You guys checking this out was legit something I was wishing for once the second season date got announced. This is a really great show and it'll make for a tremendous ride for you all. It has some really well done action moments sprinkled throughout, but the storytelling, characters, and genuine emotional core make for something truly special. One thing that never really gets explained is that Heiter, the priest, is a Cleric so he can use holy magic which I'm assuming kept him alive for a bit longer. Also I think Dwarves live about 300 ish years here.

Yeah Jack is right I think it's a pretty common opinion that the show starts a bit slow but just to add some context for the Geks the first four episodes of Frieren were released at the same time. Some reactors watched them all at once some don't but if the show feels a bit slow at the start that could be one reason why. Personally I don't mind it being slower at the start especially with fantasy media like Frieren I love the early worldbuilding and getting to know the characters

since it's another anime full of german names, that somewhat relates to the cahracters personality, I will translate them : Ewig (the sage) = (for) Ever Flamme (the legendary mage) = Flame Frieren = Freeze(ing)/ (being cold as in freezing) Himmel = Heaven Iron = Eisen Heiter = Cheerful/Serene Fern = (far) Away/ Distant so watching the show as a german speaker is pretty weird in a fun way

Usually i don't hate dubs, but I always watch sub. However, I cannot stand the dub. The dub makes her have this awful cocky attitude like shes a rude teenager. Hopefully interesting detail: The Japanese title "Sousou no Frieren" most literally translates to 'Funeral of Frieren.' I thought I'd share just to give some small context to the show given the episode being somewhat different from what you all had expected. The title, not likely referring to Frieren's actual funeral, can be understood as the funerals occuring in Frieren's lifetime. (Not to imply that we will see many deaths during this story, but maybe, we'll see.) Regarding the English title, "Beyond Journey's End" of course alludes to what comes after their journey to kill the Demon King, which while not the same, can carry similar themes rather nicely. As well, if you want to think of the 'funeral' from the Japanese title to be specifically Himmel's funeral, then they are also both directly referencing events of this first episode. (Although still separated by 50 years, lol.) And you could also go the other way, taking "Beyond Journey's End" to refer more to death in general. Edit: Soft Spoiler in Replies

What I meant by trend is more about the change of pace from what they’ve been watching recently. At the end of the day, it’s still a shounen and has the typical shounen elements involved. So I can kind of agree with you that it’s not completely different per se, but Frieren is definitely a much slower anime that focuses more on the characters rather than an action heavy plot. It’s a lot more introspective rather than focused on the next big battle or challenge. What I’m really trying to say is that I’m hoping they start shifting toward more stories similar to this, more slice of life, more mature, more avant garde (not to say that Frieren is avant garde), or just something a little different yk

Japanese and English grammer differing, so you're essentially looking at 'Funeral of Frieren' vs. 'Frieren of (the) Funeral.' I felt I was already saying a lot, so I more intended 'literal' in this case as basically closest to word for word, and then just describing the meaning of the latter translation without being entirely explicit and then feeling obligated to elaborate on the full wording. Like you guys said, there’s definitely a lot more to Frieren than simply being “uncaring” about her friends’ deaths. To Carter’s point, it’s why she kept emphasizing the “mere 10 years” thing, and her realization at Himmel’s funeral seems like a huge turning point. It’s not that she never cared, but that her perspective as an immortal made it hard to understand the value of their limited time. That moment shows her finally start to grasp what life means when it’s fleeting, and for the first time she begins to have regrets. I think her character is such a cool way of putting into perspective the value of mortality, and how it can take loss for someone like her to realize what she’s been missing.

im sure its been said before but episodes 1-4 were actually released all together as a sorta prelude to the show... thats why the show has 28 episodes in the first season, when i watched i knew nothing of the show and was pleasantly surprised, curious to see how you guys like this show as LOTR fans.

FINALLY! I'm sure you guys have noticed already, but this isn't like a classic shonen, so try and get that out of your head now. There are definitely hype action moments with amazing animation, but the slice of life and character building scenes are what perfect the show and make it such a masterpiece. So keep an open mind and I'm sure you guys will absolutely love it!

This anime really did a good job using the 'the end is the beginning' story telling bcos only few was able to use it effectively. I don't know but this anime, in every episode, really just tugs your heart. Looking forward to the next episodes reactions!

Frieren is a great show man. The characters feel a little cliche to me some times but I appreciate the vibes. The animation is probably my favorite part. The landscaping is so beautifully done, especially when jumping 50 years through Frieren's shoes.
