of pirate. In the original, Luffy's goodness is more subtlely shown through his actions and results, and he would never admit that he's a hero. He wants to be a pirate, not an evil-vanquishing-savior. But that still means he can be good.

wanira 11

I had the same experience! :)

Dasha

carter is already hyped af every time sanji does something other than simping😁 hope FMI won’t change that

Sasha Ruple

Sad that Sanji completely misses Zoro's fight, that was a cool character moment in the original. The other Sanji stuff was pretty well done though considering the plot changes

Jack

Hey, same thing right

Jack

It’s already up

Safaricat

jack....1015..... oh you sweet summer child....

Nami Swannn

Lol ya i meant it mostly in regards to Usopp

Safaricat

i get where you guys are coming from that he's trying to hard to be luffy but lemme just say..... that guy is luffy..... not just cause he was cast.... his entire personality. Like his line delivery is a bit awkward but he captures the spirit and feeling of luffy both on and off camera so i can see why he was chosen.

Mal

McKay you should never drink (ocean) salt water, especially not if you're desperate!! It will dehydrate you faster and you will die more quickly

cade-carter

i get what they did with don krieg, but with how they changed the kuro fight, and removing don krieg, luffy hasnt had any moments to truly show off

Kuro

to be fair, they don't have much airtime to really put everything in. They're trying to practically squeeze 50 ish episodes into 8. Some stuff had to be cut out.

wadad sk

Playing luffy is probably the hardest role because luffy is a very lovable, the most goofy and stupidest mc I know in all of anime, who can also be serious and emotional when he needs to be. It's hard to embody that cartoony, lovable side he has in live action with humans. He's also a character if he fails to be silly, fans will be mad, if he fails to be serious fans will be mad, its really hard unlike zoro who also has his silly moments but he isn't mainly known for that, it's mostly for being a badass with swords. Ussop is annoying in the anime so fans appreciated this toned down Ussop in the live action, same with Sanji. Nami though in my opinion, is a completely different character and they did change her but Nami isn't a character who people would rage over if they totally changed, Luffy is. Sooo, despite all this, live action luffy is very off but the actor tried his best cuz I genuinely don't think luffy is a character a human can play perfectly.

Flubbedsquid

I believe red-leg is the intended translaiton, but it's up in the air. The japanese word "ashi" can mean either foot or leg. Leg just sounds better to me but it might be a matter of which you hear first.

Ana

It’s also his first role too right?

Sasha (Yare Yare Daze)

I think Sanji is by far the best Straw Hat in the live action. The others do a great job also but I think they made Zoro's character just farm aura which I definitely don't like. I think Luffy is the worst in the live action but yeah I agree it's so hard to make him like the anime Luffy and I think it's bit of a mistake to make him so anime like.

Sasha (Yare Yare Daze)

But Cannon likes exactly that some people watch something for the first time with them. I know this will be the worst thing on the whole channel to watch for the first time with them since it's so easy to spoil people. But when you say "people shouldn't be using your reactions to watch the show for the first time" that is just completely wrong. I have seen lots of stuff for the first time here on this channel.

Sasha (Yare Yare Daze)

When Naruto ends. I won't promise it though since I am not the president of Studio Gek

Sasha (Yare Yare Daze)

I don't know if it was a ragebait from Cannon whrn he said "I thought it was three days"😅

Sasha (Yare Yare Daze)

Zeff is the only one who I think is literally 10/10 cast although some others are also brilliant

Nicole

You could say it’s hist first big role, but not his first first. He’s played in other shows.

Sasha (Yare Yare Daze)

What change. Oh maybe you mean how much he is involved in the live action?

Raztarl

You can do anything you like. No qualms. But he should also be able to speak freely about the show and people should be okay with the risk of being spoiled if this is their first time watching on here. I say "people shouldn't use their reactions to watch the show for the first time" so they can speak more freely. But also because most people will just do that and then not go to the platform where they can actually watch the show. If you like a show, you should support it by watching it on its original platform to help it's chances for renewing for more seasons. You can think I'm wrong about this, but it's definitely not "completely" wrong.

Miguel

I remember them saying in an interview that only Nami and Zoro's actors were OP fans, the other three only started watching/reading after being casted

Daniella

Real girly 🤭

draeonic 🪼

He doesn't introduce himself as a good pirate but he also tells Coby, who only knows him and Alvida, "there are good pirates and bad pirates". It's not a far jump.

draeonic 🪼

Ah, then I misunderstood the saving friends thing. But I don't think not caring to be labelled 'good' is that rare? Most shonen MC's I can think of are just doing their thing, which tends to coincidentally align with what we consider 'good'. (Green Hero and Genocide Titan being clear outliers.)

saida

mckay's reaction to shirtless sanji was so funny.

DietCocaine

ngl i don’t really like the actor for luffy I feel like he’s too serious and doesn’t really have the happy go lucky attitude of luffy in the anime. Same with zoro a little bit but he got better in the later episodes

Wickerx Nanana

Yeah I don't like Inaki at all either, nobody can replicate luffy, it's just impossible

humbleandkindness

Perhaps a hot take, but I like LA Luffy. my shayla

Myroom19

Yeah me too…

Adeeb Alothman

Are they going to upload episode 7 today ?

studiogek

Episode 7 will probably be out tomorrow, we had to film stranger things and other stuff today and weren’t able to fit it in. Sorry, thank you for being awesome! We love you guys

Rhettoric

No worries Geks! I’m so excited for your reactions to the live action’s interpretation of Arlong Park! There are some great scenes coming up!

Szonin

The Sanji and Zeff backstory was the most manga accurate stuff from the live action I think.

rac coun

"Quitting is staying here" is the best line of the Live Action. Also very well delivered by Zeff's actor.

Two Cylinder

I think this is like Inaki’s (Luffys actor) first role and hes just not an amazing actor yet and hopefully improves in s2. BUT seeing him on social media- hes literally Luffy irl. I love him and the whole cast so much and dont think they couldve found a better Luffy. I also really want Inaki to play Beast Boy in the DCU

Two Cylinder

Also Luffy is soo hard to translate to live action but unlike the other characters i feel like you really cant change Luffy AT ALL

Dasha

If you’d ever seen Sanji’s official topless illustrations you would know the live-action Sanji is pretty damn lore-accurate
