It’s subjective and everyone is gonna feel different but I feel like the show has completely lost that amazing supernatural indie vibe it had early on when it was just about a party of misfits and outcasts trying to find their best friend and unravel the mystery in this small town, to now where it’s this marvel sized battle with an inter dimensional being and we no longer focus on this beautiful character driven story but instead this world ending event

yeah like i was shocked when i went to twitter and found out like imagine having to clarify in an interview that one of the most beautiful scene was a break up, u just ruined it and it just shows how terrible the writing is most of the general audience don’t know, they should’ve said they’re taking a break it would’ve made much more sense or if they broke up during the 18 months and then this scene was their closure it would’ve been also better anything would’ve been better than them dating for idk how long and then suddenly breaking up when they’re abt to die like why the hell are they breaking up because they need to see what they want and that its sometimes suffocating like bitch ur literally dying TOGETHER right now there is no future to see what u want breaking up should’ve been the last thing it makes no sense

The vibes were definitely different for these 3 episodes. Maybe the last episode will make up for that vibe shift. I have to rewatch it before I decide if I like it or not lol. I didn’t have expectations going into this part of the volume I just didn’t want anyone to die. So I think once all the episodes are out, rewatching the season as a whole might feel better. Idk 😩

Honestly that Nancy and Johnathan scene was done so well, the best scene from volume 2 for me. Really give me goosebumps, I actually shed a tear watching those two. So sad it was a breakup scene but I’m glad Nancy chose herself in sense and it had nothing to do with Steve. Her and Steve wouldn’t make sense. That scene makes me feel either Nancy or Johnathan will die in the finale. Though I’m not satisfied with volume two storyline I’m not going to shit on it, we still have a whole 2 hour finale left before I give my final thoughts. I have faith in the duffers brothers on how they will wrap up this season.

Here is the thing, they have A LOT to wrap up and make worth while in a payoff and I just don’t think they can do it based on what I’ve seen. Stuff just doesn’t make sense, plot armor is on full defense 100x over, I feel like they are giving random shine and just bad scenes to characters that nobody cares about. On top the that like one of them said, the script is so damn awful so far.

yea my personal hot take is that the show has been like this from season 2 onwards. Theres too many speeches. Too many fake outs making us think someone is gonna die. Too many cheesy moments. Like you said, too many moments where something convenient happens. The entire plot is copy/pasted each season and they just change up a few details. If i have to sit through the power of friendship prevailing another 30 times in the last episode i might just lose it. I think the show is a good watch and has some cool moments but its seriously super brain off/2nd monitor content despite it trying to display itself as crazy with insane plot twists and such.

Episodes 5&6 were great I really liked them. Imo this season is good I don’t understand a lot of the hate I’m seeing online. That being said there is one mistake that was made and that was the way they released this season it thru the flow off. If they’re gonna release it in parts they should have done it like they did in season 4. It should have been Ep1-6 then 7 then 8. Escape from Camazotz would have been a great way to end the first volume

I think this is why season 4 was so good, it felt like they went back to the strengths of season 1 and no one knew what was going on the whole time. Seasons 2,3 and now 5 feel a bit like a parody at times.

noah (will's actor), sadie (max's actor) and jamie (henry's actor) are literally CARRYING season 5 atp and even their pretty exceptional acting can't save this dumpster fire of a volume due to HORRIBLE writing and pacing smh especially that will controlling vecna scene? took me back to the greatness of s1-2 and some of the best/most intense parts of s4! noah's acting was PHENOMENAL

It's definitely not my favorite season. I don't hate it, but it's no where near season 1, 2, and 4 for me. I don't love the constant main character plot armor. This obviously isn't a show that wants to kill off mains (which is fine btw, killing characters doesn't always make a show better) but make them surviving more realistic. If bullets can't take down a demodog, Lucas kicking in the face surely wouldn't lol. It just lowers the stakes and suspense because you know nothing bad will happen.

I binged watched the entire show so I could be caught up, and I love everything about this season. It makes such a difference to experience all of these episodes directly instead of waiting and waiting and waiting. The hate the season is getting is because of a particular scene that have brought out the worst in groypers. I've never hated social media more than I do now.

Before going to the episode that shall not be named… I need to give credit where credit is due. That Jonathan and Nancy scene was so good. I know a lot of people didn’t read it as a breakup and were disappointed, but I did interpret it that way when I watched it, or at least as a pause, a necessary space, exactly like Nancy says she needs in order to understand what both of them want. I really loved how that moment was handled, and the idea behind it. Shared trauma can’t be the only thing holding two people together. At the same time, I do believe Jonathan and Nancy have more connecting them than just trauma, which is why I think this scene would have worked better if it had happened earlier in the season. Then, maybe later, something else could have helped them rediscover and remember that deeper bond, eventually leading them back to each other. It’s a shame their arcs at the beginning of the season were reduced to the "love triangle", when there was so much potential to explore them in more meaningful ways. Also, the level of acting Natalia and Charlie delivered here was exceptional. It honestly made me sad all over again that Charlie, in particular, hasn’t been given more material to work with since season one and has been sidelined for so long :( I can still see a possibility of them finding their way back to each other (or at least being open about that idea in the epilogue) but with how weird the writing has been this season, I genuinely don’t know what to expect. On another note, I loved that we finally got to explore a more emotional side of Dustin this season. I really enjoyed the shift in his dynamic with Steve. I didn’t love what was happening between them, but at least it led to a real payoff tied to character growth. I love Dustin, but he’s never had much emotionally to overcome (maybe a little in season two, but still minimal compared to other characters) so it was refreshing to see him grow. And I really appreciated that an action (Eddie’s death) had a lasting consequence on a character, since this season has been missing some of that weight. Also… Steve was lowkey spitting about Eddie 👀

The only good scenes so far in this volume were the " run " scene, and the Dustin/steve scene, and the Nancy/Johnathan scene, although that had some randomness happen in it as will and the unproposal part was a bit weird. I agree with Carter in saying that this is probably my second least fav season - I didn't really mind these 2 episodes (haven't watched the 7th yet) but there were definitely moments that bring it down a fair bit (particularly the whole laundry room thing, and Max and Holly I understand to an extent but they were def draggin it). Also to Cannon's point about them moving on from the amount of death so quick, I feel like Stranger Things has kinda always done that tbh, like even in season one when they were just little middle schoolers they often seemed to just be up and onto the next in a way that didn't really address a child seeing so much death and gore p.s. 51:53 idk if ive ever seen cannon so badly jumpscared or not, but that was amazing LMAO

yeah these two episodes suffer a lot from the pacing, it nearly feels like game of thrones s8. hopper and eleven's dialogue has been so sidelined. that scene where hopper basically says to kali 'bitchin right like that episode in season 2 where you said that and it stuck wow what a wacky episode that was right", also dr. kay is a very one dimensional villain and very unmemorable. the addition of holly as a main character in the final season take so much screen time away from the characters they've been building up for a decade, and she's not bad i just don't really care about her character compared to anyone else in the show. I agree that the emotional beats were the best parts of these episodes bc we got to slow down and sit with the characters feelings. the steve dustin scenes were v well done imo but these are the only characters besides will and robin a bit, that have had any satisfying story bits in season 5. everyone else is just a pawn in the big overarching plot its not about the characters at all its all about the big picture event. the show still looks decent for the most part (but also suffers in the same way game of thrones did by looking way too polished for the story being told). despite all of that Id say the show is still keeping my attention and i still think its worth watching i just feel like they are making a sprint to the finish line and not doing the characters justice. feels like we are watching a long form blockbuster movie, and if thats what it was it has been executed very well but i feel it was always more than spectacle and shock value. also by biggest pet peeve is taht evey problem is being solved by a deus ex machina that isnt even creative, except for the one with karen but even that was a stretch. like the floor just stops melting, sick that was lucky. i feel like killing off johnathan nancy would have been an excellent choice. johnathan's character has been stagnating anyway, we got the conclusion for the love triangle and both the byers and wheelers would be affected after the fact in a great way for the story imo. they aren't taking risks with the writing and they also aren't making the obvious fan service beats satisfying enough. but to be fair this was only two episodes in to vol 2, but after vol 1 i was way more optimistic for the ending of the series. i hope the finale isnt a trainwreck

despite the wall of text of problems though the show overall is well worth watching and a good experience, i'm just a little disappointed by the feeling and pacing of s5. i don't think its gonna feel good to watch in a binge of the entire show. you watch s1-4 with similar pacing and feel and then you get the classic '2025 all shows are blockbuster movies' whiplash

1. What was the sequence of events where Karen blew up the Demodogs? Did she sneak into the room while the dogs were sniffing out the gang and throw in the cylinder and start the dryer? Or was she in the room before they got there? Did she predict what room the gang would end up in? The Demodogs dont hear Karen moving around with a full gas cylinder, while shes clearly struggling to move around with her injuries? Did Karen turn into Kakashi? 2. If Nancy and Jonathan had even a foot in the pool of grey matter when it solidified, they would have to amputate it right there to get out. I guess its lucky everything solidified after they were done wading around in the grey pool.

Maybe it's a pacing problem, like she needs to encourage Holly, but after that, run, dont make a weird blockbuster run with slow mo walk at the same time as Holly. same before the dialog, why not just make a more realistic scene: they run to find where the music came from, rhey see the portal, then Max stop and takes her time speaking to Holly.

Its not just the fact they faked out Nancy and Jonothan but literally every death. The upside down isn't even some scary death dimension now, the characters just walk around no problem. There are no longer any stakes in the show. Every moment that should be dramatic isn't even dramatic anymore because you know nothing will happen anyway. Don't even get me started on Karen the Terminator that is just ridiculous to the point of satire.

I have to agree, this season's pacing and writing it just not good in my opinion. Feels like there is too much lore unveiling happening and so a lot of character arcs are being rushed. Which to be honest, why does almost EVERY character have some issue that needs to be resolved in this final season?? And you're totally right about them abusing the suspension of belief. Karen being mobile after being bedridden the day before, the random convenient gate opening near hopper/el, the goo solidifying after dustin said shooting the exotic matter should've been instant death. I don't know, it gets to a point lol
