The era of humans is now

beannie

one of my favorite episodes, can’t wait to watch this

Jimmy

Congrats on your future child Eren D. Andrus!

victoria t

Cannon is hysterical

Seth Aasland

“She’s relatively unskilled for her age.” It would be crazy to see this world during the age of elves. How the standards of magic differed then compared to now

victoria t

The not liking Serie discussion with Carter had me dying

victoria t

The demon king wanted them all annihilated for a reason

jrnoodles

Thanks Geks! Every scene with Himmel has me go 🥹

Freeze

To me, it always felt like Serie respects power and the reason she doesn't like Frieren is, instead of devoting all her time to be powerful, Frieren conceals her mana 24x7 and her favorite spell is a non combat spell. Which also explains why she passes Fern, because Fern is a powerful prodigy whose potential is so high.

Jonesy

dammit drop the next one rn

Ginoxe

The flowers in the garden is actually flowers that are made with magic. And the white flower that Serie looks at symbolizes Flamme. Serie is saying that Flamme's magic were useless but keeping the garden full with flowers made with magic, especially ones that represents Flamme.

This is Daniel

My Saturday evening is complete! Super grateful for the reaction. Sidenote: on the topic of magical development, Serie mentioned human beings progress quickly, due to having a limited lifespans. That sense of urgency can create a desire to achieve things quickly. Contrarily, elves and other humanoids have more time to stop and smell the roses. So the progression may be slower, but more refined (e.g. Frieren's mana control). Either way, I love how the show leaves virtually no plot holes, and every piece of dialogue and character interaction feels purposeful 😎

Yuion

Again so many great details. 2 stood out to me especially. When Fern was asked by Richter if she was Frierens student she didnt answer, showing her trust in her as a teacher had faded. Stark had for answer to her. They had been fighting a lot between the tests so maybe she was questioning her sincerety But when she talked to Serie she proudly declared frieren her master, not serie, showing her trust in frieren had been restored by her repairing the staff. Its the little things that matter most Also Denken was looking through books while talking to Richter. Its just an idea but maybe he was looking for books for richter to read to grow as a mage and maybe even as a person

Jonas Teigen

What is replacing Frieren after u guys finish season 1? Re:Zero 🙏 jojo🙏

I’m Tired

I feel like serie's gripe with frieren lies in the fact that all frieren's done is defeat the demon king in her eyes. when we last saw them together, she told frieren to honne herself and her craft. I think she saw the potential in frieren and didn't want her to waste it. Frieren wasted centuries of her years after flammes death, defeated the demon king in a mere 10 year blip, and went back to small time adventuring. With all the time serie has been alive, like other passionate mages, she's devoted her time to aquiring knowledge, spells, and power. I think she resents that frieren isn't using her one advantage over humans, her time, as she would've imagined.

Cronshaw

Seire gets a bad rap and she is abrasive and acts as kind of an antagonist but she's not malicious. Much like demons, narratively she acts as a foil to Frieren: she's one of the ways Frieren could have ended up if she never met Himmel and the gang. I always think of Seire as a super nerd for magic. It's all she cares about and all she wants to talk about. She wants to find people to pull up to her level and just commiserate about magic with them all day. It's why she is so adversarial with Frieren: she knows Frieren could be that person but Frieren doesn't want to be. She is a really sad character when you think about it, if you watch right at the end she turns away right before she tells Fern that she passes and her face changes from a smile to one of disappointment. She finally found someone she felt she could share her magic with and Fern rejected her.

Tina L

It also proves Flamme right about how Serie can't imagine a world at peace (which Serie agreed with) and how Frerien does belong in an era of peace.

Mitch

We need Jojo🙏🏼🙏🏼

Rois Sidiq

Demon in frieren is pure evil.,Not like other anime that just physically demon but have emotion like a human.even if they learn about human social relations they just cannot/don't understand you will know more in S2.......probably😁

Chayma

I think that cannon will think more positively of Serie in the next seasons, she’s such a complex and interesting character that at some point you just can’t help but like her

Booger

Idk if this is true or not but I saw a comment say frieren’s full amount of mana is equal to serie’s suppressed mana?

Booger

I have a strong bias towards female characters so as long as it’s a girl she’ll automatically be my favorite

Rozzika

The Era of Humans, goated

Peloy

Just think of Serie as the stereotypical disappointed asian parent. She wanted Frieren to be in an Engineering field but Frieren wants to be in Arts since it’s more fun for her.

Junipxr

I hope you guys will come around to Serie more in the next season. Her and Frieren r two sides of the same coin. One treasuring the fleeting connections with humans and the other finding that fleeting connection pointless. I feel like every time Serie makes a statement she contradicts herself with either her words or her actions. I feel like the most obvious examples is her talking down on frieren and flamme for their favorite spell but they’re taking the final part of the exam in a room full of flowers. She says flammes dream for humans is pointless but now she runs the organization. She says she should have never taken in human students , but then immediately ask to take fern in. She remembers every student she takes in, it must be incredibly lonely knowing you’ll live to see the students u raise die

Nanami's Wife

I think there are some misconceptions of Serie’s character/personality due to her having a tsundere personality (dw that was me at first too). Carter really nailed on understanding Serie’s character and seeing thru her demeanor. Serie is fond of all her students, it may not look like it, but it really shows. An example is how Serie shielded Sense from responsibility by blaming Frieren. She also was praising Lernen for how powerful of a mage he has become. She’s just disappointed that Lernen will die soon even though he's at his peak and could get even better. It’s just the lifespan of a human is what saddens Serie. Serie claims to not like humans or Frierens/Flamme favorite spell, yet she conducts the third test in a garden of flowers. Even though Serie said that suppressing mana is an inefficient spell, she most likely was the one who taught mana suppression to Flamme. And if not, she picked up Mana suppression after Flamme died. It’s funny to me that Serie said she was done training humans and then 10 mins later she ask Fern to be her student😭 The only person I think Serie is truly disappointed in is Frieren and that’s because Frieren never did a single thing within 1000 years outside the forest she originally resided in. Frieren had no ambition. She only became active when Himmel sought her out, and then only collected spells for 80-90 years. That's why Frieren knows Serie is not the mage she wants her to be, because Frieren is supposed to be stronger than she currently is. Imagine if you went to an alternate dimension where you met a young Lebron James. You know he could be just as amazing as the Lebron James in our world, but instead of playing basketball, he just wants to garden😭😭😭 I can understand where Serie's frustration comes from😭

Cannon Andrus

I don’t feel like that first detail is true to be honest

Anime is boring.

Man, this is hard. Like, Carter is trying to understand different sides to characters, while others are just making snap judgments. Because some people don't like Serie, they practically ignore her scenes. Like Serie even said, "Humans learning magic, how ridiculous," and everyone went crazy, saying they don't like her. In contrast, in that very episode, she says humans will militarize magic, and that other countries will then militarize/weaponize it. And then Jack over here is like "Serie is jelous of frieren for killing the demon king", and i am like ahh, there was a whole scene talking about how she could kill the demon king but she doesn't want to because she couldn't invision a world at peace and thus she wouldn't want to kill him, and Frieren is a mage of a peaceful era and can imagen killing the demon king. Don't get me wrong, I love watching your guys' reactions; it's just hard for me to watch, because I really like the anime for the way they tell the story. It's very different from 95% of anime currently out there.

beannie

give me jojos pls PLS

Peloy

Then think of her other students as following her wish but not living long enough to finish their Master’s degree lol

fay

so if i’m not wrong, serie’s suppressed mana is equivalent to frieren’s UNsuppressed mana

Nanami's Wife

I had the same assumption. I was wondering if the guys would question abt it during the discussion after seeing Series mana but it is easy to miss

David Debow

That’s pretty much the vibe around here bro 😂… well not entirely But Carter is the goat when it comes to really understanding. The others do too, but just as you said… they don’t like the character. It just surprises me sometimes how fast they hate a character after like 2 frames 😂😂… fun for me tho. They eventually come around.

misa

eeencheresting Serie still refers to old man Lernen as "the boy" in her head, just as she when she reminisces flamme only as a child. she is so harsh though, I felt bad for Lernen there.

Cisvo

LOL

misa

"The era of humans is here." Fern: 🧍‍♀️

Terry C

Serie is a complicated character. Don't judge her by her words, judge her by her actions. She thought it was ridiculous Flamme even asked her to be the head of the human's magic association, yet who is it right now? Serie. She said she merely trained Flamme on a whim and act like she didn't care, yet why does she remember everything about Flamme, from her goals, her personality, to her favorite spell. Even in this episode, she said she shouldn't ever take on anymore human apprentices. Yet she wants Fern. And yes, she is that powerful that Frierens full unleashed mana is about the size of Serie's suppressed mana. They said Serie is the closest thing to the omnipotent Goddess of Creation herself.

Cisvo

It really should be a double drop, guys! 😄 Give your fans what we deserve on a Saturday night! Didn’t you ever wish your favorite show had a longer episode? Please don’t do that to us — make it a double drop! 😔😄

GBuckets

I know they're just doing this for cinema, but if Serie's intuition is always right, why don't she just pass or fail mages instead of putting them in these dangerous tests. She can pick potential first class mages instead of having a bunch of them get killed. From what the show says, mages are pretty rare in this day and age. Also, the OP bottled golems was created by Lernen, the old guy

GBuckets

Also I think all elves are just antisocial. If you're pretty much immortal, things won't really excite you like humans do. Humans need to live fast, Elves don't, so for them they don't really have much emotions

GBuckets

Bro this makes a lot of sense actually. Serie wants to learn every magical knowledge in the world and be as powerful as possible, Freiren just wanna F around

misa
>>195920163

I think she still needs to see them in action to have something to even intuit. Maybe she finds it entertaining? Like how she liked when Frieren broke her barrier she says this is why she can't give up on magic, she likes to be surprised.

BH

Comments going crazy

alex anderson

I think it’s just very easy for people to bash the first opinions that you guys say about a character, since this is obviously your first time reacting to each episode, where as I would imagine that for a lot of people this is their 2nd, 3rd, 4th, whatever time watching this episode. This makes it very easy to be like “how come you didn’t see the dialogue this way” when I would imagine most people that watched this show, and do think about it in that way, liked the show enough to watch certain episodes multiple times, which gave them that extra insight in the first place (which I say because I’m not sure how often you guys go back and watch episodes or scenes to get a better understanding of a show/plot/characters). I would say that is the definition of hindsight bias. I’m not gonna act like I’ve never been party to that kind of thinking, but I try to be open minded with opinions, especially when I feel like I care more about a show, or I am watching something in a different way vs somebody else.

Nanami's Wife

I see where you’re coming from with that. I viewed it as more of a personality thing and I believe that elves are not completely emotionless just based on our interactions with elves in the show. Serie has a tsundere personality and is very stern and shows happiness when she meets a prodigy (ex: Fern). Frieren has a more introvert/nonchalant personality and thru her time with spent with humans, you see her being more expressive. Even if it’s just as little as a smile or patting on the head. In the first episode we see Frieren cry. Kraft seemed the opposite of antisocial from first interaction 😭

KJ Cleverly

New passion fruit monster goes so hard

Jasiu Kociński

When Flamme tought frieren she said to supress it to 10% and the amount of mana shown didn't change in 1000 years so it's we can safly asume you can chose how much you show. Therefore we can't judge Serie's mana pool. It's for sure more than Frieren's since Serie is from Mythical era so she can be 2/3 times Frieren age.

Brooke C

Serie our Tsundere gramma 😂

DietCocaine

I think she was just mad and didn’t want to answer tbh don’t think it’s that deep at all

Mr. John Kagurabachi

kringlekrisp

Also it was mentioned at the start of the second test, the escape golems were created by lernen so he is himmy

hhh

We have seen people sending child to war in wirbel's flashback

Eric Quan

Hate her voice? Its Killua >.<

Freja Holmberg

Himmel really loved Frieren, and it so beautiful and natural portrayed.

Emmanuel

Jack pointing at the viewers and asking us why we hate Serie's voice is the funniest thing

Sorcerer

Make sure not to skip the ED in the finale — it shows images where all the characters are by the end❗❗❗

Jmann

Lernen is the one that created the Golem bottles from the second test!

Tay

It was pose to be brig😭💔

Half_-Face

That first class mage Lernen is the one who created those escape Golems they used during the second test btw

JustADad 🟣⚫️

She was only unimpressed because she thought he would be the first human mage to recognize her fluctuations but wasn’t. Thus in her eyes, he was a disappointment, that and that he is at his peak and could grow more. However being a human he will die soon. This also goes to show her intuition isn’t 100% all the time. Layered stuff

Junipxr

I didn’t say you hated her, I just hope you come around and enjoy her more once we learn more about her not think of her as a “bitch”

JustADad 🟣⚫️

The accuracy in this breakdown is staggering. Obviously it’s more nuanced but in a nutshell that basically summarizes it.

JustADad 🟣⚫️

Yes it’s true. Also depending on how much Serie is suppressing it could be 10x as large un-suppressed. That is if we are assuming she goes by the same teachings that Flamme did and Frieren does now

JustADad 🟣⚫️

The old saying “it’s lonely at the top” really goes with her.

JustADad 🟣⚫️

Nah let’s keep the same high fantasy and chill vibe and do “Delicious in Dungeon” or Dungeon Meshi for the OG name.

Aaaaaa

I wish they double dropped!!

Hector

For the love of the game

sil 🧸ྀི

frieren loves fern so much im so emotional

TRILLHO

true but also you cant trust someone that always does the opposite of what they say

charlie

Asking for Apothecary Diaries again you guys will love it!

Lemonsqueeze

Serie is a good case of "Im gonna deny it, even though i know it's true".

Half_-Face

Wild dialogue you guys may have missed as Serie was sharing how disappointed she was in the first class mage Lernen: "You achieved this level, and yet you don’t have much longer to live. I doubt you’ll ever get the chance to fight Frieren, even if it’s a fight you could win" That guy is HIM 🥶

TheSauceGuy

On those reaction tests, I can't seem to get better than 200-215 ms lol. Idk if it's my laptop, the fact I'm using a touch pad and not a mouse, or what... It feels like I'm reacting instantly lol. Maybe I just can't lock in.

McKay Carter

Yeah the hardest part is we watch so many shows at the same time, we try to go back and rewatch stuff but it’s hard with so much going on, this will be one of those that I try to deep dive in my off time

Half_-Face

My bad if I’m being annoying. I make comments like these if I feel like you guys might’ve talked/glossed over dialogue you’d otherwise find interesting

imgd

your screen and input method does impact results a lot, you could easily be adding anywhere from 10ms to 100ms

strife

mckay we heard what you said about ubel ...

Joseph Eckert

If you go back to episode 2 when Frieren does the field of flowers in the flashback you can see that while Eisen and Heiter are amazed by the spell and start running around, Himmel just does a little reflective smile. Makes so much sense rewatching it that he reacts that way because it is triggering that memory.

MilkyCider

They definitely will lovee The Apothecary Diaries omg

LuvStarburst

Man Cannon really does not like Ubel when so many people love the way she is and how she views magic. I like how you guys noticed Serie's suppressed mana has the same output as Frierens mana when it's unleashed.

hellios6

I kinda get where he is coming from though. She is extremely manipulative and self-serving. Even though she is a cool character.

bokkun

im commenting before watching so im sorry if it's answered later in the vid but i hope you guys will watch the s2 trailer after the last ep!!

LuvStarburst

I don't think she's manipulative at all, she just tries to understand them to be able to use their magic.

Vallll

S2 trailer and chainsaw man movie next pls. I’ve been replaying the OST since I watched the movie.

christopher

Ubel is hot goth girl thats why people like her its not hard to understand

Fgts Editing

CSM Movie on 9th of December please watch it!!

Luke Fox

I'm with cannon I cannot stand Ubel. I do like Serie though.

McKay Carter

Well your name is Clarification Guy so that’s fair

yio

I agree with Cannon, I really don't care for Ubel

Allen

Serie started by saying the regular third test would kill most of the test takers so she stepped in so there would be no needless death for those who got carried

Night Sterling

Also wirbel did say that apart from fighting demons he does get sent to fight in human wars and in his flashback the enemies were sending women and children to fight

rayman

yall didn’t react much to that line, especially since it comes after we finally see Frieren unleash her combat power. being told Lernen could prob beat her is just an unreal thing for anyone to say. he really must be HIM in combat

Nanami's Wife

"For the first time in my life, I thought magic was beautiful" he said, keeping his eyes fixed on Frieren, not even once glancing at the flowers...UGHH MY HEARTT So Frieren was the reason Himmel became a connoisseur of flowers in his adult life. Everything is coming full circle. I need that Frieren and Himmel love fr I also gotta praise my girl Fern. This episode basically confirms that Fern has Flamme’s level of potential of a once in a thousand years talent. Serie sees the value in Fern and considers her to be worthy. Currently Fern as a young mage is more of a prodigy than Lernen (who was the first-first mage) or any other human we've met so far. So crazy! I can’t wait to see how much of a problem she becomes later on

alex anderson

Yeah I get it. I’ve never been the kind of guy to watch 6+ shows at one time. Usually at most like 4. And it’s the holidays so everyone’s got something or a lot of things that need to get done over the next month. I enjoy the reactions either way.

Adri

I’ve seen chainsaw man comes out on streaming December 9th !!! Can’t wait for there reaction

Nash
>>195961387

Everytime I see a comment about Himmel and Frieren I just wanna cry 😖

Nanami's Wife

We're all crying in the club rn🤧🤧

Oromis

Serie is a perfect example of someone who says one thing while thinking/feeling something else. She denied Flammes request to take over the training of humanities mages, but what is she currently doing? She is the leader of the continents mage organization and training first class mages. She mocks Frieren and Flamme for liking a spell that creates a field of flowers, while standing in a field of flowers almost identical to the one Flamme once made. She says she dislikes Frieren but the moment Frieren broke the barrier to greet her she looked happier than we've probably ever seen her. She keeps saying it's a waste of time to take human students, yet she keeps taking on more and more. She says she dislikes Flamme's dream of a world where everyone can use magic, but she still trained Flamme and helped her realize that dream. Elves and other longlived creatures trying to remain emotionally distant from the more short-lived races is a classic fantasy trope(i.e. Elrond telling Arwen to leave Aragorn), and imo it makes a lot of sense. It must be incredibly painful getting close to people, knowing that they will be dead in what feels like a few weeks or months to you, over and over again.

Oromis

About humans being evil: do you guys not remember Wirbel's backstory where he had to slaughter an army of captured child/women soldiers sent by another northern kingdom to attack his? His signature magic is a spell to incapacitate people without killing them because he regrets having no other option than killing his opponents at times. He says himself he has never failed to kill anyone when necessary, yet he always wishes it won't be necessary so he prefers to bind people. Humanity in this world definitely has an extremely dark side too, it's just not really the focus of the story.

Hafsa

imo serie has like...the pureblood ideology from harry potter lol she wants magic to be 'exclusive' to the best of the best and she wants those select mages to reach the heights of their capabilities alternatively, frieren takes on flamme's ideology of magic being something precious and mundane and accessible to everyone which is why serie's mad at frieren cuz she thinks frieren can be even more badass than she is rn😂 but i don't think we should take whatever serie says at face value she says smth and then does smth entirely contradictory to that

cade-carter

well fern is just in an interesting place of starting young, having a talent for mana control and getting a top 5 teacher. Like frieren says, fern has been stepped in magic her whole life, she doesnt know any other way

Oromis

Btw if anyone else likes stories about elves dealing with getting close to shortlived races, "Maquia: when the promised flower blooms" is an amazing anime movie all about this theme.

cade-carter

She is a hypocrite in the best and worst ways. She is the frieren who never got close to anyone.

Lil Mimi

Never seen Cannon so happy lol w goat

Oromis

Tbh I don't think she has always been like that and never got close to humans or other races. I think she became that way through experience. Serie is much older than Frieren, and I think she probably went through a lot of the things Frieren is going through which is why it's also hard for her to interact with Frieren. It's almost like when a parent recognizes their own (perceived) shortcomings in their child while also realizing nothing they can say will change the mind of a young person and that they will have to experience it for themselves, all the while being reminded about a time when they were also more like that(i.e. Tsuchikage from Naruto being reminded of where he came from when Gaara asks "when did all of you forsake yourselves?"). Like just this episode she talks about what a waste of time it is to learn to surpress mana as well as Frieren does, and then it's revealed she is even better at it with Lernen never having realize she surpresses it and Fern seemingly being the first human to ever spot it. That must mean she has spent even more time than Frieren on this. Serie to me just seems really weary and jaded because of her long live. She always talks very pessimistic about the future, saying things are pointless, but deep inside I think she still hopes for things to be better, her experiences have just thought her otherwise. Like Flamme said, Serie can't imagine herself living in a peaceful era.

Will you guys be able to continue the summer animes that you dropped now

7thdilemma

Listening to your guys' after discussion made me surprisingly happy... ...and I think I feel that way just because I don't often get to see people giving the same regard for the nature of Fern and Serie's connection through the relationships of Serie, Flamme, and Frieren that you guys appear to. And funny enough, that might be because the show is surprisingly subtle with how it presents the way these characters interact. To this point we've only had small moments within episodes which already capture your attention on their own, and only now are they really brought into focus. Anyway, I'm happy you guys enjoy this show as much as you do.

april 🍏

Flamme's favourite spell continuing to haunt the narrative 🌸

Green Buff

I feel like Fern is going to be to Frieren as Flamme was to Serie

Durarara

If ya breakdown the ending its a sad story. Ending 2.

Dakota

In regards to Carter's words on humans starting conflict in this universe or whatever, I think besides the bandits that tried attacking Ubel, the only thing that has been mentioned is the battles that Wirbel mentioned being a part of when the opposite side tried sending out kids to do the fighting in hopes that Wirbel's force wouldn't kill them because they were kids. We don't really know anything about that war, or whatever it was, when that occurred though.

7thdilemma

The build up to Fern witnessing Serie's mana for the first time goes underappreciated by so many people. And the way Serie speaks to Fern just fits so perfectly with what we know about her. Easily one of my favorite scenes.

Zai Yuka

Ubel IS a baddie

Marcus

how is himmel so strong....how is himmel so strong...etc. etc. haha man i feel for you

Marcus

well we were told they used child soldiers against each other in the north by wirbel, denken is an imperial mage known for killing his political opponents, übel literally just slice in dice in this, so i think they showed a bit of the dark side of hummanity so far.

hellios6

She is 100% manipulative. How can anyone not see that lmao... She even outright admits it at some point. She is not showing sincere interest, she is literally manipulating others into liking her and showing her their true feelings, so she can learn their abilities. She fooled you as well.

LuvStarburst

She's honest about what she's doing it's not manipulative. To be manipulated is to not know.

Grae

Hello Geks, I know I said the Chainsaw Man movie was coming out on the 9th, but that was in mine and Japanese standard time. So I'm here to inform you that the Chainsaw Man movie is available now on amazon!!

I'm very proud that Cannon and McKay clocked that the head pat made no sense with the direction of how the hair moved. That bugged me too haha

I think Serie is definitely arrogant, but she was right to fail those others. I do think Frieren should have passed being that she helped her team come up with a plan for the first test, and also helped a lot in the second test and trained Fern well. Excited for season 2 and to watch it alongside you guys!

After the last episode please do SEASON 2 TRAILER! I can't wait for S2!!!!

The scene with himmel and the flower is so peak. He says "It's the first time I thought magic was beautiful" but he's not even looking at the flowers, just staring up at frieren the whole time. One of the best shows ever in terms of rewatch value. So good
