Domain Expansion: Better Call Higuruma

Huzz

IVE BEEN ITCHING FOR THIS OMFG JJKTHURSDAYS IS BACK!!!!!!!!

Madison

NEXT WEEK PEAK INCOMING

patricia jimjimcherie

I WAS WAITING. This episode was such a banger. I just reread the manga recently and this season will be goated. I also think the season has been AMAZING so far. The cinematography alone is incredible. Mappa is killing it.

Alex Ramirez

I love Higuruma. I was waiting for him to get adapted. He pushed Gojo out of my top 3 favorite JJK characters: 1. Todo 2. Higuruma 3. Choso

Lorenzo

I seriously dont understand people that are disliking this season. The production has been some of the best production anime has seen and people still seem to complain, it baffles me

Earthshatter

S3 been on the same lvl as S2 imo but the issue i have wiht jjk in general is whether the story is good or is the animation what makes it seem like its good

Brent Mahasi

People love to be contrarians or first on opinions, like they said it has not even got into the thick of it

Valde

This was peak 😮‍💨

Conk

everybody knows They know me where it snows, I skied in and they froze I don't know no nothin' 'bout no ice, I'm just cold Forty somethin' milli' subs or so, I've been told

Connor O'Hara

As a manga reader, I think Hidden Inventory and Shibuya Incident are probably the best overall arcs in the entire series, so story-wise season 2 is hard to beat and we were definitely spoiled. That being said, I still love Culling Games as an arc and season 3 has been phenomenal so far. The anime keeps finding ways to elevate the source material.

Booger

HUSBAND HIGURUMA HAS ARRIVED 👅👅👅

Sky

So the stat about Japan's conviction rate is true, more or less. The only thing they don't explain here, however, is that the exceptionally high conviction rate is a byproduct of the Japanese legal system focusing on only bringing cases to trial that have a high - and I mean HIGH - likelihood of resulting in a conviction. Meaning that cases with a shaky prosecution usually aren't brought to trial. Believe this is encouraged as a way to minimize public money being spent on a failed prosecution, something Japanese citizens DO hate, as the episode exhibits. Might sound extreme, even then, but the US legal system is kind of similar in that many prosecutors would rather secure a plea deal or settlement than see a case go to trial that they could possibly lose. High profile prosecutors would rather go that route than risk a blemish on their conviction records, most of which can literally be flawless due to them being very selective in which cases they choose to take before a judge/jury. One failed prosecution could cost those kinds of lawyers LOTS of money, as skeezy as that sounds.

beannie

Look at my lawyer dawggg, I’m going to jail 😫🤯🤣

Madison

the way they animated the domain expansion is genuinely soooo sick

kai

look at our lawyer dawg we all goin to jail 🤪

Ayoodude

Animation was great during the flashback school yard fight

Joie Dianzon 🇵🇭

My second husband (Higuruma) is here! It's so difficult since we lost Nanami. 😆 Gintoki's VA just entered the season and is already saying the epic words "Domain Expansion". Fans assumed that Higuruma's character is created during Gege's state of regret for killing Nanami.

BiggestOttoFan

I consider Higuruma to be the Mahito of Sorcerers. Just absolutely insane potential. And if you give him time to grow you WILL regret it. He's barely been a Sorcerer for a little over a week and he's already mastered Domain Expansion.

Datta

The season is great lol simple, no one cares that your favorite panels from the manga look different in an ADAPTATION stop crying

Madison

fun fact, higuruma means "sunflower" in japanese and japanese attorneys wear sunflower pins as a symbol of justice and liberty; also hiromi means something equivalent to "seeing" or "looking" which is a direct call to higuruma wanting to keep his eyes open

kai

omg the fucking transition to his domain expansion was so cool

Nash

Jack mayfield

ppl gonna hate on mappa every episode no matter what show and for sure gonna hate for jjk just bc how hype and good it is, i feel like jjk is one of the anime like one piece showing why they are on top of the industry every episode

Madison

yeah he's definitely a prodigy

Tre'On Beck

God this episode was beautiful!

beannie

ofc my goat higuruma shares voice with my other goat GINTOKI🗣️🔥

Gbemi

I think this season has been great. They’ve been really creative and the ‘slow’ start will surely lead to a great payoff in part 2. Also that domain expansion was so shocking 😳

kai

jjk fans are so entitled god forbid the studio changes something thats not like the source 😭

Connor O'Hara

Higuruma is easily one of my favorite characters. I'm so excited for you to see how his domain works.

Marcus D

What have you guys been seeing? I’ve haven’t seen comments here or in the discord about the season ‘not being great’ lol

Marcus D

And my donut goat Katakuri

Earthshatter

clearly sukuna is not gonna like that domain expasion

Marcus D

I thought himawari means sunflower?

T.Yaseen

Season 3 is peak idk how some are feeling "disappointed" lmao

Ella

googling how to become a gavel

Daniel Odunukwe

That's bc there are way better anime ongoing right now than this arc of JJK. We've got hell's paradise, fate strange fake, fire force that have been more peak than this first part of jjk s3.

Marcus D

Why does this feel like you’re giving a whole lot of insight from reading the manga. I feel like you could hold off saying this for a few episodes.

Lusanagi

This episode only had one Key Animator (Kouki Fujimoto), which is why the style of the episode was so unified and expressive. There's of course many secondary key animators so it wasnt a one man job or anything, but it does mean that they spent a LONG time on this which implies better working conditions and no rushing. Kouki Fujimoto also worked on some parts of the Reze movie and JJK 0.

JevCor

My GOAT

JevCor

Also people hating on whats popular has become a personality trait in the last few years, I'm not surprised people are pretending its not good.

Night Sterling

The Culling game arc was pretty 50/50 for a lot of people in the manga too so I think its just bleeding over to the anime as well. Personally i really enjoyed the arc and I'm enjoying how they're adapting it

beannie

DOOOOONUUUUUTS🗣️🗣️🗣️

Marcus D

The conviction rate is so high because in Japan the police/prosecution won’t persue a case further if they don’t believe it to have a very strong chance at getting a conviction.

kai

just ask mahito he’ll turn you into one 😹

Mods_are_toxic

I thought today’s drop was one piece

charlie

One Piece is mostly later like 7 hours from now

Indifferent Denji

While idk anyone who was saying it made the season bad i will say its one thing to change random scenes but to be fair the Kashimo scene is pretty iconic its his first and a dope shot. But the thing is that they replaced it with a different version and then showed the manga one in the specal episode which is a very weird thing to do simple as that. Its justified to be weirded out by it, its like if they had did some random shi for sukunas fuga arrow and then showed the manga one in the Shibuya recap from the Extinction movie. Not a huge deal but def a deal

Chosos Wife

THATS MY SECOND HUSBAND OH MY GOD HES FINALLY HERE I CAN'T BREATHE

Chosos Wife

I know you're talking about me bitch

Matthew Hunt Davies🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

If we are going bar for bar between S2 and S3, based on where S2 was at, at this point, then S3 is better for me. This was unreal. Can't believe there was just the one KA on this. Only S2 E16 compares against this episode for me. I thought the finale was going to be the best of S3 P1, but this is going to be hard to beat. It was even better on a rewatch, the small animation details were insane.

me? a potato

Haters are a very dedicated loud minority, it doesn't help that hating on JJK also brings clouts and attention because of how talked-about JJK was on Twt ever since leaks in 2023

Alan

People who don’t like season 3 are just the type of peeps who only like fights in anime

Dakota

Every episode is build up lol the suspense is killing me. I've liked every episode so far, but it does feel a little drawn out ngl. We're 8 episodes in and almost nothing has happened (except Maki's ep). Again I've liked every episode, I find myself thinking every one is only 10 mins, they go by so fast, but it does feel a little slow

Unlucky Trandon

We finally get to see my GOAT Higuruma be animated

Madison

pretty sure his name is written as 日車 寛見, and his family name 日車 is composed of 日 (hi, which means "the sun" or "day") and 車 (kuruma, means "car"). but GENERALLY Higuruma is another name for/play on the word sunflower, which makes sense considering his sunflower pin. It can also refer to the sun in myth, since sun is often compared as a carriage (hence the "car") running across the sky (that's what I found when I looked it up at least)

Madison

that's what I found when looking it up at least lol

Arallius

I disagree, I think it's just a different preference

Madison

as for hiromi, someone said that his given name is 寛見 , 寛 (hiro means "leniency", "generosity", "tolerance") and 見 (mi means "to see", "appear"). so Hiromi also roughly means "an apparent generosity", which I think is pretty cool

me? a potato

Honestly I will never get those spending so much time hating on JJK and the effort the staffs brings to this show/manga, I've been following JJK since 2020 and I can pretty much tell you it's the same complaining but switching up every year. Like, if I hadn't been that interested in JJK, I would still look at the show from a very respectful pov because I can tell how many creative, bold decisions that they put into this that makes it incredible. I don't like Chainsaw Man's story as much, but I would never say the show is "not all that" and love the show either way. One piece, Frieren, Hell's Paradise aren't exactly my cup of tea either, but I'd never say that these shows aren't great; I love other aspects of these shows that kept me wanting more. BUT, for some reason, JJK isn't seen like this (I blame the manga leakers with all their half-ass translations on twt in 2023), it's always liking it and then some random people just crawl out and cursing at you for liking it. Which I find incredibly tiring.

Madison

another fun fact, a lot of people think higuruma's name is a play on "haguruma" which means COG or gear 😭😭

Nanami's Wife

HIGURUMA I WAITED 3 YEARS TO SEE YOU ANIMATED AND IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT!!! 😍 I'm gonna pull a saltburn and drink that bath water, that's how serious I am😏 I'll take ALL that stress away😝 After Gege did Nanami so wrong (he was only supposed to lose an arm, I ain't forget😔), he knew to make up for it with Higuruma

Madison

yapping a lot today, but I also ADOREE the choice of colors in this ep, especially when the higuruma/yuji fight starts. with the green and red serving as a symbol for right and wrong, also the red making the bath water look like blood.... seriously the direction this season has been sick

me? a potato

Oh not that the ones who hate it outnumbered the ones who love it, the feedbacks are still mostly loving the show, it's just that they're very, very loud.

This is Daniel

I think the pacing and art direction of season 3 has been superior to prior seasons. It's been a slow burn, but they've delivered a cinematic experience so far. Example being the café scene of this episode, with that jazz music 🥰

alex anderson

What makes you think that the show has been slow. Cause personally I feel like it’s been paced literally the same as season 2 so far. I could go episode by episode comparison, but just curious what’s making you not as into the show, or something like that I guess.

alex anderson

I also think it’s just personal preference and subjective feelings for particular shows

McKay Carter

It seems Goon Kaisen is back

alex anderson

I think the season so far has done the same thing that season 2 did for me, which was always have me on the edge of my seat, and always wanting more by the end of the episode. Maybe that’s a subjective opinion that I only have, but I couldn’t care less.

Nanami's Wife

I refuse! *insert head shaking tongue emote*

Dakota

I didn't say I wasn't as into it. I've liked every episode. It just feels slower. I won't disagree the pacing is similar to the beginning of season 2, that was slow too. It's the weird juxtaposition of the season feeling slow but every episode seemingly being over in 10 mins because they're so good.

Seb

how hard is it to avoid spoilers for you guys? I'm not just saying for this show, but all shows you guy's watch (One Piece, Bleach, etc.). Cause I would assume your feeds on social media platforms would spoil a lot?

ThirtyStik

Bleach and jjk back to back… what a time to be on Patreon lmaooo

forthwanderer

this season has been great I dunno how you could say otherwise

Caraxes🐐DT

Jjk been better than all of em funny enough

Kasumii_

I've been loving S3, tbh I'm not a huge JJK fan in the first place but I love how creative they're being with every single episode, It's shown me that even a show that's mostly known and loved for it's fights and action can still feel fresh when every single episode is animated and directed differently, they do a really good job of changing up the pace and the feel of every episode while still keeping that JJK vibe. If I were to word it in a single sentence I'd say it feels like a massive passion project for the animators and I feel blessed to be the audience to that passion... oh Hakari would love me for all this talk about PASSION

WhynefineT

JJK is a critique on traditionalism, talking about how the older generations ruin the lives of children with their disinterest, traditions, and conservatism. You'll realise later why higuruma is such a good addition to the story.

Daniella

Another tired-looking man in a suit with a sexy voice?? oh gosh i'm guilty Higuruma give me a life sentence with you! You know what Doja Cat said about big noses...they make good seats 🤭

WhynefineT

Can we get predictions each episode? I'm curious to hear what y'all think how the story goes

Daniella

I was not expecting that instant domain expansion ngl didn't he just awaken?? 😭 Regarding season 3 people just want to see certain panels animated the exact same way they see it in the manga like the Yuji/Todo/Mahito panel which everyone went crazy for. I think the animators have taken more artistic liberties than in season 2 for sure but it looks amazing either way! (i.e the multiple shots of Higuruma 🫦) People just want to nitpick and forget that animation is another form of art let's just be grateful it's not like one punch man season 3 lol

WhynefineT

Who's saying it's not all that? Culling games is where I actually started to like jjk when I was reading the manga. It's a slow burn but that's why I like it. I read the entire jjk and I'm telling you I've never been more emotionally invested in characters before. Every bit of jjk is so unique and peak.

Miitei

As it should

Robert

I am also a bit disappointed with season 3 compared to season 2. Maybe comes from knowing the manga and expecting something else. But some things felt off. I like the dynamic movement of characters, but sometimes the show uses too-washed-out colors for my taste, and characters look off sometimes. Music choices also felt off sometimes. I really disliked the music choices for the Maki episode. I had something very different in mind. But the show is still really good, and I enjoy it. Part of discussing tastes always feels very warped since any small critiques can often be misinterpreted as disliking something. But often it's all about nuances.

Nanami's Wife

The fact he JUST awakened his powers and already has a domain expansion???? That's a problem😭

Caraxes🐐DT

Peak! My boy Yuji wasn’t expecting that domain expansion 🤣 also that retrial scene when higurama first snapped was fire af

Henrique I. Pereira

Season 3 could've been a bit better (so far) if it wasn't for the director. He did the same thing with chainsaw man season 1, he strips the manga out of its intended identity and vibe in the scenes in favor of his personal push for how the story should be presented. Good thing he's out of the project already and culling game part 2 will have someone else, same thing happened with the CSM movie and it was much more faithbul and better adapted compared to season 1.

kai

this is the worst take i’ve seen in a while

alex anderson

Adaptation vs replication is a subjective argument. I personally think it’s been fantastic, and you’re fair to criticize it for not staying true to the source material. But I find it hard to believe that it’s an objective statement. I personally am anime only so I don’t what they are changing. Some context for my viewing experience.

Animeke

I'm liking season 2 more at this point, but it'll be interesting to see how this season wraps up. Quality is still unreal and they're making a lot of unique decisions. I'm enjoying the ambiguity of season 3 too.

WhynefineT

The backstory is in the manga. Everything is from the manga. They only add extra action scenes

Animeke

It's funny, Megumi was lied to, but it seems to have worked out better for him, at least for now lol.

alex anderson

I know you still liked but I just couldn’t think of a way to describe what you were saying. I get what you’re saying though. Every episode feeling instantaneous and exciting, but when stepping back to look at the whole picture, where we started and where we’re at doesn’t look like much. Idk I just think that’s a criticism to think about later on down the line, maybe halfway through cour 2 or something

Justin Rosario

i’ve been loving season 3 so far and we haven’t even gotten to peak yet so idk why people are hating.

WhynefineT

The bomb Isn't actually a bomb. It's a metaphor.

WhynefineT

Popular = bad nowadays. I've seen people hate on Aot as well saying it's overrated like sorry I don't like your 'my little sister is cute' from 1769

ur mom

PEAK

botanbutton

Yes! That's true! In 2018, 99.9% of criminal trials in Japan ended in a guilty verdict. I'm not sure if that's true now but it was most definitely a fact in 2018. There was even a popular television drama with that fact as the basis and how the main character, a corky lawyer, tries to prove the innocence of his clients, no matter what.

Ninjinzo

season 3 is great. It's just larpers hating on popular shi just to seem different

Ninjinzo

well they dont know that it's a metaphor

Ninjinzo

same exact shit happened when aot season 4 started. Just random hate

Daniel Odunukwe

yeah right. Look, I'm a JJK fan, but I can admit that this current arc is not the best, at least the beginning of it. It is later down the line when it finally peaks, but for now, it has yet to peak, while other shows are already peaking with the story and animation. Just having good animation for all the episodes that have come out is not enough. The current story is nowhere near the rest.

WhynefineT

Did you guys notice higuruma had no handsign for domain expansion? All other characters have mudra that reflect their personality.

me? a potato

This ep is actually insanely animated for a tv ep though, what the hell

me? a potato

Fun fact this ep was the first to break Gosso's storyboards strike to be the first non-Gosso boarded, the storyboard for this was done by Yousuke Takada the assistant director, and easily his best storyboard/dir work yet

Miitei

The thing with this arc is that it was already hated a lot in the manga, and now people are crying because they want a 1:1 with the manga like who even understands them. I've also seen that a lot of people are having a hard time understanding symbolisms used and think the studio is just lazing around not animating thing, when jjk is very heavy in the show don't tell narrative...🤷‍♀️

beannie

If you love this show/story, you should be shaking in your boots that we have no idea who’s going to direct the second cour of this season. Gosso has done an amazing job so far, the only valid criticism would be how the pacing in some scenes feel rushed, but that’s a budget problem for sure (mappa)

me? a potato

Kouki Fujimoto singlehandedly key-animate this entire ep (what the fuck?) and even inbetween some scenes himself. Yajima's correction give me eyegasm holy moly

me? a potato

Oh and I don't think there's any rotoscoping in here, it's just Fujimoto insane drawing skill and shooting references

Kurofi

I’m really enjoying season 3 for a lot of the lore. I feel like it’s explaining a lot more and the world is really expanding. My one criticism and probably a hot take is that the animation has less dimensionality to it and feels flat. Like there are a lot of scenes (even in the great maki ep) where there is less detail and yes things are moving fast, but it just doesn’t feel as detailed as it did in S 1 and 2….even Season 0. I don’t want the JJK Mappa team to kill themselves obvi and maybe it’s a stylistic choice? But yeah, not tooo crazy about the animation in certain parts and fights….which is also why I don’t think the Maki ep is THAT Top tier. It’s great. It’s entertaining, but I def felt like they’ve had higher quality animation in other earlier ep which is why it’s not my fav. I did think ep 1 and 2 of this season started off strong tho and didn’t feel this way about those ep at all. Just felt like it fell off and felt flatter (to me) as the season progressed. Overall enjoying the season though! I do think the artistic choices in how the story is told is great and we’ve had some amazing moments so far. Excited for the rest. I started off as not the biggest fan of this show, it’s grown on me over time for sure.

Kite

same thing happened with chainsaw man season 1, the adaptation also had really cool direction but people wanted it to be exactly like the manga, imo it's better when they take creative liberties

Kite

I personally didn't love this part of the manga but the anime is making me like it a lot more

Mufufu

People who say this season is bad or weird barely understand direction, composition, character acting, music scoring, and so on. We should be grateful we even got this. This feels like a AAA anime. Many of the shots, the pacing, and the music choices for specific moments are on another level. Sure, it has flaws — it is what it is — but this kind of quality isn’t common, not even in movies. You should watch some of Satoshi Kon’s work. CRAZYYYYY PP

Maj

I seriously can’t fathom people having issues with this season. It’s been so, so good. The direction, animation, colours, OST, everything’s been elite pretty much every episode. Every shot feels super intentional and I'm on the edge of my seat every week. One blink and I have to wait 7 more days 😭😭 Also massive shoutout to Gege too, the character writing has been phenomenal, especially feeling that in this arc. The way their doubts, guilt, pride or whatever else they might be carrying actually shapes their decisions makes everything hit that much harder. This season has really shown that side of the writing and I’ve loved it. I am super interested to see what the fk Yuji does about that Domain tho, it's not looking too hot for him. Wouldn’t surprise me if he loses a limb to Higuruma's technique or something and then Sukuna just spawns it back with a lil reversed cursed technique whenever he eventually takes control. And I’m so curious what that little bastard Kenjaku is actually planning. Tengen that little cursed spirit fraud kinda threw me off, and the more I think about what Reggie said, the more plausible and logical it sounds that there's something way more devious planned than the whole ferry cursed energy thing using the barriers. No idea how it’s going to pan out but I genuinely can’t wait

Sora

season 3 is not only all that, it is in my opinion the best adaptation of anime in recent years... so far. There still time for them to mess it up, but I believe it has been better in every single way compared to Shibuya. Perhaps you can say Shibuya was more concise and electric with all the battles and shit, but that is not a fault of the adaptation. In my opinion is not a fault at all ofc, but if you have to attribute that to someone it has to be the story itself in the original. Culling games simply take longer for this to get going.

Seth Aasland

Higuruma’s technique is so dope I can’t wait for you guys to see it. His domain in particular is going to be very interesting

Maj

It's seriously unreal

Musoko

AAAAAA THIS IS GONNA BE THE LONGEST WEEK EVER HOLY SHIT

Lil Mimi

Straight to Domain expansion is crazy

Kekles

I think people who say that are just clinging onto weird nostalgia or joined after season 2 made it a household name where they could watch all of season 1 and 2 and the movie back to back with no needed wait time. But now they have to wait each week for new content, not to mention they have a director now with lots of creative ideas for the episodes. Season 3 is amazing, it blows the other 2 seasons out of the water on an artistic level and ups the source material at almost every turn, not saying season 2 was not artistic or better than manga, but the difference is crazy. But yes, people who say Season 3 is not all that are either tiktok watchers who only want big huge fights, Gojo/Sukuna fans wo are butthurt we haven't gotten any of them this season, or impatient kids who aren't used to waiting week to wekk to view things as a whole

Lil Mimi

They really gave this guy a fkn shikigami as his pet bro that’s insane. Holy I like him already.

WhynefineT

It was only hated by those who skipped most arc because they only want action scenes.

WhynefineT

Oh and by the way shibuya was hated while it was releasing weekly manga chapters and now it's considered good.

WhynefineT

People hated shibuya manga when it was releasing chapters weekly and now everyone likes it. Don't take them seriously. They need anime to process it😂

Llamadolphin

Ive been loving season three the direction of the episodes are so much more artistic than previous seasons. I feel like that is one of the main reasons some people dont like it over previews season, less strait action and more artistic shots and choices in the episodes

NMP

Anyone that’s complaining or bored with Season 3 so far. The Culling Games Arc hasn’t even really getting going yet. The only main fight of the arc that’s been animated so far is the Maki episode. Everything else we’ve seen so far is basically the equivalent of Mechamaru vs Mahito or Yuji vs the Grasshopper for Shibuya except if it’s been all given movie level animation and direction this time. What you’re doing now is basically the equivalent of people complaining that Shibuya sucked as they watched Nobara fight the guy with the hand sword, or Yuji and Megumi vs the old guy with the mustache, not knowing the peak that was right around the corner.

Seth Aasland

*slight inconvenience occurs* “domain expansion”

NMP

Like people seriously don’t realize how low priority stuff like Hakari’s fight club, Megumi vs Kirara, or the helicopter hair guy is in the grand scheme of the arc. Even stuff like Yuji vs Yuta from the first episode. The fact that it’s all been adapted THIS WELL and with this much care despite that is absolutely absurd and if anything should be getting people HYPED to see the actual big main fights. Relative to the source material I genuinely believe Season 3 has been one of the most impressive and absurd anime adaptations in recent memory. Like seriously they are going so far above and beyond what was necessary in terms of budget, animation quality, cinematic direction, etc.

Hazel

As a manga reader Im LOVING season 3, they have really made it super unique and artistic and Im so excited for future episodes!

Matthew Hunt Davies🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Wow that's a top 3 worst studio gek comment section take ive seen. I guess its all personal preference but I really dont think there are many people that could make it better.

Miitei

Yes, I know a lot of people skip the dialog and only read the fights, and unfortunately they are very loud 🫠

Dontsop Keran

Out of nostalgia is crazy, S2 aired 2 years ago 😭

Dontsop Keran

Culling games is by far the longest arc in the anime so it makes sense that the first few episodes are slower paced. Every chapter from the manga so far though has been adapted perfectly and the actual fights in the Culling games haven’t even started yet

DrNutBurger

People who dont like season 3 must genuinely be watching on there cracked phones while on the bus or something

Emmanuel

Season 3 is the production peak of the JJK anime thus far. And that doesn't just mean "wow animation is good" it means the direction and overall artistic vision has been nothing short of 5-star fine dining. Season 2 will likely remain the most iconic span in the anime's run, but we've been fed some of the best cooking out there this season.

Ben Everest

Bros been a sorcerer for a couple weeks and already has a Domain

me? a potato

The close up eyes shot at higuruma's "why are you looking at me that way?" is taken straight from the manga. The first time I read this part it was- holy moly. I'd have done anything to relive that feeling again and this ep does it for me, I literally couldn't ask for more of this season adaptation direction.

Lusanagi

"...strips the manga out of its intended identity and vibe in the scenes..." is only true if you dont actually understand what the storytelling in the manga is doing and how it is doing it. Adapting the manga panels to better reflect the "what" by adapting the "how" to the gorgeous animation is what anime should be about.

me? a potato

and THAT line, in the translation I read in the manga: "In order to not shake off the hands that cling to me for help, I want to keep my eyes wide open". I love this series with all my heart

JevCor

It's chainsaw man season 1 all over again, people getting mad its not 1:1 with the manga, especially in japan they hate it when the anime has any fluctuations from the manga.

NMP

The craziest part is that most of what we’ve seen in S3 so far outside of Maki’s episode is pretty low priority in the grand scheme of the arc. Like what we’ve been watching up until now is basically the equivalent of if Yuji vs the Grasshopper from the Shibuya Arc got movie level animation and budget. It gets my mind racing thinking about it, if the “filler” boring stuff is this great, I can’t fathom how the rest of the arc will be knowing how insanely awesome these fights start getting from this point on

NMP

It literally isnt even the same person directing… It’s crazy that people like you are so confident in showing how stupid you are to the rest of the world. Maybe come back and try again next week and you’ll manage to say something that isnt literally just made up lmao

NMP

Everything besides Maki’s episode so far in Season 3 has basically the equivalent of Yuji vs the Grasshopper or the bald old guy with the mustache for the Shibuya arc lol. People were complaining at the time too not knowing peak like Yuji vs Choso or Toji coming back or Mahoraga was around the corner. Trust me from here onwards it’s pretty much nonstop action all the way until the end of S3P2.

Vlad Blue

There is one thing in season 3 that if done poorly can ruin the season for me.

Emmanuel

the Mechamaru vs Mahito downplay is CRAZY.

NMP

Season 3 is like if they made an entire season with the cinematic direction and creativity of the episode where Geto turned evil. It’s unbelievable

Dakota

Oh yeah I trust the process lol I know it’s coming, I was just answering Carter’s question from the beginning of this video

NMP

The fact that this could apply to like 6 different fights is so funny lol. Season is just getting started

NMP

I agree. Season 2 has the best manga material but Season 3 by FAR has the best adaptation.

Madison

the guillotines form a sunflower above at one point (it's easy to miss), but I had to share bc that is genuinely INSANE considering sunflowers represent justice for japanese lawyers 😭 like what are the animators on

bondbond53

I don't care about seeing all sides - whoever thinks JJK S3 has been disappointing is genuinely deranged in the head and needs to go watch Bluey or something

CastSenpai

JJK is insanely good. Somehow I think Fate Strange/Fake is my favorite of the season, but this is absolutely second. People hating are tripping. We're also only like two toes into the water that is The Culling Games.

rheed_

Anime-only (so no spoiler replies appreciated). For what it's worth, it's been shown Sukuna doesn't care at all about Yuji dying either. When Choso was about to kill Yuji last season Sukuna just accepted it. Also those dudes didn't look like how the jujutsu higher-ups appeared in JJK 0, my guess is that it's people from the Japanese government, since how else would Kenjaku get a bomb?

Kekles

There is no time frame for nostalgia. It's any longing for the past. Not to mention there are quite a few numbers of teens into this show, so 2 years would honestly be a large part of their lifetime.

Liptrouski

The quality of these episodes is unreal

Alex Michael

Sukuna was only able to protect Yuji in Mahito's domain because Mahito's technique worked by touching people's soul. When his technique activated in his domain, he reached into Yuji's soul and encountered Sukuna who promptly told him f off. This was specific to Mahito's technique and domain.

Oscar Medina

I think Season three has put up a quality I haven't seen in anime just in the first few episodes

bondbond53

Higuruma let me use your beautiful nose as a seat wait who said that

Alex Mehmeti

I like to think that after his technique got awekened and he slaughtered all the people that were there, Kogane pops off with its happy attitude introducing itself among all the corpses

bondbond53

Is Higuruma in the bathtub a Sangwoo from Squid Games reference?

Mr. John Kagurabachi

Hot take but this episode is wayyyyyyy better than the Maki episode.

Noah

Cannon's right 95% of the peak of the culling games hasn't happened yet.

Chosos Wife

GIRL IF YOU DON'T GTFO OF HERE

Mr. John Kagurabachi

This episode was so amazing but should serve as an example as to why Japanese people were so disappointed in Maki’s episode. This episode is wayyyyyyy better than maki’s episode yet maki’s arc is more important. Maki’s episode should have been as good as this one. It should have broke the internet like sukuna vs manoraga yet it’s getting overtaken by hiriguma

Bachira

The season has been great to me. I'm apart of the manga community and what seems to be happening is that people who've read the manga create certain expectations about what the anime should be like, and then they are disappointed when it's different than they expected. I'm not as picky as most people seem to be.

Chosos Wife

Me and Doja Cat agree on her view about big noses 🤪

aiku

WHOO SAID THAT

Booger

Just saved so many edits of Higuruma he’s literally the finest guy in the show 👅👅

Jesse Herrera

I've loved this season so far. People are so damn impatient

lian

AHHHH been waiting years to see higuruma animated

Noah

i agree about the maki episode, never loved that style. This episode looks way better IMO

Lemonsqueeze

I dont understand how everyone praises the animation of season 3. Its almost like watching a slow moving slideshow of drawings. 1 frame per second. The season is okay story wise, but if you like smooth animation style, this season lets you down.

Koro

Is this ragebait ?

Lemonsqueeze

I honestly believe people are too distracted by the subtitles to notice

Kurofi

I agree with that! This ep looks better but I still feel like they’re still using that stylistic choice of “quick sketches” set in a very detailed background. That being said, the movement of characters when they walk and move is great and def makes it look better. Just feel like like they can push the details in the characters and colors more.

ThirtyStik

Anime only I can kinda see why up until this point it’s been sub-par but the next ep until the end will be what everyone’s craving lmao. This season has been next level cinematically and artistically. It’s on another level now. We haven’t even seen blue hair, hakari, megumi, yuta, yuji, choso, and plenty others get into anything lmao. People need a chill pill…

jrnoodles

Thank you! This was a very interesting episode. It felt very artistic

jed d'angelo

Season 3 has been great and will continue to be some of the best out there. My only complaint this entire season has been the Maki episode and that was about the fanbase over hyping due to the animators working that episode. This show continues to give out banger after banger each episode and I look forward to the rest being given the love it deserves.

Arctic_stark

This is going to be an unpopular opinion, but JJK might be the first anime I recommend people watch in Dub. The plot and dialogue is definitely not easy to follow in sub for anime only watchers.

Osvaldo

It’s great but JJK community is notorious for being on the dumber side and hate to read/ can’t read. No hype fight happening? “Boring” is their thought process.

monsterhead

ive only ever read the jjk manga and im not even a huge fan of it (im only watching this for higuruma) so i havent seen any of the anime in a long time, does it always look this good? This is some of the best animation for casual scenes ive ever seen. Even the rotoscoping, which normally looks horrible in anime, look amazing. Thats not even to mention direction. A lot of this feels like a Wong Kar-wai film. Impressed

TheDirkiestDigg

Yeah, season 3 has looked like this in every episode basically.

monsterhead

Wow that’s awesome I wish more anime would take this more cinematic approach

CatSandpaper

Just.. not true at all. You get enough, and still have room for a rewatch to understand more if you want. Coming from a anime only im following and so are others.

CatSandpaper

very much ragebait stay strong team 💪

TheDirkiestDigg

I would say it comes down to them using a very cinematic style when it comes to shot composition and direction. They are making JJK as though it was a big, live action movie. The shot composition that they use leads to them sacrificing detail to make the scenes feel very lively. This is mainly done in the dialogue scenes though. Such as in a lot of this episode for example. It's definitely not going to be everyone's cup of tea though since they are taking so much creative liberty with it.

E L

this episode is cinema

Umineko peak fiction

Easily one of the best episodes even with no action. You can just feel the tension the last couple of episodes have built up and know its about to get insane. Next couple of eps have some of my most favorite moments in the series

me? a potato

well the thing is, this is some 'nother level type work, you gotta have a very very talented staff team in order to do this approach, so not that many shows can go with this and meet deadlines unfortunately TT

AJCoCoQueen

bruh. JJK is so good. I’m like DYING for the next episode. I love how JKK writes this story

LindsC

such an epic intro for higaruma!!

Alex Ramirez

Higuruma doesn't play, he pops his Domain Expansion immediately. You need to understand how cracked Higuruma is, he has only awakened as a sorcerer for about a week and he already has a Domain Expansion, those are rare and take years of jujutsu to obtain. Higuruma's Domain Expansion has to be my favorite Domain Expansion, I can't wait for the Geks to see what it does next week :))

Patrick Bateman

1:10 Ngl the season started off very strong, but the last 4 episodes have been very disappointing. And it's not because of the lack of action. It's because the fact that they are supposed to be slow plot focused episodes, yet the plot in them is just weak and not interesting.

Madison

waiting for next week is going to feel like forever 😭

Lil Mimi

Better call Higuruma 👨‍⚖️

Lil Mimi

Yeah I’m cracking for sure

Patrick Bateman

Just cause production is great, doesn't mean there can't be complaints on other parts of the show.

Patrick Bateman

Yeah ngl as an Anime only, the past few episodes plot been very weak

Patrick Bateman

Yeah I kinda agree. So far nothing has been happening. Every episode is basically reinventing the rules of the game for some reason.

Patrick Bateman

Hot take. It literally broke the internet lol

Bisky

nah that's crazy, S3 so far has been some of the best art and direction in anime I've ever had the pleasure of watching imo

Peaceful Remedy

Ngl I could watch an entire series of that lawyers backstory idk why it was so much better than normal ‘slice of life’ stuff

SuperChuckABoo

I honestly love this season so far. I think what they've done stylistically with this season is next level. Sometimes I forget I'm even watching an anime TV show. It feels like I'm watching 20 min movies. The fluidity of the animation the vibrancy of it all. When I watch this show I'm immediately immersed and I'm just in that world. The episodes go by so fast. I feel like the vibe of the show is almost tangible.

Max Grodman

It’s mostly set up, and it’s been really well done and well adapted. The direction this season has actually been amazing and so much more creative than a 1 to 1 manga adaptation

J

Cinema

walkman

This season has been great. I love the movie style cinematography they’re using. It’s truly peak animation. And the story has been really intriguing to me too since I haven’t read the manga

Fatipapi (Byakuya’s Girl)

HAHAHHA only at the beginning tho, when he’s in the prison and behind his desk. In the culling game they made him look a bit off again

Grae

I don't know what the people who dislike this season are smoking, but as an anime only I'm loving this season. Higuruma in the bathtub with the white screen changing reminded me of something out of the monogatari series. I'm also liking how every dialog scene is so much more fluid and how the rotoscoping, creative angles, sound design and colour use make it feel like a drama, but can also snap back to being an action packed shonen when it wants to.

Marsuvies Black

I think it has been really amazing lots of set up but that's ok makes the action more impactful.

JoLen

Mappa’s new style has been my fav out of all their projects. Jjk s3 and Reze Arc animation has been BEAUTIFUL

Flubbedsquid

Season 3 has been such a banger so far. I can hardly remember the last time an anime has impressed me this much with its direction. Maybe Chainsaw Man season 1. You can just tell they put so much effort into making it look interesting. Every episode is a treat.

Lemonsqueeze

Its 100% fine to like the artstyle, but objectively it is very low on frames. Could almost desbribe it as stop-motion

Enma

Anime only watcher. Season 3 might be my favorite, maybe its recency bias. Artstyle, animation, cinematography, music, and color grading, everything has been at such a high quality. i love the stakes and how unsettling and intense its been. I can't predict what will happen. It also is much slower compared to the other seasons, mainly because this is part 1, the beginning of the game and there needs to be time to develop and build the foundation for the game and new characters. I think this is a great choice, I'm an idiot so its nice to slow things down a bit and really lay things out, especially since theres a lot of info being presented and feels completely shifted from the past seasons. I understand Kenjaku's plan of merging with Tengen to create a higher being, but why does he want to do that? Unlike Geto, who wanted to get rid of non sorcerers so there no longer any curses thus no more "unnecessary" death and suffering, what would this goal accomplish for Kenjaku? Does he want the world to end, caused by the lack of boundaries and by the "impurities" of man? And if so why? Did I miss something? Perhaps it has something to do with the past, maybe related to Sukuna since they seem to have ties.

Flubbedsquid

Also (sorry if someone said this, but I ain't reading 250 comments to check) Some info on the japanese justice system. Yes, the 99.9% conviction rate is true. Japan has what is often regarded as an incredibly corrupt justice system. I watched a documentary on it the other day. Police will interrogate people for hours, using methods that a former cop described as "almost torture," in order to squeeze confessions out of a suspect. In Japan, the confession is king. Cops will ask leading questions, and even an absent-minded nod by a tired out suspect after hours of questioning can lead to a conviction. In Japanese culture, saving face and being seen to do your job properly are of utmost importance. Arresting and interrogating an innocent person is seen as a big mistake. So, if you are arrested, you are guilty, and they will endeavor to make it so by any means they can. Also, in Japan, a person can be tried up to three times. After the initial trial, an appeal can be made. If they are innocent, the prosecutors can appeal, or if they are guilty, the defendant can appeal. Then, after that trial, assuming the second trial went the way of the appealer, a second appeal can be requested by the party that didn't request the first appeal, resulting in a third trial. However this is rather rare, with what I stated above, the vast vast majority of trials are guilty verdicts.

Tenghein C

Back in S2 where choso almost killed Yuji, Sukuna didnt come out because he can't. Yuji has full control of his body with only 2 exceptions: voluntarily give up control (s1 against the curse womb in the detention center) or getting forced fed more than 10 fingers at once. Meaning only the first exception will allow Sukuna to come out since Yuji already has 15 fingers and cant be fed another 10 since there just isnt enough fingers. So the only way is Yuji voluntarily letting him out, which we know will never happen again from the Shibuya incident. Trying to take advantage of Sukuna as a backup 'save my life' without a binding vow is death sentence for everyone around including Yuji himself. Hence, Sukuna is not even any sort of card that Yuji can even use, Sukuna is just there existing with 0 control.

Lemonsqueeze

And I had to recheck it side-by-side with season 2 to confirm. Its very noticeable. I'm not trying to diss JJK at all, I'm just trying to explain the thought process of some of us who feels like this about S3 ❤️

Maj

I don't think it's going to be an actual bomb, it definitely feels like that's a metaphor for just throwing in a big twist to the culling games that we weren't expecting

Lil Mimi

Manga readers just complain all the time

Shane

Season 3 is great, JJK fans that dislike it just can’t beat the Grade 54 Illiteracy Curse. This season has already had some insane fights, the animation is top notch, and we’ve had some great character intros. Hyped for it to continue to ramp up

Stephanos Stavrou

Every Season 3 episode is like a shor film. Incredible direction, cinematography and music. They are in top of their game. As for the story we really had amazing episodes so far and Culling Game just started. Couldn't be more optimistic about the future for JJK. Incredible.

Nahgi

I think for me, season 3 is the best. I accept other views though, the crazy animation and fights so far and I love the most is, crazy world veiw. How come the same human being come up with the idea like this? It's insane. And voice actors...Ah, JJK, you are the best.

codesterr

Higuruma is one of my favorite characters in JJK. im so glad he's here!!!

Marcus D

Man, I’m going to miss Director Gosso. This episode was cinema

Marcus D

JJK fans not being able to read is one of my favourite fandom stereotypes lol

Marcus D

Falls under expectations I can understand, I expected us to be deep into the culling games already but the content has still been well done and enjoyable. (I’m not one of the season 3 haters)

Marcus D

Almost every cafe and trendy small shops in Japanese cities have that music playing Cannon, go and get your but over there asap!

ThatJakeChap

What's untrue about it? They gave an opinion based on their own watching experience. Just because that's not your experience, doesn't make what they said untrue. Granted it's not like there's a lot of "plot" in JJK but anyone can admit (this season especially), there is a lot of dump text on screen while someone is also speaking moments. I'd say it's a pretty fair opinion.

ThatJakeChap

I'll preface my opinion about season 3 with the fact I've really been enjoying it and really like JJK as a whole. I'm honestly just over both extreme opinions about the show. On one hand you have people rating it very low due to choppy animation (and I assume other things) and while I have noticed this at times, it's so few and far between that I don't blame anyone for not noticing. Most of the animation is very good and the cinematography is a lot more creative this season so I really do think the positives outweigh the negatives by a fair amount. On the other side you have people who think every aspect of this season is the second coming of Christ just because there have been a couple banger songs and they're using more creatives camera angles in scenes. It's very good like I said, but it's not the best anime that ever did exist good. It's sitting somewhere between an 8 and 8.5 for me right now, especially when I compare it to any other show I'd put higher than that. Once again though, I am really enjoying it. I've just noticed peoples' biases and desire to defend their "side" seem to make a lot of opinions seem very exaggerated one way or the other.

Ryan

Imo way too early to judge. Obviously if we are comparing all of season 2 (or even the first arc of season 2) to what's been released, I would say s2 takes it by a mile. Nonetheless, I have no real complaints so far, I'm just letting it cook, letting all the new elements and characters simmer and so forth. I will say it's been quite confusing at times and definitely a switch up, but that kind of fits the show and power system in a way, very similiar to like hxh or something. Also, animation and direction have been nutty, 12/10. I will say, bottom 5 universes I'd want my ass teleported to lmao😣💔

lawswater

i don't even watch jjk i just came to say that higuruma is actually so fine it's crazy

kuza

mappa is so unreal just like the csm movie i cant help but love every single second of this show it just looks so good

kuza

higuruma is so interesting and him using domain expansion off rip caught me so off guard that was insane 😭😭

mako_

S3 is great so far, but compared to S2, the pacing difference is noticeable The cinematography and animation are incredible and its lowkey carrying the weekly experience in my opinion. With S3 it feels like each episode is a gamble whether we're getting payoff or 100% setup. Thankfully it's easy on the eyes so the setup isn't boring to watch. S2 felt consistently eventful. This arc feels more fragmented, which might just be how it’s structured, but the energy doesn’t hit the same week to week as S2. (I like S3 more because I like characterization)

Booger

This comment section is either comparing S2 and S3 or thirsting over Higuruma

Bourgeoisie

Every-time I see Higuruma a white tear runs down my leg 🥹

Seth Aasland

It would be a very interesting concept, as Higuruma talks about towards the end of the episode, to have a system where criminal wrongdoing was something that could be punished by physics/extraordinary phenomena in accordance with the law, the way the rules of the Culling Game are enforced. If you’re the one who committed the crime, you’re the one who’s punished, with no room for doubt or uncertainty, and also regardless of how much money/power/influence a wrongdoer has, which can more often than not be the reason why some criminals go unpunished. And on the flip side, there would also be no wrongful convictions. If you are innocent, you are innocent. As someone who is working towards becoming a paralegal this was a very cool episode

Sdat1guy

I dont read manga. Season 3 is really good. People must be stuck in that pacing from season 2 where it was all hands lol and we took L's after L's. Season 3 is a good breather. In terms of cinematography, art, animation, story, etc. Mappa is doing a great job balancing everything and I'm loving it seriously. Cannot wait for the rest of the season because I trust and know mappa is going to coooooooook! Great reaction boys 👏

CatSandpaper

They said "definitely not easy to follow" which i disagree with. Even if its a opinion based on their own experience i can disagree and forward my own, i wasn't rude or anything. I dont think its a fair opinion to say because its sub its harder to follow, i honestly think its the opposite. You can pause and read and understand just fine. I think people agree with me too. The untrue part being that sub is harder to follow than dub not the fact THEY cant follow thats their own problem 🤷‍♂️

Arctic_stark

I don’t really care for a debate here but I hope you see the irony in the fact that you’ve now recommended people to either stop and read the subs or rewatch the entire episode to get a better understanding. Here’s a shocking idea, maybe they can listen to the dub and not have to do either of those things. It’s not hard to figure out that not everyone has an infinite amount of time to dedicate to watching anime.

NMP

I very distinctly remember anime only fans complaining during the middle of Season 2 when Shibuya was just getting started. And it was worse because the production was unhealthy so the low priority episodes had animation that was held together with duct tape while here it’s being done with gorgeous movie quality animation. You’re lying if you’re saying watching Yuji fight a grasshopper or going over battle plans with Mei Mei had you glued to the edge of your seat week to week lol

NMP

Such a strange take. You don’t find Higuruma interesting at all? A lawyer who tried his best to fight for what’s right but was broken by a broken justice system and now finds fulfillment in the clean cut rules and structure of the culling games? I think that’s awesome and a super interesting way of exploring the morality of the jujutsu world from the eyes of an outsider

NMP

It’s so funny lol, I mean I can’t blame people for not knowing what’s coming. But imagine somebody watching Yuji vs the Grasshopper and complaining that Shibuya sucked and was boring and you’re just sitting there laughing knowing what’s around the corner with Sukuna, Mahoraga, Choso, Jogo, Toji, Mahito, Todo, etc

NMP

Literally the only notable fight of the arc that’s been adapted so far is the Maki episode lol everything else is like the lowest quality “filler” of the culling games and it’s still adapted so well. People have no clue what’s coming

NMP

Yep this entire season has been S2E5 level quality and honestly episodes like this are even way better. Absolutely absurd quality of production for an anime. I genuinely would say this episode was probably better animated than the CSM Movie and the Movie was excellent.

CatSandpaper

Doesn't care for the debate yet replies anyways. Either way, pausing to read and rewatching were just solutions if you felt like u "missed" something. I watch the episodes off the Geks only so 1 viewing yet im following just fine (and so are others like this was just one comment that complained about that throughout this whole comment section). The sub does a perfectly fine job explaining what you need to know as you need to know it. and if youre curious for more then you can rewatch. My point is "if" you are already not following along, dub helping makes even less sense. pausing to read isnt a bad thing nor does it take up an "infinite amount of time to dedicate to watching anime" like what????

aubrey

im a manga reader and i agree with an earlier comment that said people over-exaggerate both how good jjk is and how bad jjk is. in my personal opinion its a mid show with really good animation. i feel the same way about jjk as I do demon slayer by which i enjoy watching it and theres certain small aspects I really like I just don't really think about the show or care to interact with fan content once im done watching, if that makes sense

aubrey

i kinda feel like jjk is for battle shounen fans that are less interested in plot or characterization, which is fine to be #LetMidBeMid

kuza

jjk clearing ds

mako_

Ofc not every episode is eventful, but a large amount of the season is. And I agree the animation in S2 was rough, specially compared to S3. Apart from the beginning I was pretty much glued to my seat and knew something was going to happen every week. Unlike S3 where its a gamble whether we're getting more setup or actual payoff. Also want to mention setup is working for Culling Games since these participants are actual characters, so yeah, not complaining

Maj

Hard disagree

WhynefineT

It's definitely not a mid show. You haven't seen enough shows if you call jjk mid. The dialogue, stakes, writing, fights it's all very good

WhynefineT

I can see the jealousy oozing from this comment. You're mad your show is getting overshadowed by jjk.

WhynefineT

This ep was so good on rewatch. Can't wait for next ep. As a manga reader it only gets better from here

Umineko peak fiction

IMO say what you want about plot wise but JJK excels in exploring interesting themes and char writing. I have it as a top 3 shounen with DGM/PH manga wise. Yuji has one of the greatest char arcs in shounen

Thomas Holman

Season 3 is cookin’ … folks gotta check their limited attention spans and have some patience

NC

It would be really interesting! I think then, as with any system (and like we’re starting to see here), it would raise the question of who determines the rules? It’s true that if there was someway to have physics / other phenomena punish those who break the rules there would be no room for escaping consequence or wrongfully punishing the innocent, but if the rules themselves were biased or prejudiced it would serve as automatic reinforcement of those biases/prejudices with no room for recourse. Guilt and innocence would be relative to the opinions of whoever has the power to establish the rules/system and define criminal behavior. I was also thinking about what this might mean in terms of intent. Like if one of the rules was that it was a crime to hurt someone intentionally vs not a crime if it was accidental. Considering the hypothetical that physics/phenomena could be “all seeing”, would the rule setter establish intent as premeditation? But to what degree of premeditation or thought would be considered intentional? What if someone had a fleeting thought of jealousy while doing something for someone else and their hand slipping causing injury? Subconscious accident or intentional slip? Interesting to think about

juss2000

As a manga reader the culling game arc was pretty boring, I feel like most readers agreed at the time.

Jonesy

what are you smoking

WhynefineT

It's agenda lol don't take it serious

WhynefineT

As a manga reader culling games is the best arc following by final arc

WhynefineT

@juss2000 The "boring" take is when people have tiktok attention span. A lot of manga readers skip because they can't handle dialogues.

Chrissy

I’m an anime only watcher and I’m enjoying it. I look forward to it each week! But I do think the artsy vibe is king of carrying the plot. Just personal opinion. But I’m not complaining. It’s a good show. Not my favorite but it’s definitely not bad, I look forward to seeing where the culling game is going.

Chrissy

I’m assuming his domain is like a trial, so if yuji is “innocent” he will be fine. Idk how that will work in like a fight setting though. Also “dropping a bomb” is a metaphor. I don’t think he means a literal bomb lol.

Etain

I agree it's been "boiling the frog" this season so far. I love how it's been slowly building this new world and the backstories of the new members. It's just needing a little bit of patience for it all to come together for the grand finale lol. I love the animation this season, and it's refreshing to see how the music and art direction takes the anime to a new level. (side note: watching this episode the second time hits so much harder; literally got chills when judgment was being served ;)

okay bourg, i'm starting to see your true nature now 🤭😭😭😭😭

me? a potato

Sorry this got really long so long paragraphs ahead! I think it’s the limitations. Jjk being a shounen was already a limitation itself, the genre used to be the thing that got me reluctant to read the series. Hell the first time I interact with the series was s1 ep 7, the Gojo’s Domain ep. Did not like that episode especially visually, the flashy/rage fight scenes of shounens for most parts feel detached and a bit silly to me (because of me not feeling anything that’s reeling my emotions in) Ended up starting JJK to catch up with my friend who was watching it, and I was surprised. While the visuals were still generic, but the dialogues were great. I didn’t realize conversations can still sound natural on TV that doesn’t feel like an A to B, B to A, but rather the character is in presence with one another, not just dialogue but the way they notice each other’s shift of emotions mid sentence, underlying understanding without having the same “no I get you” but rather just two people talking about their duties and last a moment of silence afterwards (Itadori and Nobara, Nobara and Megumi). The ep with Junpei, Itadori and the mother is when it clicks for me like this series is exactly the story for me; Junpei’s mom talk about school and society being aquariums, Junpei’s about people not having hearts and Itadori’s about the value of life once you disregard a life at your own hand. It is how HUMAN the story ended up being about, and for a universe of cursed spirits and sorcery superpowers, it’s kind of funny and really fucking good. Because there ended up being questions about how far you dig your humane identity under for the people you love? Understanding the sins of what you’re about to do, and the consequences that comes with it. Shonen is the genre that’s easiest to reach a big amount of audience, the author went in this genre and tried out the limitations to which stories he can tell. But because it’s shonen, it’s easier to be stuck in between a never ending clash of opinions. Is the story fitting for teenage boys? The story too complex for the genre? And if it is should it not be allowed critics upon because of the compromise of trying-to-not-be-axed by the publisher (+ trying to not run the series more than x amount of years or else you would get burnt out and go on indefinite hiatus) But despite all that, Gege does risk by telling the stories he actually wants with JJK later on as he became more sure of himself and the series’s stability itself. It comes with a couple of drawbacks of not getting the spotlight of getting drawn out longer or blueballed, but so many great moments hits HITS, for me if not anyone else, showcasing how great his pen can be. Which I think is why JJK also get harsh backlash, great characters only to appear for only a bit compare to the usual pacing of other series. Well I’m now in college and literally grew up with the series, I would say this series end up being a very close thing to my heart and resonates with how I see life. I mean it’s sad to see someone who downplays the media dear to you as “slop carried by visuals”, “all that writing for nothing” (which I still don’t see that) when I got into JJK because of the writing in the first place.

I definitely miss the vibe of season 2 and the Shibuya incident especially; but the vibe of this season is so cool in its own totally different way; the powers, the cinematography, the characters, the transitions, the action sequences, the music, the humor; the art style as Carter said; so many things; it's so cool !

My take on season 3 as a manga reader? I think the adaption tries too hard to be cinematic at times and ruins the vibe that the manga sets up. I’m all for creative liberties but I don’t think everything needs to be changed, some things are fine 1:1. But it’s “good” not perfect imo

You’re the minority lmao

Sukuna came out for Mahito’s domain because mahito’s technique (also his domain obv) touches the soul. In normal circumstances Yuji being hit with a domain wouldn’t touch Sukuna’s soul

@Cledz u mean jealousy oozing from /my/ comment...? Mane i said my opinion based on a question they asked in the vid and ur in here aggravated by it hahaha idk what u even mean by "your show"

C. Fushiguro

That Conny cameo caught me off guard but that was cool.

Nanami's Wife

I’m just glad this anime ACTUALLY POINTED OUT Japan’s flawed justice system. Like, talking about the conviction rate was the cherry on top

Heyy, the link for 2x5 isn't working 🥲

I'm so hyped for tomorrow's episode

Kiyoh

late but on the point in the intro season 3 so far has been great. the quality is unreal. every shot is so intentional and interesting in a pretty unique way

Rebecca

literally started watching s3 bc of the higuruma edits that came up on my fyp lmao

Ella

it’s been like that for a while sadly🥲

I’ve been really enjoying S3, especially everything up through Maki’s episode. My main issue with JJK though is that it does SO much setup and explaining only to end up producing an average story, which it still does this season. It’s carried by things like animation, camerawork, characters, and overall presentation. I agree with people that this seasons artistic angle is carrying the plot.

Tivy

This episode and the next one are so good!

Higuruma spawning with his Domain already????

Ice cold take imo. Now that we are months away from it I went back and watched it and I genuinely kinda don’t care for the Maki episode mucus
