There are so many easter eggs to so many 80s movies in these four episodes, so I don't think you guys are going to catch them...one being Back to the Future. When she says, "Great scott!" ...and mentions the flux capacitor...she's referencing that movie. That's why all the guys in the van have that reaction when Joyce is asking them about it because they know it's from the movie. Haha

I genuinely despise the writers for how they treat Ted, especially via Nancy. She NEVER onces shows concern for her father's life, only ever mentions their mother and holly when she's worried about her family. Literally every time; I checked while rewatching with the Geks. Just an evil, hateful way they generally write fathers in this show.

Even if you have some lazy couch potato for a dad, nobody would have such utter apathy (seemingly barring on implicit hatred with Nancy) to the degree that you just never give a shit about him. Almost all the dads in this show are garbage, and the one season which really focuses on Hopper being a dad has him as a fat loser.

I had an absent dad who was far from perfect. Ted's mediocrity does not earn that level of hatred. Ted was better than my dad, and I LOVE my dad. Maybe it's realistic if your dad horribly abused you. Not if your dad was just lazy and kind of an NPC.

i kind of get it though because the family dynamic is fucked and he's not emotionally present. ofc, he doesn't deserve to be neglected in turn as a character, but the mix of apathy and shock is understandable. their mother has at least been there for them, so they have a deeper bond. It's realistic in some circumstances. just because you're blood doesn't mean you have to have a specific emotional reaction to that sort of thing.

Exactly!!! and it’s not like we haven’t see her drinking wine in previous seasons cuz I’m pretty sure there’s been at least 1 scene in each season with her holding a glass of wine 😂🍷. It's the 80s, dads were typically distant and often hated by their families. Many felt their only value was providing financially and never tried to connect with their family. just how the Wheeler family was, not writing issues if they truly didn't care abt their father as much as their present mother

They were getting mad because the scene was portraying her getting drunk over protecting her daughter in that current moment. Of course she didnt hear her, but it's still frustrating when the kid is telling their parents things that arent being taken seriously. But she redeemed herself right after their anger, they rescinded lol

They were making the comments before that even happened tho. When she was arguing with Ted. In that moment there was no reason to be hating on Karen just because she’s had a drink. There was nothing going on with holly in that moment. And she was right in her argument with Ted and he was dismissing her concerns.

agree with jack on the 'i kinda despise karen tbh' cuz it really never sat right with me that she was not only ready to cheat on her husband (we all know teds not great but furthermore) but that she was specifically ready to cheat on her husband with a HIGHSCHOOLER who was literally like her daughters age and there was no consequence for that...its giving predatory and gross and i hateddd that storyline sm, esp considering there was no need for it...just another reason i really didnt like season 3 and it seriously soured her character for me. her fight back against the demogorgon was cool though, and its good shes alive for her kids sakes too at least

also gotta heavily disagree with cannons point of 'dustin was selfish and went to the grave' though - dustin went to the grave planning for plenty of time to get back to the crawl im sure, and it totally makes sense he wants to go there and honor his friend before any of their little missions now, especially when theyre talking about how theyre starting to feel closer to vecna suddenly. itd be different mayyybe if hed like passed by the bullies and went about saying or doing something that poked the bear more in that moment, but theres no reason to think the guys are gonna retaliate so heavily at his friends /grave/ right before a crawl - like id expect consequences at school or even on the street running into them maybe, but just lurking and waiting for him to show up at a cemetary at any given point? nah thats crazy work

The only explanation I can give is that in d&d there are different damage types. Some creatures can be immune or resistant to certain damage types. Piercing, Slashing and Bludgeoning are most common types from weapons. It's possible the demo is resistant to piercing / Bludgeoning but not slashing. Hence why the wine bottle and the sword did a lot of damage.
